4 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in Los Angeles: May 17 | Eater LA

"A stone's throw from the massive two-level Target in Eagle Rock, I found a family-operated Lebanese spot that opened in October 2023 and excels by keeping its menu simple and street-food focused: shawarma sandwiches are pressed like panini and filled with traditional Lebanese ingredients plus ample tahini or garlicky toum, baguette options go through the same flattener but are loaded with flavorful soujouk sausage, basturma, and offal delights like chicken liver, and the custom grill is typically lined with skewers of marinated chicken and beef kofta. It's a perfect on-the-go meal for LA—if the tiny parking lot is full, park in the mall behind the shop—and you can honestly order just about anything because the sandwiches, Lebanese-style fries, and hummus are legitimately delicious." - Eater Staff

5 Stars – Authentic Flavors and Amazing Sandwiches! A is a hidden gem! The sandwiches here are bursting with authentic Middle Eastern flavors. I had the chicken shawarma wrap, and it was absolutely delicious — perfectly seasoned, juicy, and wrapped in fresh, warm pita. The garlic sauce was spot on! The staff is friendly, and the food comes out quickly. Highly recommend if you’re craving real Lebanese street food!

Google
Nice and authentic. Tried the beef tongue baguette sandwich. Beef is well seasoned and ultra tender. Pickles, lemon juice and mint leaves make for a wonderful flavor combo. Encased in a warm, crispy-soft grill-pressed baguette. Fantastic. Side of mutabal, generous portion, tastes fresh. These guys are doing good work.

Google
Not good shawarma from my experience. Meat was dry and grainy with little flavor. Very small portion of meat in the wrap, several bites were just pure raw onion. Did like the grill on the wrap.

Lama Mouawad

Google
Solid beef shawarma sandwich, devoured in minutes. If you’re in town make sure to stop by. Super friendly staff and quick service, will be back to try more items

Google
Found my new favorite restaurant! Staff is so kind, food is delicious, clean and super fast service. I had the chicken and beef shawarma, 10/10. And their garlic paste is chefs kiss! Highly recommend this place

Google
Came here on a recommendation that it taste as close as the you can get in Lebanon. We had the beef tongue, beef shawarma, shish tawouk, chicken liver and Lebanese style fries. I preferred the tongue but all their wraps were good.

Just finished my last bite of my sandwich yummy! I ordered homemade beef Shawarma, and enjoyed every bite. The place is very clean. Family operated. Excellent service. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
We just had lunch at A La Beirut and what a great decision it was. The second we saw that they served Lebanese food we were intrigued so we decided to get in and try it. The food was absolutely fantastic and the young man working at the register was the sweetest. 100% recommend, we will be back!

Yelp
An excellent spot for Lebanese sandwiches, burgers, and wraps! I ordered the Rosto sandwich which had plenty of tender beef mixed with crispy lettuce, tomato, and pickles. The bread was crispy and warm and they pressed it to give that panini feel. It's an excellent sandwich for lunch. They use fresh ingredients here and are family owned which is great. Service was friendly and they were very welcoming when I walked in. There's some tables available for seating if you want to enjoy your food there and they also have a little section with imported candies and ingredients. If you enjoy Lebanese food, definitely come give this spot a try!

Yelp
The place is located at the local Plaza. The place seems to pay the bills with takeout but it has a decent interior for a sit down and showcases some Lebanese shows. It does offer a few Lebanese snacks on the side that you can add to your order. The place is family owned and does have a few local Lebanese regular. Cook time and service are pretty quick and the cook and staff are pretty good at explaining certain dishes. Tried beef tongue for the first time in Lebanese sandwich form with a side of mutabal. Not bad really. It was like a savory pate and it felt dense. Definitely a good place to get foreign food while getting dat protein.

