London’s Best East African Restaurants: Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Somali | Eater London

"The name Abyssinia was that of the ancient Ethiopian empire that preceded today’s nation state. Fitting then that it should be the name of London’s self-proclaimed first and oldest Ethiopian restaurant in London. In addition to the regular regional fare of meats and vegetable combos beside injera, expect golden roasted red meat tibs and tilapia fish. As the night drifts on, a cup of tej — Abyssinian honey wine — to is highly recommended." - Riaz Phillips

Fantastic evening celebrating my birthday with family. Our party had a range of food: vegan and meat dishes - all enjoyed, drinks including fresh mango juice and followed by the best ever coffee. The meal was absolutely delicious. The service was perfect, the restaurant vibe is really lovely and spotlessly clean. No rushing us & great value. we thank you for a lovely evening.

A lovely atmosphere, fantastic food and very hospitable. Good value for a quality meal! I highly recommend it! Don't miss the opportunity to see how they roast and make coffee in the traditional way and the home made honey wine is amazing. Will definitely be returning. Thank you for a lovely evening!

I'm not a resident of swansea but happened upon this wonderful restaurant. As a vegan I struggle to find tasty, healthy and delicious food but they certainly have it here. Great service and really friendly staff. Can't wait to come back. Thank you for a incredible meal and Ethiopian experience.

We ate here on Saturday early evening - there were other customers at the restaurant which considering it was early was great. We had the meal for 2 as we’d not eaten here before and enjoyed it thoroughly. Food was excellent + we accompanied it with a pot of home made tea for 2. Service was great + chatted with chef and people were friendly - we even brought some food home - all in all very reasonable, great food and ambiance - will be back!!

Abyssinia Restaurant was an absolute delight! The atmosphere was superb – from the beautiful, authentic décor to the warm and welcoming service, it truly felt like a complete cultural experience. We ordered a big platter with injera, chicken, beef, lamb, and vegetarian options all served together, and wow – the food was incredibly delicious! Honestly, it was just the two of us, and we couldn’t even finish it. Everything was so flavorful that we found ourselves eating quickly and getting full in no time. The service was amazing too – our server had such a kind smile the whole time, which made the experience even better. For drinks, my partner had a fresh mango juice, and I went for the avocado with milk – both were delightful and refreshing. For the price, quality, and experience, this place is a true gem. Definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic Ethiopian dining experience. Superb all around!

Lovely restaurant with large portions and so much choice from vegan, to heavy meat, to sweet. I'm in love with their collard greens and the coffee ceremony was lovely. Staff were very patient with our nephew and were happy to help me pick out my second ever meal with Injera bread. Much love and appreciation for everyone.

Absolutely amazing food, full of flavour and brilliant value for money! My first time trying this cuisine and the bar has been set very high! 😊 Would recommend the Mahberawi to share as you get to sample multiple dishes.
