I took my gf here to celebrate life, a dinner experience. We were greeted warmly by our waitress, escorted to our seats, and seated promptly. the vibe was incredible! the restaurant is a hidden gem in DTLA. It is tucked away, and the staff was on point. the food was so fresh and tasty and the drinks were perfect. she loved it! we will visit again soon!

First let me say, it was refreshing to be in a space with no drama with all the liquor flowing😁. The food was immaculate, everything was well seasoned and came out hot and fresh *as it should have for the wait*, but my four stars is for the service and forced tip; the waitress we had was amazing and very attentive *as much as she could have been* there were plenty of other staff walking around, dont know what there jobs were so don't wanna speculate. There is a mandatory 20% gratitude added to EVERY CHECK no matter the size of your party. The food is already "expensive" so adding on a 20% gratitude, expect to spend more. I don't mind the gratitude but that should be left up to the patrons, when most of the time those tips are pooled and the waiter or waitress helping you won't even see the entire tip. *even though I additional tipped my waitress graciously*, she deserved it. The Oxtail mac was hot, bubbling The Salmon and shrimp, seasoned but over cooked The curry and jerk chicken, great and slightly spicy*obviously* All was amazing Would I go again, yes, just with a larger party to make sense of the added 20% gratitude

We tried a variety of their dishes and food was good overall! Tried the Chicken bowl, samon bowl, curry chicken, mac n cheese and a couple of their patties. A couple of complaints I have are the following: 1. I ordered online. My receipt said to pick up in 40 minutes and I was there after about 50 mins. They had no idea what I had ordered. I had to give them my order and they started cooking it then, so I had to wait another 15 minutes. Very disappointing. 2. The mac n cheese we got was very spicy which was not described in the online order.

Ordered two jerked chicken entrees and everything was old and salty. Rice was a literal brick. Ordered mac and cheese and it had zero seasoning. I would never waste my money here again

This food right here! Amazing and delicious! I ordered the big plate of Oxtails as well the Jerk Shrimp Bowl and they are Heavenly! Wow! Try tried the Beef Patty and was wowed again. Planning to eat my way through the whole menu! 😋

I visited from out of state. Jordan was our server and he did great to be the ONLY server. The food was good as well. The only suggestion is to add on the website that the 216 location is closed on Saturday. If you aren’t a local, you wouldn’t know that. Overall I would visit again!

The oxtail Mac and cheese was out of this world. Absolutely delicious, as were our drinks! I will say when we walked in it was a bit unclear if we just seated ourselves or report to the hostess.

The esthetic is nice and music is okay. The food was not good at all I spent 65 dollars and ate 4 bites. Callaloo was burnt, rice was undercooked, and the Ackee And salt fish was like porridge 🤦🏾‍♀️. I could go to Dat Moi Market and make all of this myself for a fraction of what I paid and it would taste better. Our table was so small the server couldn’t fit everything we ordered.

Delicious Beef patty's here. The pastry and ground beef is on point. The ones I've had in Jamaica were extremely spicy mouth burning but these were delicious, I like to dip mine in some sour cream at home. Their oxtail plate and bowl are unctuous melt in your mouth. The seasoning and flavors are done well. I just wish there was more oxtail but oxtail is extremely expensive the past few years so I can't blame the establishment for supply and demand on the item. The cabbage veggie side is nice and crunchy with a soft texture at the same time. Plantains that corn with it are a hit or Miss some are soft and cooked through some are on the harder side. Really wish they served Festival bread here . It's like a fried corn bread in stock form. That would be the ultimate cherry on top. Overall this cute little cafe is worth the trip with nice out door seating.

I've been wanting to come to this place for a long time. I finally made my way over there on 3/26/2024. I didn't realize they had two locations so I ended up at the "cafe" (in case you don't know about the restaurant). The food was no where close to the value of the price. I got the Jerk shrimp and got 4 pieces of shrimp, dried plantains, bland rice and cabbage for $22. Though I wouldn't say it was disgusting, I would never go back. Like I alluded to about the "Cafe", it's more like small outpost to pick up food than it is a Cafe. There's probably enough seating 4 - 6 people max. It wasn't a huge issue. The service wasn't great but it wasn't a big deal to me. The lady was rushing to leave or close the register and made it known often. Again, not a huge deal to me. All in all, the food is not good. Hopefully the restaurant serves better food.

