"Stews, curries, and oxtails—oh my! Named after the national fruit of Jamaica, Ackee Bamboo in Leimert Park Village serves homemade Caribbean classics such as jerk chicken and curry goat in bright, colorful digs. Don’t skip the most tender plantains, Jamaican patties, and saltfish with callaloo. For vegetarians, the options are aplenty, spanning ackee plates and jackfruit platters." - An Uong

Google
Delicious new restaurant in the neighborhood - the chicken was literally falling off the bone. And these were the small portions! A little spicy, but that's what ice cream is for! 😉 You guys moved again?? Boo

Google
Amazing food, great staff ackee and saltfish combo with the rice best rice I had in years. Freshly made. Would definitely return

Google
If you're ready for fresh, authentic, delicious, Jamaican food you have to check out Ackee Bambo on Robertson. I promise you will not be disappointed. I ordered the large oxtail.. my God today..they were delectable, juicy, full of flavor and the best part they were WHOLE oxtails swimming in gravy, not cut in pieces. The rice and beans were tasty and with a good texture. The cabbage was fresh, the plantation were soft and sweet and let me not forget the festival bread it was crispy on the outside and soft inside best for sopping up that gravy😋 dont walk, but instead run down to there new location on Robertson you won't be disappointed. My hubby ordered the Iarge Jerk Chicken it was fire, not too spicy, but just right!! Oh I can't forget about Melissa she was my server very polite and attentive. They Top Notch!!

Vicki

Google
Ordered a large chicken soup for $16 - only came with two pieces of chicken

Google
Had a great experience, love the new location in a great neighborhood. The staff is very friendly, and the food is delicious, will be going back for more of the best authentic Jamaican cuisine sure.

Google
This place is absolute fire!!! My parents have never had Jamaican Food and were absolutely blown away! Definitely adding to my list of regular spots!

Google
I love this place. The food is délicieuse. It’s like I never left home.

Google
The food was delicious, I ordered the Brown Stew Snapper Fish, it was very tasty and flavorful, the serving size was very generous. Customer service was warm and friendly, definitely will be going back.

Yelp
Still re-tasting this deliciousness. Really flavorful, so good. And highly recommended. BUT... arrive with a lot of time to wait. They are popular and also perhaps not the snappiest cooks? Dunno why the holdup but it was well worth it. Our party ordered oxtail, Ackee&Saltfish, Jerk Chicken plain & BBQ. *So tasty*, and _huge_ portions, each enough for two meals or more I'd say. Though obviously this depends on who's doing the eating. Very pleasant staff, but food comes out in plasticware which isn't so nice. That's the only downside. Brown is the default rice which is appreciated. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Cashier was super friendly and attentive. 10/10 Beef patty was AMAZING! 8/10 The oxtail plate very flavorful all the food was delish EXCEPT lots of bones. I kept digging and digging thinking it was meat, but mostly bones on my plate only found one oxtail with decent amount of meat. ($22) Maybe I will try the jerk chicken instead next time.
google avatar

Yelp
Four stars only because I wish the meat pies had more meat in them. The meat was more like a soupy sauce base with an underlying heat to it that limited me from enjoying the flavor. The crust was flaky yet firm and still moist enough yet dry enough. It was served warm and seemed fresh. That's all I got this time. Will be back. Saw lots of dishes on the tables that looked nummy. Plenty of seating in a Sat night around dinner time. Tables of 2-4. Seating is inside. Next time I may order ahead as the kitchen seems small and limited labor so may want to plan ahead. Parking not too bad on the street. Service was good. Ambience is chill casual diner like.

Yelp
This is an absolute staple in the community. Good food and hearty portions. My favorite is the festival bread. I haven't found any place that makes it better.

Yelp
I have never been to Jamaica but of all Jamaican restaurants or even a few home cooked Jamaican meals I have had, this is the best. Def in my top 3 fav restaurants. The place itself is no frills but what you come here for is the food. The jerk chicken is my favorite. Mmm the sauce mixed w the rice and peas is to die for. A plate is def enough for two people unless you have a large appetite. Patties are good as well. Don't forget to ask for their habanero sauce if you like extra spice. The owner and her daughters are super sweet. I've been coming here since 2013? I think and it's still amazing. Check it out!

Yelp
THE BEST JAMAICAN FOOD IN LA - as a former New Yorker who acquired the great taste of authentic Jamaican food - this will always be #1 here. The portion me are large. I can sometimes get 2 meal. Out of the platter. The food is always served HOT. They just never miss. The service is typical Jamaican restaurant service IYKYK. The vibe is in and out.

