Adair Downtown Has Breakfast Through Cocktail Hour Covered - Eater Houston

"Today is opening day for Adair Downtown, a new restaurant from the minds behind Adair Kitchen, Eloise Nichols Grill, Bebidas, and Skeeters Mesquite Grill. This time, Adair Concepts is poised to capture the hearts of downtown workers with this looker of a restaurant located at Wells Fargo Plaza at 1000 Louisiana Street. The 4,628-square-foot Adair Downtown is modeled after a classic American bistro, with lots of subway tile and marble floors as envisioned by Gensler Architects and Houston-based McGarr Design & Interiors. The sun-lit restaurant is divided into four zones that offer something for everybody throughout the workday: there’s a coffee bar stocked pastries and juices; a dining room serving breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks; a cocktail bar with an outdoor patio; and a grab-and-go market selling food, cards, and gifts. On the menu, diners will find Adair Kitchen favorites like lemon artichoke soup or kale and quinoa bowls. But Executive Chef Roberto Ozaeta also whipped up new dishes exclusive to Adair Downtown like a beef tenderloin crostini, a tuna tartare, chicken paillard, a Thai salad, and an avocado-chorizo toast. Adair Downtown is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m." - Adele Chapin

I work very close to this place and I enjoy their lunch on almost a weekly basis. Coffee and breakfast options are great as well. I do wish they took a few reservations at lunch for when we have people meeting here for a business lunch. I have not tried their HH/bar yet but it’s large. I catered a lunch there a few weeks ago and was very disappointed in the assorted sandwiches. For $60 it was 12 half sandwiches and they were all pretty terrible. I had never had anything bad here before but these were just not good. The sandwiches were like what your mom made you for school lunch. Really underwhelming. The harvest salad was amazing has always.

Nice restaurant in the tunnels of Houston Downton. Can also be accessed from the street level. Bright and airy place with nice ambiance. Good reasonably priced meals and good service at lunch time. Looked like there was a take out area too.

Google
Dining in was MUCH tastier than the takeout I’d had the day before for a catered corporate lunch. The beef dip was very tasty, good bun and au jus. The yam fries were also crispy yet substantial. The salads are good value with lots of things in them. Service was quite slow but it’s slammed at lunch hour.

Google
Great spot for healthy lunch options downtown. Can’t go wrong with anything you order, it’s all good. I had the Salmon Superfoods bowl and it was really good and satisfying.

Google
We enjoyed it. It has reasonably priced items for the area. Food is good, service is good. Bar is on point. We would return.

Google
I ordered a dish off their weekly specials menu and was quite satisfied with how it tasted. I believe it was pasta served in their house-made marinara sauce with vodka. The marinara was creamy rather than acidic which I enjoyed very much. The steak was pretty tender and seasoned well. The food left me fulfilled. Can't wait to try the other dishes the next time I come here.

I recently tried Adair’s downtown and thought the food and service were good. I had the turkey club with a side salad and it was good. Service was friendly and prompt but it’s a little pricy for a working stiff but they do have a take out menu which saves the tip part of the bill. Speaking of the menu, it is pretty small but seems to have a reasonable variety. I’m not sure about dietary options such as gluten free, etc but I would suspect they can accommodate these. Although I did not go for happy hour, they seem to have a solid assortment of high end liquors. Maybe I’ll try it some time.

Tried this for the first time and I'm obsessed with their salads! It's my go to now once a week! Highly recommend...

Yelp
Intro: Before a performance at Alley Theatre, we stopped by Adair Downtown for an early dinner. I'm familiar with Adair from their restaurant in the Galleria area so I was excited to check out this location. It's a little tough to find as it's in the basement of a skyscraper but we figured it out. Ambiance (4/5): Dining in a basement can be fun too. You'll see the modern, fresh decor that you're used to at Adair here too. It's a nice dining experience. Service (5/5): We had a fantastic waitress. We were in a time crunch and she took care of us promptly and efficiently. With a smile on her face. This is the type of service all restaurants should strive for. Drinks (3.5/5): I had a bottled fresh juice which is always a nice touch. Just a little pricey. Food (4/5): I had the burger with fries and this is a solid burger y'all. The fries were crisp and flavorful. It was a generous portion. And the burger was cooked well with a fresh bun and all of the usual additions. It filled me just in time for the show. Overall: If you're looking for a good spot prior to a show in the theater district, your options are going to be limited. Adair Downtown makes for a fine choice.