I think I just got there before they were really open... food was more salty than seasoned to me. we were disappointed with the vegan bowl option tho too. I'm going to try again soon. It was smelling tooo good not to

I was very unimpressed with this spot. The macaroni and cheese was very underwhelming and tasted similar to Stouffers frozen macaroni. The oxtails were ok, but were overly spiced yet still flavorless. For $16 it seemed portioned for a child. The location was clean, but I've had better food at other Jamaican food locations in LA. The service wasn't great either. Eh. I won't be going back. Spent a lot. Got a little. They weren't very welcoming. The food kinda sucked.

Great first stop off the train. Nice to be back, this place is conveniently located in downtown.

If you're craving Caribbean and you're in DTLA area, this is your best beth. They have good portions for lunch and their patties are excellent. Every time I've ordered it was to go. I don't think I have pictures Brown stew chicken, I'm still, jerk chicken I've tried all three and they're good.

I was walking by and it happened to be lunch time. I saw someone setting up a nice outdoor sitting area and I figured let's give it a shot. I always like trying new places and more specifically new types of food. I ordered to go and was absolutely delighted with the taste, spice, flavors. Overall well balanced food, smells coming out of the kitchen are enchanting. Don't think twice, stop, place an order and expect to return, I will.

The restaurant is small, so it may be easy to miss if you aren't paying enough attention. Keep in mind you may need to park on the street a block over or in a parking garage. There's a garage right across the street (on the same side as the restaurant) that offers all day parking for just $10 (CASH ONLY). It's worth it even if you're only going to the restaurant. It's more worth it if you plan to do some shopping across the street. Now, onto the good stuff! I went on a brunch date with my love, and we both had bottomless mimosas. All the juice options are amazing! They bring you a bottle at a time, which is nice because you don't have to wait for someone to fill your glass after each mimosa. We went through 3 bottles of champagne. I promise we don't have a problem. I ordered the plantain French toast, and it was delicious. I'm not a huge fan of French toast because it can taste too much like eggs, BUT this French toast was A1! The plantains were also cooked to perfection. My love ordered the garlic shrimp omelette, and I started to tell our waiter (SHOUTOUT TO JAMAL!!) I wanted to trade my French toast for the omelette. There was so much flavor, and the portion size for both our plates was perfect! After our 1st champagne bottle, we were already planning what we'd order the next time we go. The vibes are immaculate, and all the staff is inviting, friendly, and professional. Jamal did an amazing job! I hope we're seated with him next time. NOTE: It can get loud depending on people's party size (the tables are pretty close to each other), and there's music playing, but it's not unbearable. If you've been thinking of going, gone 'head and check it out. I went on a Saturday at 1230. We didn't leave until close to--if not a little after 5pm. MORE IMPORTANT NOTE: Bottomless mimosas are offered on weekends, not just Sundays

I'd always pass by this place as it's close to work so today I decided to give it a try. I ordered the jerk chicken entree, And 2 beef patties. I was greeted with a huge smile when I walked in followed by "how can I help you today". Great customer service. I placed my order and he got right to work in it. My food was piping hot when handed to me. I get back to my office and open up the plate. The first bite of that jerk chicken was heaven. Perfectly seasoned. The rice and peas were good too. It also came with plantains. I will have to come back again to try the other entrees because the food was so good.

I came to abeautifullife yesterday evening for dinner, it's like a little pop up shop, where you order and pick up your food. There was no seating or dining-in, just one rude lady taking our orders at the front. The food now, was different. The portion sizes were much, much smaller from the last time I ordered from them. The quality of the food was also lacking. I ordered the jerk chicken plate with a side of Mac n cheese. The Mac was so runny and tasteless, like a cheese soup with noodles in it. It's definitely not authentic. The lady cooking the food wasn't even Jamaican lol. Needless to say I won't be ordering from here again. They have another location in San Pedro....best ti go to that one. Instead of spring street location.