Yelp
Coming from a Lebanese who has struggled to find truly authentic Lebanese food for the past 16 years - MUST TRY THIS PLACE. Every sandwich we tried was perfect. From the beef tongue, to the Sujuk, to the shawerma. Fresh meat, generous portions, and a taste from home. Can't wait to come back and try the rest :)

Yelp
I enjoy Lebanese food a lot and wanted to venture into sandwiches for a unique weekend lunch. Saw that A La Beirut was highly rated. Enjoyed the beef tongue and Lebanese style hamburger. Both were great! I especially liked the beef tongue because the meat was tender, tangy from the garlic sauce & pickles, fresh from the mint, and the bread oh so crispy and warm. Solid sandwich!! Lebanese burger comes with a sesame seed bun, fries, angus patty, cabbage slaw, pickles, ketchup and mustard. Homemade augus patty. Fresh ingredients and a local family owned business. If you enjoy Lebanese/Armenian/Mediterranean/Greek/Turkish flavors already - give this spot a try :)

Yelp
The chicken shish tawouk wrap is incredible! I love this place and can't wait to come back and try their breakfast too
google avatar

Yelp
The beef shawarma wrap is SO good. The beef is very flavorful, juicy and tender. The wrap was wince and crispy and a decent size. Great prices for great food. Nice seasoning on the labne side. Wish it came with more pita since one isn't enough. Can't wait to go back. Oh and the service is really friendly. It's not the type of place you would eat at, more of a to-go place.

Yelp
Run don't walk....the food here is authentic Lebanese style, fresh with all the essential and necessary spices. I had the fatoush salad, seasoned impeccably, including the pomegranate syrup, which most places leave out - it was delicious- the best fatoush I have ever had!! My daughters had chicken shawarma and tawouk sandwiches- devoured within minutes. They were 100% satisfied with the flavor of their wraps, and they are hard to please. You must try this place and enjoy! This was our first visit and we will return!

Yelp
Nice little shawarma place in Eagle Rock by Glendale border. I had a side of falafels with tahini that was very good for 7 bucks and tax. I then had a beef shawarma wrap and that was around15 dollars. Really nice spicing and seasoning, and well put together wrap. It took a bit of time since it was made fresh unlike on a spindle as most shawarma places do. I think if you are in the glendale -eagle rock area, this place is a must go for these things. They also have a mini-market of things, and neat little ice creams to grab. The Parking can be annoying since lots of folks take up too much space, but the mall next door above the ramp has a lot of space if needed. Folks running the place are very nice.

Eduardo M.

Yelp
Food is top quality, very tasting. I had the homemade chicken shawarma and never had anything better. The staff is very friendly and amazing. Suggest trying also there ice cream they have Ashta. Very unique Mediterranean ice cream.

Yelp
4.6/5.0 Great value, delicious toum/garlic sauce Taste: Very happy with the fries and garlic sauce in the little chicken wrap. The bread was not too thick so it balanced just right with the filling. Experience: Easy in and out, would come for a no thrills meal or take away. The decor was barely existing, and that's fine. Didn't seem like it was meant as a sit down hang. Service was fast and pleasant. Cute family. Mood Before/After: Fullness: I could've eaten two wraps, but I think the price to fullness was a good deal. What else did I eat/do today affecting my experience: was just on my way to the gym in the rain, was pleasantly surprised by this.

Yelp
Talking about the best vegan sandwiches & Salads in the area, this restaurant has it. And for a lebanese woman to say it is the best Fatoush she every had, that says a lot. Not to mention the great customer service. Well done Mr. Vartan. Thanks you for making our Saturday yesterday. We will be back soon.
google avatar

Wassim K.

Yelp
Super friendly service and amazing sandwiches. Beef tongue sandwich and shish Tawook are my favorites. that they put French fries in some of their sandwiches. Highly recommend
google avatar

Rajiv R.

Yelp
Awesome sandwiches and wraps! The garlic sauce in the chicken shawarma was to die for. The fries were nice and crispy as well, added a nice layer of texture! There's a reason why there was a line when I got there!
google avatar

Daniel Z.

