"This Metairie Mediterranean favorite expanded to Freret Street in 2019 and the neighborhood approves. Acropolis is known for its traditional Greek cooking — along with a smattering of Italian dishes and pizza. Nibble through an appetizer sample of dips and spinach pie and move on to the signature six-onion soup, served under a puff pastry cap. Salads, pita wraps, and platters of savory grilled meats and vegetables round out the menu." - Beth D'Addono

"If you find yourself in Uptown after lunch, Wayfare is the perfect place to go for that mid-afternoon meal that becomes way more common when you’re on vacation. It’s a great spot to split a nice bottle wine and eat some house-made cured meats, but they also serve a great lineup of sandwiches, with everything from an eggplant banh mi to a bacon jam-topped burger. For us though, the best time to stop here is during their daily Happy Hour from 3pm - 6pm when all drinks and appetizers are half off. photo credit: Jakob Layman" - Team Infatuation

Google
Such a great coolinary menu! The wine, the food options, the customer service! It was delicious. And inexpensive. We chose a Greek wine and it was perfectly paired with our meal. The server gave us great suggestions for food and we tried a little bit of everything from the menu. Definitely worth stopping by!

were do i began ? so happy i went here. i’m a local, and i’ve passed this spot a few times because my partner is picky, however one stroll, we were sold at the $2 mimosas but be mindful it’s only on certain days & times! (cheap champagne but hey what do you expect for $2, enjoy) they do close at 2p and re open. compliments to the chefs / you can witness prepare your choice. fresh fresh ingredients. welcoming staff and establishment. loved the variety of music, food, and culture. huge bar selection. we got a few apps, and since we were so early they couldn’t prepare one of the entrees but we are determined to get back here and try out the rosemary chicken dish, and the one they set on fire! handicap accessible. on street parking.

Google
Such a lovely place to live the lovely Greek life of Louisiana. The food is pleasantly paired and presented. The music at weekend brunch fills with happy loving atmosphere. Dancing is permitted so long as you’re not a fall down drunk and love making people feel welcome and blessed. Mystiha was a very pleasant band! Opa!!!

Google
A very delicious intersection of southern seafood and Greek history. Worth a special trip.

Google
Cozy restaurant with a fun atmosphere. The food is delicious - I had a Greek salad which was so plentiful I was able to share it with my husband. His dish was one of their daily specials, an amazing fish skewered with veggies, delicious! Some of our friends had the lasagna which we will get next time. They have a great cocktail menu with some “must try” concoctions that were great and potent. We highly recommend this place!

Google
Great selection at the bar. The food came out really quick and tasted great.

I usually do not leave reviews but I do feel as though this is worth mentioning. Upon arrival to the restaurant, the initial host was not friendly at all... I placed my order to go with another hostess and was sitting at a vacant table awaiting my take out order. After about 7 minutes or so, I was asked to get up from the table due to another customer arriving (after me) that was wanting to dine in for their food. I was publicly embarrassed by having to get up and then not being offered anywhere to go or sit while I continued to wait for my prepaid order. All I received was a quiet apology for the nuisance and my order. This place has no accommodations for if you come in and order food to go. I was never offered anything due to the public embarrassment and for the inconvenience. I have never experienced such poor customer service in my life and I have no clue if it is due to my race (non-white) but It was extremely rude and off-putting so much so that the hostess apologized several times for requesting me to move from the vacant seating area where I was sitting. If you offer take out services than you should have take out accommodations and not embarrass paying consumers due to the lack of accommodations you offer in your restaurant. The food is ok but not worth being publicly humiliated and made to feel as though I'm a second class citizen.

Yelp
Food was good but service was a bit slow. We got there when it first opened but the dinning room filled up quick. Recommend getting there before the lunch rush. The coolinary menu was plentiful but flavors were just ok. I definitely recommend the sampler and the 6 onion soup. Both delicious. Everything else was a little dry like it had been sitting under a heat lamp.

Yelp
What great lunch get away from the crowds ! If you want to skip NEW ORLEANS for a day go to the Acropolis. We just had the gyros but would partake in the special board fir dinner when we want more to eat.

