The Best Restaurants In San Jose

"It took almost a decade for contemporary Mexican restaurant Acopio to rise from the ashes of a taqueria that burned to the ground in 2012. But it was worth the wait. Acopio feels like a modern Mexico City or Guadalajara restaurant, with a menu that makes the most of California’s excellent produce. Dishes like chile adobo duck confit with chocolate chile molé, and mushroom and hibiscus flower tacos, are so delicious they haunt our dreams. Head here for dinner, when the succulent-and-tile-filled spot is buzzing, or grab a seat at the bar and sip on a cocktail made with jalapeño-infused tequila, cilantro oil, and pickled pineapple." - shoshi parks

We had dinner at the bar on a Friday night. This place is a great date spot! Lots of good cocktail and mocktail options. The guy at the bar recommended we stick to the happy hour menu for food which we did. We enjoyed the oysters, elote, potatoes, steak tacos and tres leches dessert. Service was perfect! I’d definitely come back.

Today, by chance, the restaurant I was originally going to go to was closed, and I entered this place where I was curious as I passed by. The place I found while passing by looked like a bar, but when I searched, it said it was a fusion Mexican restaurant, so I thought I should visit it. I was looking forward to it because it looked very modern. The interior attracted attention with a very clean and sophisticated interior. I received the menu and didn't know much about Mexican cuisine, so I left the order to my husband. Thinking of as the owner, she was really kind and gave a careful explanation of the menu and we accepted most of her suggestions. As a result, it was really delicious. The dishes with the ingredients they made and their know-how felt different from the Mexican dishes they had tried so far. The dessert was perfect, and the duck dish in the pepper was a little spicy, so my husband liked it more. We were hungry after going to the gym, but we cleared all the plates. If you have anything to do near downtown, I strongly recommend you to visit.

Great cocktails, unique and delicious flavors of food! Duck leg was my favorite - crispy, tender and delicious mole sauce. Had the churros and homemade ice cream - again amazing and unique flavors. Tortilla is a must try!

The place is absolutely beautiful, the food and drinks are delicious, and the dessert is insanely good. I'm really surprised and excited to go back and try more!

Lovely hidden gem, upscale service, friendly and knowledge staff, celebrated a birthday and the bartender made it extra special! Every dish was beautiful and delicious! Definitely a date night spot and or small party location! Did I mention, EVERYTHING was delicious, drinks, agua frescas, desserts and all the dishes!

Google
Phenomenal food! I love their note about how they prepare and process corn for their delicious authentic tortillas. Their Yukon gold potatoes are the best potatoes I think I've ever had. Pork belly tacos were delicious. For dessert I had guava ice cream and it's my new favorite ice cream. Would definitely visit again!

Ambience is nice. Little place with great authentic food with delicious flavors and sauce are very fresh. Crews are very friendly. Menu is in Spanish but explained by one of the crew member very nicely what comes in the dish which was very helpful to place the order. Will definitely go back.

Yelp
SUPER CUTE. What a total hidden gem! A friend of mine had recommended this place and I was so excited to check it out! Acopio has awesome service, great food, and is quite a lovely restaurant. To my surprise, the location is right next to downtown San Jose. (which am not the biggest fan of btw BUT..) Acopio makes you FEEL like you are in lovely area similar to Los Gatos. I especially like how they have their own personal parking lot that has automatic lights that turn on at night time that makes the area feel very safe, secure, and clean. We had called for last minute reservations and surprisingly they had lots of openings available. One of the first things I noticed was that the design of the restaurant is very pristine, modern, clean, and trendy. They also have a very interesting colorful bar right when you walk in. Very cool! All of the servers we had were so super kind, caring, and nice. They also gave us a little background story on the restaurant and how long it's been here. Very nice! We decided to order lots of different dishes in order to get an idea/feel for the restaurant. We ordered the Costillas De Elote (Corn Ribs), Tortillas de casa, Ceviche Tostadas, and Al Pastor (pork) tacos. OMG! I am so absolutely in love with the Al Pastor tacos. They were literally so delicious and amazing! I really love how they added in unique toppings like pineapple, jalapeños, and unique garnishes that brought the whole dish together. These are legitimately some of the BEST tacos that I have ever had. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I also was super excited to try out the Costillas De Elote (Corn Ribs) as well because I had noticed the beautiful photos from their Yelp page and this really caught me eye. This dish is great as well. It features a twist on Mexican street corn that is sliced up to make a unique and classy design. All of the dishes were beautifully placed and put together in unique fashion. Bonus points for aesthetics as well as great taste! lol. I loved the Ceviche as well. It was absolutely delicious and super yummy. The taste is unique and light. My only complaint would be that the ceviche was basically a tostada cut in half where other restaurants usually have a big bowl of ceviche as a starter to dip into. So keep in mind that this is a tiny appetizer when ordering. The Tortillas de casa were honestly very skippable. I'm not sure if we were supposed to add something to it? but it only came with beans, salsa, and queso fresco. I'm guessing maybe we were supposed to add something? But there was no add one or recommendations. This dish was a little confusing and plain.. lol. For dessert we got the Tres leches cake. It was beyond amazing. Sadly I totally forgot to take a photo of it because it was so it looked absolutely PERFECT lol. The desert was so creamy and beautifully made. It wasn't overpowering and you could definitely taste the high-quality ingredients that went into making it. (&This is saying A LOT because I usually am not too crazy about Tres Leches cakes. lol.) Highly recommend. Overall we had a beautiful dinner with awesome service and delicious food. Acopio is a very classy, quiet, modern, and unique place. I also really love how it was a very nice place to have conversations as it isn't one of those very loud/busy restaurants. Highly recommend for date night, business meetings, and/or a nice family time. :)

