Seattle’s Northgate Link Transit Extension Is Open, Making It Even Easier to Explore Restaurants on the North End - Eater Seattle

"With their flagship Phinney Ridge cafe slated to close in 2023, A la Mode Pies jumped on the opportunity to open a third location at the former site of Parfait Ice Cream in Ballard. Taking over a former ice cream shop has its perks: the decade-old bakery acquired Parfait’s pasteurizer, which will help A la Mode Pies expand its ice cream line." - Mark Van Streefkerk

Among the options available for pickup November 27 and 28 are an apple and ginger pear pie, a marionberry hazelnut pie, and something called Cookies and Scream, a decadent creation with chocolate graham cracker crust, chocolate sandwich cookies, and dark chocolate custard. Parfait Review - Ballard - Seattle - The Infatuation

"When we eat ice cream at Parfait, we feel really good inside. It probably has something to do with the fact that everything’s homemade, down to the oreo-style cookies in the coffee-steeped flavor, peanut butter cups in the dark chocolate, and the herbs they grow themselves for the spearmint stracciatella. But if you can only get one flavor here, it’s going to be the ice cream sweetened just with local honey. It’s a game-changer." - Aimee Rizzo

If you need to take dessert to a function this is the place to pick up a pie that everyone will love!! You can call ahead to reserve and pick up at your leisure. My favorite is the Mexican Chocolate Pie!

Google
We used A La Mode Pies for our wedding dessert, and they were a hit! We ordered marionberry, key lime, and cookies & crème pies, and they even threw in a mini pie for the bride & groom. We also loved that they offered the marionberry as a vegan pie to accommodate dietary restrictions. Many of our guests raved about how good the pies were, and we agree! Not only were the pies delicious, but the service was also great. The pies and ice cream were delivered well in advance of the event start, and they included garnishes for our display table, like limes for the key lime pie. As an added bonus, the pie tasting was absolutely my favorite part of wedding planning! We could tell during the tasting that Chris (owner) had a passion for his pies, and we were very pleased with the taste & service for our event.

The Crème Brûlée Cheesecake should be a permanent menu item! So decedent and succulent I also loved the Cherry Almond Cheesecake👌 The Seasonal items are the best.

Google
Sweet pies have always been great but twice i have bought a chicken pot pie that was supposed to be already cooked just needed to reheat it at home, and the crust was not cooked. It had a nice golden layer on the very top but right under that everything else was uncooked dough. The insides taste good but the crust is half the meal.

Google
Something is very different in the taste of the pies over the past year(ish?) and the staff if less supportive. Locks on the freezer cases now, coffee machines not functional at times, change in punch card rules... Look, service jobs are super tough and God knows I hated them when I worked them but it just feels like it's a "top down" slide in overall service.

Google
New to the area but have come a few times on weekdays and weekends for both savory (chicken pot pie) and sweet pies (key lime, Mexican chocolate). It’s perfectly good pie and everyone has been super friendly to me and my dog. Good hours means I can stop in for lunch or for dessert. Glad it’s in the neighborhood!

Google
Best ever pie shopping experience with a guy who works there. Never got your name but you’re from the south—your fun commentary, your recs, made pie shopping a super fun experience, thank you!! We loved peach pie the most, then strawberry rhubarb, then cherry

Amanda Guerrero

Google
Best cherry pie I have ever had! My husband doesn't even like pies and when I brought home a piece of the cherry pie for him to taste, he ate the whole thing. And requested we get some more :) Great service, great people!

Yelp
I came in on a Wednesday night and there was only one employee, there but there was Very good service and I didn't have to wait at all to get my order also the girl working helped me find some thing that fit my dietary restrictions. Also the vegan option was very good. Lastly the music that was playing was very upbeat and very good.

Yelp
Tried the Blue Hawaiian, and it was a tropical dream--blueberry, pineapple, and coconut all worked together perfectly. The crust was flaky and buttery, just how I like it. Cozy little spot, great for satisfying a pie craving. Would definitely come back to try more flavors!

Yelp
Great selection of pie! On busier days I would suggest calling to see what they have in stock. We had about 10 pies to choose from. The pies have great flavor and great texture. We loved that the banana cream had actual banana chunks. Inside is super cute and has a good amount of seating.