Yelp
10 STARS!! Wow! I truly enjoy this restaurant as it has in my opinion some of the best & most genuine wait staff, cooks, and management! Plus the atmosphere is perfect for lunch or a drink at the stunning bar. The food is delicious and the manager Lena (Elena) does a fantastic job running this restaurant. She is alway helping the waitstaff clean and clear tables while also greeting customers. The waitstaff is top notch and as I have gotten to know some of them better over the months.. Arlyne & Cris are so nice and fun to talk with, but also great knowing the menu, and making sure you get great service! This is how good the restaurant and Lena (the manager are)...a few months back, I did not love the bread that was on the hamburger so I quickly mentioned it to Lena one day as I was leaving just as a suggestion. She already knew that it could be better.. (as she told me about how she was already getting a new bun) since she is always making things perfect. I tried the burger with the sourdough bread and LOVED IT but it seemed like the burger bread could be just as good (which Lena already knew of course...). The next week, Lena had a better bun that I now love even more than the sourdough bread on my burger! (both are great options but the updated bread that the burger comes with now is FANTASTIC and I appreciate Lena making that happen! This is by far a restaurant that has everything together and is run very well. I now am a customer for life and go at least once a week! I value the friends I have made there now as I feel like the waitstaff is so much more than just waiters taking my order and Lena is so great at running the place and makes you feel welcome. See my photo I attached to show the updated burger bun I love and come try it for yourself!

Yelp
Great food. Great service. Always welcoming and always clean. Happy to be a regular at Adair Downtown. Did you know they have a big variety of already made plates to go as well? Be quick because they go fast.

Yelp
Went here on a corporate lunch with my team, as it's located in the middle of downtown. The ambiance gives french cafe vibes and there is a Adair cafe located right outside for a quick drink to-go. The food here is always super fresh and the food is one of the top options in downtown. The fries have a nice crunch, and the burger is moist paired with the buns. The service is questionable to say the least. They need to hire more employees to keep up with the lunch rush. Our whole team had empty glasses that needed to be refilled (which were never refilled). Additionally, it took quite a while for us to even place our order. Overall, Adair is a solid 4.5/5 and would visit more frequently if the service was better.

Yelp
One of the best nice casual full service spots downtown. In the tunnel but has natural light, full bar, pleasant ambiance and really good food for breakfast and lunch. So glad Adair opened a downtown location. I go regularly for lunch and typically easy seating or a tiny wait. Service is always professional and on point. Very efficient but not rushed. Today I took two guests and everyone had my usual, fish tacos. They are great! You choose your own side and I love either the sweet potato fries or asparagus. Love the artichoke soup and power bowl too. Also a fan of their ice tea.

Yelp
I was in town for the work week. My coworker suggested this place for efficient and good service as well as healthy food which is in short supply in work catered events. I started with a bowl of lemon artichoke soup. It was delicious with a light lemon flavor. Then I had the blackened goat cheese salad. It was delicious with pink in seeds and a light dressing. I highly recommend this place! The server was friendly and service was great! Window design makes for natural light.

Yelp
A group of coworkers and I are very new to downtown working. Downside - commute, upside - shiiiit all these restaurants! We were walking around the tunnels and happened upon Adair. It's in the Wells Fargo Plaza tunnel and is a cute sit down spot. It also has a quick to go section if you're on the move. I decided to go with the Blackened Shrimp & Goat Cheese Salad. I really enjoyed the meal, it was light and since carbs don't work well for me, walking back to my tunnel wasn't a chore. The only thing I didn't like was the salad came dressed. I'd request on the side if I get their salads again. They also offer bottled 20 oz for soft drinks...I wasn't expecting the 3.50/4 price tag but I guess girl! My coworkers ordered fish tacos and Prime Rib French Dip and had no complaints. The service was spectacular. Hispanic gentleman, I wanna say he said his name was Mike but I've been eating out so damn much, I might be wrong. He was funny, super helpful and friendly and when I told him I'm a foodie, we all started discussing good seafood and bbq restaurants in the city to try. Now I was trying to take my whole team back and couldn't find a way to reserve a table. Idk if you can through phone but when we got there, everybody and their mama and mama's mama was trying to eat. It was a rainy day with packed tunnels. Restaurant is rather small so party of 6 was estimated over 30 min wait. Lesson learned...