Yelp
This is the kind of elevated food with really thoughtful ingredients and presentation that you find in Mexico City and Los Angeles. San Jose needs more beautiful places like this for us to enjoy a thrilling and unique experience. They also have a terrific happy hour from five to 6:30 PM with a full bar. And while it's a busy street they have plenty of offstreet parking. Please make sure you try the duck with mole. I also really enjoyed the flan. The waitress was kind and the chef even came out and said hello to us.

Yelp
Came here last week with some friends of ours for a nice dinner. We had made a reservation about a month prior. Apparently they were having a comedy night in their restaurant so they couldn't serve us inside but could sit us outside. Luckily it was one of those hot days where it was nice outside at 7pm. Service was okay. Waitress wasn't super friendly or warm with us. We ordered Tostada De Kampanchi, Costillas De Elite and the Ceviche which we all shared. Pretty tasty flavors and we enjoyed them. I ordered the mushroom tacos since it was highly recommended from other Yelpers. I thought they were just okay and not very flavorful. Texture wasn't quite right with the mushrooms and the tortillas were definitely different. Not sure what they were made out of but quite dry. I probably wouldn't come back.....service wasn't very friendly and don't think I am really a fan of contemporary Mexican food.

Yelp
Acopio is always amazing. We've enjoyed Acopio's many times and we always come back because of the food & the owner! Acopio is owned by Lorena and she runs an amazing restaurant. Lorena & her staff are always so welcoming! Acopio is Mexico City. Either you've had amazing food in Mexico City or you haven't but now you can try Mexico city in San Jose I used the menu titles for each of the photo captions. But I'll cut to chase in English. 1) you can't beat the corn ribs. They are simply amazing as an appetizer. 2) the ceviche tostada was new this time and truly wonderful! 3) Acopio has different variations of mushroom tacos, but tonight they have huaraches with mushrooms on top! Literally, these are the most exquisite tasting mushrooms ever! 4) Tonight we had a beautiful winter salad but I forgot to get a photo-sorry! Amazing! 5) for dessert (and we've had this several times now) we have the most amazing squash with crème brûlée and a wonderfully fresh cream. This dessert is so unique and amazing. The squash is cooked perfectly so you can even eat the skin Tonight it was just my wife and I... we had so much fun!

Yelp
I really adore this place. Nice, quaint place, tucked in the outskirts of downtown SJ. Simple, modern restaurant. Chill ambience. Has a bar and cafe. I only came for drinks and dessert. I had the churro and my friend had a strawberry dessert (I forgot what it was called). Both were delicious and airy. My crew had several cocktails, and all of them were enjoyable. We only were there for after-dinner aperitifs and dessert. I'd love to come back an try out the rest of their menu items. But so far so good.

Yelp
In general, I would absolutely like to praise the cocktails/bar and variety of options on that front. I loved my drink and I now know they have a solid spicy margarita! They make their own jalapeño syrup in house. I had a cocktail made with mezcal, which is usually not a liquor I go for, but it was so well done and dynamic/memorable. The space itself is very clean and modern, with its own small private parking lot. In terms of food, overall, I do think that there is room for improvement. I ordered the pork belly tacos ($15 for 3 small tacos). Maybe it was just that day, but the pork was pretty dry and not as salty as I'd expect. The tacos came already dressed in a very light green salsa and with some cut up citrus, but were just pretty plain. I think adding a side of chips and salsa or even the ability to mix and match tacos in an order, or add a side of rice-- might be a nice improvement. Our group shared the elote and potatoes as appetizers-- I tried just the corn and it was good. Seems like they have changed the presentation slightly from photos a while back on here to more recently (July 2024). Our group also ordered and shared the tres leches cake that looked very nice, but is probably best for sharing with two people max. My partner ordered the fried chicken cutlet and was happy with the portion size, but did not realize that it would not come with much else in terms of sides-- all would have had to be ordered a la carte (i.e. tortillas, rice perhaps). Again, "plain" was the lasting impression. The food leaves something more to be desired, so for that reason I am rating this place 3 stars after my first visit.