Yelp
It's PIE it's really good pie But also it's pie!! The place is a cute little shop (grab your merch guys!) and the service is always quick and friendly we even got an extra slice because ours looked a little small! So sweet! So stop buy grab a slice you can't go wrong Cheesecake 4/5 Mexican chocolate 5/5 Marion-berry hazelnut 5/5

Yelp
The best pie I think I've ever had is the Hawaiian from here: coconut, blueberry and pineapple. I hate pie crust and just eat the insides, however, the perfectly flakey, buttery crust was divine and I ate every crumb. My friend ordered the apple and I had a bite - yum! I don't care for apple pie, but yes, it was good. A couple tables indoors and outdoors. They offer ice cream too. A La Mode is available on Goldbelly.com. I had to order a Hawaiian and arriving at my house, it was just as good.

Yelp
An enjoyable experience all around! The toasted coconut cream pie and blue Hawaiian were both delightful treats. Eager to return and explore more flavors. The cafe's cozy ambiance was a nice touch, and the service was friendly and prompt. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Fabulous and delicious pies! I love the coconut cream but my favorite pie is a savory one! I absolutely love the chicken pot pie! Honestly it's best if they bake it for you, because I bought a frozen pie and made it at home but it just wasn't the same. The crust is thick and holds up well. The filling was thick and the potatoes were chunky! Good sized pieces of chicken too.

Yelp
My family of 3 came in on a Tuesday Night. 12/10/24 @ 8:20pm. There was 1 worker, no one at the counter and 1 family already seated. Service - We weren't acknowledged when we walked in nor when we got to the counter to order. When it was time to order we were still not being acknowledged till we awkwardly stood there staring at the employee. It was almost as if we had to ask if he was ready to take our order. When another group of 3 walks up to the counter to order we witness them being immediately greeted. This alone will have us not want us to recommend people to. Food - Pies are good and we always come here whenever we're in the area where one is. Marion Berry Milkshake - Not worth $12. It was more of a smoothie consistency and not enjoyable. This ended up in the trash after the 3rd sip. Overall this visit was disappointing.

Yelp
Zero stars for customer service. Very disappointing, employee was rude & it made me want to leave empty-handed

Susan F.

Yelp
Delicious quiche!! We placed an order online and the process was smooth from ordering to pick-up. We called the store to ask some questions and service was friendly and helpful. The 2 quiches were thoroughly enjoyed at a family brunch. We knew A la Mode pies were delicious. Now we know their quiches are too. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Had some great pies here after a trip next door to Katsu Burger and Sushi (pro tip: get the sushi). Anyway, the pies were great; fresh and moist. Plus the crust didn't make you go running for a beverage. Another bonus, the worker was super sweet: when I explained how rhubarb is probably a creation of the devil and should be avoided, she said could see that point of view, but when another person in our party said they liked rhubarb, she agreed with them too. GOOD WORK! [you are aware though, that rhubarb leaves are actually toxic? And you still order rhubarb? Well, that's on you, customer.] Their ice cream was a perfect pairing for the pies, too. For pie activities, I recommend A la Mode Pies in Ballard. Mostly because I don't know any other pie places... but still! I had a blueberry pie but I want to go back and try one of the cream pies.

Yelp
Cute little place, nice variety of pies. But, I had the Cookies & Cream, and it was very disappointing. It was sweet and creamy but didn't have that good balance of chocolate and salt that one would hope for. The crust didn't taste like chocolate as it should. Very disappointed. Service was pretty aloof also.
google avatar

Yen D.

Yelp
Got the petite cherry pie for $10. Loved the crust even though the insides tasted like canned pie cherries. Service was prompt. Inside didn't have much tables.
google avatar

Kaitlyn K.

Yelp
Decent pie for the price. I got the strawberry rurbarb pie. Pretty good. I wished they would ask you if you would like it warmed up. They served it straight out of the fridge, which was weird. Flavor was good though. Place was clean.

