Ad Maiora - Review - Northern Quarter - Manchester - The Infatuation

"You can forgive the hanging fake parma ham legs in this Italian sandwich spot run by Manchester City fans (one of their specials is called Haaland’s), because Ad Maiora is serious about focaccia. We’re talking high-grade olive oil, slow fermentation, pleasing dimples, slightly crunchy on the outside, cushiony inside. This exceptional bread is generously stuffed, New York Italian deli-style, so you more than get your money’s worth. Whether you chomp it down on one of the few stools by the window, or take one with you to enjoy in a quieter, greener spot outside of the Northern Quarter, there isn’t a better lunch option when sauntering around the city. Customisation is an option, but the Colosseo is a winner. Parma ham, basil, mayo, tomatoes, rocket, and mozzarella, if you like, but you’d be mad not to upgrade to buffalo, which has a lactic sweetness that lifts everything. Even diehard Manchester United fans might find themselves crossing enemy lines. photo credit: Tajda Ferko" - Joel Hart

Oh my days! Expected good things after being recommended but it far outweighed my expectations! The friendly welcome, the smell, the ambience was just right The sandwich I chose was simply outstanding, the freshest ingredients piled high and made with care. Their own bread is a thing of real beauty, soft, crispy , salty heaven! I can’t praise this place enough, it’s how a small business should be and deserves the support of the whole city!!! Belissimo!!!!!

While strolling through the lively Northern Quarter, we stumbled upon Ad Maiora, a charming Italian sandwich shop that immediately caught our eye. It turned out to be a delightful discovery. The sandwiches here are generous to say the least two were more than enough for the four of us to share, and every bite was full of authentic flavour. What truly made the visit memorable, however, was the warm hospitality. The owner is originally from Sardinia, and his son Erico welcomed us with such friendliness. We enjoyed chatting with him about our travels in Sardinia, and to our surprise, he gifted us a packet of semolina pasta from his homeland - a thoughtful gesture that made our visit even more special. The only slight disappointment was that the coffee machine was out of order on the day, so we had to pop elsewhere for our caffeine fix. But this minor hiccup didn't take away from the overall experience. If you're in Manchester and looking for hearty, authentic Italian sandwiches served with genuine Sardinian warmth, Ad Maiora is well worth a stop.

Travelled one hour from Yorkshire. Paid £4 to park for one hour Waited in total 35 minutes from ordering to waiting O M G I knew I should've ordered two sandwiches!!! Expensive? Very! Was it worth, oh yes! The sandwiches are big!!! They work out as two sandwiches, as i shared with my other half it worked out like £7 a sandwich which is very reasonable. Taking in to amount the ingredients are sourced from Italy. Super busy take away on a Saturday 2.300m afternoon. I have not stop thinking about this place and I have woken up today trying to work out when I have time to go back down for another one! Ps the make your own sandwich... Sauces are counted as a ingredient, so bear that in mind

High-quality bread and great flavours, but the balance was off. The sandwich had so much meat that I had to remove nearly half just to eat it, which felt like such a waste. It would be great if there were an option to choose a lighter portion of meat — the quality deserves better balance.

WOW! Absolutely delicious sandwiches! My only complaint is the sandwiches should be cut in half. My veggie Nonna was packed full, it was very messy to eat because it was so big. I will always grab a sandwich for our train journey home from Ad Maiora but I’ll make sure I pick up some napkins too 😋

A lovely, high-quality Italian deli with a small but expertly curated menu. The flavor combinations are spot-on, and every item feels thoughtfully put together. The sandwiches are generously filled—great value for money—and absolutely delicious. The staff are warm and welcoming, creating a relaxed atmosphere that's perfect for enjoying a great lunch indoors. I could easily eat here every day.

If you’re looking for a 10/10 Italian sandwich and 10/10 customer service then this is the place. I’ve been every week for the past three weeks as it was so good the first time. The most amazing fresh bread combined with quality fillings, their weekday meal deals are hard to beat and their specials are unbelievable. The staff as well go above and beyond for their craft and their customers, they are the nicest people ever. Thank you!!

Their schiacciata is amazing. We tried the best sellers Colosseo and Regina and they were both really good. The portion is quite big too. And they had a great deal as it was a weekday with a drink included. Staff is nice as well. Definitely a place to visit again