Yelp
I'm pretty disappointed that my favorite dish--mushroom tacos--at Acopio has changed. It used to be build your own taco with a generous portion of roasted mushrooms. Now, the portions are a lot less. I would prefer to just pay more to build my own tacos.

Yelp
Great experience at Acopio. Food was delicious. I got a spice margarita and it was sooo good. The restaurant has a nice vibe, it's fairly small but cozy. Definitely recommend checking out this spot if you're in the area.

Yelp
We had our company holiday party here and the service was great; friendly and competent. The food was excellent- I am obsessed with the potato appetizer! My paloma was excellent as well, very effective! 10/10 highly recommend!

Yelp
All the reviews below mention Acopio as a hidden gem. Confirming they're 100% right. Acopio is truly a Bay Area gem and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves for the delicious food, creative drinks, stunning decor, lovely staff, and awesome vibes. First off, the food was incredible (mushroom tacos were an unexpected favorite and you have to order the Pastel De Tres Leches De Fresas for dessert). As a group of four, we ordered and loved: - Tostada De Kanpanchi (kanpachi tartare with delicious toppings, definitely a must try) - Costillas De Elote (corn ribs, my friend who doesn't like corn loved these) - Mole Poblano Con Pato (duck with an incredible chocolate chile mole) - Breaded Pork Cutlet (this thing was HUGE) - Tacos De Champignones (mushroom tacos and these were a surprise find! I usually go for meat dishes but ordered these on a whim, highly recommend). - Pastel De Tres Leches De Fresas (the prettiest and best dessert I've had at a restaurant in a while. You have to try this and the strawberries were so sweet!) There were a bunch of other things I wanted to try on the menu so I can't wait to go back! There's a parking lot behind the restaurant, so parking is a breeze (for those of you with parking anxiety like me lol).

Yelp
The vibes of this place is pretty nice! I went with some girl friends one night. It's located kind of in a neighborhood in San Jose but I loved how it had its own parking lot. We shared some light bites and got some cocktails and had a shot for a celebration. The bartender was accommodating in what we were looking for in a shot and it was perfect. The cocktails were festive and the server even recommended something off menu that was delicious. It was like a squash dish. We also got mushroom tacos, the corn ribs, ceviche, and mole. All great!

Yelp
This is a hidden a gem in San Jose! Went on a week day evening for happy hour. Great happy hour prices and the drinks are amazing! Highly recommend the agua frescas! Service was incredibly welcoming and friendly with the bartender letting us try new drink concoctions. All the small bites ordered were tasty as well. Bonus points for having a WNBA game playing on the tv :)

Yelp
Acopio is such a gem! We made a same-day reservation for Friday evening, but probably didn't need one because every time slot was available. When we arrived at 6PM, the restaurant was mostly empty, but quickly got busier as the night went on. The interior was modern and stylish, with a beautiful bar and cool lighting fixtures. They also had some (dog friendly) outdoor seating by the entrance. For drinks, I chose the Xicaru and my friend got the Alebrije. I loved the Xicaru so much! It wasn't too sweet and you could really taste the jalapeño, but it didn't overpower the cocktail. The Alebrije was great too, but my friend ended up switching to the Xicaru for his second round. For food, we ordered a bunch of items to share - the Costillas de Elote (a MUST order), Ostiones Asadas (absolutely delicious), Pipian Verde con Pato (also a must, such great flavors), and Al Pastor de Camaron (probably the most forgettable dish, but still tasty). I was genuinely blown away by the quality of the food, and the beautiful presentation. The menu was also small, so I felt like I got to try everything. For dessert, we shared the Tarta Agria, which I was also obsessed with. I generally love lemon tarts, but this one was like a cross between a lemon tart and creme brûlée - so tasty! Service was friendly/warm and overall this was one of my favorite dinners in San Jose. Will happily return!

Yelp
I have been wanting to stop by Acopio for awhile and glad I had the opportunity to do so. I did get the corn ribs which I thought were amazing and had great flavor. The ceviche was a little disappointing for what you get for the price. My fried pork chop was a great size for the price. The garlic sauce they added on the side was delicious. My alcoholic beverage was very tasty but what was really amazing was the Chimoy rim. I couldn't stop licking my glass! Service was excellent and the waitress was very informative about the menu
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! Such yummy food, Mexican made and in a truly unique way. Loved the drinks, ordered Mezcal and passion fruit, and my date had a jalapeño concoction. Elote, cheese plate, and pork belly tacos were a great choice too. Place had good vibes, fun music...can't wait to come back and get my seafood mix in too!

