The Best Tacos In Philadelphia

"Adelita has a massive menu—like the Declaration of Independence massive—and they’re solid at everything they serve. But it’s the tacos that are at the top of our desert island wish list. You get three for $12 (add guacamole for just $1) and come with onions, cilantro, and cactus. Choose between juicy steak (our favorite), smoky pulled chicken, or even something as adventurous as tripe. On the same block as South Philly Barbacoa and Casa Mexico, it gets crowded with people who couldn’t get into those places but still want fresh masa topped with stewed meat. " - alison kessler, candis mclean

Adelita - Review - Italian Market - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Adelita has a massive menu–like the Star Wars opening crawl massive–and they’re solid at everything they serve. The tacos are phenomenal, the cemita sandwiches house your chicken or pork in warm pillows of fresh bread on each side, and we’ve put their chilaquiles at the top of our desert island list. On the same block as South Philly Barbacoa and Casa Mexico, it can get crowded with people who couldn’t get into those places but still want fresh masa, mole, and tortillas topped with stewed meat.  Everything on the menu is available for takeout, so we recommend grabbing tacos and a tamarind soda to go." - Candis R. Some of the best al pastor I've had in my life! Incredible burrito at an insanely reasonable price. Everything from the rice to the tortilla was seasoned perfectly so that I could taste every element while it still came together as a full bite

Google
Nachos were pretty great, and the burrito was also very delicious. Staff is friendly and service is relatively quick. Do yourself a favor and get a Mexican coke

Google
If you are craving for some barbacoa tacos. This is definitely a place to try. Their barbacoa was succulent, juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The order comes with three well-proportioned tacos, and what I appreciated the most was the amount of chard veggies, cactus, chambray onions, fresh cucumber slices, and a hearty cup of consome and sauces. You must give them a try. You will not regret it.

Google
I knew this spot had some tasty tacos, but the gigantic pollo cemita that I enjoyed a couple days ago blew my mind! The sandwich was stacked high on a toasted roll and included a generous portion of tender pollo milanese, a mass of snappy Oaxaca cheese strands, jack cheese, creamy avocado, ham slices, chipotle peppers, onion, and tomato. I enjoyed it with red and green salsas. I’d get it sans tomato next time. Can’t wait to return for another, and to try some other eats!

If you are looking for a truly authentic Mexican restaurant, this is the place to go! The flavors are rich, the ingredients are fresh, and every dish tastes like it was made with love and tradition. From the perfectly seasoned tacos to the homemade salsas, everything on the menu is a hit. The service is warm and welcoming, making you feel like family from the moment you walk in. The atmosphere is vibrant and lively, just like a real cantina in Mexico. This is hands down the best Mexican restaurant we have found in all of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. If you’re craving real, authentic Mexican food, look no further—you won’t be disappointed.

VERY GOOD, VERY delicious mouthwatering tacos! I loved tostadas, fresh and flavourful steak. The best tostadas I’ve tried so far, and I’ve tried a few. The owner is nice and friendly. Would absolutely recommend to anyone! Will be back when I’m in the area

Google
Great Mexican restaurant south of the Italian Market. The Chile rellenos are delicious and fresh - they are not a menu item, but offered as a special. Great Birria and El Pastor tacos with a consome made with love.

Google
We found our taco spot. Everything at Adelita was fantastic. Chips, salsa, and Pico de Gallo are fresh. I got the tortilla soup and was surprised how big the portion was. The broth had so much flavor. We also tried the steak and pastor tacos which were perfect and exactly the kind of tacos we wanted. To top it off we had great horchata. We will definitely be coming back whenever we want good tacos

Yelp
I recently visited this restaurant and tried the chorizo nachos and steak tacos. Overall, it was a satisfying experience. I started with the chorizo nachos, which were very good. While the chorizo itself lacked a bit in flavor, the combination of cheese and chips was absolutely delicious. I'm considering trying a different meat next time or perhaps going for an all-vegetable option to enhance the overall taste. On the other hand, the steak tacos were a real highlight. They were incredibly filling, loaded with generous portions of well-cooked steak. The texture was perfect, and I appreciated the effort put into the preparation. However, I couldn't help but wish for a bit more seasoning or flavor in the dish. Although the green and red sauces were provided, the tacos seemed to lack a distinct taste without them. I would definitely come back. The ambiance was pleasant, the place was clean, and the service was nice. Looking forward to trying more from the menu on my next visit!

Yelp
Randomly stumbled across this taqueria. My friend and I ordered Steak Nachos so yummy. The chips and salsa were complimentary. The service was good and they helped us out with ease. Everyone was friendly. The Ambiance was nice, we sat outside and was able to experience south philly for the first time.