Tiffany B.

Yelp
This place was so good I went here twice on a 3 day trip lol. I love that it's open late and conveniently located on my way back to Wyhndam La Belle Maison, which is where I always stay. I ordered the gyro plate both times because I wanted rice so it was the best value. If you like Greek food it's a must try.

Yelp
I am so excited that Acropolis opened up on Freret! We were lucky enough to snag a parking spot right at the front door which always makes me happy, and our entire visit followed suit. We were warmly welcomed by an employee working behind the gorgeous, huge bar area. Y'all, this place is so cool. It's huge, open, and I love that the chairs are mismatched at each table. The artwork and paint colors of the space remind me so much of my long ago visit to Greece. (Santorini) On this visit my husband ordered the pork slouvaki wrap and I had a gyro wrap. We both chose the grilled veggies as our sides, then when our food arrived we halved the wraps so we had one of each. Both wraps were delicious! The gyro had so much meat that I actually took some off! And the pork - good night!!!! It was so flavorful and left me wanting more. Let's not forget about the veggies. They were so well seasoned, and I ate every last piece of broccoli and zucchini on my plate. My only disappointment was that I could swear that there are always carrots in the veggie mix at the Veterans location and there were none in this batch. Maybe I'm mistaken, though. Either way, the food was awesome. I can't forget to mention the service. From beginning to end our service was top notch. Every employee that we encountered was bright and cheerful, attentive, and super efficient.

Yelp
What a fantastic lunch! My coworker and i decided we wanted a lunch that might definitely put us asleep. Lol. This new location is very spacious with cool decor. Theres a seperate bar area for quick seating as well. They have a pretty good lunch menu..we started with stuffed grape leaves...sunshine in my mouth. We eagerly moved on to..wait for IT...MOUSSAKA. if ur not familiar..this is a sort of greek lasagna style dish with layers og eggplant, potato, ground veal and seasonings. The portion was big enough for me to take home leftovers. I left feeling like i had for sure committed the sin of gluttony..not thr worst of the sins so i was ok with it. Already planning a return visit for more gluttonous debauchery. OPA!

Yelp
I haven't been to original Acropolis in Metairie in years, so I was really pleased to see that they were opening another location in the old Wayfare spot. I went over with my uncle for dinner last week and he reminisced about going to the original in Metairie when in first opened. I opted for a four course special for $20.95 and it was a great deal for the amount of food. I had cauliflower bisque to start then a Caesar salad and then grilled pompano and finally baklava for dessert. The soup was rich and delicious. The Caesar was fine and the grilled pompano was delicious plus I had pilaf and veg of the day to take home. My uncle and I split the baklava which was good. He had lamb kebabs because "he always has the lamb when going to Greek restaurants." Service was good and the space hasn't changed much from when it was Wayfare. Great addition to Freret Street.

Yelp
People we knew recommended the restaurant. Based on their comments, my wife and I decided to go last Wednesday night with another couple. After being seated, we started looking at the daily specials board and the wine list. The wine list was impressive with a nice selection of Greek and Lebanese wines along with the usual American wines we expect to see. They have a choice of good dozen wine flights or you can order by the bottle. I talked with the owner and she recommended a red Lebanese blend that would go with the meals we were interested in. I ordered a bottle after trying a sample. Good choice. My wife decided we would have the fried eggplant appetizer after agonizing over whether to get the grape leaves. For dinner I ordered the stuffed bell peppers from the Specials board while my wife had the gyro wrap off the menu. The other couple ordered a blackened redfish and the stuffed peppers, both from the Specials board. The dinners came with a Caesar salad with the homemade dressing. After tasting mine, my wife ordered a side salad as one did not some with the wrap. To wrap up the evening my wife and I split a serving of baklava. The food and the service were great. All in all, a very enjoyable evening. We are already making plans to bring other friends here for dinner so were can another daily special.

Yelp
First time here and have to tell you, love this place. The ambiance, the service, the drinks and the food. Great specials by the way. The sweet potato soup with blue cheese crumbles is amazing. Service is great thanks to Patricia. We attentive, considerate and overall great. My new goto joint for Greek cuisine...