Yelp
Walked in on a Friday around 5:45pm. Most tables were reserved but there were seats available at the bar. Perfect for our party of 2 for their Happy Hour menu. // PARKING - small lot on site. Wasn't an issue at the time we went but it was full when we left an hour later. // DRINKS - great cocktails! Especially the HH prices at $10 when they are normally $15. // APPETIZERS - ordered half a dozen oysters and the Aguachile. Oysters were plump and excellent quality. For the Aguachile, loved the sauce and combination of textures. // MAINS - Pork Belly was tender and fatty. Great combination of flavors with the tangerine bits. However, service was not attentive. One bartender was making drinks for the whole restaurant and it was challenging to flag someone else down. I wish they left a pitcher of water for us to pour ourselves. Had the smallest glass of water and didn't get a chance to ask for a refill. TL;DR - great food. Decent prices, but it will add up quickly to feel full due to the portion size. Could improve on service.

Yelp
The food is exquisitely unique and delicious here! Staff is very friendly and the ambiance is fun and light hearted. The duck confit with mole and escabeche is an absolute must!

Yelp
Acopio is a jewel that deserves to be recognized widely and celebrated! Clearly a labor of love by the wonderful Lorena and family who also own Taqueria Lorena, Acopio serves Michelin quality food without the pretentiousness or the exorbitant prices of such. From the moment you walk in, you know you are in a special place that belies the more humble surroundings. The decor is bright, warm and modern. You can also sit outside and do Al Fresco dining if you please. Marshall, the ex-Alexander's steakhouse chef has been inspired by the modern Mexican food served at world renowned Pujol and Quintonil in Mexico City who consistently make the worlds best restaurant list. We get to benefit from his passion because his food is inspired, surprising both in both looks and taste and... is delicious. Same with the drinks. Everything we had was delectable and rave worthy. My new favorite restaurant in the area, I will be coming back on a regular basis and introducing it to friends and family alike. Please go and enjoy this passion project of Lorena and Marshall. This place should not be a secret and they deserve incredible success.

Yelp
Unusually good Mexican and awesome! I had the three beef taco platter . They make their tortillas here for starters and everything else is authentic home made as well. You can smell this place from 250 feet away! They have real Coke and a few other south of the border bottled drinks but the traditional Mexican dishes can all be had and at affordable prices as well. I don't go this far downtown much but if u do I will be thinking to stop here for lunch

Yelp
Hidden Gem!! Tucked away from the bustling downtown of San Jose lies a hidden gem of Mexican cuisine. While its location may deter some, those who venture to this neighborhood spot are in for a treat. The mezcal cocktails steal the show, offering a refreshing taste. Each sip is a journey of smoky flavors and expertly crafted blends. The Vegetal Taco, Elote, and Papitas Yukon were all exceptional, boasting unique flavors and expert preparation. Each dish showcased the culinary creativity of the kitchen and left us craving more. However, the restaurant's distance from downtown means it doesn't attract as much foot traffic as its counterparts. It's a shame because this hidden gem deserves more recognition. In conclusion, for food enthusiasts willing to venture off the beaten path, this neighborhood Mexican restaurant offers an unparalleled culinary experience that's worth going there.

S K.

Yelp
Used to love this place but the owner seems determined to ruin it. They've entirely done away with or changed the recipes to some of the best items on their menu, rendering much of the food bland and flavor-less, increased prices and reduced portions, and instituted a truly insufferable comedy night on Thursdays (getting heckled while going to a restaurant to eat dinner is rarely going to make people return.) The staff remain the best part of this restaurant, though turnover seems to be high.

Y K.

Yelp
My favorite place in San Jose. Such an aesthetic small restaurant with amazing vibes.

Yelp
Acopio is a small, upscale, contemporary Mexican restaurant. It's located on a quiet street corner and has a small private parking lot. Walking in the front door, there is a bar to the left and dining tables to the right. The restaurant is clean and bright (including the restrooms). There was also some pleasant background music playing that featured Spanish lyrics. We went on a Sunday night during the NFL playoffs; so, only 1/3 of the tables were occupied. We ordered: - oysters, broiled in a very tasty chipotle mezcal butter and lime sauce. - duck confit, with a pistachio mole, that was super tender and flavorful. - pork belly tacos, which come deconstructed, and are a deep fried flavor bomb that we thoroughly enjoyed. - shrimp tacos, also deconstructed, with a firey red sauce which may be a bit much for some diners. - flan with coconut-lime shaved ice. a wonderful cap to the meal. Overall, a great experience with one glaring but correctable problem. The kitchen seems very slow. I suspect they were understaffed that evening but it's worth noting in case you have post-dinner plans. One recommendation to the owners is that they should expand the standard items on the menu a bit as the small selection sort of discourages repeat business if you like variety. That being said, I did note that the menus in the Yelp pix showed a bit of variation in the non-standard items. expert tips: 1) reservations are made in their website 2) order extra tortillas ($5 for 3 at this time) with the taco plates as 3 aren't enough. 3) the duck confit is recommended

