The 16 Best Restaurants In Ballard - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Aa raises the bar for casual sushi so high, it smashes through the ceiling and bonks an unsuspecting seagull. For the same cost as a typical one-person omakase, it’s feasible to fill the table with over a dozen luxury-level nigiri, rolls galore, and practically a gallon of miso soup. But a meal here is not just a good value—the sushi is downright excellent. Rice is kept at a temperature that softens slightly upon contact with buttery yellowtail belly. Rolls are tight and tasty. And if you wanted to tack on some tamago Spam musubi or lemon-squeezed chicken karaage, spontaneity pays off." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

Aa Sushi - Review - Ballard - Seattle - The Infatuation

"For bento boxes, nigiri sets, and loaded sushi rolls, there's Aa Sushi in Ballard. This is the second location for the Japanese restaurant (there’s one in Kirkland) and it’s open from 11-9pm. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Kayla Sager-Riley

Google
We're so glad a place opened up in Ballard serving reasonably priced sushi. The fish is super fresh, and the rolls are creative and delicious. There is also a good amount of hot food options as well. Menu is a little confusing because the paper menu and the actual menu are slightly different, so some things require you to order by writing it down on the bottom of the page. But all in all, the restaurant is great and the staff are super friendly and welcoming.

Absolutely amazing! Loved everything we had, the miso soup was delicious, and the rolls were just wow. The service was incredible too. They also have good vegetarian options! Definitely coming back. Such a great spot with amazing food.

This is my new favorite sushi place in Seattle. Outstanding sushi. Friendly and attentive service. Great value. I am blown away by how good the food is and how affordable the prices are. It’s priced like kaiten sushi but made fresh to order. The seared garlic shrimp and seared salmon toro were especially tasty. Scallop nigiri, salmon toro and Atlantic salmon, hamachi… all amazing (I’m getting hungry just writing this). Also their seaweed salad struck me as unusually good. The sashimi platter is a screaming deal at 19.99. Because it’s a former conveyor belt place, the rolls are in convenient 4-piece size, which means you can get more variety in your meal. Love it. I’m so excited to have this place in Ballard. It’s so good it should be named triple a.

Google
TLDR; really affordable high quality sushi We came in after reading reviews and everything truly lived up to expectations. The food is amazing. The staff and owner are exceptionally warm and kind. Between the two of us, we ordered 11 items - cucumber salad, veg ramen, sexy roll, dragon roll, summer roll, cucumber roll, volcano roll, salmon bomb, yellowtail nigiri, mackerel nigiri and one other roll - each roll has 4 pieces and nigiri has 2, so getting to 11 items is quite easy. 😅 Everything was absolutely delicious - the fish tastes fresh, the ramen at $5.50 has a ton of flavor. My absolute favorite was the summer roll for sure - it tastes really fresh and light and the mango on top is just amazing. Highly recommend this spot!

Billy Beach used to be one of my favorite sushi spots before COVID, so I was curious about this place that replaced it. AA sushi kept most of the dining area the same. It seems like they changed the flooring because I don't remember it being so slippery, even all the way to the restrooms. Ordering is similar to dim sum where you fill out a form with what you want to order. The menu is kind of like conveyor belt sushi where you have to match the colors to the prices. That was annoying having to do because later on when I got my itemized receipt, I realized the prices don't even match. The king salmon nigiri is almost $1 more than what the menu marked. Who knows what else is wrong on the menu, so they need to update their menus. I like this concept of serving smaller rolls, so I can try more different things. At other sushi spots, I usually get stuck having to decide which rolls to order, so I don't overeat, even though I want so many. I noticed some other rolls people ordered were very tiny all around, even though they're half sizes. The Godzilla roll I ordered was regular sized. Most/all of the sauce was on the plate instead of the roll, so I forgot to sauce my first bite.

Google
Delicious nigiri options. Our favorite was the seared salmon nigiri - totally melts in your mouth. Fish tasted fresh and high quality, especially for the price. Staff was so kind. They were very busy (rightfully so). They’re leveling up their staff right now, so be patient with them <3 the wait is worth it!

Google
This is my new favorite sushi spot! The garlic seared salmon nigiri is amazing!! All of their fish is really fresh. I love that their rolls are smaller, so you can order more variety. Also, great customer service. Definitely recommend!!

Yelp
The best sushi in Ballard. The sushi was fresh and tasted really good and the ramen was good as well. Our server was very friendly. Will go back again. Thank you Aa Sushi.