Yelp
Met up with my friend at Leimert Park for a Utopia event, so we decided to dine before this event. Here was our experience. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking and neighborhood parking. It all depends if there are events Seating: Inside seating with room for about 30 people. Great in groups of 4. Vibes: You're in Leimert Park; thus, there is a lot of black culture to experience from the businesses, art, and, if you're lucky, the music. It's not your Hollywood-type place but more over a grit and grind area. The place itself is pretty simple. Pictures of food, award, news articles about the place. Good for family and friends. FOOD: Jerk Chicken Combo (Recommend) Delicious! There was a good amount of spice to give it a good savory kick. The cabbage salad provided a nice change in flavor and textures. Plantains were fresh and sweet. The bread was like a subtly sweet donut but great for dipping in the jerk sauce. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! It was super busy, but they held it down quite calmly TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Delicious food, good selections, reasonable price, and great experience overall. I had a good order, but when I tried my friend's ackee order, I was impressed; it tasted like scrambled eggs. I look forward to coming back here. Till next time, Ackee Bamboo! TIPS: * If I didn't say it enough, TRY that ackee * Look into their daily specials.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite Caribbean restaurant in Los Angeles. I hadn't been to the restaurant in a while and I was so happy to see they included the indoor seating again after having to take it out due to the COVID pandemic. While the restaurant is not huge, it is spacey. We quickly ordered I and sat down at the table. The hostess was great and made sure we had water to the table and that our food came out promptly. For dishes, I ordered the curry chicken while my friend ordered the jerk shrimp. Everything was delicious and the portion sizes were huge. My dish came with white rice, cabbage and festival. I had food to take home and had it for dinner since it was so big! Due to it being near a residential area and near other shops, you will have no issue finding parking. I highly recommend!
google avatar

Mike A.

Yelp
I'm pretty sure this soup is made with their leftover curry chicken which is weird. I grew up in a Jamaican household and this "chicken soup" is not it. Barely any vegetables. No carrots, corn, nor yellow YAM which is a main component of this type of soup. I know the chicken was already pre cooked because when you over stew or boil chicken it falls apart and becomes shredded. Another main component of this soup is "spinners" - white flour boiled dumplings - and there aren't any in this soup whatsoever. Too many Jamaican restaurants in Los Angeles serving up food to people that don't know any better and have no experience of what good Jamaican food actually tastes like. I'm convinced that the only good Jamaican food outside of Jamaica itself is in New York!

Yelp
My family and I have been coming to Ackee Bamboo for years and I promise the quality is always on point! I love the consistency when it comes to eating at the same restaurants frequently. Meat is always so tender, falling off the bone! I always get the bbq jerk chicken plate, and occasionally switch it up with the curry chicken plate. I love the uniqueness of the small business, giving you the feeling of eating right in Jamaica. I love that the staff are family operated and always customers politely and mindfully, careful to provide all necessary utensils and beverages packed with care.
google avatar

Yelp
The oxtail and spicy jerk chicken were really good. And the large sized portion was indeed a significant increase. Overall, a really good local spot for Jamaican cuisine compared to others in the area. Highly recommend. P.S: The restaurant was understaffed during my last two visits as of early October 2024. So expect longer than usual wait times, especially on Sundays.
google avatar

Alicia W.

Yelp
This was my first time and let me tellllllll you, I was in heaven! Melissa helped us out and she even helped me with my choice of food. I decided to try the oxtails and my bestie had the jerk chicken . I've never had Jamaican food ever and I'm in love . The restaurant is clean and everyone was friendly!! Be sure to try the beef patty, it was moist, fluffy and buttery
google avatar

Danita F.

Yelp
It wasn't for me. I missed the salt from the saltfish. I wish the plate came with food...like dumpling, potato, etc. The ackee and saltfish had too much bell peppers. The cabbage lacked flavor and was tough. The festival was good and the plantains were as well. I wouldn't say I wouldn't try them again because I would like to try the oxtail plate. I just wouldn't order the Ackee and Saltfish plate.
google avatar

Duane W.

Yelp
Great carribean food the red snapper escovitch fish was excellent. I could have that once a week. I each here often but had not tried the fish. Very good
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Listen here! I don't get to come over to Leimert Park often, but when I do, picking up a plate from Ackee is a MUST. I ordered the jerk shrimp plate, 2 patties, and the pineapple ginger juice. I'm a happy lady!!
google avatar

Hagar A.