Yelp
I drove past here one day coming from Downtown SJ and I thought "man that looks like a nice spot. I'll have to check it out". Well I finally made it and I was pretty surprised. Floored even. Small and quaint little spot with great decor and some parking in their lot behind the restaurant. I didn't have reservations but the host was very nice and offered us seats near the bar (which I thought was quite pretty). Started with oysters and elote 'bricks'. Use your hands, it's easier, trust me. Main course we picked the housemade tacos with al pastor and the duck confit. Both amazing dishes but the duck really was the star of the show to me (and the cocktails). Can't wait to come back
google avatar

Yelp
Husband and I ate here for our anniversary. The food was excellent and so refreshing. We tried almost every appetizer, all were delicious. Most memorable was the elote and the agua chile. Definitely recommend the happy hour. Only gripe is we wrote in our reservation it was our anniversary and they didn't acknowledge that. Will be going back.

Yelp
Unparalleled Mexican cuisine in the South Bay. We felt like we were in a Michelin starred restaurant in Mexico City. The mole with duck was exquisite. The corn ribs were perfect. The flan dessert had multiple textures and flavors. Interior architecture is modern and spacious. Not at all noisy. Service was very strong - personal touches much appreciated. We will definitely return again and again!!

Yelp
A hidden gem in San Jose! We split 6 dishes between 2 people and all of the food was a delight. My favorite was the duck confit which was cooked to perfection. The photos can speak for itself. Our server Jojo was the best. Knowledgeable and helped us choose enough dishes for the evening. The location was in an area of San Jose I don't visit too often so it was a surprise. The ambiance is clean and would be better suited after sun down for a more intimate feeling. I will return soon when their menu changes with the season.

Yelp
Wow - what a nice surprise! This place has been open for more than a year, but we just learned of it (thanks to @sanjosespotlight). The bar and restaurant are beautiful and stylish - a place you could hang out and have a cocktail and small bites. Speaking of cocktails, the menu is creative and thoughtful. At our server's recommendation I had the xicaru - smoky, slightly spicy, tangy, delicious! We shared the elote, camarones, and carnitas (as tacos). We finished with the corn & peach panna cotta. Everything was perfect, including the service. It was a little spendy ($150 with tip for two of us), but really enjoyable. Although it gets traffic noise, we enjoyed sitting outdoors on a warm night. They have a dedicated parking lot. We'll be back for happy hour in the bar (all day on Sundays). This place is a real gem!
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty cool casual but elevated Mexican cuisine. Cocktails were good and food was generally good tho a bit pricy. Id recommend the corn ribs, oysters, and the duck entree. While the scallops were good, I can't recommend it due to it being $40 which I feel is a bit much. The tacos are a bit expensive as well. The crab tacos run for $15 and the al pastor were $8 each. I didn't love that the crab tacos were battered. It kinda reminded me of soft shell crab. Overall I enjoyed my meal and would recommend to others to check out this restaurant

Yelp
Mexican food was thrown out as an option for dinner, and Acopio quickly popped in my mind. I don't recall how I came across Acopio, but all I remember is that it's been on my list of places to try for over a year. I made reservations for 8:15pm on a Saturday evening. My fiancé and I were running late, so I called in to give the restaurant a heads up that we would need to push our reservation out a bit. Acopio had no problems with accommodating us, but they did advise us on the kitchen closing at 9pm, an hour before closing. We made it to the restaurant at 8:30pm and were surprised to find an adorably bright and trendy restaurant. I appreciated the Aztec inspiration for the decor, and they had a really nice looking bar. Customer service was excellent. There were two wait staff members sharing responsibilities across the tables. They were very friendly, helpful, and highly efficient. Attentiveness throughout the night was on point. The fact that we arrived close to the kitchen closing for the evening ended up working to our advantage. The food came out super fast after we placed our order, but the speediness of delivery didn't compromise the taste and quality of the food. We ordered a few things off the menu including the elote, grilled cheese, vegetarian taco plate, and al pastor taco plate. Admittedly I didn't try the al pastor taco plate since I don't eat pork. However, everything I tried was fantastic. I'll be first to admit that I'm not big of corn, but I absolutely loved Acopio's elote. For this shareable dish, a corn cob is split 6 ways down the core and then covered in spices, house mayo, and the most amazing chili sauce I've never had. The flavor of the chili was incredibly unique! The grilled Panela cheese was different (in a good way). I was expecting something like Haloumi cheese, but the texture of Panela is much softer. It was covered in flavorful seasoning, and the sweet tomatillo jam on top was a great touch. Lastly, the vegetarian taco plate was amazing. I was super happy with this as my entrée. The "meatiness" of the taco filling came from grilled mushrooms, and there were flavors coming from a chili aioli, pepitas pesto, and queso. The dish came with three, well-made blue corn mini tortillas.