The food was good but definitely over priced. The service was great, the bartender & manager were very attentive. It was a Sunday brunch so it was very loud and crowded but people were having a great time.

I always try to give the small businesses a chance and for the most part they never disappoint. But this place here is a fraud! I watched him heat my food in a microwave sad I was shocked, so that means that it's not fresh, ok then I tried it out and it's not real Jamaican food or at least it doesn't taste or smell like it. Had I known that it would have been this bad I never would've ate here.

By far the worst Jamaican food I've ever had. Not to mention the AC was not working and it was 91 degrees on Saturday. Came for lunch. The atmosphere was more of a lounge or bar, not quality authentic Jamaican food. The beef patty was so dry. Was brought a warm pitcher of water asked for ice several times, the owner actually ended up bringing a carafe off ice. The over priced cocktail was served warm as well. I ordered the oxtails with rice and peas, asked could I have gravy over the rice, the waiter insisted they did not have gravy, explaining I wanted what the oxtails were cooked in over my rice. The food came out and i feel like it had been microwaved and thrown on a plate the plantains were brunt black and were flavorless and soggy from reheating. The rice and peas tasted like some type of instant rice. This decor of the establishment was nice. The music selection was good. My friend enjoyed the mule and said it was refreshing. I would never come back here for food. I am very disappointed with my experience not to mention the money I spent. The service was subpar and the price was a bit much. I had heard about this place for a few months and really looked forward to it. This is an over priced hookah lounge in my opinion.

This has to be one of the worst Jamaican restaurants I've ever experienced from the food to the tacky service. I don't have a problem paying $$$$ for good food but when it's horrible and they have the nerve to charge a 20% gratuity to all bills I have a problem with that. Don't waste your time or money at this place. TikTok is a lie there is no way this place was good. I knew it was a reason they had only 3 1/2 stars. Even after reading reviews we still have them a chance. I blame me but it won't happen again.

Avoid the beef and chicken patties at all cost. I spent my last on two chicken Pattie's and the guy didn't even have the apple pay ready. He looked me in my face and sold me the nastiest coldest two chicken Pattie's I've ever had in my life. And Jamaican food is my favorite type of food to eat. There's a way better place right around the corner where it's way better the Pattie's are always hot and fresh I suggest making them at home before you try this place. Deeply hurt and disgusted by my experience and I definitely will not be back.

If I could give this restaurant 100 stars I would. I am now just leaving a date. He picked this restaurant out never been here before and who doesn't love a Sunday brunch Mamosa good energy good time good vibes . Soon as I arrived, the hostess was very nice. I let them know our reservation time and he seated me in an area which was very excluded but very much you can see everything. Our wonderful waiter. Diamond was just amazing. I complimented her hair because it was pink and that's my favorite color. Overall probably one of the best customer service I think I've ever had, she was very well and detailed of the food even though I've never had oxtails before. She definitely encourage me to try it, which I didn't eat it, but my day did and it was good I got the salmon jerk plate, which was amazing with rice and cabbage. I absolutely love this place. The music was good. The vibes are good me and my day we're having great conversation and dancing and that's really all I needed to bless me on this beautiful Sunday thank you amazing restaurant diamond you are amazing and I hope that you see this review because you definitely made my Sl experience at this restaurant. So amazing.

Felt like the whole staff left to get food and left me and my Friend abandoned in the restaurant for 2 hrs waiting and they came back with their leftovers.. If I'm ever forced to come eat here again I will not wear my seatbelt because I want to die before I make it back to this restaurant . This restaurant is sooooo bad vibes makes me want to jump off something tall and land on something sharp. Horrible service I'd give negative stars if I could. PLEASE NEVER COME HERE . PS/ it smelled like meth.

I read the reviews before I went in and still chanced it. The food was mediocre. Service is trash, they have a 18% gratuity fee included. Not once was my water refilled, and my rice was microwaved. Definitely don't recommend.

