"Open for: Lunch and dinner Price range: $$ This Richmond Hill icon has been owned and operated by Vince Mazzotta for more than 40 years. The old-school, no-frills pizza joint is legendary for massive portions and best sellers, such as naked wings and kitchen-sink salads. But what you really want here is the panzerotti: a golden, greasy beast with a bubbly crust that’s the stuff of deep-fried dreams. It weighs nearly two pounds because it’s rammed with gooey mozzarella and salty, piquant pepperoni slices. While you can choose to add more ingredients, simple is best. Know before you go: The dining room is closed but there’s still pickup and delivery. And yes, it’s a pizza joint but don’t overlook their chicken wings (honey garlic is a solid pick)." - Tiffany Leigh

My husband usually buys panzeroti from there and they are okay. Today I decided to order chicken wings for the family and it was a disappointment, the chicken is super dry and old, we ate some but we can’t even finish it. I’m surprise how they send those wings to a client, because they knew it was cooked a long time ago. I called to give a feedback and the manager could not even answer the phone, asked me to send an email, like I was calling to get a discount. A message to the manager: we can only search for discount when we have the intention to buy there again. I was looking for some respect since the person who packed my food had none. Anyways, the way you see the wings in the picture is the amount of wings I’m throwing to the garbage.

Have been visiting for years, the quality is not always good and the situation getting worse. Also, the price, my understanding for a half-half pizza is it charges base on the side has higher price, but here they added up both sides (toppings). It ends up costing $34.75 (not including tax) for a half vegetable and half pepperoni large size pizza. Considering the quality and service, I am not sure I would still going.

Google
Really good pizza. They have slices that come out pretty quickly. There is a bench, but not much seating available. Friendly service.

If you haven’t discovered Abruzzo Pizzeria yet, you're missing out on one of the best hidden gems around. I've been a consistent customer for over two years, and it never disappoints. The pizza is consistently delicious, but the real star of the menu is their deep-fried panzarotti paired with their rich meat sauce for dipping—an absolute game changer. The panzarotti are generously sized, and you can choose between baked or fried (I highly recommend the fried version for that perfect crispy exterior). Don’t forget to ask for extra sauce—you'll thank me later! The staff here are always friendly, and the atmosphere is welcoming, making it a fantastic spot for takeout. Whether you're grabbing dinner to go or just craving a quick bite, Abruzzo Pizzeria is always a win!

Loyal customer for over 20 years. Emailed owner who offered $10 for the inconvenience without acknowledging the issue food was inedible. Dough was breaking apart. Expected a full refund. Would have sent it back if were eating in. Complete disappointment with quality and customer service. Try Ricci’s, you will not be disappointed.

Google
I've been coming here for over 20 years, and I ordered a fried panzo, and there is more dough than veggies inside. So much dough. Not a lot of sauce inside or anything. I feel like I paid for dough $$$$too much for dough.. The flavor isn't there anymore. Very disappointed

Google
I first tried this pizza as a little kid in the late 80s when my aunt lived in Richmond Hill. I havnt tried it in over 20 years until today. I took a 50 min drive to come to Abruzzo Pizza. This place was just as I remember. Pizza 🍕 is delicious, tasty, cooked right, tomato sauce is incredible, full of flavour! I got a party pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms and bacon and it brought back memories of my childhood! I highly recommend this place if someone wants to try authentic, great quality, homemade pizza! 😋

Google
I order a vegetarian party size pizza for pick up. When we open the pizza at the office we notice that it was not a vegetarian pizza. I called in and asked them that I could take a raincheck but they said no you could come back here and bring back the pizza and we will give you another one. I said for me to come back and get another pizza and go back to the office it will take me at lease ninety minutes and it is not worth it anymore. Long story short only two people had the pizza and the rest went home. Make sure when you buy a pizza from this place to open your box and check your food.

Yelp
Last night we went to store, and it was the best pizza in the Richmond Hill. The owner and staff were extremely warm and welcoming. Everyone had a heart of kindness, always ready to help with sincerity and genuine friendliness. Highly recommended! Vivian and Richard family.