Christopher W.

Yelp
Sadly my foodies group returned to Acropolis and though we know it's a tough time for restaurants I must admit the food and service here has suffered. With most restaurants losing their staff service is expected to be not what it used to but the food quality has no excuse. The mousaka was a smaller portion and was pretty tasteless. Anytime I had to add salt it's a problem. The gyro my friends had was awful and over cooked. Another friend had the catfish special which was good but the sauce was old and overly thick. It's a shame because this was a great spot that had the closest thing to authentic Greek. Seems like things changed when it was no longer afiliated with Acropolis in Metry. At the end of the night they would let us do separate checks, it was only a group of 7. This is the second time we've eaten and the restaurant didnt tell us in front. Never Again.

Anna F.

Yelp
Great service and some yummy food with flaws. I was seated immediately when I came in at 7pm on a Wednesday and the bartenders were lovely, very nice and attentive to me. The food came out incredibly fast. I ordered stuffed grape leaves and rice pilaf. The grape leaves were great but the pilaf was so salty i couldnt eat it all. A little overpriced for the qualiity and amount. They advertised a $20 four course dish and a happy hour so mmaybe i'll go back for that.

Samantha G.

Yelp
This was my second time here! Everything I have had has been delicious, but I ordered Moussaka this time which I love! However, the Moussaka here was not good. The sauce tasted like white gravy and I only took a couple of bites. Personally would not recommend as I've had plenty of Moussaka and this was not good. I'm giving four stars because everything else I have had was great. The Six Onion Soup is a must. Has a great creamy flavor and delicious huge puff pastry on top.

Tristen W.

Yelp
I stopped in here for a quick lunch with a friend, and we seated very quickly. We both ordered the Gyro Wrap, which comes with a side, so I ordered fries as well. The wrap was pretty tasty, but I thought the gyro meat was a bit dry. However, the fries were delicious and well-seasoned! Our server was also very attentive and friendly. The cocktails also looked very tasty, and I look forward to trying them soon along with more of the food!

Shannon S.

Yelp
Acropolis has been serving me great Greek food for many years out of their location on Vets and this new (and much larger) second location has taken over the former Wayfare space on Freret Street. This new location also has a much larger bar area which should go well with the Freret Street scene. The staff is still very new and getting their routine down but overall things seem to be running decently smoothly for a brand new restaurant. I look forward to enjoying their delicious fish specials and other great food at this much nearer location to me.

Bobbie W.

Yelp
Went with friends tonight and so happy with the experience. Food was even better than at visit ever! Our server, Symphony, was just THE BEST!! So happy that Acropolis is on Freret!!

Dana P.

Yelp
We just had the most amazing dinner! Gyros and everything else was amazing! The bartender made the very best old fashioned ! And our sever, Bella, was just perfect! Thank you!

Marcia W.

Yelp
New opening on Freret street taking over Wayfair's spot! And what a spectacular addition to our stopping ground with High Hat, and Ancora, just to name a few within the block radius. We went on a Friday night, 20 min wait for four and we were able to get a high top in the bar area while we waited. WAIT! A 20 min WAIT on Freret street! Yup...Acropolis has joined the elite status of having a waiting list like High Hight. We were sat within a few min. The hummus a babaganoush were stellar. We ordered the 4 course special- soup, salad, main course then choice of dessert. I had the veal cannalonie with the sweet potato soup, Caesar salad and bread pudding. Delicious everything was and the marinara to die for. King Estate Pinot Noir was dry the Bottle went down quite smoothly. Acropolis is a huge welcome addition to Freret street and it was so impressive, I went back to the next day to test out their calamari. That to me is a deal breaker and they didn't disappoint. It was light and crispy without too much breading. Not rubbery and great flavor with a deep flavor marinara sauce! I have had calamari from New York, to Asia...one of the simply best. Looking forward to trying their lamb...another true favorite and ready.

David C.

Yelp
Great Greek spot located in uptown. I've only eaten takeout and all three times it was great

Nicole R.