Yelp
This place is so cute! Can't believe I didn't know about this place! Th owner was so incredibly sweet and she told us about the story, about how they make everything in-house with the most fresh ingredients! Cocktails were delicious and the food was amazing!!! The dessert blew us away too! You have to try this place!! (Ps: they sell gift cards too, so a great gift idea to share this place too!)

Yelp
One word: EXQUISITE Incredible flavor combinations and beautiful decor. Alebrije cocktail: complex mix of tart and sweet. Garnish is smoked rosemary and tajin-esque powder rim El Milpero cocktail: rich chocolate whisky Costillas de elote (cornribs): the salsa macha (a spicy crunchy topping) took familiar elote flavors to next level Para taquear vegetal (mushroom tacos): earthy, meaty and complex Para taquear carnitas (pork belly tacos): divinely crispy pork belly, and combining it with the citrus and green salsa was a unique complex flavor bomb Pipian verde con park (duck leg): rich duck with intriguing sweet masa (corn) cake, squash, and this herby and sweet purée Everything we ate was 10/10, I will be coming back to try more for sure About 8 parking spots available behind the restaurant

Rita Duarte H.

Yelp
Excellent service, menu, ambience and foods! As I told the owner, I give Acopio a 10 out of 5! The creativity of the dishes and their display is off the charts! Absolutely delicious! We'll be back! ¡Muchísimas gracias!

Yelp
Caviar service in E Man Jose?! What the what? I'll eat caviar if it's there but it's not something I appreciate enough to drop a Benjamin or two for an ounce. But, if I did and if I was rich, I would be ALL over it.... Bring on those beluga bumps! To eat, not snort by the way. It's a bold move in this part of town and I love that about Acopia. Less than a year young, Acopio is the upscale sister restaurant to Taqueria Lorena's (been open for 30+ years!). They're open for takeout, indoor dining, and outdoor dining. Dog-friendly. I made rezzies for Saturday at 5 pm but it wasn't needed because we were one of two tables until we left (there was a couple at the bar). If you slept on making dinner rezzies for your hot date and need a last minute place, Acopia may be a good option. Just come early. M E N U Elevated Modern Mexican menu curated by fine dining alums: Snacks, small plates, tacos, share plates, entrees, and dessert. HH Menu - Discounted drinks and snacks available Wednesday - Saturday, 5 pm - 6:30 pm, Sunday, all night. We wanted to take advantage of the HH deals in the patio but was told it's available at the bar only. This wasn't specified online or on their HH menu so I hope they consider adding in writing that HH is for the "bar only". D R I N K S * Dragones Silver ($22/shot x2): https://tinyurl.com/aknjeycj Top-notch, small-batch hella smooth sipping tequila. Not sure if they have highball ice cubes; if they did, I wished they used it to not dilute the tequila. F O O D * Ostiónes Asados: Broiled Oysters w/ chipotle mezcal butter, lime (4 pc-$15): https://tinyurl.com/mv88ws4f A good gateway for people squeamish about oysters since the dominating flavor is the smoky sweetness from the chipotle mezcal butter. * Costillas de Elote: Corn Ribs w/ mayo, queso fresco, chile salt, salsa macha ($10): https://tinyurl.com/4kp5by3y On trend and the best item of the night, the corn ribs had layers of flavor - a deliciously creamy and salty with a complex heat from the mayo, queso fresco, and salsa macha combo. * Tuétanos Asados En Su Hueso: Roasted Bone Marrow w/ pickled onions, cilantro, sea salt, nixtamalized handmade corn tortillas ($19): https://tinyurl.com/n2yw2yk2 Sadly, the bone marrow was overcooked so most of the beef butter had rendered. =( Nixtamalized tortillas are new to me - I love the rustic look and the nixtamalize corn (sounds labor intensive) gives the tortilla an earthy flavor and a softer texture. * Árabe: Lebanese spiced grilled pork, onions, cilantro crema, marinated cucumber ($6 each): https://tinyurl.com/2s3tjrf9 Sounded great on paper but the flavors were muted. I had to use the pickled onions from the bone marrow dish to make it pop. * Pipián Rojo Con Pato: Chile Adobo Duck Confit Leg w/ lemon-thyme masa cake, green peas, baby carrots, apricot-dijon demi ($29): https://tinyurl.com/4yv7kses The duck confit was fork tender, though I wished the skin was crispy. The pipián rojo (seed based) was savory and nutty like mole but more was needed to balance the tangy sweetness from the apricot-dijon (personal preference). The masa cake was savory, crispy, and soft...BUT the carrots. They were severely undercooked; i.e. raw. I picked one up to eat and heard a "crack" when I bit into it. I didn't think much of it at the time. However, when the alkie wore off two hours later, my tooth started to ache. Unfortunately, I ended up having to go an endodontist twice and had on/off tooth pain for 6 weeks. S E R V I C E Polite. We were one of two tables on an early Saturday evening so food service was very prompt. A M B I A N C E Very hip and trendy, the kind of resto you would find on Santana Row. Cute front patio with a handful of tables. It's completely open air. P A R K I N G Easy parking in their private lot. Overall, I had high hopes for Acopia but it was a mixed bag and fell short of expectations. Given all the raving reviews, I obvs visited on an off day. Love the owners' boldness in opening an upscale Modern Mexican restaurant on the east side so I wish them the best of luck!