Joanne D.

Yelp
Overall good panzorotti. Huge, priced at $11, very cheesy! Recommend getting sauce on the side

James K.

Yelp
Best Panz in the city. I typically get it fried vs. baked, a just pepperoni, with a side of meat sauce, which is also outstanding. I get the large meatsauce for dipping and use the leftover sauce on a small portion of homemade pasta later at home as a late-night snack. Trust me, you eat one of these monster panzerotti for a late lunch, and dinner will be skipped or just a light snack. The fried pan is ridiculously good, loaded with cheese, pepperoni, and light tomato sauce, in a huge, delicious fried dough shell. Trust me, get one if you're ever in the area, and you'll thank me later.

Alok B.

Yelp
Got a cheese and a veggie pizza for a late night snack. Liked the pizza sauce and the crust. My sons who almost never each the crust polished it all off. The pizza was well baked and evenly cooked through. Good amount of cheese but enough to make it oily or too heavy. Worth a repeat visit when I am in the area.

Andrei A.

Yelp
The people who work there are all amazing and I have nothing negative to say about any of them. All the staff are courteous and friendly. However, the quality of their pizza disappointed me. Primarily, it's the dough that was of low quality and very stiff as opposed to the soft and chewy dough at Pizzeria Badiali, The Good Son, Annette Food Market, or Gusto 101. Thinly sliced mushrooms were uncooked. Tomato paste seemed to be of the cheapest quality possible. Overall, a negative experience I'm sorry, Abruzzo, but I won't be ordering again from you.

Rocco G.

Yelp
I ordered penne a la vodka el dente. And it came overdone! I ordered a party size pizza and they put the pasta on top of the box so when it was delivered the cheese and toppings were stuck on the cardboard box! I spent over $130 for this. The worst thing is their customer service! I spoke to Daniel one of the owners sons. His answer to me was "I'm sorry and maybe we're going to have to cut the radius to where we deliver"! I replied that's what your response is?! Poor customer service!! I'm going to think twice before I order from them again!!!

Max T.

Yelp
This place is amazing but needs to be on skip the dishes! Or increase the radius! Absolute Hidden Gem

Yelp
Abruzzo has been our go-to pizza place since it opened -- a great family-run business. At the time, we lived in the neighbourhood, so very convenient for pick-up and/or delivery. We now live about 15-20 minutes away, but it's still our go-to pizza. Lasagna and salads are also very good and big enough to share.

Chris C.

Yelp
Great Pizza! Solid service. Beats all chain pizza restaurants. Can't go wrong with any za!

Rossi C.

Yelp
Yum. Yum. Yum!!! Beat pizza in the hood! A must try! Delivery. Service always perfect.

Yelp
I decided to try Abruzzo Pizza again after a previous bad experience , (and), I was in the area. Boy, Am I glad I did!!!! The picture I posted does not do Abruzzo justice. (Plus it's missing a slice in my tummy, lol) This special pizza as Abruzzo calls it was exquisite, the flavour profile from the sauce to the crust to the very fresh flavourful toppings was beyond satisfaction!! I was very impressed with the total experience of this pizza. This is why I am changing my previous reviews to now an ecstatic 5 stars. I will definitely be back again to Abruzzo pizzeria again in the near future.

Jon R.

Yelp
I'm not the best at taking pictures of food before eating some of it - This is delicious pizza, i always get tinge pepperoni. I would say it's not consistent, but when it's good ITS GOOD. Great undercarriage and plenty of toppings. For the price - worth, but I wouldn't say everytime. Great stuff regardless. I recommend getting garlic flakes. 8.1

Sandra M.

Yelp
Delicious food. The next best food to homemade. The tomato sauce is amazing. Food is always fresh and tasty.

Mary M.

Yelp
Ambiance: not much, but this is a must visit when in the area. Customers are walking in & out constantly, this is a busy place Pizza: Cheese - thin crust , floppy pizza. It is best advised to be eaten fresh when its hot. The crust is not too doughy (thin). The sauce is very prominent Service: friendly staff

Alex K.

