15 Best Bars in Dallas | Condé Nast Traveler

"Adair’s is a rollicking little downtown bar that has a long-running reputation for live music seven nights per week. A no-frills neon sign, wood-paneled walls covered in Sharpie, and vinyl booths all set the scene at Adair’s." - Laura Ratliff

Adair's Saloon has been a Dallas staple for decades. It's second incarnation is the current location at 2624 Commerce in Deep Ellum. The humble saloon has been a live music Mecca for many listeners. The Red-Dirt/Texas Music scene has always been strong at Adair's. Live music nightly are rarely is there a cover charge. A great time with good bartenders and friendly patrons. The kitchen is always ready to provide some sustainance whether the famous Adair's Cheeseburger and Fries or one of the "newer" items on the menu. Take a look at the schedule and pick a night to go hear some live music. It is a good time at Adair's Saloon.

Google
Bartenders are great and the cheeseburger was amazing. "My buddies band got their start here" is both a true statement for me and the vibe you get from Adair's. Fun spot!

Google
I usually go for the Tuesday night open mic, they are very welcoming and open to all talent levels. Drink prices are fair, staff is attentive and friendly. You don't get to live in Deep Ellum as long as Adair's has without doing something right.

Don

Google
Hours are wrong. Call first. Great burgers...if they are open. Don't count on them during daylight. Deep Ellum's best burgers and dive bar is sinking fast. What a shame.

Mike Miller

Google
Local live music is good. Basic draft selection but they got the right ones. Friendly service and nice bar atmosphere

Alison

Google
Great little bar. Very cheap food and drink. Food was amazing. Guy behind the bar was a great guy, highly recommend.

Christopher Potter

Google
It's such a fun vibe. I only got to enjoy a few minutes here, but i definitely enjoyed the little time I got. Great music, a wonderful staff, and it's a great location.

Michael Honza

Google
This place is magical. Classic dive bar with a great staff. Cold beer, great drinks, & super tasty food. Got a band & this is our favorite place to play. Have met people there from all over the country & the world. Always a party.

Faris Z.

Yelp
We came here because a stranger told us they have the best burger in town. And not only that. The burger is less than 10$. So we went in. Immediately Danny was super friendly. He talked to us about the place. Gave us a marker to sign the wall somewhere. We get the burger but we eat it at the Airbnb, and omg. It really is one of the best burgers I've ever had for less than 10$. 100% will be coming back here next time I'm in Dallas. The next day we walked by this place and Danny runs out of the store and across the street to come say hi to us and ask about the burger. His customer service is like no other. He's so friendly and honestly even if the burger wasn't good I would go back for Danny.

Yelp
A Dallas dive bar original, shotgun style country bar with one of the BEST burgers in DFW. Good place to get away from the uptown crowd and enjoy live music, great food, and cold beer.
google avatar

Giselle W.

Yelp
Loved the friendly bartenders and the talented bands. Was a fun evening vibe. Didn't order food, but I'm sure would've been good based on the attention to service.
google avatar

Oscar F.

Yelp
This is a hole on the wall bar. You won't believe you are in Deep Ellum, but on this classic american bar. Their cheeseburgers are the best, I will come back only to eat one of their delicious cheeseburgers. Kimberly at the bar is the best.
google avatar

Barron M.

Yelp
Wanted to love the place and was ready to but the waitress had a very nasty attitude. Didn't card half of our party and served them with no issue, but wouldn't let my fiancé get a drink because she forgot her wallet and then threatened to kick us out if I gave her a sip of my beer lol. Burger was good, onion rings were top notch, but unfortunately won't be back - not worth the price of service!
google avatar

Yelp
Loved it. Was in Dallas for a couple of nights. Looking for dive bar found Adair's. Bartender Kimberly was awesome. Hamburger was great. So good I stopped in to start next night. Same great service. Had grilled cheese with bacon. Very good. Live music both nights. Looking for a relaxed place to start, finish, or stay all night, can't go wrong with Adair's. Kimberly rocks
google avatar

Lauren K.

Yelp
Love this place. Still the best cheeseburgers I've ever had in the DFW metroplex. Wonderful, comfy little dive bar. Never change, you glorious beast. Except- get a Big Buck Hunter Reloaded cab ;)

E T.

Yelp
The burger was good!!! The service was excellent! The vibe is awesome! Drink specials are good as well! Go c Kimberly she's a total vibe! Will be back again!

Cassey A.

Yelp
I've never had the food - but everything else is great. Dark, dingy drive bar. Service is always good. I have seen young and old in the place. They have great music. I took one Star off due to sometimes the bathroom really smells terrible. Not sure what that is about.

Marc I.

Yelp
Good music (Grant Gillispie and the Morning Shakes) and a great burger. Good price on the burger
google avatar

Jared B.