Yelp
I was devastated when I learned that Wayfair had closed but hopeful for the future of that spot when I learned that acropolis was opening in it's place. We popped in for lunch and I got the Gyro. It was okay not the best. I really did enjoy the veggies that came as my side, they were roasted to perfection. We ended off with baklava that was pretty good. Overall I would say it was okay have had better "middle eastern" cuisine in the city but not completely against going back there again. I do think the 4 course dinner special they do is pretty good

Geo M.

Yelp
Both indoors and outdoors dining. While visiting NOLA nine months ago, our daughter recommended that we eat here. We ate outdoors, and the experience was terrific. Great meals and appetizers (and my wife rarely says this). Our daughter liked the beer selection. When we were there, the owner stopped by. She often works there, and she is delightfully knowledgeable and chatty, and respectful enough to back off if desired. A casual atmosphere; servers were courteous and knowledgeable, and we were not rushed. Then, we re-visited NOLA a few weeks ago. Acropolis on Ferret was the only restaurant that we re-visited.

Steve B.

Yelp
Wonderful service with great food. We have eaten at the Metairie location but this is our first experience on Freret, definitely won't be our last! CJ you've got a winner!

Nola B.

Yelp
Bartender Super nice but uhm yea the back staff Italian female with glasses nahhhh! I see how they get you the cheap drinks specials. I ended up there due to the place near by being closed and needed a bite to eat. They were super slow maybe 5 guests but yet I waited long for food and ended up buying a couple drinks leaving and eating near by. I would say not to go my advise : ( I would hate to think it's because of my skin color but all dollars are the same color

Cynthia C.

Yelp
Acropolis is Metairie is a favorite, so I was excited to hear they were opening a second location in the former Wayfare spot in restaurant row on Freret. The decor is similar to the old Wayfair - industrial/warehouse chic. The menu is very similar to the Metairie spot with a few additions. Bar selection is ample with some specialty cocktails. My friend remarked that the Sazerac was one of the best she has had. Food is the same great quality as the other location. We split a fish wrap and saganaki and both were great. Service was the best part with extremely friendly, knowledgeable staff. I love seeing a great spot and family owned restaurant grow like this.

Jessica D.

Yelp
My husband and I attended the soft opening tonight, and we were blown away by how beautiful the space is. Both the dining and bar area are filled with beautiful art, including a mural at the entrance. Of course, we knew the food and service would be amazing because of our experiences at the original location in Metairie. Our table ordered the veal parmesan, moussaka, onion soup, appetizer sampler, saganaki, and calamari. Unfortunately, we were too busy eating up all that delicious food to think about taking pictures. As always, the portions were generous, and almost everything was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend checking out the thirty beers on tap in the bar area. I was happy to see that New Orleans is finally getting a good mediterranean restaurant, elated to know that it is Acropolis, and over-the-moon that there are so many good drink options. I tried NOLA brewery's Darkest Before Dawn, and was not disappointed!

Fabrizi O.

Yelp
Not sure how this place managed to get a 4.5-star overall rating. Our first (and only) visit left us scratching our heads why a place stays busy despite lackluster food quality. Acropolis, are you ready for some tough love? Here goes: 1. That's not Caesar salad dressing. It's ranch! (Taste it) 2. Baba ganoush should not look like a brown blob served with an ice cream scoop. What is that stuff, really? (Tastes like "nothing") 3. WHY... WHY would you make your marinara sauce with BEEF STOCK and then serve it atop the VEGETARIAN PIZZA? 4. How dry can you possibly cook a pork chop? Pretty damn dry, it turns out. Almost needed sharper knife and stronger arms to tackle it. 5. Serving the baked potato with ultra-cold butter (so cold, it never melted) only makes for a cold potato, no? 6. Guess what... the "garlic and potato soup" is really... "potato soup". Nary a hint of garlic here. And I remember the original recipe so fondly from your Veterans location that this change really let me down. Sorry, fellas. We won't be back.

R L.