Yelp
Great selection of pies and perfect for a late night snack. The pies aren't fresh out of the oven so they aren't warm and flakey, but the flavors are well balanced and they aren't too sweet which is nice. The slices may seem a bit small but they're super filling also. The flavors of pie I got were the Blue Hawaiian and the Toasted Coconut Cream. The crust on both pies was tender but not super flakey or crispy. The Toasted Coconut Cream was surprisingly super light and very creamy. It had a nice toasty coconut flavor (as expected) and had a fresh sorta minty aftertaste. The Blue Hawaiian had a primarily blueberry flavor, which was a good balance of sweet and tart. The small chunks of pineapple helped accentuate the sweet tart flavor profile and it was really good. I really enjoyed the crunchy coconut crumble on the top which added a slight nuttiness and an amazing texture. I also enjoyed the ice cream here. I got the Mexican Hot Chocolate flavor and it tasted like a solid chocolate ice cream. It was really light and airy, almost like a soft serve, and had a rich dairy flavor that coated your mouth. The chocolate was present but not overwhelming, and it had a nice aftertaste of cinnamon. I got my pies delivered to me at 9 pm so I didn't get the freshest slices, but they were still pretty good. I imagine that if you went there early in the day and get some pie right when they're baked, it'll be amazing.

Yelp
The pie is great & Good people work here!! I didn't ask the person working name, but I think the person knows they did something amazing. keeping it cryptic for cya. My first time walking in, they were about to close and so I was offered a "closing special" with my order. I thought out loud "hmm, maybe this could help others"..the person overheard my thoughts and added to the "cs" so it could help more! Basically, my YouTube algorithm encouraged me to think kindly is all. Who ever it was working at A la Mode, just happened to hear me think aloud this time, and then upped the ante of kindness. I prefer privacy and anon for this kind of stuff, but I had to leave a review because it should be noted, that they hired this kind of person and hopefully have that type of kindness and thoughtfulness is prevalent there.

Yelp
"Shrinkage" Always been a fan of this local business for years, having been to all locations. My go is the Blue Hawaiian, which as many have written, is super excellent. But like many places, prices have risen substantially. A la Mode has always had premium pricing, but now I have the view this is a place one goes maybe once a year - the slices have gotten smaller and the prices higher. I think a whole Blue H pie is about $45, and a tiny slice is $8. 5 years ago that slice was substantially larger. It was nice knowing this place, but decisions have to be made by them and me. Eating out is a luxury and convienence, and one has to very selective these days.

Yelp
Scored a nearby parking space, The Homie and I decided to check out the new A la Mode site in Ballard (10/18/21). It's good to see the expansion of a successful indie, as they took over the former Parfait space. Original site is in Phinney Ridge by Woodland Park Zoo and the second one over in West Seattle by the Junction. This third location just opened three weeks ago. Easy peasy just a block north of Market near the Seattle Public Library branch and next door to Katsu Burger. Always welcoming, friendly counter staff. Nice space with limited seating. Lovely, enticing assortment of pies are displayed as you enter. There are also assorted beverages, espresso, and ice cream on hand. They also have fun merch like Tshirts and mugs for purchase. I selected a slice of the Mexican Chocolate Mousse pie. The Homie decided on a slice of the seasonal Chai Tea & Caramel cheesecake, plus a Caffe Umbria cold brew. Consistent quality, rich and decadent. It was amusing to eat my pie though with a soup spoon, lol. It's great that slices are served in recyclable triangle containers for easy transport and storage. Ballard has a wide variety of desserts and sweets options. Perfect for a treat, after a movie at The Bay, after a meal at one of a gazillion nearby restaurants/bars, after that stroll through the Sunday Farmers Market, need to grab something for a potluck, last minute gathering, or outdoor picnic at The Locks or Golden Gardens..definitely add A la Mode - Ballard to your rotation.

Yelp
I was craving some apple pie and thankfully A La Mode was open! I picked up a slice of their French Apple Pie for $8. It's not cheap but the flavor was great! Wonderfully spiced with a crumbly topping. I would definitely come here again.
google avatar

Yelp
We went in to grab a slice earlier this afternoon and we received amazing service! They were incredibly kind and generous to us two broke college students and the raspberry pie was delicious!
google avatar

Megan P.

Yelp
I originally stopped into a La mode pie to ask to use their restroom to change my infant. The employees were so kind and accommodating to me and my son. They even told me how great of a job I was doing as a mom which was so sweet! I ended up staying with my family for pie and coffee. The cookies and cream pie was phenomenal! Highly recommend based on how wonderful the staff is and how good the pie is!
google avatar

Christine S.