Yelp
Exactly how I remembered the place from over a decade ago! Excellent service, great drinks and fun ambiance! Made for an excellent end to my wife's bday night where the service at Catbird suffered so much... We will be back to Adair's!

Alexandra B.

Yelp
The absolute best burger in Dallas! I will always come back when I need a big, juicy, flavorful burger. Fries were good, I usually get the tater tots and I'll probably go back to those. Ranch on the side was too salty, so I just used ketchup instead. But I cannot emphasize the burger enough, nothing else matters!
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
First, Patti the bartender was outstanding- five stars for her. She made me a burger that was close to perfect, in every possible way- five stars for that burger. The place is a bit grimy, but appropriately so for the epitome of a dive bar. Three stars for vibe-decor. Was here with a friend, who drank too much, grieving the loss of a long term (50+ years) friendship. Patti cut him off at just the right time. I will surely return in the near future.
google avatar

Matthew L.

Yelp
Small venue with live music, cold beer, and full bar. A true local experience with a small dance floor. Check out the website for lists of bands for each night. They serve food, but that's not why you go there.
google avatar

Erik A.

Yelp
You can definitely tell this place is a Dallas staple. Really great live music. In fact, ended up coming in because we heard the music while walking by. Huge space, adorned with stickers, signs, and marker graffiti. Booth seating along the sides and plenty of standing area for when it's busy. Cold beer served up quick by friendly bartenders. No wait no fuss. Reasonable prices. Had a few beers each over about an hour and a half, and wished I'd gotten some food here - will save that for a future visit, though.
google avatar

Benjamin W.

Yelp
Absolutely a staple you have need to experience. Came here after a crappy night at Javier's. Yeah... don't go there.

Eric F.

Yelp
The best burger I've ever had! Adair's is a nice change of pace and reminds me of a typical old dive bar with a country feel. Cheap beer, free jukebox, pool table, and occasional live music. I recommend checking this place out and definitely get the burger while you're there.
google avatar

Kurt C.

Yelp
Great C&W dive bar! Hamburgers are the best. Friendly bartenders that serve great drinks and beer!
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
I learned about this place because I got a t-shirt from dive bar shirt club. I would get comments when i wore it. "Hey man. Are you from Dallas??? Great friggin burgers!!!" Totally legit. If you respect a great, relaxed "dive bar"...this place is great. If you want a good burger and beer, this is cool. Plus, good live music.
google avatar

Chelsea M.

Yelp
For sure a dive bar but the bartenders are great, good crowd of regulars and the bartenders are attentive and quick. I've been here 3 times and each time had a good time. If you like dive bars and are looking for one in deep ellum this is the place!
google avatar

Elle A.

Yelp
Great food, great live music. Bar service was quick and effective! Loved the vibe that this place gave off

Yelp
Got to be our favorite place to play. Cold beer. Great burgers. Awesome staff. A great place for hanging with our friends & making new ones. - Sister Janez & The Bad Habits

Yelp
We spent a couple of hours Thursday night in Adairs with About a dozen people. Cool old school country band playing some Waylon, Ernest Tub , and the likes. Food looked and smelled amazing but we had already eaten. We will go back for sure, but will slow sip that 7 dollar beer more slowly and maybe play pool or shuffleboard.
google avatar

Kristie A.

Yelp
I take it all back. After trying the burger a few times I finally had a burger that made me see what the hype was about. I went in a week or so ago and ordered the cheeseburger. It came out pink, which was wonderful. Good flavors and juicy. Dear baby burger jesus - I have seen the light.

JD P.

Yelp
This dive bar is a Dallas institution. Great live music every night with great hamburgers and fries. Shawn is amazing bartender and jukebox is iconic. They run out of shiner a bit too often but otherwise perfect
google avatar

Anthony L.

Yelp
The cheeseburger is one of the best burger's in town. The bun was very crispy and the burger was cooked to perfection. The tater tots though were out of this world. Best tater tots I've had in a long time. They were cooked very well and weren't very greasy. The atmosphere was great, they have live music every single day starting around 7PM and the group I saw perform today was very talented. I will definitely return!
google avatar

Maribeth P.

Yelp
Freaking love this place. Great live music, good food and ice cold beer. A Dallas institution! Try it out!
google avatar

Joseph W.

Yelp
Adair's is probably the best place to get an amazing old fashioned burger in all of downtown/Deep Ellum!

Gavin R.

Yelp
Absolutely love this bar live music and awesome selection of music on the juke box. The food is always amazing. Only one thing keeps this place from being the best. They have one bartender who is just a complete jerk always has an attitude is rude and impatient gets upset when you pay as you go. The guys acts like the world is out to get him. When I stop in and he's working I turn right around and go somewhere else. When he isn't working I have an absolute blast because there's nobody being a Jerk to you serving a beer
google avatar

Sara D.

