Where to Eat in NYC on Black Friday | Eater NY

"A longstanding Harlem seafood mainstay where whiting sandwiches are piled high with filets; other highlights include steamer clams and all-day seafood breakfasts." - Robert Sietsema

The Best Soul Food In NYC

"This soul food spot with three locations in Harlem won us over with their mac and cheese. A great Southern-style mac is a rare find in New York, but the one here has just enough of that custard-like quality to keep you from moving to Atlanta. You can get a seductive pile of pasta swimming in a semi-congealed pool of cheese sauce with plenty of black pepper mixed in, and a bunch of fried things (shrimp, catfish, okra) to complete the meal. There are only a couple seats at every location, so plan to get takeout." - carina finn koeppicus, bryan kim, neha talreja, kenny yang

The catfish is the best in the world. I love the way they bread the fish. It doesn’t taste too doughy or or starchy plus it’s seasoned very well. I highly recommend this place for any of your soul food cravings.

I have eaten from the franchise before but never this location. It's a takeout location. The cashier was very pleasant and quick. The location looked clean, and you were able to see your food being cooked in front of your eyes. I took a flyer because I will definitely order from them.

This is a pretty good fish spot. I especially liked the location on the east side many moons ago. The food was absolutely amazing. Today, it was alright. Perhaps it's my taste buds of late. Also, like any other food spot, it depends on whose cooking in the back and the day of the week 😉. Nonetheless, I recommend this place-serving fried fish/seafood with an assortment of "soul food"sides. Collards, candied yams, potato salad,Mac&Cheese, etc.. It's nice to see that they're still in business after 3 decades or so. 🦞🐟🍤 I was a wee bit annoyed about my cake. I ordered coconut & received chocolate. It was good, though🍰

The food is excellent and the customer service is good at the 125th location that is close to 5th Ave. I ordered a 3 pice Whiting dinner with Collard Greens and Potato Salad. They give you your money's worth. Their is no table sitting just take out. The also have a catering menu that you can ask for that is right by the cashier.

The shrimp are severely over cooked, the potato salad is too sweet & the Mac & cheese taste like it’s boxed. Then they have the nerve to give you tartar sauce in packets. I will never go back to this establishment. This food is inedible & have the audacity to charge $24 for this disaster. Don’t waste your money here. Next time go to Sugar Hill Fish Place, that’s where I would have went but they’re closed on Sundays.

Unfortunately the food is not consistent. The last time I ordered. Everything was excellent. This time, the food was bland. The mac and cheese was just creamy not southern baked. Collards was watery and shrimp were not really seasoned and soft. When they finally opened everything wasn't done. Mac and cheese was another 25 minutes. Smh. It never fails....and we have to do better! If u go to a Chinese restaurant and order you will never hear something isn't ready once the store being open for business. As far as the service. Well everyone just seems miserable and unhappy. I was there when they opened so that's how the day started. This energy definitely transfers to the food! The tone is usually set by management. I wish them well and hope they work on the consistency of the food and overall attitude and tone when dealing with their customers. There are so many new places to try and you have to have something to keep people coming back.... it will be a while for me.

Shrimp sandy and over cooked to mush . Not cleaned . Clams were huge and over cooked . That was cheese and Mac and not Mac and cheese . First and last time eating. Here . I’ll wait for my food at lighthouse because I know it will be delicious. Cheap with the butter as well .the reviews don’t match what I got at all .

I visited this location in early September 2022. I’m glad they reopened on 125th. Whenever I’m in the mood some fried whiting this is the place to go. They are honest about their whiting fish and not just pass on tilapia as whiting as other seafood restaurants I’ve visited in the past has done. Their whiting fish is also filet as I want to enjoy my food and not have to worry about picking out the bones. This location is not a dine in restaurant. You order you food and go. The sides are also delicious, I’ve had the baked macaroni and cheese, candied yams, collard greens, and corn bread. They have a variety of items on their menu including desserts. The restaurant is cash only. If you don’t happen to have cash on you there is an ATM located inside. The Restaurant is also accessible via public transportation.