Yelp
Love ! Love! Love! Delicious pies and the staff always go out of their way to help and make you feel special . Highly recommend this neighborhood pie place!!!
google avatar

Rachel J.

Yelp
The service was quick and friendly. I ordered the cookies and cream pie (which was absolutely delicious!) for pick up and was very glad that it was ready to pick up well before my assigned pick up time. The street parking is a bit hit or miss but we got lucky this time.

Yelp
First time at this location, always been going to the greenwood location but I think it's closed for renovation. Great apple pie, prices has gone up a lot since I first started going here.

Yelp
Amazing!!! I had heard about A la Mode from a friend but hadn't taken the time to stop by until today. I was thoroughly impressed by the service, quality, and general vibe of A la Mode. I ordered a slice of star spangled sour cherry and a pint of Madagascar vanilla. The ice cream was fresh - made yesterday - by the woman at the counter. The pie A la Mode was absolutely fabulous. I fully intend to make this shop my go to "treat yourself" location while here in Ballard!

Yelp
This is my favorite pie in Seattle! Their buttery crust is to die for, especially for the pies with the crispy/crumbly top crust like the apple and raspberry crumble flavors. I love A La Mode. People who like Pie Bar over this place are really sleepin on it. Pie Bar is for drunk people who walk out of the cap hill bars and need food, and it comes out all hot and melty without time to set. A La Mode is for people who appreciate a quality pie with great ingredients and Molly Moons ice cream on the side. The flavors are great. I love the raspberry crumble and the strawberry rhubarb if you like fruity flavors. The strawberry rhubarb is a bit tart for me, so I like it with some ice cream. My boyfriend really likes the French Apple. My favorite is the white chocolate banana cream, but they only have it on the weekends. Each time we go, we get a stamp on our pie card for every slice - 10th stamp is a free slice! The slices are $8 each, so not cheap, but I know they put hard work and love into their pies, so for me it is worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
Pies were delicious. Not to sweet. We had the Blue Hawaiian and Mexican Chocolate. The girl was super sweet. Cute little shop. Make sure to get there earlier than later because they sell out.

Yelp
A lovely addition to the Ballard neighborhood I'll definitely be returning to. LET'S GET TO THE CRUST OF THE MATTER. Walking in, we were greeted by a large selection of pies that all looked beautiful. We opted for a slice of Hawaiian pie (blueberry, coconut, pineapple) which has such a delightful taste where all flavors shined and the sweetness level was not too overwhelming. There was so much filling the crust on the bottom understandably got soggy. Still, the slice was a generous portion and a great way to end our night after eating dinner at another Ballard spot. The tea preparation could have used work as I got so many jasmine tea leaves it quickly overseeped and became fairly bitter. PIE CURIOUS. The shop itself was spotless and felt like a friendly place to spend time. They had adorable shirts and cards for sale as well. The one staff member working seemed a bit frazzled and took a while to get our slice of pie and a cup of team, though they were overall friendly. Street parking was easily available and they also had whole take and bake pies available as well as ice cream selections. I heard this location was broken into a few nights ago, after just moving to this location. I hope our Ballard community shows up in support of this sweet place.

Yelp
This location is a nice addition to the Ballard area. It is not on the main drive which is a positive attribute because it makes a not so chaotic spot to go and enjoy a treat. The storefront has a small area in front with a couple of outside tables that is almost like a garden area so it has a little bit of charm. The other aspects are like the other locations as far as pie options and ice cream. They serve the same flavors and quality of ala mode pie. If you haven't had any yet at any other location, the pie is good. They have their standard flavors and are always rotating seasonal or limited edition flavors. I would go with an open mind because there is never any guarantee that they will have any particular one at any time. They are often out or didn't get a particular flavor sent that day. It is also pricey for the size of slice that you get, and like everywhere now, keeps going up; but it's similar to like minded dessert places. It's a great place to treat yourself.

A W.

Yelp
Can't see any greatness in the pies. They managed to roll out the pie crust so thin that I could barely see or taste the bottom crust. I wonder if it's a cost cutting measure? Also, the crust was barely baked and had no flaky crispness that's essential to a good pie, especially if you're paying $8 per tiny slice. All I could taste was the sugary filling. At this price, you'd expect a top notch quality and it's just not there.
google avatar

Elissa J.

