Caviar service in E Man Jose?!
What the what?
I'll eat caviar if it's there but it's not something I appreciate enough to drop a Benjamin or two for an ounce.
But, if I did and if I was rich, I would be ALL over it....
Bring on those beluga bumps! To eat, not snort by the way.
It's a bold move in this part of town and I love that about Acopia.
Less than a year young, Acopio is the upscale sister restaurant to Taqueria Lorena's (been open for 30+ years!). They're open for takeout, indoor dining, and outdoor dining. Dog-friendly.
I made rezzies for Saturday at 5 pm but it wasn't needed because we were one of two tables until we left (there was a couple at the bar). If you slept on making dinner rezzies for your hot date and need a last minute place, Acopia may be a good option. Just come early.
M E N U
Elevated Modern Mexican menu curated by fine dining alums: Snacks, small plates, tacos, share plates, entrees, and dessert.
HH Menu - Discounted drinks and snacks available Wednesday - Saturday, 5 pm - 6:30 pm, Sunday, all night.
We wanted to take advantage of the HH deals in the patio but was told it's available at the bar only. This wasn't specified online or on their HH menu so I hope they consider adding in writing that HH is for the "bar only".

* Dragones Silver ($22/shot x2): https://tinyurl.com/aknjeycj
Top-notch, small-batch hella smooth sipping tequila. Not sure if they have highball ice cubes; if they did, I wished they used it to not dilute the tequila.

* Ostiónes Asados: Broiled Oysters w/ chipotle mezcal butter, lime (4 pc-$15): https://tinyurl.com/mv88ws4f
A good gateway for people squeamish about oysters since the dominating flavor is the smoky sweetness from the chipotle mezcal butter.
* Costillas de Elote: Corn Ribs w/ mayo, queso fresco, chile salt, salsa macha ($10): https://tinyurl.com/4kp5by3y
On trend and the best item of the night, the corn ribs had layers of flavor - a deliciously creamy and salty with a complex heat from the mayo, queso fresco, and salsa macha combo.
* Tuétanos Asados En Su Hueso: Roasted Bone Marrow w/ pickled onions, cilantro, sea salt, nixtamalized handmade corn tortillas ($19): https://tinyurl.com/n2yw2yk2
Sadly, the bone marrow was overcooked so most of the beef butter had rendered. =( Nixtamalized tortillas are new to me - I love the rustic look and the nixtamalize corn (sounds labor intensive) gives the tortilla an earthy flavor and a softer texture.
* Árabe: Lebanese spiced grilled pork, onions, cilantro crema, marinated cucumber ($6 each): https://tinyurl.com/2s3tjrf9
Sounded great on paper but the flavors were muted. I had to use the pickled onions from the bone marrow dish to make it pop.
* Pipián Rojo Con Pato: Chile Adobo Duck Confit Leg w/ lemon-thyme masa cake, green peas, baby carrots, apricot-dijon demi ($29): https://tinyurl.com/4yv7kses
The duck confit was fork tender, though I wished the skin was crispy. The pipián rojo (seed based) was savory and nutty like mole but more was needed to balance the tangy sweetness from the apricot-dijon (personal preference).
The masa cake was savory, crispy, and soft...BUT the carrots. They were severely undercooked; i.e. raw. I picked one up to eat and heard a "crack" when I bit into it. I didn't think much of it at the time. However, when the alkie wore off two hours later, my tooth started to ache. Unfortunately, I ended up having to go an endodontist twice and had on/off tooth pain for 6 weeks.

Polite.
We were one of two tables on an early Saturday evening so food service was very prompt.

Very hip and trendy, the kind of resto you would find on Santana Row. Cute front patio with a handful of tables. It's completely open air.

Easy parking in their private lot.
Overall, I had high hopes for Acopia but it was a mixed bag and fell short of expectations. Given all the raving reviews, I obvs visited on an off day. Love the owners' boldness in opening an upscale Modern Mexican restaurant on the east side so I wish them the best of luck!
