The 33 Best Rio de Janeiro Restaurants | Eater

"Drawn by promises of prosperity, Kátia Barbosa’s family immigrated to Rio from Brazil’s rustic northeast a generation ago. Her restaurant, Aconchego Carioca (which translates to something like “the Rio embrace”), serves pretension-free fare: beef jerky, thick yucca fries, manioc flour, chewy white cheese, and the iconic feijoada fritter — a now-ubiquitous delicacy based on the classic Brazilian bean stew — that Barbosa invented here. The impressive beer and caipirinha selection deserves a whirl, and the new venue (just a few meters from the previous location) begs guests to linger." - Rafael Tonon

Aconchego Carioca

"The famous bolinho de feijoada (feijoada fritter) recipe, created in this restaurant by the highly enterprising owner-chef Kátia Barbosa, was popularised in the country’s soap operas to the point that it has become a symbol of national pride. The restaurant’s unpretentious dining room, decorated with Brazilian motifs, is enhanced by a pleasant terrace. The cuisine is traditional Brazilian, with influences from Rio and the northeast of the country, and can be accompanied by one of the 80 beers on offer here." - Michelin Inspector

Food was so good. Atmosphere was great. A little hard to find the place but that's part of what made it so attractive

Small cute place in the North side of Rio. Traditional northeastern food. Home of the original feijoada croquette. Decoration is very nice, with hammocks attached to the ceiling. Mauricio, the server, is a star. Super attentive and caring. The food is very tasty, comes in big serving portions.

Incredible Brazillian food!! I ate Bobó de camarão as a main and Almofadinha Doce de leite for dessert. They had an English menu and my waiter was very kind and patient. Highly recommend.

Really love coming here to enjoy authentic Brazilian cuisine without the tourist trap letdown! I'm a huge fan of the bobo de camarão and the very warm service. Alex and Samara took good care of me the last time I was there!

Yelp
I think my expectations were too high. I'd give the restaurant special (bolinhos) a 5/5. Perhaps these also raised my hopes for the rest of the meal. Our mains were good but didn't blow me away. Service was okay but not memorable.

Yelp
If you're contemplating stopping here, stop hesitating and do yourself a favor and come in. We came here for lunch after a conference and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing!!!! We ordered the shrimp empanadas and the oxtail croquettes and they are the best we had ever had. We also ordered a dish were they slice sausage, grill onions, and serve it over little cheese breads and yuca and it was just delicious. We couldn't stop eating it. The staff is very friendly as well and although we had a bit of trouble communicating, they still were very nice and made sure we knew what we were ordering.

Yelp
Typical Brazilian food, simple in style, but rich in taste. The "main attraction" is the bolinho de feijoada - and I'll validate that. It is a must. It comes with a shot of cachaça and lime that makes your mouth feel like you're in a barbecue on Sunday about to jump in the pool as the sun shines on your face. We also had other bolinhos, but focus on the feijoada one. The dishes are super well served and easily feed 2 people - 3, depending on how many bolinhos you ordered as appetizers. I recommend the picanha de carne de sol (incredibly soft meet) and anything with bobó de camarão - in the coconut, in the moranga, with rice. For desert (if you still have room!), do not overlook the cheese sticks with goiabada cascão - simply to die for. By the way, caipirinhas go well with everything mentioned above!