Yelp
Delicious food and drinks. Kind of confusing when you walk in, there's no host table and there's a register at the bar, so it sort of looks like you order at the front. The bartender ignored me/gave me attitude when I asked if I was supposed to order with him. The hostess quickly came over to seat us after she noticed our exchange. Plenty of parking in the lot but kind of in the middle of nowhere. Prices are pretty high, especially for the area, but hopefully they stay in business and the area continues to get more nice restaurants.

Yelp
We had a fabulous meal at Acopio tonight! It is a beautiful hidden gem in downtown SJ. Our waitstaff was outstanding and guided us skillfully through the menu. We enjoyed the kampachi tostada, mushroom huarche (used to be tacos but they changed the tortillas to masa flatbread to avoid then get mushy), oysters (divine!), tacos de res, escabeche, and the gelatina for dessert. She took the time to explain different dishes and made appropriate conversation through our meal. Everything was fresh tasting and carefully crafted. Our cocktails were on point. A highlight was getting to meet the owner- she is delightful. We are looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu.

Yelp
The nicest Mexican restaurant I've been to. Was there during happy hour and tried the elote, papitas, kanpachi, aguachile, tomato toast, mole, ice cream bar, and churro. Enjoyed it all... especially the mole!

Yelp
Great service and atmosphere! Very kind staff and modern interior. Super nice place! Highly recommended! Delicious drinks and deserts.

Yelp
Nice ambience and service but the menu is not extensive and the food, though decent, is a bit overpriced. Hard to justify, given the tiny portions they serve in the middle of the grimy neighborhood, in the middle of nowhere. For a destination restaurant, a bit too much to ask its clientele who have so many other options -- i.e., Zona Rosa, Luna, Casa Villa, etc. -- elsewhere in San Jose.

Yelp
Worthy of a date night. Elevated contemporary Mexican cuisine. Service was excellent. My wife didn't enjoy her Mezcal cocktail (too smokey for her taste) and they swapped it no questions asked. I absolutely loved the tomato salad. Everything was executed with finesse, but not pretentious. My only complaint is I wish the Tres Leches dessert was slightly larger (thicker piece of cake). The tiny slice was lost with the crumble.

Yelp
What a modern take on Mexican food! This is a cozy little hidden gem near DTSJ. Honestly, I was mostly intrigued by their Happy Hour menu and needed to try it! Below is what we ordered: + Ostiónes En Su Concha (5/5): So fresh! The perfect brine and sweetness. Normally I'm not wow'd by Pacific Oysters, but these were great quality! Taste like they were shucked and served immediately. Definitely ask for the Cucumber Mint Raspado to top your oysters!! I loved these so much, I kept reordering more until I was full~ + Agua Frescas & Licores (5/5): I am a SUCKER for sandia aguas frescas... throw in some Mezcal... this concotion did not disappoint! Refreshing and incredibly sweet watermelon. $7 for happy hour is a great deal! + Costillas De Elote (3/5): These were pretty tasty. You can't go wrong with Oaxaca cheese, mayo, and chili oil on some corn! The presentation was well done. The chili oil was pretty flavorful and not too spicy! Honestly, it was just pretty pricey for what it was. It probably wasn't even an entire cob of corn. Even $7 for happy hour is too much for corn ribs.

Yelp
BEST FOOD EVER! Honestly can't wait to go back. My cousins and I went and ordered a little bit of everything. Glad we did bc I would taste one thing thinking wow, this is the best. Then I would try something else and BAM that was the best. And then over and over, how was the vegan cheese the best cheese ever?! Get it all, eat it all and to top it off, the drinks are great too. High five to them!

Yelp
Went here twice so far and the food taste is pretty consistent. Small menu choices but ingredients are fresh every time. They have plenty of outdoors seatings as well. Open seatings near the bar. Recommend to make reservations if you have a larger group and wants to sit inside instead of outside. Also, great happy hour menu choices if you make it there by 6pm. Food and drinks comes out quickly, but 1 star off since I have to wave for a server.