Yelp
Great place to have lunch during work hours! A a variety of options are available for those who have dietary restrictions and the service is friendly and fast.

Yelp
Located underground beneath the Wells Fargo/PWC tower. It looks like a solid power lunch spot with a modern and clean interior that is located in a pretty good spot; downtown wise. We've come by for drinks and for breakfast; Pros: convenient tunnel access, modern interior Cons: Food is pretty average/ non extraordinary, service is very slow. Overall, there are much better and much less desirable breakfast spots. It's convenient in terms of tunnel access but I wouldn't recommend it for the food alone. Coming by with a group for a drinks would be the ideal spot.

Yelp
We decided to go in the downtown tunnels on Friday afternoon, and not get lost.. lol. So we entered the tunnels at the Wells Fargo building. After wandering around awhile, we decided to have a snack at Adair Kitchen. We sat at the bar, and all ordered the lemon ice box pie. I also ordered a lemon drop martini, which competed with my lemon dessert. Both were very good, and we enjoyed talking to people who work there, a very nice Russian lady and a German lady: The restaurant is very clean and attractive. Give it a try.. they're not only in the tunnel; they have other locations.

Yelp
Went here for lunch. Seated rather quickly considering I was told it would be 20 min; it took 5 minutes. Ordered the chicken sandwich and was disappointed. The bun was atrocious. It was hard and crumbled into chunky pieces before even biting into it. It ruined the whole sandwich. It's like the bread wasn't fresh? Our waitress, V, was nice but was never around. We saw her maybe 4 times. Greet, brought waters, took order, gave us check. Never came back to the table to ask how we were or how the food was. If she did I would've had a chance to tell her about my bun. Later I had to flag her down for our check. I probably won't be back. They stay busy though due to their location.

Yelp
The food is a hit or miss to me here. Downtown options I feel like are expensive and the food quality isn't that great - this is not an exception. I've ordered here a few times, including the grain bowl with tuna, salads, black bean quinoa patty. All of these were okay to me. I do give this place has a nice ambiance though for a work lunch. The vibe is nice!

Mike M.

Yelp
Adair Downtown is a hidden gem in the tunnel beneath the Welles Fargo Plaza. The food is excellent and at a very fair price. The General Manager Lena always makes sure the service and food is exceptional. Not only are the main course meals excellent so are the desserts especially the flan.

Scott V.

Yelp
Food and service very good. Limited menu is actually a good sign .. easy to make decisions and restaurant confident it can serve you well

Yelp
DO NOT use this restaurant! They are thieves! I walked out with a food bill of $49.25, then when the charge posted, it was $54.25. When I called and spoke with management, they wanted to give me the runaround saying that it would take them a few days to find my ticket and "investigate". I wasted 3 days playing around with them until I had to get my card company involved and they took over to get my refund back. This restaurant is super dishonest and I will never be visiting it again, and I don't recommend you guys do it either.

Yelp
A friend of mine and I went to Adair Downtown for happy hour right after a long day of work. First of all, a huge negative was how difficult it was to find the restaurant. It is inside a building in the lower levels. The other was that this very very small spot is made to look much larger and much more attractive via social media, but I don't really think I would recommend it. Where we entered the restaurant, it just looked like an airport convenience store, where I'm assuming this model is conducive to a large flow of lunch traffic from the building employees. It's just a little off putting if you don't work their. You almost feel like you're about to get cafeteria food before you sit down. We sat down and when we asked about happy hour, which was heavily promoted through social media, we were told they did not have one, but they did have bar bites. We ordered drinks, a dirty martini and a sparkling rosé and ordered the Brussels sprouts, a prosciutto flat bread, and the prime rib sliders. The drink section will be rather short. The Brit rose I ordered was MUCH too expensive and came in a very small, barely filled champagne flute. Wouldn't recommend. And the dirty martini, according to my friend, was also pretty lack luster and not that great. If you're just going for a drink after work, we wouldn't recommend. The prosciutto flat bread was actually pretty good, but the prosciutto was very over cooked making some pieces very hard to chew. The prime rib sliders were an incredible disappointment. I was expecting the burger patty like sliders, but received what looked like very thinly sliced over cooked roast beef. Another disappointment was with the undercooked "caramelized" onions. It tasted awful and very much like prepackaged cafeteria food, which is sad because the a jus was good and so was the sauce on the sliders. The Brussels sprouts were however, so of the best I have ever had! They were crispy and not at all oily. To this day I think about these. TLDR: Brut Rose: 0/5 Dirty Martini: 0/5 Brussels Sprouts: 5/5 Prosciutto Flat Bread: 2/5 Prime Rib Sliders: 1/5