Yelp
Visited here about a month ago for take out. Got a deep fried panzerotti, turned out a floppy soggy mess. Deep fried means it should be crispy. Felt like I was eating oiled bread. Clearly the oil was not hot enough and they looked at it and still approved for it to be served. Highly disappointed.

Robert Z.

Yelp
We ordered delivery from Abruzzo on a Saturday as Pizza Pizza's call line was taking forever and the controversy over the minimum wage for Dominos delivery drivers. Perhaps this wasn't a great night, but for $42.00 we would expect a bit more from a beloved pizza establishment. A bit on the oily side, the cheese was bland, the toppings sparse, and the crust somewhat overcooked. However, although comparatively overpriced to other local establishments, one would expect more love for their product. Dont get me wrong, Abruzzo is a fixture in the community, often supplying the public schools for Pizza days (not sure they still do), but on this particular experience for the price was a bit of a disappointment. In the future, I would likely want to try their other fare like pasta, salads and garlic bread. I think there are also coupons that should be researched so to get a bit of a discount. -Zuk

Yelp
Came to his restaurant because people have raved bout how this could possibly be the best place to have pizza in Richmond Hill. So having partially moved to Richmond Hill, I figured I should try this pizza and perhaps again find "Pizza justice". Was it amazing? No. Was it average? I would have to say, yes. I think there might be a bit of overhyping...I came on a Saturday night and had ordered by phone. There wasn't a huge line and that would make sense considering the new changes in place. They did make some distinct lines on the sidewalk for proper social distancing which I truly did appreciate. I honestly cannot say that I was impressed. I have had multiple pizzas in better locations like Slice of Fire on Markham Main Street and Fresco pizza downtown by Kensington Market. Both places serve very different slices but I would say at the same price point as Abruzzo. The dough was a medium kind of thickness and I found it a bit rubbery. Contents on the pizza had a "stuck on" kind of a feel. The cheese wasn't really pull apart but more dormant. Overall, I just was not feeling like this could be the best pizza in Richmond Hill. It looks like perhaps the Panzerotto could be a better bet...but I don't think I will be returning. All it sometimes take is one shot especially when I am paying a premium for the cost of pizza. I would rather pay an extra few dollars for Slice of Fire!

Yelp
Nothing but classic Italian food in Thornhill I have been ordering here for over 30 years. They never disappoint on any meal. Pizza is pure bliss Pasta is huge and I love the sauce Salads are excellent and fresh Italian sandwiches are amazing and messy Priced right for family food. Highly recommend

Adrian C.

Yelp
Unfortunately, Abruzzo Pizza did not live up to the hype. I really wanted to love this pizza place but it wasn't very good. We had the Abruzzo special which sounded good but when we picked it up the pizza was cold (warm at best). For such a high price I expected the pizza to be hot and fresh. They told us to come pick it up in 30-40 minutes but it was clearly cooked well in advanced. Overall the price is too expensive and the pizza was too cold. This place could be a 5 star if they made hotter pizza at a reasonable price.

Lynn E.

Yelp
Their panzerottis are the best I've had. Whatever cheese they use, it's good quality gooey deliciousness. I always ask for fried but they have baked option. I love the eggplant parm, the tomato sauce used for it is a perfect smooth rich sauce with a nice tang. On my next visit I plan to get their pasta - also amazing.

Lorraine R.

Yelp
Great service , friendly , best food always and clean highly recommend, delicious pizza

D C.

Yelp
The best panzerottis around! Crispy outer crust and oozing with yummy toppings inside. Portions are large and great for leftovers. Recommended by a co worker who would stop on her way home from Mississauga to pick up panzos. Hubby likes the pasta as well, garlic bread/desserts are ok nothing special. We mainly do delivery/takeout, usually once a month because its so good. Don't forget to finish your meal with a peanut pie!

Bryan D.