Yelp
I want to preface this by saying that the service was great and I have no complaints about the waitstaff at all. They were so friendly and helpful. I think this place is a victim of instagram hype, unfortunately. The pricing and the food did not match up in terms of taste/quality. We were left semi-full but unsatisfied after we left. Outdoor seating is not recommended at all. It's in the middle of a neighborhood with auto shops around the corner. The street is very busy with buses, angry drivers honking, and cars spewing exhaust. Parking was impossible on a Friday night. We parked about two and a half blocks down the road. The pork belly taco was mediocre. The pork belly was room temperature and dry, with very minimal seasoning, and a single piece of orange on each taco. No sides included. The flan was very bad. The texture was rubbery and it was overwhelmed with rum. The churro fell apart as we picked it up. It was undercooked and very mushy. (We got this one comped). It's in a neighborhood where so many authentic Mexican restaurants are around, that it's hard not to long for the real thing. It comes off as very pretentious and it seems like gentrification starting to creep in.

Yelp
We had walked into a random restaurant while strolling the area. El Alto closed down, so by the looks of it, the food seemed ok. we ordered: shrimp taco corn appetizer fresh oysters steak 12oz menu cocktails glass of wine beer Food: Overall, the food was not too bad. The first tortilla that came with the shrimp was a bit crispy and hard but charging 30 bucks for 4 pieces of regular shrimp. and i asked for salsa which they charged extra for. (which is fine but, they could have mentioned it) Corn was awesome. Try it. Oysters were fresh better than kings fish. Succulent, big, yummy! Steak- a bit dry. tough on the meat. I do think potatoes would be better. I ordered extra salsa .. what mexican does not have good legit salsa.. pico de gallo? no? which came with a side of tortillas (happened to be softer than the actual tortilla that came with the shrimp tacos...) I did not ask for tortillas but just salsa, so I was like what ever. But then the order came out to be charged for the salsa on the side and for the salsas and the tortillas for ten dollars.. That was okay. Didn't mind it too much. But then, I ordered the margarita. you cannot skip the margarita at a mexican restaurant! I asked the server for a skinny margarita which the bartender did not know what it was or didn't know how to make it. I would have expected them to ask the type of tequila prior to the order. But 20 dollars for a casa amigos margarita? I paid 25 dollars to make a margarita with don julio reposado at flemmings. The cocktail price should have been notified, but overall, it was ok. I was just a little confused about where some of the pricing comes from. Salsa should be noted to be extra on the menu. A reply back with "most restaurants with sour cream charge extra too." isnt the best response. Ambience is good. Bathrooms does not have paper towels.

Yelp
Have been meaning to try this place for some time, and went in last night (Wednesday) and really enjoyed it. First off, the service was fantastic. Several people interacted with us at different points - never overbearing - and all were absolutely friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. A+ on the service. Second, the cocktail list is really modern and creative, while still somehow feeling very traditionally Mexican. My partner had the Una Vez en la Playa - a very refreshing concoction of Mezcal, watermelon, lime and fennel. I had the La Fogata - a smoky and warm cocktail of Mezcal, bourbon, cinnamon syrup and black walnut bitters. Sort of turning an Old Fashioned on its head. Very good. We went all-in on too many starters - hey it wasn't just a Wednesday, it was my partner's Birthday! We started with the Tortillas de Casa, four fresh housemate tortillas and an array of accompaniments; queso fresco, whole black beans, chipotle salsa, and this amazingly fruity, sweet and spicy gooseberry salsa. More tortillas, please. Next we went through some napkins while nibbling on the Costillas de Elote, little street corn 'ribs'. Delicious, messy, and worth it. Finally we indulged in cheese...because CHEESE...with the Panela a la Plancha, a nice portion of panela cheese seasoned and grilled, and topped with the star of the dish - tomatillo jam. A solid and indulgent start to the evening, and all paired well with our cocktails. For our entrees, my partner had the Callos Incrustados con Chicharron - chicharron crusted scallops with a roasted poblano creme and baby fennel. Delicious bites, especially with all elements together. I feel the scallops could have been soaked/cleaned a little better, as I found them to have some grit. But they were very tasty. I had the Pipan Rojo con Pato, the confit duck leg with red mole and a seared masa cake. Incredibly tender, flavorful, and well-executed dish. My only issue with this one is that the dish was garnished with some peas - which seemed to distract from the other elements and had a similar texture to the deeply-roasted baby carrots. Leave the peas off and maybe throw some fresh herbs or micro greens on there instead. Overall, a great experience that we both enjoyed. Will most definitely return again.

Yelp
Truly high end Mexican. We especially loved the creative cheese platter. The duck confit mole was also outstanding. Very interesting cocktail list, too.
