Abingdon Square Greenmarket

Abingdon Square Greenmarket in Abingdon Square park by 12th street and 8th ave and Hudson St is an excellent farmer's market organized by GrowNYC on Saturdays around the year from 8am to 2pm. The farms and other vendors provide local NJ and NY fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, dairy, breads and more. Top chefs in NY including Jean Georges restaurants often buy form Norwich Meadows. You do need to hand pick, from each farm, since some produce is not as fresh as others. Muddy Farm and certified organic Norwich Meadows Farm have very fresh special varieties of fruits and vegetables and use organic methods and frequently no-spray, unlike the organic scheduled spraying found in commercial organic foods found in day to week old produce in grocery stores. Prospect Hill Orchards has organic NY State apples and many no-spray wild berries and other very fresh fruits and fresh baked goods. PE&DD has local, wild seafood from the ocean off of Long Island, fresher and more sustainable than you can find in stores. with more seasonal local varieties. Bread Alone has sourdough breads and baked goods from the Hudson Valley.

Good coverage of produce from NY and NJ... However ... As others mentioned before, most are very overpriced...and select carefully for what you get... I was in rush and grabbed mint from Norwich Meadows and it was horrible... It looked like mint but it had zero smell... No intoxicating smell of fresh mint... Could not use it at all, not eleven on the day of purchase... They should not have sold this product... So watch out for what you get and select very carefully... In other farmer's markets there are better options, if you can, go to them... Explore...

Report illegal 2.5 percent credit card fee!!! Dispute with your card company. Rude cashier. Waited 15 minutes for anyone to help at deli counter. Always rude!!! They grab your money just like Chinatown. No respect for neighborhood. Avoid this marked up in times!!!! Place. Prices are unheard of. OUTRAGEOUS.

All of the vendors are helpful and generally want the best for it. Be ware this is a stomping ground for the lululemon white wealthy middle aged women who reside in the west village which results in the organic food being much more expensive than it could be- but it is locally sourced which is a plus I just wish the prices were more friendly toward not the 1%. But products and quality of food is top par.

I love this small farmers market ! I come here almost every Saturday to get fresh apples, strawberries, breads, or anything else that looks good ! It's only a block away from my apartment so I love walking over first thing when I wake up ! The area doesn't have the best grocery stores within comfortable walking distance (i try to avoid those near union square) so this market is my favorite neighborhood find !! It is a bit small, and when you pass the location on days other than Saturday (the only day of the market) you would never have thought it could fit !

A comparatively small 'greenmarket' (I still say farmers market) for NYC, this little West Village outpost has a little something for everyone. On the Saturday that I rolled by after the gym, I immediately zoned in on the fresh produce that lined the narrow pathways surrounding the small park. There was a pretty good selection of fresh produce, breads and juices for me to choose from, as well as seafood/meat for everyone else. I like the laid back nature of the vendors I interacted with and found the prices to be quite fair. I will definitely be back next Saturday!

There aren't as many stands here as there are at the Union Square Greenmarket, but for a little farmer's market, Abingdon Square has a wonderful selection. You'll always know what's in season, because there will be PILES of it. And you don't have to deal with the crowds and prices that have spun out of control in the aforementioned spot. I highly recommend heading out this way for your weekend grocery shopping trip. Throughout July and August, I was getting excellent NJ cherries and blueberries here, and my bf was going crazy over the heirloom tomatoes and squash.

Weak farmers market. Only had around 10-15 stands and was far from thorough. Will keep looking for a more local, artisan marker than the main Union Square one, which is pretty great.

This quaint little market in the West Village is a great find! The range of items you can find here from fresh fruit to snacks, flowers, and homemade granola are plenty! Prices are reasonable and those who work here help you feel at home.

Pretty small market but there is plenty of affordable fresh produce and really nice and laidback vendors. I also love being able to drop off composting here. Definitely worth checking out on saturdays if you want to pick something up and don't want to have to go to d'agostino's (which is way more expensive and not as fresh)!

This market makes me so happy. I used to get a bi-weekly produce delivery in California and I love, love, love that on Saturday mornings I can re-connect with my locavore self and find fresh, seasonal food here. And it's year-round - even though it makes me a little sad that nothing grows in the cold, I also love that the food on sale is apple cider and meat throughout the winter months. In particular, I like the stand on the east side that sells herbs and kale and other leafy greens, and I love the Red Jacket cider. Also the turkey sausage is to die for!

Absolutely love this place. It's small, but has everything you need including a great organic produce vendor.

Perfect little variety of vendors -- and good ones, too. Also? The guy working the P.E. and D.D. Seafood stand has a very dreamy smile.

If you're there, and order from the deli, be careful. They give you the old stuff, not what's showing in the window. And if you ask them to deliver a deli item, they will use their oldest, stale, or "passed expiration"