Yelp
The beef tongue sandwich was amazing! It has a great combination of garlic beef and a fresh flavor from the pickles and mint. Oh and the owner and his son were cool as hell! Great experience would come again

Yelp
Tucked away in a tiny strip mall, this small shop has big flavors. I've always enjoyed Lebanese food. I read a few posts about how the food was super authentic. So far I've only tried one sandwich - the chicken liver. I am a low carb eater and usually skip a lot of the bread in sandwiches. This bread was light and fresh, and yes, I ended up eating it all. The sandwich is primarily the liver and pickles. So simple, yet seasoned well. It's bursting with flavor. I look forward to trying more. I placed a mobile order which was ready when I arrived. It was a quick transaction, but the staff greeted me upon entry and seemed friendly. I will definitely try more.
google avatar

Leo J.

Yelp
Beef tongue sandwich is best I've tried. Meat is great, bread tastes light and fresh. The panini style toasting of the entire sandwich makes it just amazing. All the flavors in every bite. Family owned and operated and you can tell they care for their creations and customers.

Yelp
For anyone like me that missed Maru Pit Stop and wanted to try its new replacement, let me tell you it's so worth it! Family run business, clean, lots of parking, amazing hospitality/service. We tried the fattoush, chicken shawarma pita, fries, and rosto. I wish I was hungrier to try more because everything was phenomenal. Reminds me of the sandwiches you'd get in Europe and the Middle East. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Christine S.

Yelp
The tabouli here was by far one of the best and freshest ones I've tried! I would honestly come here just for the tabouli alone but definitely don't skip out on the other items! I enjoyed the chicken shawarma, which came with fries and pickles inside the wrap. Service was quick and easy. I like that there was a mini market with international snacks for purchase!
google avatar

Kevin M.

Yelp
The food taste, the quality, the service ... total package. My wife brought me here for lunch to show me taste of Lebanon, and it did not disappoint. By far the best shawarma in Southern California. Will be going back anytime I am near Glendale. It's a family run business, and boy do they care about their customers.
google avatar

Haroutioun B.

Yelp
Looks like I can't get enough of this place, so delicious sandwiches non comparable amazing taste, I usually come for the Tawouk, Rosto and the Tongue but today I tried the shawarma beef and chicken and I just stepped into another world of delicious flavors that I have been missing on since this place opened, once again A La Beirut showed us how amazing their sandwiches are and the amazing family behind all this creativity with the amazing customer service, I will always come back again and again, thank you .
google avatar

Yelp
First time we tried here and all I can say is PHENOMENAL. The Lebanese Burger was FIRE, took me back to Lebanon when my grandma used to make us after coming home from soccer practice. We also tried chicken tawouk and Rosto sandwich. Both were amazing and delicious. Please come and support this family owned business because they deserve our support. We are coming back soon with family and friends!

Susu G.

Yelp
IYKYK! This place is really good. Been here a couple times already and the taste is definitely there. Today I got the falafel (pronounced- faal-a-fil) the taste took me right back to the streets of Beirut, a summer night out with friends drinking and dancing , you head out to the local sandwich stand to grab some after hours street food! ahhh the nostalgia! Perfect amount of veggies and tahini sauce! My only complaint would be how big the sandwich is, you might end up skipping dinner if you eat the whole thing lol #perfection. Also, the place is spotless and service is fabulous, not to mention the tower of Lebanese chocolates and goodies available!
google avatar

Ale S.

Yelp
This place is delicious! I tried the cheese sandwich and my husband tried the falafel pita and we devoured our Hummus . The Superjus drink reminded me of boings from Mexico and my childhood. While we were enjoying our food, the person who took our order came over with two Superjus and said " I noticed you both checking out the drink." Kindness never gets old. I teared up with gratitude. I appreciated the food the people there and now this sweet memory. Hope you check out this place and enjoy the food and people like we did!

Aline B.

Yelp
Best Lebanese style sandwiches in all of LA! Absolutely amazing! This Lebanese sandwich spot is a hidden gem. The flavors are authentic, fresh, and perfectly balanced. Beautiful ambiance! Super friendly, always a warm welcome, the service is quick and efficient. You can tell they put a lot of care into their food. It felt like a little slice of Lebanon in every bite. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or sitting down to savor your meal, this place is a must-visit!

Myriam A.