Service is excellent. Food superb! I can not wait to go back. The vibes were terrific and calm. Music so cool. It's a slice of Jamaican culture in DTLA. I highly recommend this spot. It is fabulous. And the food nice and spicy. The only negative is that I wanted more. Portions could be a bit larger on the veggies and main dishes.

Arrival Sunday: upon entering the establishment the hostess asked if we had a reservation. The spot had a few tables occupied inside and two outside so seating wasn't an issue. I requested to sit outside. The music was loud but not too loud that I couldn't hear my partner speak. Great jams played by the DJ Order: We were given food menus but no drink menus. I asked for a drink menu and some water. Got drink menu no water. Server/hostess came back to take food order. I ordered curry chicken plate with a side of jerk sauce. Partner ordered oxtails. Waiter told partner no more oxtails so partner wanted nothing and told waiter we would just share. I ordered sangria & partner ordered rum punch! Sangria was so so. Packed with fruit and not strong at all. Rum punch was tasty and strong. Service: terrible. Someone who I assumed to be the manager or owner gave my food to the wrong table (they ordered the same) His food arrived before his dates meal. my food finally arrived an hour later with no apologies. Guess what?! It was the jerk chicken plate instead of curry. After I let the owner/ manager know it was incorrect she proceeded to give that jerk plate to the displeased table behind us who I assumed received the wrong order as well. I waited another 20 minuets before I received my actual order. Taste: curry chicken was oversalted however the flavor was good. Rice and peas cold and dry. Cabbage DRY. Jerk sauce was unidentifiable. I have no idea what they were trying to achieve with the flavor however there were no jerk notes present. It saddens me to be so critical of this place however I am doing this in hopes the resteraunt reads it and takes major action to change how they are running their business. I am not sure how long they've been in business but it may be worth researching before you visit and if it is super new, wait a few months longer before going. It was so sad to see another table displeased with their experience as well.

DISCLAIMER: I grew up in South Florida where decent Jamaican food can literally be found in gas stations and quick marts. With that said, I will say I am picky when it comes to Jamaican food. During this rona era, I've been discovering new foods through delivery in my area. So my usual little blurb about parking and the restaurant itself will have to be put on hold. I ordered the curry chicken bowl and beef patties. The curry chicken is pretty good, I give that a solid 3.5 stars. I enjoy curries made with coconut and the combination of this dish was really good. I'm not sure if I think it's $13 worth, but for a city that lacks in this cuisine, it gets the job done for my cravings. ...but the beef patty was lacking. The flavors were unique (which also meant it didn't remind me of home) and the meat was lacking. It was so thin. The crust had a good texture and flakiness, but it was also burnt a bit too much on one side that it took away from the overall flavor. There is a food truck somewhere in DTLA I've been to that has BOMB patties, so compared to that, this is like 1.5 stars. I'm happy there's Jamaican cuisine in the area, but I just wish the patties (I love to eat foods that bring back memories) were better, especially since I ordered that a lot back home.

I likely will not be back. My date and I visited this place, we were literally the ONLY people dining in. The food was good but they charged $30 for margarita?? And added a 20% gratuity. On the ticket it said Casamigos, even though they gave us lower shelf tequila (they didn't have casamigos blanco). They only agreed to take 10% off the drinks. $27 for watered down margaritas is insane. My combo plate cost less than that. No wonder the place was completely empty. I don't see this location thriving with this model. Esp with them sneakily overcharging for liquor they didn't even have available and adding their own 20% tip.

The servings are so, so very filling and every single thing I ordered was absolutely worth it! I highly recommend ordering take-out and picking it up; this is what ordered: - Curry chicken & oxtail plate: $25 - Jerk chicken bowl: $13 - Jerk chicken Mac and cheese: $10 - Coco bread (2 orders; 1 lathe Coco bread per order): $3 each I got chunky pieces of chicken and oxtail in every order - all very juicy, tender, and perfectly cooked -, and the sautéed cabbage was a perfect added balance to all the meat. The rice and red kidney beans were perfectly seasoned. And the Mac and cheese was perfectly creamy and scrumptious. The jerk chicken had a little bit of thick sauce on top of it with an amazing kick that I absolutely loved!