Yelp
Now this is a cool bar. Went there last weekend and it was very lively with a band playing. Drinks were delicious and fairly priced. They also have a pool table and another table in the back to hang out and play games. Would definitely recommend stopping by for a drink.

Yelp
Adair's is a staple on this side of Deep Ellum. They offer live music on a nightly basis. The music is country and more specifically Texas Country. If you have to ask what Texas Country is.. you might want to stay clear. The interesting thing about Adair's for new visitors is all the decorations on the wall. Just about every inch of this place is covered with something unique and interesting. So the crowd at Adair's is a diverse crowd. Everyone is encouraged to stand up and dance if the mood hits you. Don't worry guys, you won't have a problem finding a lovely lady to dance with. This place is a bit old school in a lot of ways. There is shuffleboard in the back & if you're a smoker you can sit on the patio. But one thing you will find out is that is they offer food. It's basic burgers and fries. But you're going to be surprised. They are like some roadside gas station burger from Arkansas. ( I'm not saying Arkansas burgers are better than the ones in Texas, I'm just saying there are more roadside gas station burgers in Arkansas.) They are greasy, tasty and something to be proud of, especially with that big ole purple onion on it! Food til 1:30am! If you go there more than 3 times, you'll probably get to know the bartender and enjoy a good laugh or two. Parking in the area is the normal Deep Ellum parking. Some street parking, but most is parking lots around the building.

B D.

Yelp
Do you f''n like like music??? Hard to have a better time if you appreciate live bands.

Yelp
Me and my husband are traveling from Nevada to Georgia and wanted to stop in Dallas because we heard it was a cool town. Little did we know we would stumble upon a awesome little dive bar! We are small town people and this place made us feel right at home. Food was great, bar tender was nice and did his job well, and the music by "Red" was fantastic. We will definitely come back to this bomb ass place if we ever find ourselves back in Dallas. By pass the trendy crap in downtown and find this place. You won't regret it. Keep banging it out Adair's saloon. And lone star beer is on tap which is freakin awesome.

Kelly A.

Yelp
I just love this place. They make the best, greasy old fashioned cheeseburgers. It's also a great bar that serves beer in a can. My favorite being LoneStar. They have a jukebox with plenty of Texas music and live music on the weekends.
google avatar

Somer V.

Yelp
I go here every time I'm in Dallas! Food is exceptional, drinks are reasonably priced, music is always so good. My favorite thing to get is the cheese burger, I really like that they put the pepper on it. Adds a little something! Wings are great too. It's a small space, but there is enough room for a few people to be up dancing at the same time. The writing on the walls is a really fun touch too and is totally art to me. It gives the country bar a little modern flare. Love this place.

Yelp
My friends and I stopped here one night after a show we saw at the Majestic Theater. With a bar name like "Adair's Saloon" in downtown Dallas, you feel like you're about to walk into a bar full of cowboys. Well, that wasn't far from the truth but I didn't see any spurs. The closest cowboy I saw in there was the lone musician who sang 90's and early 2000's country music all night from names like Alan Jackson, Garth, and Brooks and Dunn. If done right, those songs can be bar-fillers, but considering it was a Thursday night with 40° weather out not too many people were looking for cold beer. The walls are absolutely covered in handwritten sharpie graffiti. With the exception of their jukebox and a couple of pictures that are off limits to write on - the walls were absolutely covered. Since it was Thursday not too many people were there but the shuffleboard table had a crowd around it waiting to get in on the action. All in all, if you're looking for something dive-y to kick back and catch up with some old friends, this is the place to do it. It's not too loud, their beer selection is good, the bartenders are on the ball with service, and the bar is a great spot to two people to find a place to chat.

Kyle A.

Yelp
Dive bar with a decent beer list, live music and shuffleboard! JD Brower Band was playing Sunday night and sounded great.
google avatar

McCaely C.

Yelp
Adair's is definitely a hole in the wall bar. Great drinks and amazing burgers! When they have live music it is definitely a place to be any day of the week.
google avatar

Lafondla J.

Yelp
Best burgers in town, always had cheap beer and good music and a down to earth crowd.
google avatar

Yelp
Urban Cowboy Getaway Probably one of the oldest bars left in Dallas is Adairs. From it's start in Uptown before it was Uptown to it's move to a low key Deep Ellum, it's a great place to come have drink while listening to a great live music band. I have heard from awful to awesome and everything in between. For the most part, they are normally pretty good though. Make sure to check out their schedule. It's a dive of a dive bar, nothing fancy here but decent food and drinks. I like their fries and burgers, cheap and made the old fashioned way. You can also feel like a celebrity when you come here. The walls, tables and ceilings are all tagged up with names and dates of Adair's many patrons. If you can find a spot, take it as your claim to bar immortality. Writing's on the wall
google avatar

Phillip B.