Yelp
All of the pies are so delicious. The peanut butter cream is the best one. The staff is always friendly as well.
google avatar

Ruby V.

Yelp
I tried the Oreo cookie pie. It was pretty good. I would recommend to go early so you have more variety to choose from.

Ryan H.

Yelp
Magical pies, every bit as delicious as they look. Super convenient location in Ballard, but worth coming from anywhere in seattle. Bring your appetite, or just ring it home. Service was great.
google avatar

Brett W.

Yelp
I came here on a whim because I was walking by after dinner and this was the best spur of the moment decision. This is like going to an ice cream shop but instead of ice cream. It's pie. They have all the classic pie flavors as well as some fun twists added. We got the strawberry shortcake cheesecake, blue Hawaiian, and apple pie. Each of these pies were excellent and disappeared at the speed of light. Honestly it would be dangerous if I had access to this place on a regular basis. Definitely stop by! they also serve coffee and ice cream to go with your dessert! I mean, what more could you need?
google avatar

Tami V.

Yelp
Yummy pie! I was walking Bear and was across the street. He decided we should turn to go to A LA Mode. He was right. I ordered the S'More pie - who needs a bonfire! Hit the spot. Return visit the next day and ordered the Coconut Crème pie- I loved it! Bear gets a bite of crust. Decided he goes there with mommy enough - she is totally busted- but another Bear's Best of Ballard - he has not led me astray yet!
google avatar

S R.

Yelp
Calm ambience and great service. We got an extra slice of the bourbon walnut pie for free. The slices tasted great.
google avatar

Sarah H.

Yelp
In a side by side comparison of A La Mode and Pie Bar, A La Mode takes the pie hands down! Their pies aren't something you can just buy at the grocery store - they look and taste better in every way. My favorite is the Blue Hawaiian and White Choco Banana. On the very rare occasion that Ballard gets slices of the white choco banana, I buy two and it's always a custom order full white choco banana when I have a party to go to! The Ballard location is not really an eat-in kinda place, so we take them to go, but they taste amazing whichever way it goes down.
google avatar

Kari D.

Yelp
We were attempting to go to another pie place and got trapped for an event, so we looked up the closest place to where we were stuck and we weren't disappointed. We got a slice each of apple crumble and strawberry rhubarb. They were so good, and the woman working was very friendly.

Joe F.

Yelp
By far this place is THE BEST pie restaurant. Came here 9/23/22 at 7:45pm and the young lady working was OUTSTANDING she was all about CUSTOMER SERVICE and providing the best CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE. Come visit - TODAY!!!
google avatar

Paul A.

Yelp
Great pies. Friendly service. The apple pie is delicious. It's hard to pick a favorite.
google avatar

Tali H.

Yelp
Oh my god! So good. You get what you pay for when it comes to pie, and this truly tastes as delicious as you expect $8 pie slices to taste. I tried the strawberry rhubarb-- it was so nice to just sit down and thoroughly savor it. Lose yourself in this pie.

Colin Y.

Yelp
Maybe don't offer lemon meringue in slice form if they end up looking like mush when scooping it in the box? Enjoy their pies and glad they open a shop in Ballard but loses a star on the packaging.
google avatar

S. M.

Yelp
Very yummy apple, pear ginger! I really liked this seasonal pie. I have also had their blueberry and a couple of others, but so far apple-pear is my favorite. A perfect fall treat.

LeighAnn B.

Yelp
What am I missing here? The store opens at 2:00. I've gone at 3:00 multiple days now and they've been out of all but 2 of their creamy pies. No coconut cream or cookies and cream either time. Very few flavors of whole pies to buy. Two maybe..? Things are pretty picked over an hour into their day. I hear rave reviews so I guess it's best suited for pie lovers who walk in and can enjoy anything that happens to be there. I asked the employee if they make more or if what's in the case is what's available for the day. and she said that's all they had. How do they make it until 9:00 when they close?
google avatar

Molly B.

Yelp
Had a slice of the raspberry crumble this evening and it was one of the best slices of pie I've ever had. Out of this world raspberry flavor. Will definitely be returning for more!

Carol T.

Yelp
Great customer service - welcoming. Pie crust is delish. Every flavor pie we have tried is so yummy - not too sweet on the fruit pies. PB is seasonal - decadent.