Came looking for the old pizza/bar place and found this cool spot. The staff were really friendly and the food we ordered was very tasty. The cocktails were okay. We ordered the jerk chicken wings and plantains. The wings were spicy but delicious. The plantains were perfect, not too greasy. The cocktails ordered were an old fashioned and a pineapple mule. They were skimpy with the alcohol with both drinks, which made them extremely overpriced. Other than that, really enjoyed the atmosphere, service and food.

The actual restaurant might be a bit better. The location on spring street has the same menu and prices but a smaller portion, along with a stank attitude. My rice and beans were undercooked and hard, a scoop of cabbage and cut up jerk chicken. I really was not aware lol. I will recommend,"AKEE BAMBOO" located in Leimert Park 5/5 Jamaican Cuisine

So, going through Dtla on Saturday night. All of the restaurants were closing earlier then they said, even though I called right before going. Which worked out in my favor. I was walking to the car for the 3 rd stop of restaurants that closed earlier then they were supposed to when I found a beautiful life, and decided to stop in. The servers were so sweet and friendly. There was plenty of outside seating. The inside and outside were super cute and had a fun vibe. There were people there, but it wasn't crowded. All the covid rules seemed in place. We had the oxtail plate and jerk chicken wings. I've never had oxtail before, it was so good!!!! The flavor was just amazing. I'm glad the server recommended it. The wings were equally as tasty.finding this place was a pleasant surprise.I will definitely recommend,and return.

If you're not African American, they'll tell you to get out. I saw someone spit in my food before they served it.

I decided to check this place out for a late lunch with a friend. We didn't have reservations but luckily there were available tables in their front patio. You order and seat yourself, and your order is brought out to you. We got the mixed berry lemonade, jerk chicken mac & cheese, and rasta pasta. The lemonade wasn't too sweet and very refreshing. The jerk chicken was very tender and had lots of flavor, it has a kick but wasn't too spicy. The mac & cheese was pretty good and the ravioli was decent. The food was a bit too salty for my taste, but overall it was pretty good! One thing to note is that you're sitting outdoors in the patio on the sidewalk and the area is near skid row so there are a lot of people asking for change. We got asked for change 3 times but nobody was aggressive or anything. To sum up, the service was quick and friendly and the food was yummy. I would definitely stop by again and try some of their other menu items!

This place is amazing. The setting, ambiance, location, staff, drinks, and of course the food. I've tried DoorDash a few times with this restaurant but decided to go on a Saturday afternoon. I opted to reserve a seat before going there because I've driven past a few times and they were always packed. Anywho... new menu alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My fiancé and I tried about 5 different dishes and it kept getting better and better! We had tons of drinks as well and were extremely impressed. If you want a good setting , great music and amazing food head over! The staff were great as well. No complaints.

I'm I'm going to start off with this: I'm Jamaican. Family is from Jamaica and I was raised eating Caribbean food. This place is Caribbean food catered to an American palate. We don't put jerk sauce on everything. The rum punch barely tasted like it had rum in it and was mixed with Hawaiian Punch. The server messed up my order. Would love authentic dishes that celebrates our heritage. Not an attempt to Americanize the food.