Yelp
Recently we have eaten here 2 times. Both times the food was Delicious!!! Very fresh ingredients. Friendly and attentive staff. Daily drink specials. Appetizer sampler is a very good way to start your meal. All of the wraps and salads are Highly Recommended. Will be returning soon!!!

Zach V.

Yelp
Attended the soft opening. Service was speedy and spot-on. Food was generous in portion size and delicious in preparation. So glad to have good Greek/Mediterranean in the Uptown area. AOF is a welcome addition to the Freret scene. Highly recommend trying out the specialty cocktail menu.

Amanda W.

Yelp
Went on Sunday for an early dinner and was very impressed. Service was fast and thorough. Ordered grape leaves to start. Then we had a gyro and fish wrap. Was super reasonably priced and the food was bomb. Definitely will be back and glad to have a new option on Freret.

Alula A.

Yelp
I live very close to Freret St and have never liked Wayfare, so I was excited to see that a slightly ritzy Greek restaurant had recently opened. I got lunch at Acropolis on Lundi Gras, and it wasn't too busy. I went with a group of three people. Our server was great and so was the food. I don't think I've seen another Greek restaurant in New Orleans that serves Saganaki, so props for that. Two of us ordered wraps, which tasted great because the meat was well seasoned. There was far too much lettuce though, which made them hard to eat without making a mess. I would have given Acropolis 4 stars if it weren't for their stingy approach to pita bread. We shared an appetizer sampler with sizeable portions of hummus, baba ganoush, and tzatziki, which are obviously all dishes that require pita. However, they only gave us 6 small pieces of pita bread. When the three of us asked for more, they again gave us 6 small pieces of pita. We weren't going to force our server to keep running back and forth to get more, so we just ate the rest of the appetizers with our spoons. They didn't charge us for the second serving of pita, which would have been ridiculous, but the management here needs to decide if they're going to simply give people enough pita with each dish or charge for it. I think at this price point, including a larger serving of pita will have more of an effect on customer satisfaction than it will on their margins.

Brian O.

Yelp
damn fine food; pleasant atmosphere; good services; accommodating management. Being a Greek food nut, I can report this is the genuine stuff.

Debora H.

Yelp
Wonderful spot for a traditional Med dinner. We shared the appetizer sampler - spanikopita, hummus, babaganoush, tzatziki with pita. This is a Greek presentation of these dishes, so a bit chunky, and good flavor. We also had the calamari appetizer, which was good but I eat a lot of calamari and have had better, but the batter was lighter here and served with marinara instead of tartar. The drinks were an Old Fashioned, quite yummy, & LaLouisianne, a twist on a Vieux Carre, and so smooth! Seriously, I'd go here for the signature cocktails and the fabulous whisky collection but the food and service were incredible!

Beth P.

Yelp
Wait staff extremely unfriendly. Not worth the money. Very strange way to run a business. We will not be returning.

Lori B.

Yelp
The food is very good. The specialty drinks are excellent. I love the blackberry bourbon freeze! The staff is always friendly. I will definitely return

Daphne M.

Yelp
Meh. The good: house fries seemed to have Greek seasoning, tasty. The roasted zucchini and shredded carrots were delicious. The bad: The roasted broccoli were solid black. The artichoke soup I ordered turned out to be a weird chunky potato cream soup with a one note of cayenne. Ugh. The mediocre: the gyro sandwich has what I suspect was pre-cut food-service gyro meat with sauce on the bottom 1/8 of the wrap. We wondered why we had not just had some of the frozen Trader Joe's for dinner. It would have been more enjoyable...

Mark B.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere they even had live music when I went last time

Calvert R.

Yelp
The food was fresh and very tasty. Service was excellent and staffed by some of the friendliest and accommodating people that I met while in New Orleans. Definitely will visit again the next chance I get.

Dara H.

Yelp
I love this place. The staff is so friendly, the atmosphere is lovely and the food is fresh, healthy and delish! My husband and I have been twice and will make it a regular dinner stop.

Kirk M.