Yelp
These people can't deliver a a warm pizza never mind hot. This is the 3rd time the pizza might as well be left for my dog to eat. Cold as our kitchen floor and stuck to the box. Classic l Almost 1 hour to get a small pizza delivered 6K's away. No more. We are done.

D D.

Yelp
Pizzas are good but why do most people saying it's sooo good? Dominos or pizza pizza is much better and even little Caesar's too

Kelvin Y.

Yelp
If Nonna dined at Abruzzo I think she's going to brandish the wooden spoon immediately as a threat to the entire staff and that includes the kitchen staff and the serving staff. Someone deserves a spanking here. I think most people who lived in Richmond Hill long enough will understand that Abruzzo had been a staple in the community for years. In years pass I've enjoyed their takeout pizza on several occasions. But things seemed to have gone a bit down hill ever since they opened their slightly nicer dining area to the left of their original spot. And don't let the fancy brick exterior of the "nicer" side deceive you, I won't recommend it as a place for a date. The service was also very slow with the servers constantly socializing with each other. We've had to flag them down often to get different things. The pizza was mostly still solid but probably inferior to what they offered in the past but it's hard to compensate for their pitiful pasta offerings. All their pastas felt like the supermarket dried variety. Their lasagna was no better than what I can make at home myself. The lasagna was not al dente and the tomato sauce was not fresh nor hearty; very disappointing. The other pasta we got, a carbonara was totally embarrassing. The supposed carbonara sauce still had chunks of egg yolk that was not broken up. They also didn't put enough cream into the sauce so the pasta was extremely dry. The bacon was also not fried enough to have the flavour transfer to the pasta. I can't foresee myself dining at Abruzzo anytime soon. And if you are taking out, stick to pizza.

Yelp
Football Sundays and pizzas come hand in hand. Even while on vacation I still wanted to enjoy my football Sundays. I am told that Abruzzo has the best pizza in the area. Basic Pizza consists of sauce and cheese: - 11' Small: $9.50 CAD + $1.30/topping - 13' Medium: $13.50 CAD + $1.75/topping - 15' Large: $15.75 CAD + $2/topping - 15' x 21' Party Size: $21 CAD + $2.75/topping I think we got the most epic pizza for my first game day in Canada. My friend ordered a medium thin whole wheat pizza with chicken, shrimp, zucchini, mushroom, olives and hot peppers ($30 CAD) and I ordered a Garlic Bread w Cheese ($3.50 CAD). The pizza was delicious. Okay our order was so healthy I want to say it was more like a guilt free flat bread in pizza shape... but nevertheless it was amazing. On the other hand I felt a bit estranged with the garlic bread since it was in a bread roll with not much garlic or cheese.. and it was a bit dry. It was just not what I'm used to... and I actually worked at a pizza place in my teenage years so I might just be particular. So if you are in this area looking for a pizza place, this place is a solid option. Great for game day! Your purchase will come with a menu with coupons for your future visits.

Cynthia Y.

Yelp
Been a customer for over 15 years. My favorite dishes include wings, panzerotto and eggplant parmigiana. My son loves sergios pasta

Lui D.

Yelp
Best pizza in town. For a few generations now. Crust perfectly chewy Sauce authentic homemade Italian. Fresh real ingredients and toppings. Their ponzorotti is fantastic too wether fried or baked.

Yael R.

Yelp
The pizza is good. I don't know what the service is like as well as the environment since I just got take out from there.

Kate S.

Yelp
What a difference, eating inn Vs. Take out! The service is great, the staff is kind and great at taking care of everything and promptly. The pizza is delicious and fresh! The gluten free is the best I've ever had! With our past experience, We were not happy with the quality of take out, with the pizza sticking to the box, being soggy etc... however, eating inn is Day and night, very tasty and good quality, generous amount of topping even the cheese!

Mike I.

Yelp
Ordered a medium veal with, extra sauce, mushrooms and cheese. The sandwich was not spicy at all ....but the veal was tender. Service at takeout was slow. Would not recommend as there are better places to have a veal sandwich.

Joanne G.