Update: I initially gave this restaurant 2 stars but Im gonna update it to 3 off the strength of the beef patty. The beef patty is REALLY GOOD! Initially i thought the other patty I had was the beef patty, but it was the chicken patty. It confused me because the meat in the chicken patty was ground meat...im used to jamaican chicken patties having actual shredded chicken breast meat in it, not ground meat. Wasnt really feeling the meat filling in the chicken patty but the BEEF PATTY meat is LEGIT! I would definitely go to this place just for the beef patties ------------------------------------------------- I really wanted to like it. I love Jamaican food but sadly they missed the mark. I got the Oxtails bowl. The oxtails were too salty, fatty and kinda tough! Oxtails should be way more tender than that! And the rice & peas has too much of some spice in it that throws it off. Also the plantains were kinda dry. The best thing in the dish was the cabbage. Cabbage shouldnt be better than the meat LOL My mom didnt like the food at all. I tolerated it. I guess I ate it cuz it was so expensive. But honestly, it wasnt good. I grew up in Brooklyn New York around a lot of great jamaican restaurants so I know how it should be and this wasnt it. I also tried the beef patty. The crust was great, didnt love the meat filling. Something about the seasoning that I wasnt feeling. (I notice everyone from New York gave this restaurant low ratings...because we know how Jamaican food is supposed to taste and THIS AINT IT!!) I will stick with Ackee Bamboo in Leimert park. Their food is WAY BETTER!!! Not sure if I want to try them again. I was thinking about trying the jerk chicken, but I see that someone else said it was too salty. I cant stand when food is too salty. I guess I would try it again if I was in the neighborhood and hungry. I'd rather support them to keep em open for people who do like it. But I wouldn't make a special trip. They provided pleasant service tho, and had covid safety in place. (Thats why they got two stars instead of one) Maybe they should google authentic jamaican recipes and try again. We don't have enough Jamaican restaurants in LA, so if you're gonna open one, at least make it good!

I ordered delivery, and got an Oxtail Bowl. This was actually my first time trying Jamaican food and I thought it was very delicious! The flavors were very tasty and the oxtail was nice and tender. It came with a base of red beans and rice, cabbage and bell pepper, and fried plantains. It was not as much food as I expected, but nonetheless I would definitely order from here again for I would like to try the Beef Patty. Definitely recommend!

I have ordered takeout here a couple times now. Definitely one of my favorite Jamaican places in downtown. The food is amazing and priced reasonably. Packaging is always great and the food is always hot and fresh. My favorite dish is the oxtail bowl. The plate is good too but the portions here are more than enough for me. All of the patties are great too. If you're looking for Jamaican food in downtown, abeautifullife can't be beat.

My family and I ordered from here, trying different restaurant from my area. I recently moved from Brooklyn, New York,so I was excited to find a Jamaican restaurant. I ordered jerk shrimp bowl, pattie trio and jerk chicken and oxtail platter and coco bread. I received the wrong order. I received jerk salmon bowl and our Pattie's were BURNT! Super dry and not flavorful at all, couldn't get past the charred taste.

First I have to say that their food is delicious here. Everything we ordered was flavorful. However, the jerk chicken was slightly on the dry side. Also the combination plates we ordered were $30 each which was very expensive! What we ordered: - oxtail and jerk chicken combination plate $30 - oxtail and shrimp combination plate $30 - stew chicken bowl $13 - beef patties $4 each It's definitely a hole in the wall joint. Right around the corner, a couple blocks down is Grand Central Market.

So it was first time going here on Friday night , I went with a couple of my friends . As soon as we walked in , we felt the vibe . The whole ambiance and setup was so beautiful!! The staff was amazing , especially the manager . The food was out of this world. Every single thing we had was a food orgasm . We absolutely loved it here and rate this place 10/10

This is a review of their food truck. Literally waited about 90 minutes to order and get our food at the KCRW fest at the California African American Museum. Worth the wait. Service was good, nothing noteworthy, but my Jerk Chicken Bowl had lots of chicken (dark meat, which I prefer), spicy plaintains (woo hoo! loved the extra kick), beans & rice and chopped cabbage. The bowl was oily but the spices and seasonings were on point. My tongue started to tingle towards the end. Good deal for $13. The Oxtail Stew was actually a bowl. Not as spicy, but my friend liked it. Think it had the same sides as the Jerk Chicken Bowl. She too, liked the spiced plaintains. They also had Jerk Chicken Tacos, 3 for $13 and a Curry Chicken Bowl and Chicken Wings with Waffle. Veggie option as well. I am now following them on Instagram. Hope they come to the Westside but I am willing to check out their DT cafe and bakery. Do they really make a Chicken and Waffle cupcake?? Only one way to find out. ;o)

Only ordered 2 veggie patties. One was completely burned and was in eatable. Ended up in the trash. The other was alright. Ok flavor, wasn't dry. Nice spice. The veggie patties are always the cheapest thing on the menu. There items are pretty standard for the Jamaican food in the area however I feel like the other spot is overpriced as well. For me before I go all in on a platter I like to try the veggie patties as an intro. Instead of spending $15 on a plate and be disappointed I try the patties 1st. If this experience was any indication of what the plates are like I most likely won't be returning.