Yelp
I finally moved back to a job in downtown and started going to Adair because it's within perfect walking distance of my office and near some old co-workers. In fact, it was the last spot where I had a happy hour in early March 2020 before work from home became the norm and happy hours were put on pause. I now work downtown 3 days a week and stop by Adair at least 2-3 times for a quick lunch or an after work drink and snack. It has definitely become my new favorite place and I look forward to seeing not only old friends but also the employees who are always friendly, efficient, and professional. I've recommended multiple business lunches/dinners take place here and the people I've brought always come away impressed with the ambience, the food, and the drink selections. Stormy and Vanessa are great bartenders, while Kevin and Arlyne are extremely fast and attentive servers. I would be remiss if I didn't mention Lena the GM who is the engine behind the entire operation and ensures she gets the very best out of her employees.

Yelp
I'm already obsessed! I've been longing for a restaurant on this side of downtown where I could grab lunch, a snack, or breakfast and Adair has truly come through (though I haven't tried lunch yet). They have quick grab and go items such as overnight oats or pre-made tacos, salads and sandwiches or you can order from the menu. On my first visit, I ordered the custom breakfast taco and added hash browns and avocado to plain eggs. The eggs were fluffy and seasoned well and the tortilla was fresh and warm. I've since tried a few pastries on different days which were all amazing, the cinnamon roll is more of a flaky croissant roll and my favorite so far. Service Is great and the decor reminds me of a farmer's market on one side, and a laidback bar on the other.

Yelp
Clean updated venue that stays busy with those of us that work downtown. If you don't work downtown and ate simply enjoying the downtown view, this is a great place to have a nice lunch, dinner or happy hour. Food is delicious and served well portioned. Staff is friendly even with the busy lunch hour. Street parking is available or just hop on a city bike and visit.

Ryan T.

Yelp
We wished the menu had more choices and the service was subpar. Our server wasn't very friendly at all. My Chicken Paillard was pretty good but it was a grilled chicken breast so.... I guess it could have been extremely dry. 2 in our party had the steak sandwich which was just mediocre. Another had the Turkey club which she claimed had too much bread. With all the choices in downtown Houston, I probably won't be back.

Ashley S.

Yelp
I had to give an update on my review because I just wanted to add another one of my favorites from this place. The breakfast tacos and English tea was *chef's kiss*! It's my staple food for breakfast. If I haven't said this before I will say it now: the prices are reasonable, the food is delicious, the atmosphere is nice, and the servers are friendly. I would recommend 10/10!
google avatar

Jimmy D.

Yelp
Great lunch and fantastic place to grab a drink after work, take the stairs from street level and sit outside!
google avatar

Amy R.

Yelp
Good food. Clean. Nice ambiance with the location being in a cool secluded spot. It gets busy there since the prices are reasonable. Oh, and the fresh baked goods are so delish! I think management can improve slightly, but the service from other workers there is GREAT. I have no complaints of this restaurant. I do recommend eating at this location for lunch or dinner. They are a hidden gem well worth learning about if you are hungry!
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
If you are looking for a great place downtown for good food, Drinks and amazing service, I'd recommend Adair's downtown. We've been coming since they opened, The staff are great, always attentive and take care of us. The Bar is really nice with a good selection. you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
Very nice ambience and super friendly service. Salmon and icebox pie were lovely. It's a must if you're in downtown service. Best bar staff in Houston!
google avatar

Emerald D.

Yelp
OMG this place is a gem. I'll start off with the salads, so good! My favorite, but I've never had a bad meal here even when not salads. Everything is so fresh and delicious. Even the baked goods (danishes are my guilty pleasure ). The staff is wonderful as well. There's not a lot of people working there, but Jennifer is my favorite! Always so helpful and friendly. She makes good drinks too! Def check this place out if you're in the area

Huy N.

Yelp
Great food. Everything on the menu is delicious! Everyone on waitstaff is courteous and attentive. This place works well for both a lunch destination or after-work drinks. Worth coming at least once and see for yourself.
google avatar

Dorian M.