Yelp
Best Lebanese sandwiches and service. They took me back home :) A must try, seriously!

Sarine B.

Yelp
Omg!!! It's the first Lebni sandwich I've found around and this place has the perfect one. This one is so so good i love the bread, and the service is great as well. I will definitely be back for more !!

Joshua S.

Yelp
I rarely review but I have to encourage everyone to try this wonderful food. Incredible service and friendly environment. I love everything I've tried and there's rare and exciting candy and snacks too!

Yelp
Love A La Beirut here, Lebanese food. My first time here and I was impressed with all of the different varieties of foods and drinks. Nice kind of high end place. I like the Fattoush and salads. Food not very expensive either. I'd come back again.
google avatar

Rafee A.

Yelp
Great Tongue sandwich, one of the best I ever had and I'm been around the block. Also had the hummus as a side it was fresh and tasty as well. Everything they do here is made to order so that's great. Family owned middle eastern restaurant should get the support of the community especially one as authentic and good as this one. I think next time I'll try the beef shawerma. I'm Posting the menu so check it out.

Yelp
Fairly new spot located in a mini complex. Family owned and operated, which is a huge plus for the area. Cute and quaint interior that was nice and bright that has a TV. Indoor seating is also available. Had the vegetarian friendly 'Lebanese style Lebni' sandwich press. It was so good. We used to have a Falafel Arax right next door in Glendale.. would always order this type of sandwich there & this one from A La Beirut was very close to it. This sando has creamy Lebneh/Lebni ( a thicker strained tangy yogurt spread) topped with fresh Persian cucumbers, sliced tomatoes, sliced black olives, Dried Mint, & Aleppo pepper seasoning. It's all pressed warm & crispy on a French baguette. Don't knock it till you try it! Their hummus is smooth & creamy comes with pita bread. Can't wait to return to try more of their other sandwiches. The place smelled amazing while waiting for my order.

Yelp
Got a Roast Beef Pressed French Baguette and a Chicken Shawarma Pita Wrap. Both were excellent. They also have a good deal of imported chocolate and potato chips for sale. Friendly service.
google avatar

Evelyn M.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Such a hidden gem. Family owned, great and friendly staff. We love everything. Not to mention how fresh all ingredients are. We come here at least twice a week. Definitely recommend it. Chef's kiss.
google avatar

Fares M.

Yelp
Excellent service, clean , family business , Chiken kabob and Garlic 10 over 10. I recommend everyone to try the baba ghanouj and the shawerma sandwich
google avatar

Emery Y.

Yelp
Just saw a negative review that is inconceivable. Note: I don't know the owners and have no association with the establishment. But frozen hummus? Pretty sure it's scientifically impossible: most of the liquid in hummus is oil and ground sesame... also oil. Unless they hittin it with liquid nitrogen This is a great little place right on the edge of Eagle Rock and Glendale. If you're serving Middle Eastern food anywhere close to Glendale, you need to be on. point. And they are. I enjoyed the ma'aneh on pressed baguette and it was absolutely delicious. The price is VERY reasonable, the place is immaculate and the service is prompt, friendly and a pleasure.

Vika P.

Yelp
I always order the fatoush salad with chicken skewers and it is delicious. Love this place! It's my go to lunch spot.
google avatar

Mona D.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing food and service is incredible over the top and the restaurant is very down to earth. Casual setting quick bike to eat. The meat is amazing !!
google avatar

Rosemary N.

Yelp
Food: We had the roast beef baguette and the beef tongue baguette. Food came out super quick and baguette was crunchy, warm, and toasty! Affordable, delicious, and filling. My favorite was the roast beef with the generous mayonnaise which was a great recommendation. Service: Super quick and friendly! Got free water and yogurt drink Ambiance: Clean and bright