Yelp
My friend and I were in the area and decided to stop by this spot, and boy were we so lucky to be around! A small place with limited seating. I ordered jerk chicken, large plate for $21 and it was so much food. It took 45 minutes though to get our food so allow yourself sometime to wait for it. The jerk chicken was so delicious and the meat fell right off. My favorite was the fried bread that came with it, so freaking amazing. The plate definitely is enough for two meals!!
google avatar

Yelp
I decided to order here since I was craving some Jamaican food. I've tried some other places and wanted to give this restaurant a try. 1. I ordered the Jamaican beef patty, curry goat with rice and peas - it comes with plantains, cabbage and one festival. I ordered a side of festival bread and a side of Mac and cheese. 2. The beef patty was not like the ones I'm use to, my daughter and I thought it tasted weird- it ended up in the trash. The platter was ok the goat was flavored but something was off about the spices and there wasn't enough curry sauce. The festival was decent, and the Mac and cheese was ok I could do without it though. 3. Overall the food was underwhelming I wouldn't order here again, nothing I ordered really stood out, and most of the food was left uneaten!
google avatar

Gabrielle G.

Yelp
To start I've only ever had Ackee here at this establishment, and this place has set a standard for how delicious and mouthwatering they cook their Ackee. Perfectly buttery and almost a melt in your mouth texture goes so well with the mixture of tomatoes and onions they are cooked with. This is always my experience when I order the Ackee Plate so I highly suggest you start with that! My next dish was the Jackfruit Stew, the chef herself suggested this dish for me to try, being that I'm vegan. She was absolutely correct because, wow! First taste and I received a smoky yet subtle sweetness to the broth and the jackfruit was prepared so that it still retained its sweetness. Most of the time jackfruit is prepared in a savory "meaty" kind of way. But the style of cook that was served to me showed me a whole new way of viewing this tropical fruit. 10/10 every dish

Yelp
Came back again for the 3rd time, this time I tried some new items which were the lemonade and beef patties. Both super tasty! One of the best lemonades hands down. The drink was not too sweet nor too bitter it was right in the middle. The cashier was helpful and very quick as well. Unfortunately didn't get a picture of the beef patty because I devoured it so fast but it was so good!!

Yelp
So this place loses a star just because it took nearly an hour to get our food. Pretty sure they forgot to make it. When we first came in we were the only ones there. About 20 min later they ended up having a dinner rush and lot of people came, lots of take out orders but plenty of people ordering at the counter and getting their food way before us. Even though we were there first. But the food was super good and well worth the wait. I ordered the Saltfish with festival bread and my husband got the vegan jerk jackfruit plate. The portions are huge! We definitely could've just shared the plate. The plate comes with plantains, rice and beans, veggies and bread. It was super filling and great for the prices next time I'll definitely be calling ahead of time since the food comes in disposable boxes anyways

Mychel S.

Yelp
Food is VERY flavorful and tasty! Even if you call in an order and they give you an estimated time, it may or not be ready upon arrival since they are always busy (the food is that good, lol). Make sure to check your order before leaving. I got home and realized that I was missing the item so I called to check and they said they will make a note of it so that I can receive the item at my next visit. I ordered the jerk jackfruit plate...my goodness, it was delicious. BUT I didn't see any jackfruit at all...I picked through to see if I could find any...none, just jerk sauce on veggies. Edit: Thank you to the manager's, Melissa's, response as I stand corrected. There was actually an abundance of jackfruit added, I just was unaware of what fresh jackfruit looks like since I typically eat canned jackfruit. PLEASE SEE HER RESPONSE BELOW.

Yelp
food was good + the cashier was very nice and attentive + cozy would recommend !!!!!!!

Loya A.

Yelp
I ordered online. It took about 30 mins before it was ready for pickup which isn't too bad. I did specify extra sauce for the rice and they hooked it up! I also got a small order but the portion was really big.. I had enough for the next day. The curry sauce was really good and the goat was tender. The veggies were crisp and fresh.. not completely withered how they can be at times. First time trying this place but it won't be my last. The food was served hot and fresh.. not complaints!

Yelp
My fave place to get Jamaican food! This is always my go-to. I know there are a handful of good Jamaican spots in LA, but Ackee Bamboo has my heart - the flavor, the AMOUNT of food, service, and parking. My go-to would be the jerk chicken plate on Thursday's... But now they have the regular and the large plate offerings on their menu. Also! Usually the spice-rub is what makes this style of chicken, but I really like how juicy they make their jerk chicken; it's broth-like and love that they pour a hearty amount on top of your rice so it soaks up all the flavors *chef's kiss* Nice amount of heat, too might I add! The oxtails are fire, too! But it has been a minute since I've ordered it from here; may need to revisit soon because I have been craving!!! If you're starving like I am, I always get a spinach patty when I'm here since that serves as my appetizer while waiting for my food!
google avatar

Diane J.

