"Drawn by promises of prosperity, Kátia Barbosa’s family immigrated to Rio from Brazil’s rustic northeast a generation ago. Her restaurant, Aconchego Carioca (which translates to something like “the Rio embrace”), serves pretension-free fare: beef jerky, thick yucca fries, manioc flour, chewy white cheese, and the iconic feijoada fritter — a now-ubiquitous delicacy based on the classic Brazilian bean stew — that Barbosa invented here.