Yelp
Great food and service! I had the NY Strip Steak with fried crispy Brussels sprouts and mash potatoes! It was perfect. Also, love the ambiance. Very chill and elegant place.
google avatar

James O.

Yelp
I ordered the NY Strip Steak, asparagus, mash potatoes was the worst. The food was barely warm. The steak was a very cheap cut, lots of fat, cooked on a flat grill, and the mash potatoes barely warm. The other guests liked their salmon. I dont like barely warm food because its been sitting on the counter waiting on the other good. I won't be back for such poor food. Service decent.

Kevin F.

Yelp
The service at this location is fantastic! Food was really good, but the bourbon selection is good as-well. Love the staff and the food. Definitely recommend for business lunches and happy hours.
google avatar

Rachel O.

Yelp
Great healthy stop if you're downtown. The sweet potatoes were phenomenal, and the hamburger had great flavor as well. I wish it was a little less cooked however. The salad was also good but I did wish the dressing had a little more flavor as well. Overall I would come back.

Ben V.

Yelp
Downtown is short of good after work drink stops. Adair fills the void and then some. The staff is incredibly attentive and the food is far above average (if you're in the mood for a snack).

C S.

Yelp
Great food, good prices. Out team eats lunch here once or twice per week. Super awesome staff who know us by name. Happy hours always rock.

John P.

Yelp
Love this place! The salads are amazing, and every time I go, no matter how busy they are, they treat me like a rock star (which I am not...). Great place.
google avatar

Shaun T.

Yelp
The bar-tender, Jo made me the best Side Car I have ever had. Restaurant is beautiful! Service is great!
google avatar

Tashamee L.

Yelp
I felt like the bread from my steak sandwich was too hard for my teeth but overall great service. I'd recommend the cinnamon roll because it is delicious. Also, the tacos in the morning are pretty good. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing.

Maria V.

Yelp
Arrived at 11:45 am and had to wait 20 minutes to seat 3. We were hungry so looked at menu to order as soon as we were seated. I ordered grilled pesto salmon with asparagus and cilantro rice. Others at table ordered Thai chopped salad with lemon artichoke soup, and blackened shrimp and goat cheese. After bringing us our initial order of water and taking our order didn't see our waitress again. Other servers brought us our food. My salmon was cold. Since we had waited and no one came by table I tried to eat my salmon but couldn't eat it. I had to call at least 3 other waitresses before our waitress appeared. I told her my food had been cold and she said she would speak with manager. She said best they could do is offer 15% off my meal since I'd eaten some of it. My other dining mates ate all their food, so best I can offer is a 3 star rating. It sucked for me, but they enjoyed it.

Kaiser L.

Yelp
First time trying out Adair with my coworker at lunch. The atmosphere is nice, food is luke warm not hot (as if it's been sitting in the kitchen for a while). I ordered salmon, and fish texture is interestingly soft instead of flaky. When it's time to pay the bill, the waitress brought a POS machine to me for credit card swiping. On thé POS display, it gives you the tipping options (15%,18%,20%, other) which I thought was nice and convenient- you only have to select an option rather than calculate the total amount. On my way back, my coworker asked me if I thought the amount was correct and that's how we realized that the amount they had already included tips. That means we DOUBLED TIPPED without knowing it. This is so sneaky! If the tips are already included, you should let the customer know rather than HIDE it. I am a good tipper, but this incident made me very upset!

Yelp
Great spot for a quick breakfast, nice sit down lunch, or drink after work. The food is flavorful and well done with plenty of healthy choices.

Amanda D.

Yelp
I really love this place for a business lunch. There can be a wait, but the food is great and well priced. Their salads are delicious and the same price as food court salads but you get lovely sit down service. The salmon, rice and asparagus is also on point. For the price point it can't be beat. Not sure why all the people complaining are ordering burgers, I've never had their burger, but it also isn't a burger and fry kind of aesthetic.

Susan V.

Yelp
Went during lunch hour. Ordered the red snapper tacos and they were cold and not very tasty. Also had a cup of tortilla soup which was good flavor but not worth coming back for. My friend ordered the burger, she said it was good, but the fries were salty. Another star taken away because I felt as if they were rushing us out as soon as we finished eating. I am hoping the drinks are better. It is a nice looking place.

Josh T.

Yelp
Dry, tasteless, over cooked frozen burger patty. Gross. Nice interior. Convenient tunnel access.