Yelp
Great spot for a quick bite with affordable prices, extensive menu, fast service, and super friendly staff. Small, appropriately priced dishes allow you to try out a few things per visit. It's a very welcome addition to the neighborhood which can otherwise be a bit expensive and upscale nowadays. Just come with the expectations of a casual vibe (there is a TV unfortunately) and you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Happy to see a new sushi spot opened up in Ballard, so I tried it out for take out. We got a few rolls and every one was REALLY good. I like that their rolls have 4-6 pieces (prices reflect this) vs the standard 8, so you can try a few different options.

Yelp
A great spot to try lots of sushi in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle! Located next to the Ballard farmers market, parking is street only. The miso soup is on par with most I've tried. The calamari was a small portion but had great seasoning. I would get both of these things again. The service was quick and helpful - they are happy to answer questions and check in throughout. The ambiance is clean and moderately quiet. Nothing to write home about but made for an enjoyable experience. If you are in the area, check them out!!!

Yelp
Great new addition to the neighborhood! Online ordering is easy - plus I live in the area so it was nice to do a quick pick up. Not sure if sister restaurant to the "sushi go round" aa sushi in Kirkland, but the menu is set up similarly...just no carrousel inside. My order was ready within roughly 30 minutes (a few more than the online system quoted, but no biggie). The staff are friendly and would certainly be up for eating inside next time around. My sushi order + tonkatsu ramen + edamame was all pretty good. Including tip, I paid around $40+ (this included a 15% discount by ordering online for over $35) My fave was the seared salmon. Perfect char flavor! Same with the salmon bomb...nicely cooked and great flavor. The dragon roll was pretty good. Spicy tuna is straight forward. I enjoy that these rolls come in smaller portions so you can try more of a variety! The ramen was alright...broth was flavorful, but nothing super special. I'd stick to the rolls. Highly recommend stopping in!

Yelp
We were not fans of this spot mainly because of the food. We had the calamari, gyoza, and 4 rolls of sushi. The calamari was terrible and not edible. The seafood in the sushi tasted old. The seating is uncomfortable and the illumination is very distracting.

Yelp
I heard this place just opened and was worth checking out. I was excited to see a new sushi spot open! I was in the area around 5pm looking for some food and thought I would give it a try. I had miso soup, green tea, 4 sets of top tier nigiri, and 3 rolls and with tip it was about $45. I have been going all the way to Cap Hill for my sushi fixes, but will be visiting here more often. The server was very kind and helpful, she was the only one on the floor with about 8 tables going at a time, so if you come in be a little patient, it's worth it. Everything came out quickly, was great quality, and a good atmosphere. Just maybe not the "I have 20 minutes to eat" pace. I was in no rush and felt attended to without feeling like she was trying to flip my table and push me out. She checked in on me a few times to make sure I was happy. Amazing prices, good quality, will be coming back soon.

Yelp
I've been here twice now and I'm certain it'll become a lunch staple for me. The service, quality of food and prices are just unbeatable. Can't wait to work my way through the menu!

Yelp
Great quality sushi at an unbeatable price point. I literally haven't seen sushi prices this cheap anywhere in the city, even pre-pandemic. The owner is an absolute gem, one of the friendliest guys around. Highly recommend stopping by to check this place out if you're in the area!

Yelp
I love this new sushi spot! Well priced with great service. I particularly like how well setup it is for family style. You get to try so many more options as most orders are smaller, such as rolls being closer to half size.

Yelp
Service was excellent and the fish was fresh and so good! They were very kind with our 4 year old daughter. The rolls are smaller than normal which I appreciated since it meant we got to try more! This is definitely our new go-to sushi place in the neighborhood.

Jen R.

Yelp
Delicious sushi, great service, nice atmosphere and fair prices. I would definitely recommend this place to others. I liked that the rolls only had 4 pieces in them, that way we could try a bigger variety of rolls. Everything we tried was really tasty and fresh!

Jason R.

Yelp
We just got done with dinner there and had a wonderful experience. The staff are all very kind and welcoming and the food was delicious. I don't eat sushi often and this place has me excited to go back for more. Highest level of food, service and ambiance, in all of Ballard.

John F.

Yelp
The most delicious nigiri I have had in years. Busy but not crowded on a Monday night.

Matthew M.

Yelp
We love the sushi and service at this place. They are so friendly here and we love the smaller portion size for the rolls and other food so we can try different items out. Plus the prices are very good. We come here at least a few times a month. Being open for lunch is also a plus

Yelp
My new favorite sushi spot!! Food was incredible. Loved the tempura, calamari, and lion king and Fuji rolls. Service was wonderful, and great prices!

Kristin Z.

Yelp
Welcome this amazing restaurant to the neighborhood. The miso soup, sashimi platter, so amazing and the red devil roll was a huge hit! The service fast and friendly. Can't wait to go back!