Yelp
The food is very good! The portion size is excellent and the curry gravy is delicious. They are always busy which is good so you know the food is fresh. As busy as they are, customer service is excellent. They handel the crowd well that I've seen. My order is always correct and priced well for what you get. Meat pies are on hit, luv them. I drive from Covina for a plate! So it must be good!
google avatar

Tori H.

Yelp
I hear A LOT of good things about this place so we decided to try it out. The establishment itself is very much old/outdated. It was packed. We ordered and stood outside, no seats available, no standing room. 35 minute wait time for food. We got a chicken quesadilla (basic, I know) and the oxtail plate. THE PORTIONS ARE BIG! The chicken quesadilla was fire! I didn't know they were going to put chopped bell peppers & onions. That took it up a notch and made it super flavorful! It was so flavorful it didn't even need sauce! I personally am not a fan of oxtail, my sister is. She said they were the best ones she's had. I tested them, and honestly they were pretty good. we also got cream sodas, FIRE. Definitely recommend just be advised of long wait times, maybe call and order ahead.
google avatar

Teja F.

Yelp
Believe the hype! The Jerk Bbq chicken with rice and peas were so well seasoned and juicy. I can't wait to go back and try more,
google avatar

Billy R.

Yelp
On point every time I've been. Just got a catering order for my son's graduation party. Bomb bomb -- especially the beef patties. Also, I think the secret ingredient is love... just sayin.

C. W.

Yelp
This jerk chicken never saw a grill. I was sold watered down over stewed chicken drenched in jerk seasoning. In all my days , I've never tasted any Jerk chicken this awful. Technique was non existent. This is the type of place you need to see your food before you walk out. I WOULD NEVER have purchased this had I known. I feel stupid knowing for certain Wah Gwaan has superior jerk chicken right around the corner!
google avatar

Kelsey C.

Yelp
"Hold the bag by the bottom, the gravy tends to leak." That's how you know the food is good. They were talking about the Oxtail, which, authentic as it was, wasn't my favorite dish. Still delicious, hit the spot if you love oxtail. I preferred the Curry Goat, tender with a kick in all its stew-y comfort. Jazzed about the juicy Jerk Chicken. It's not just a spice rub - the soup soaks all the way through for full flavor. The sides are important too. Rice and peas are full of flavor, plantains are sweet, cabbage is cool. The Festival Bread is a cornmeal mouth-party. Like the restaurant, love the cuisine. Wish I lived closer so I could visit once a month.

Eve B.

Yelp
I work nearby so I get patties every now and then but they're so good I could eat them everyday! I took my husband with me one evening for actual dinner and the service was outstanding! So attentive and friendly and the food being amazing is only a plus!
google avatar

BreShy H.

Yelp
This is my favorite Jamaican spot I love it here Customer service is always good & I love forward to it.

Judy W.

Yelp
This is my go to for good Jamaican food. Although they are a bit slow, they provide good customer service.
google avatar

Valentin S.

Yelp
The plates there are insane! I got the curry goat and wish I could try them all. The plate was packed to the brim. I saw on the menu they have daily specials which is something that piqued my interest.
google avatar

Sharita B.

Yelp
The best Jamaican food I've ever tried! Amazingly good and fresh! I wish I stayed closer.
google avatar

B B.

Yelp
Customer service was nice but the food was nasty. This did not taste like any Jamaican food I've had in life, the sauce threw it off. It tasted almost soapy. I also would loved the plantains separated instead of drench in sauce. I couldn't even finish my plate
google avatar

Dominique M.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST Jamaican spot I've been too. Ordered a Jamaican Patty, Strawberry Lemonade Calypso and a Large Jerk Chicken plate. Food: Chicken patty was flaky and had a little spice to it. It was a nice snack before the feast began. The Jerk Chicken Plate came with: Baked Jerk Chicken, Rice & Peas, steamed cabbage, festival bread (a type of fried dumpling) and plantains. Absolutely phenomenal plate. I've had jerk chicken plates where the chicken was filled with bones, but this was succulent AF. The large plate lasted me two days! I can't recommend this spot enough. Scratch & Sniff the picture.
google avatar

Alisa B.

Yelp
The sumptuous PORTIONS !! It's healthy, clean eating ! I return over & over again for the Jerk chicken wrap. The way the aged cheddar cheese mingles with those traditional spices. I appreciate the never swaying personable service too ! Thank the Hard Working individuals that exist and lead locally-- I bemoan driving to Culver City for inspirational dinning.