Yelp
Loved their pizza! I had one with tomatoes, onions, bacon, sausage, pepperoni, and anchovies! Yummy

Milton J.

Yelp
Probably the best pizza in the Richmond Hill-Markham area. I've known of this pizza place for about 20 years. It is known for its quality and excellence. On a chilly February on Saturday I ordered a pizza with olives, onions, mushrooms and green peppers and panzerotti for delivery. The delivery time was within 1 hour. The timing was right on. The pizza was perfect and panzerotti was great. There was enough for another meal or two. It's a once in while treat and treasure for the hungry in winter or any time of year.

Weria H.

Yelp
Great pizza We ended up eating it in the car which was not easy thanks to the miserable situation we are in. But the pizza's quality made it up for us. Strongly recommended

Yasmin Z.

Yelp
Always a great time at Abruzzo, mainly spent in silence because everyone is so busy eating! This family-run business is in the heart of Richmond Hill and known for the freshness of their pizza and pasta, and my personal choice the Panzerotto. Very friendly staff who pay attention to their service and really give the place an Italian family vibe. I indulged in their fried Panzerotto and added a few extra ingredients as it does come with just cheese and tomato sauce inside, allowing guests to truly customize the meal. I recommend asking for their hot oil for those who enjoy genuine and flavourful spice, as well as their meat sauce. The best part is taking the leftovers from this huge dish to work the next day! Quality authentic Italian food and quality service!

Jordan W.

Yelp
Abruzzo is my family's go-to takeout spot for Italian food. We've been ordering from here for 10+ years and have never been disappointed! Absolutely recommend going here to eat or getting takeout! The chicken parm sandwich and pizza are a must order!

Brenda H.

Yelp
Several years ago, I ordered from Abruzzo's regularly. The pizza was the best around. But, the quality of the pizza has gone downhill. It was very bland. I don't know if it was just an off night or if they changed the sauce to appeal to children who can't handle any spices. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is loud and low-end.

Jason M.

Yelp
I've lived in the neighborhood for 20+ yrs and didn't realize I had never written a review for these guys yet. All I can do is a kissing motion with my fingers to my lips. Great, great pizza here (for delivery or dine-in). I would recommend you dine-in if you want pasta. The calzones. OMG, best calzones in the GTA. Make sure you dine-in and eat these babies as soon as they pop out the oven lol (don't be a rookie and order them for take-out). The two owners are some of the nicest, friendliest people. They've been around forever. Back in the 90's the storefront looked run down. At present, it's still a quaint shop on the side of yonge (and very little parking I might add) but the storefront has been renovated. One improvement I think could be implemented is to put more meat into the pastas. Sometimes I order pasta and there's not enough meat running through it. Other times it's jam packed with meat and awesome. I like the fact that the pasta is glazed well with sauce. I've ordered pasta at other joints and there was like no sauce on the noodles. Anyways, a bit more consistency on the amount of meat would go a long way haha. But nevertheless, this place beats all your run-of-the-mill chains. Pro tip: if you order pizza and you like meat, make sure to have sausage as one of your toppings. It's absolutely delizioso. Really nice flavor and kick at the end of the bite. Mangia Mangia folks!

kevin c.

Yelp
Great pizza slices perfect amount of cheese their party sized pizzas could use a little more perfection can be less saucy than the traditional Pizza, but all in all a great establishment!

Eric C.

Yelp
Funnily what I enjoyed the most about Abruzzo wasn't the pizza but was for their giant panzerottis. If I'm ever in the area again,I would definitely consider getting those over their pizzas! For those of you who don't know what a panzerotti is, it's essentially a pizza pocket, except like three times larger in size. You can get it fried or baked (we got baked, and it was similar to pizza dough). I absolutely recommend getting the tomato sauce as a side for the panzerotti. While there is a sufficient amount of tomato sauce within it, dipping it in the sauce makes it amazing! Their sauce is the perfect amount of sweetness and acidity. The panzerotti was delightfully cheesy. We also had their deluxe pizza is small size and it was thin crusted. There were plenty of toppings and it resembled a more western style of pizza. It wasn't greasy at all. The pricing could have been a bit for fair as $18 for a small is a bit steep

Wilma C.