I ordered the Chicken Curry bowl and a Jamaican Patty (Meat Pie). The bowl had chicken curry and cabbage atop rice & beans with a few fried plantain pieces, it was delicious, and I was satisfied....but, I had to try a meat pie as well. The meat pie was equally as good...very flakey...make sure you have something to drink with it. I will recommend and return. Note: This was my first MealPal experience, and I hope my remaining 11 meals are as good as this one. If you are scratching your head about MealPal...google it. The meal was not ready for pick-up, I had to wait about 15 minutes.

This place is such a vibe, great food/drinking and hookah..good customer service Jerk Mac, will come again

worker recommended the jerk chicken so i ordered the jerk chicken mac n cheese. comes in a hand-size bowl. cost over 17 bucks without tip. mac n cheese was underwhelming. no cheese taste, mushy, and bland. the jerk chicken was disappointing. it didn't taste like chicken. i don't know how it can taste salty and bland at the same time. the jerk chicken tasted strange and i didn't want to get sick so i threw it away. waste of food... service was okay. looks like u can only order for to-go. place is very small. hopefully it isn't like this everyday..

The curry bowl with chicken, rice and plantains is so bomb. Spicy, sweet, filling - just the perfect comfort food. My mouth is literally watering just thinking about how yummy it is.. I used to live around the corner and would get lunch here constantly but now I have to drive an hour (or longer with bad traffic) and I do because it's that yummy. Plus everyone is so sweet and down to earth that works here.

I picked up a quick lunch from here recently and then went back for dinner with my household the following week. Lunch: * beef patty & fried plantains The beef patty was delicious! The pastry was flaky and well seasoned and not greasy. The filling was super flavorful and quite spicy. the plantains were a bit plain to my taste. They weren't sweet at all and could have used a touch of salt. But the starchiness was helpful to cut the spice of the patty. Dinner: * curry chicken plate * veggie patty Same delicious flaky crust for the patty. The spinach and corn in the filling was also well seasoned but not nearly as spicy as the beef (which I appreciated). The curry chicken was great. The rice and peas were well seasoned and perfectly cooked, and the cabbage (which I don't always like) was sweet and still had a nice bite to it. Sometimes people cook it until it's just soggy and lifeless. Not here. And the plantains this time were sweet and perfectly cooked. My partner got the jerk chicken and oxtail. Both were delicious. I'm excited this place is so close! They also recently opened a second location a few blocks away on San Pedro St with indoor and outdoor seating. I'm excited to go once things open up again but I might have to order takeout in the meantime to try their jerk chicken and waffles for brunch!

In store vs to go portions are wildly different They certainly rip you off on to go. They rip you off in person. Such a shame - more like a beautiful lie. Doesn't seem like the owner cares. I'm at heated all over again thinking about all my experiences here - the restaurant and the satellite location.

The restaurant is okay. It has a good ambiance and good music, but the music was too loud we couldn't hear the waiter. We were sat fast but the food took an hour to come out. Its pretty pricey to not have big enough portions and the taste was just okay. Our server only came over once after we ordered within that hour we waited.The customer service wasn't great. I love black owned but they need a little help.

A bit salty but the food was pretty good. Ordered the Jerk Chicken Bowl for takeout. The chicken was cooked really well and tasted really good. I could have done with a little less salt, but I was still pretty happy with my meal. Also got to try a bite of my friend's Veggie Patty which was really good. Glad I got to check this place out.

Got takeout from the window. The jerk mac is nearly 20 bucks and is basically velveta mac with gravy jerk chicken on top. Not baked mac. Pass. Couldn't finish it. Flavor wasn't there. Not worth the calories. Staff was nice.