Yelp
Soup is amazing callalou (Jamaican collards) tasty and always fresh Plates are tasty Patties meh.. service is great- whatever mixtape they were playing last time I was there I wanted to get up and dance. Reggae bangers ...
google avatar

Bruce N.

Yelp
By far the best Jamacian restaurant in LA Counter service, usual faire, jerk chicken. Oxtail and several patties Helpful friendly staff, street parking
google avatar

Chantel D.

Yelp
I've been coming here for over 10 years. I always get the oxtail plate. In all my years of coming here I'd say they got the best oxtail plate in town. Some of these reviews baffle me. I wonder how someone can talk to highly of the food and yet only give 4 stars. ‍ Paying $27-30 a plate is well worth it. Yes the container has gotten smaller. But it's still worth every bit. I used to live in the area but now I'm an hour away and I still find it worth it every time I make my way there. There are no Jamaican restaurants out in OC. If they brought a food truck out here or opened a brick and mortar in Tustin they would have a line going out the door and around the corner just like in LA. All you can find out here is Mexican, Cuban, Asian, American of course and one African food truck in Irvine but only on Saturdays. Those local to Ackee Bamboo should be very thankful. I've tried other Jamaican spots out there and there was one back 23 years ago in Inglewood that served great jerk chicken, grilled the way I like it, but they changed owners and it is not the same so I'd say Ackee's is the best Jamaican food spot out there in LA. The family is always cool with me. Running a restaurant and dealing with some of those locals is no easy task. Especially when they got a scarcity mindset and no business savvy to go with it... they want everything cheap. News Flash!!! They are a business and can charge what they want. And yes it's tiring. Between the past pandemic and this now recession you should thankful they are business savvy enough to keep the shop open and the food tasting the same as I tasted 11 years ago. The owner is very smart. It shows in all the good food we all have the pleasure to enjoy. I look forward to seeing you all soon and tasting all the love you put in the food. I appreciate your food and service.
google avatar

Leyda G.

Yelp
This food was delicious. Generous portions filled with yummy food. Tried the ackee, ox tail, chicken. Such great service! Loved the relaxed ambiance. Will be coming back soon.
google avatar

Shelly H.

Yelp
Very delicious spot! I was literally drooling once I smelled my food in the bag! Everything about this location is so authentic and freshly made. I highly recommend trying there specials. I showed up on a bbq jerk chicken special, afternoon. It was a great thing I did because this chicken was juicyyyyy and packed with flavor. The meat was literally falling off the bone! The cabbage went perfectly with my meal, and the "festival bread" was such a nice taste to add to my meal--especially with the gravy on the plate. To drink I ordered the pineapple/lemon smoothie. Very fresh if and wasn't overly sweetened. It's natural flavors were enough! I would definitely would love to try this location again!
google avatar

Maureen M.

Yelp
Had a taste for some authentic Jamaican food. It was good. Had the curry goat and my hubby had the jerk chicken wrap. The curry goat was tasty, good flavor. You could choose a small or large portion. The wrap was tasty and good portion size. The staff wore masks, and there is limited seating outside if you want to sit and eat. Most people do carry out due to pandemic. They had 6ft guidelines in place with signs as well on the exterior and interior of the restaurant It's a nice area that has many vendor shops on a small strip in historic Lamert Park district. Had music playing outside, street parking with meters available. You can also order delivery if you choose to.

Maya O.

Yelp
This is the best Jamaican food I've ever had in my life. We drive over an hour just to come eat here and it's amazing every time
google avatar

Johnny M.

Yelp
My Jamaican friend, Michele, that passed away, she makes the best Jamaican food, hands-down. No one come close to her cooking. Ackee Bamboo comes close, but my friends food still tested better. Out of all other Jamaican foods that I have tasted other than my friend Ackee Bamboo has the best.

Jade S.

Yelp
10/10!!! This place has the best oxtail dish i've ever tried! Definitely worth the hour drive. The meat literally melts in your mouth when you eat it. Flavors are perfect too
google avatar

Nikki W.

Yelp
Bomb Bomb Bomb! Sooo Fresh, Jerk Chicken Cooked well and Fall off the bone, Cabbage Not hard Sauteed well! Festival Bomb! Beef/chicken patiies are good, I did notice they have gotten extremely Smaller in size, like Not that Much meat in them, like they used to have in it! The young girl at the counter is nice, just very soft spoken can barely hear her. Her Mom the Owner was in the kitchen pre the food, and my Order came out Rather Fast, Surprisingly. I don't live in the area, but I will Always Support when I am. Oan a Small you can eat off two days maybe three!!! So Delish, Don't change a ting!
