COVID-related: I wore a mask into the tasting room, others didn't. The staff all wore masks, which I appreciated. Obviously masks off while tasting was fine. Indoors only (which was great for the chilly weather), as far as I could tell, in case that affects your decision to come or not.
I stopped by Acquiesce on NYE, and while my experience wasn't majorly bad in any way, it also didn't stand out to me in any particular way.
One plus was unexpected food pairings--maybe I missed that on their website (and I guess by divulging this info via this review, you won't have the surprise and delight of unexpected food--sorry, haha). The pairings were all nice, although I did feel like the black-eyed peas for NYE were a nice, intentional touch for the occasion but maybe a bit heavy for the 2019 Picpoul Blanc, which was lighter on my palate than I expected.
I did buy a bottle of the 2019 Bourboulenc, since they said they were the first vineyard to grow this variety in the US. I did like the sharpness, and I picked up on some of the mango notes.
I didn't find the 2020 Grenache Rose to stand out, although I am also not usually a rose drinker, and I did find the 2020 Grenache Blanc to be quite light-bodied, as advertised (although I struggled to pick up on the floral notes).
The pours were all quite generous, which I appreciated!
I will say I felt a bit awkward (both inherently, and by external atmosphere/vibe) going wine tasting here solo. I know it's usually a group activity, and the group next to me sounded like they were having a great time, bantering with the server. I was also looking for a place I could settle in read a book, and they were just busy enough that I didn't feel like that would be appropriate/didn't want to hog the table. I was curious if I could explore the grounds but didn't ask.
I will note that Wendy was really nice and offered great service!
Overall, if I'm in the mood for a white wine, I may stop by again, since I do appreciate a winery that specializes in something unique for the area, but it wouldn't be my first pick, generally.