Yelp
People see this place with their own perceptions of dirty grungy immature blahness. I see the diveyness of this place as unique. The writing and graffiti that covers literally every square inch of this place from the ceiling to the floor is art work. It represents a certain American culture of comfort and chill out attitude. So fitting for this place. Beers and wells are limited. Food is greasy cheap, and, the burgers are said to be what every drunk night needs. I've yet to try one. Doesn't mean I won't. It smells a little off in here. Could be 50 years of sweat, tears, beers and whiskey. They have live music every night for FREE! Famous bands like the Dixie Chick's have played here. It is a Country bar, but, they have a good rocking juke you can enjoy when there is no band playing. And, if you sit at the bar you can rest your feet on railroad ties. From the blood of the flag to the bumper stickers to the power adapter that hangs from the ceiling to the Xmas lights to the broken Cobb street sign to the good music to the "Two Step Boogie" to the friendly staff and crowd to the graffiti to the greasy food to the smell to the beers and the wells that are limited yet perfect, all make this one of the most unique dives I've been in. Gladly give them five stars!
google avatar

Anthony V.

Yelp
I strolled through here on a random weeknight and was happy to see ice cold pbr available behind the bar. Who doesn't love a place with cans of beer and great burgers. This is the epitome of a dive bar simple and full of graffiti and maybe a little honky tonk if your lucky. I did get to watch a band set up for what seemed to be at least three beers long. Once they were finally set up my friend and I watched ladies dancing barefoot on the dance floor. Wow, I like the bar but probably won't be taking off my teva sandals to have a pants off dance off in here. The burgers were huge and it was definitely a solid meal. I had one too many pbr and bud light I believe. I can't wait to come back when it's a little more crowded and see how this place is. I will have to get back soon to grab a burger and cold beer.
google avatar

Margaux H.

Yelp
Great music, burgers and staff. Derek W. A great bartender well established in the Dallas scene. A place to time with friends and just relax and have a good time. Live Music most nights.
google avatar

Tony N.

Yelp
Definitely a dive bar with a lot of history. I spent a good amount of time just reading everything on the wall, Very entertaining. I heard the burgers were good but didn't get a chance since we just ate before coming here, overall it was a fun spot to grab some drinks with friends.
google avatar

Adrian E.

Yelp
Review #300 Don't be mistaken, this is a dive bar. I mean that in the best of ways. For those of you who prefer your beer of the Pabst or Pearl Light variety, they have you covered. If you prefer something on the craft side, they also have Lakewood and Peticolas on tap. Whatever your beer preference, you can find something to your liking at Adair's. Perhaps you're headed to Adair's to listen to one of the many live musicians/bands that might be playing that night. That's great. You'll be welcomed into a place where no one is concerned about what kind of car you drive or what brand of jeans you're wearing. Adair's is definitely a casual place worth checking out for a drink and some fun. If you do head out to Adair's, do yourself a favor and order one of their cheeseburgers. They are big. They are juicy. They are messy. They are fantastic. I ordered my burger at the bar and it came out perfect. The food menu is not very extensive, but it really doesn't need to be. Order a burger and a beer and you're all set. Seasoned fries on the side help to make the meal complete. Now, if you go to Adair's and order the chicken sandwich, it may be a bit dry. But then again, I didn't tell you to order the chicken sandwich did I? Trust me, order the cheeseburger.
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
This place has amazing burgers and fries. They also had a live band playing which was really good. The wait staff was quick and helpful. I loved this place and will be back to have another burger and beer when I'm in Dallas again.
google avatar

Lana C.

Yelp
Two stars because I laughed at tons of people while is was here. They also have Malibu rum which is appreciated. This place literally takes the phrase "writing on the wall" literally. If you have a message you want immortalized please write it on any wall you can find room. This place is awful but that is why I enjoyed it.
google avatar

Chris E.

Yelp
Look here--Adair's does not need yet another 5 star review from little ol' me, so what I'm gonna review are their TOTS. Yes sir, finally discovered a phenomenal Tater Tot right here in Deep Ellum that was under my nose this whole time and I didn't even know it. Yes yes, awesome "dive" bar and always-friendly bar staff + some of the best burgers in the area, blah blah blah. Great live music seems like every night of the week, loads of regulars, yadda yadda. Just git on in here for those light, flaky, delicate first-rate tots! Only downside to the place is the occasional times Mitchy Mitch is workin the door. Ladies, just ignore that guy...
google avatar

Vanessa J.

Yelp
Best burger in my city. Still is. Periodt. The atmosphere always gets weird. The tots with queso makes up for it. Lol. It's a staple of Dallas. Please never gentrify!