Yelp
A la Beirut just opened, and I was there on the second day. I'd read a Facebook post about their sandwiches and how delicious they were. I've been waiting for a place like this to open in the neighborhood, and I'm glad they did! The food was delicious and sent my heart and stomach back home to Lebanon. Everything was well seasoned and really delicious. I've been back four times in the past eight days. I've told several family members and friends about this location, and they're all addicted. All of the ingredients are not only fresh, tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned, but they are also literally delicious. I am Lebanese and know the good and the bad. A La Beirut is without a doubt amazing!!! I've had every sandwich on the menu, including the two salads, Fattoush and Tabouli, which are both delicious. Finding authentic restaurants is difficult, and this is one of my new favorite spots. The toum (garlic sauce) is amazing, and the meats are very tender. A family-owned and run business. Everything is done with love, and you are always greeted with a smile. I love good people that treat their customers with so much love, good energy and respect. Highly recommend.
google avatar

tony c.

Yelp
Mind you I'm a meat eater and this time I only had the salad. What can I say, the salad was phenomenal. It's super fresh, onions, mint leaves, cucumber, onions and tomatoes. The portion was reasonable and perfect. The service was awesome and the place super nice and clean. Tomorrow I will be stopping by and having the tongue sandwich...
google avatar

Billy T.

Yelp
Super delicious food, great ambiance and reasonable prices will keep me coming back for more! Really enjoyed my Rosto (roast beef) baguette and tabouli (parsley, tomato & bulgur salad) for my first time. I enjoyed the simple toppings and extra mayo on the sandwich. The real star of the show was the tabouli. Just like it's done from my teta, extra lemon and seasoned perfectly. Did not need a thing! $21 for a quite filling lunch, if not starving could easily cut in half making 2 portions. Support this little gem!

Rita M.

Yelp
Delicious food and great service and very clean. I highly recommend it. It reminded me of the food in Lebanon.
google avatar

Rafik M.

Yelp
We also had the fattoush, french fries and the beef tongue We are definitely going to have to come back to try the rest of the menu!
google avatar

Thomas K.

Yelp
One of the best Lebanese style sandwich shops in LA period. I tried their sandwiches on 4 different occasions and I was blown away how delicious and well prepared they tasted. The preparation area was super clean and the food was just perfect. I tried all, chicken tawook, chicken liver, beef Lula, and soujouk sandwiches. Also the Fattoush salad is amazing

Kevin L.

Yelp
There's been a couple businesses at this location and this one will stick! Proper Lebanese sandwiches, wraps, and top notch service are just some highlights at this eatery. This business clearly serves the Lebanese community and thus has real authentic Lebanese food including their breakfasts set and beef tongue sandwich. My family enjoyed everything we had and the management was so kind to offer our kids Lebanese orange juice, which they loved for that extra hint of sweetness. Just too kind in providing a high chair without even asking and making sure we felt welcomed and taken care of. Five stars. Go!
google avatar

Karine M.

Yelp
Amazing food and amazing staff! Everything we ordered was delicious! It was my first time trying Beirut Shawarma and it was better than I anticipated it to be. The restaurant is super clean as well. The staff is so wonderful and cheerful makes you feel so welcomed. The best thing I had was the Chicken Shish Tawouk, absolutely incredible! The fattoush salad was also one of the best I have had! The dressing was the perfect touch for the salad. I Will be back soon when I want shawarma, well done!
google avatar

tinno A.

Yelp
Loved the food and the people. Had the Lebanese burger (was sooo craving a burger loaded with coleslaw, fries, pickles and ketchup on a sesame seed bun) and it hit the spot :). The shish tawook was toasted as it should be and was a perfect combination of grilled chicken, French fries and pickles.... Yum This family owned (Brother and sister run the front) sandwich shop is a breath of fresh air from home. Excited that they are in the area and will be coming back and bringing friends.
google avatar

Kathy S.

Yelp
I ordered a couple of sandwiches and it was delicious and affordable! I had the vegetarian cheese sandwich and they toasted it perfectly!!!! Service was great also!!! I recommend anyone in the area to give this place a try
google avatar

Aline G.

Yelp
Delicious tongue sandwich very flavorful and authentic Lebanese. Tabbouleh delicious just like homemade. Love it
google avatar

J-C F.

Yelp
Nice little place. I usually go there for their sandwiches, my favorites being the tongue and the chicken livers.