Yelp
Has gone way downhill. Staff is very crabby and slow. Disappear for 20 minutes for no reason. Food is not cheap and there is no excuse for such horrible service. Management doesn't seem to care. And staff wasn't wearing masks when we went. Never again.

Kari A.

Yelp
Delicious!!!!!!!!!! Not sure why I waited so long. I ordered take out but the tables out front are adorable, the inside is very nice. Clean! Friendly service! Fresh and delicious!

Richard B.

Yelp
Unfortunately multiple staff members do not wear their masks (on chin - not covering mouth or nose). The tables are not socially distanced. It is only a matter of time before they have an outbreak. So I will not be returning until after the pandemic is over. The food is delicious and the food deserves 5 stars. Kind of sad that they are not taking this pandemic seriously.

Barry V.

Yelp
My dinner date was fun and relaxed. The restaurant is locally owned so everyone should visit! The service was superb, even owner and wife came by to say hi! The food was fabulous and they had some great specials too. Whether a date, business meal or friends and family you will love it and add it to your list of favorites!

Paul K.

Yelp
Five stars for the meal, negative four for complete ripoff on drinks. A double Eagle Rare bourbon ran me $30... no price mention on the menu. You can get a whole bottle for less than that! Acropolis surely paid less than that from a wholesaler. Again, food tasted great, but I left quite peeved at the price gouging.

Sandy H.

Yelp
Cozy and welcoming atmosphere, delicious food. We really enjoy this place every time we go!

Lisa D.

Yelp
The staff is so hit or miss. When its bad, its bad. Won't ever come back to the table, won't refile drinks, won't bring checks. Lots of eye rolling and "whatever." Food definitely not worth the attitude. Also, no one checked for vaccine cards despite law in New Orleans. We we not be going back.

Kenneth E.

Yelp
The service was great and the wraps are fantastic . The humans and pita bread are not to be missed. Will be coming back.

Amber ..

Yelp
I came to this restaurant on New Years Eve to celebrate my birthday and the service was impeccable. I'm not a big wine drinker, but my friends were ordering wine flights and since I wasn't sure what I like, they were incredibly helpful in guiding me towards which one might be a good fit for me! Not only was the service great, but the food was immaculate and the atmosphere was incredible. Normally, I don't return to restaurants when I go into New Orleans because I like to try different ones each time, but this is one that I see myself returning to over and over and one that I'll be recommending from now on.

Mandi W.

Yelp
Mediocre food. Super rude owner. Sat at the bar and he ranted to us the whole time about how "no one wants to work anymore" and how the pandemic has weeded out the "bad workers" and has left only him and a couple other guys as the people in this industry that "get it". His idea of a good worker must be those he can exploit for low wages amidst a pandemic. I won't be giving him any more business.

Kristen O.

Yelp
Great brunch! I got the falafel (super delicious! moist instead of too gritty just how I like it) and my boyfriend got the croissant sandwich which was incredible, gyro meat is unreal in a breakfast format! That plus 2 bottomless sangrias (why is this not a brunch staple!!!) was still less than 30 a person. Great cheaper option for boozy delicious brunch in Tulane area!

Shelley T.

Yelp
We've brought our dogs here twice now, for dinner and brunch, and everyone is so nice and sweet to the doggos. Food is delicious. Greek omelette and pancakes were so yum. They have an easy to access touchless menu with QR code. Very impressed by the courteous staff. Hope to be regulars here!

Sheila Y.

Yelp
Rarely do I post negative reviews but this experience was the worst. To begin with they did not adhere to the city's mandate of checking COVID cards. I know should have been a red flag. Next we're told they can not make us anything fried? Ok so on to the spinach cheese pie appetizer. It came out soggy absolutely no cheese and some kind of strange dough with just essentially wilted spinach. Two bites was all I could handle. Next up gyros wraps that arrived on ice cold pita bread. Had rice pilaf as a side which was just plain rice. All of this and we were one of three tables so it wasn't like the place was crazy busy. A management type person was walking around without a mask on the entire time when we registered a complaint about the food quality with our server she shared it with him and he seemed to find humor in it. No apologies. If you really know and appreciate Mediterranean food avoid this place!