Yelp
Cozy restaurant with great Italian food, both eat in or take out. I normally get pizza to go, the crust is flavourful, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. They also have great greek salad and if you feel for more cold cuts, the Abruzzo salad is topped with salami and other deli meats. Came on Thanksgiving monday night with a group of 6 and the food didn't disappoint. Ordered a large greek salad, large pizza (12 slices), carbonara and veal parm. The veal parm was a pleasant surprise, very cheesy and the choice of the side pasta had flavourful meat sauce. We shared the dish but can easily finish the whole dish on my own. Didn't have a chance to try their desserts, I will definitely come back to try more of their items. Note: small plaza, limited parking

Ayad F.

Yelp
Every time I look for "nearby restaurants" on Yelp I get Abruzzo at the top. It's an iconic pizza place in Richmond Hill. I usually come here for a pepperoni slice to go. $4. Slices are huge (picture below). Love the crust. Toppings are tasty. Great friendly service. Abruzzo delivers. Both literally and figuratively. Check it out if you are in Richmond Hill.

Caroline G.

Yelp
Best pizza around. I usually order either the Abruzzo salad or Vince's special pasta (yum!). Tons of food with definite leftovers!

Dilys C.

Yelp
We wanted to try some pizza other than the franchise ones. We dined in instead of takeout. Special pizza - crust was not too thick and not too thin. Super cheesy and good amount of toppings. Not really sure if it's that special to be $18 for a small. Fried panzerotto with pepperoni and a side of tomato sauce. Tomato sauce on the side is $1.50. Panzerotto was huge! Loaded with cheese and meat. I enjoyed the sauce on the side but my boyfriend said the panzerotto was yummy enough without the sauce. Service was OK, kind of slow. The dine-in area is on the smaller side. Large windows made the area seems larger. Definitely coming back for their foods but do take-out instead. Prices were different when we dined-in than take out.

Janel G.

Yelp
Our go to pizza place near Yonge and HWY 7! I usually get the all meat variant but whichever you pick won't disappoint. They have great service and great food!

Matthew R.

Yelp
Lovely people inside, great food and amazing pizza. I always love to support smaller businesses. Definitely give it a try.

Roni S.

Yelp
Very good pizza, veal is very t3nder, i just wish they put more poeces in sandwhich, over all very good.

Yelp
3.5 star Come to Abruzzo Pizza for the food... Don't take your date here if so she will be disappointed.. Abruzzo is located at a strip mall... surrounded by mattress and furniture stores. Since it is in Richmond Hill, at least I don't have this seedy feel. 2 areas of the restaurant, one is for pick up and the other area for sit down lunch/dinner. The sit in area is more basic remind me of a cafeteria set up... On a Friday afternoon... for late lunch, this place was quite busy.. There are at least 3 cars with the Abruzzo Pizza signs on their roofs going in and out of the parking lot doing delivery! Vince Special Pasta Fusilier ($12.50) - includes Italian Sausage, Mushrooms, Zucchini, Fresh Hot Peppers, Garlic and Light Tomato Sauce - Filling and hearty - the Italian Sausage is really lean remains me of Chinese preserved sausage... and it is not salty to my surprise Abruzzo Special Pizza Small ($13.50) - Consists of Tomato Sauce, Cheese, Pepperoni, Mushrooms, Green Peppers, Bacon & Onions - The crust is thin but not dried... still have this oh so good I am eating carb feel - The ingredients are generous and yes and filling! I cannot say Abruzzo Pizza is authentic Italian pizza... but is a good option compare to other chain pizza joint! Services here is efficient and friendly... a good family vibe! I do have a feeling I am eating at one of the pizzeria down at Little Italy instead all the way up at the Burbs!! Open for lunch only from Tue - Fri. They accepts all credit cards!

Tooba S.

Yelp
Abruzzo's Lasagna never disappoints. It's the best lasagna I've ever had and the portion is huge.