Yelp
Great Mexican food? Check. Close to home? Check. Easy take out experience? Check. Takes credit cards? Check. The only thing stopping me from coming back here every week is my quest to try every Mexican restaurant on 9th street. This is a top 3 place on my quest so far (2/3 of the way done). Their takeout orders really held up on the short way home, even the nachos. I would love to come here and BYO sometime because their seating area is much bigger than most other similar restaurants. We got tacos, a burrito, enchiladas and nachos - all excellent. Topped off with a huge horchata for $78 with tip. I suspect I will be back before my quest is over

Yelp
Food is great! Whenever I come here, I always feel welcumed by the staff here. Whenever I leave, I feel satisfied but not stuffed like other places. Their breaded chicken and burritos are good. I'm a picky eater but they can take stuff out of ur food if you don't like it.

Yelp
Along this portion of 9th Street within the Italian Market area, there are several Mexican and Italian restaurant options. We made a spur of the moment decision to pop into Adelita. So glad we did! The food was authentic! Where can you get cactus as part of your entree! In addition, it was delicious and plentiful at reasonable prices. The service was also personable and helpful. The complimentary chips are nice, but beware that both dipping sauces are quite hot. My husband got the Bistec con Nopales, which he absolutely loved and devoured. I had never tried cactus before; it was good! I went with the recommended Enchiladas Suiza's. It was so tasty with the creamy tomato sauce - one of the less spicy options.

Yelp
Really great spot - byo, has a bunch of tables instead for sitting! It has fun music too - we did nachos, tacos, and tortas. We always had water which was really appreciated.

Yelp
We frequent this place for their tacos and tortas and they've never been a disappointment! Very solid restaurant.

Yelp
This hidden gem in south philly is why we need to support more authentic Mexican restaurants. The quantity and quality is phenomenal at such a reasonable price. I mean doesn't the picture says it all ?! Greatest and most friendly customer service. And also a clean restaurant. Side note, It's hard finding good taco spots in this already food gentrified city. Especially in center city filled with overpriced taco restaurants. Anyways, I hope Adelita add some good drinks onto the menu for a nice addition.

Yelp
Another pretty good Mexican place to add into the mix; won't unseat my three favorites (Mole Poblano, Tamalex, El Jarocho), but is just a touch behind them in my view. Service, as is typical for most taquerias in Philly, is top notch with everyone going out of their way to be helpful. Food quality itself was quite good, but some things lacked a bit of flavor. I had chilaquiles verdes, which were quite good, but could have used a bit more egg; another one of my party had lamb barbacoa, which she was not a fan of (I just think she doesn't like lamb though), and the third person had some chicken dish. Guacamole was also quite good. Would definitely come back and be happy to try more things.

Yelp
Love, love, love Adelita's! Wandered In after our original dinner plans were crushed. The service was lovely. Tacos were abundant with filling. Three for $7 felt like robbery. Totally going to be a regular and will update as I eat more than tacos. Although we didn't confirm, I'd swear the tortillas were made in house. Back again! Better than before. Excellent service. Gracias!!!!

Yelp
After Blue Corn refused to seat me and my wife's family because we had a stroller with us, we walked by this place and decided to try it. We are very glad we did. There was plenty of space for the stroller. The service was amazing. Every single thing we ordered was well-priced, amazingly portioned, and very tasty. My chicken poblano dish was super delicious. And although I usually always finish my dish, this one was just too big. I took some of it home for lunch. This place is byob. I definitely recommend trying it out.

Yelp
Normally really good tacos but sometimes hit or miss with the fat content and tonight was the worst. I ordered the suadero steak tacos and I would say 50% of the meat was pure fat. I took a picture of all the fat I had to pick out of my taco and honestly the rest of the meat was dry. Really disappointed how the quality has gone downhill recently
google avatar

Yelp
Service good but the tripe was too rubbery for my liking. The steak my husband had was really good and the tortillas were fresh.

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing. My wife and I dropped while looking for an open restaurant in Andorra. We ordered the nachos and a few Mexican beers. The Super Nachos are enough for 2-3 people and are covered with pork, beef, and chicken with beans, cheese, and guacamole. They were the best nachos I have ever had. Also, the service is quick and polite.

Yelp
Great place! I absolutely loved my chicken torta. The melted cheese on the bottom was a nice touch. The chicken was juicy and breaded just the right amount. The roll was a winning choice, too! The free salsa and chips here consists of regular restaurant-style AND salsa verde (of which the latter was actually the less spicy). Both salsa were good, and the chips were big and fluffy. Service was awesome! The waitress was friendly and answered all of my questions, then promptly brought whatever I ordered as soon as it was ready.

Yelp
I stumbled on Adelita looking for another taqueria in the area, and I couldn't be happier that I ended up stopping when I did... I ordered two plates of tacos to go - vegetarian for me, and shrimp for a friend - and we walked out with two hefty servings of tasty taco! We took our meals to go, and enjoyed them slathered in the two salsas that came with our food. Great taste for a good price - I would recommend!

Yelp
My Co-worker took me here to try some authentic Mexican food. The atmosphere was very nice I felt very comfortable very friendly staff. I ordered this pastor sandwich my friend recommended me and this is legit the best thing I ever tried! The chips and guacamole were delicious and they had this green sauce that came with chips also very delicious. If you're in the area and want Mexican food this is the place to go!

Yelp
excellent food, excellent service. the family who runs the place are incredible people. one of the best spots in philly

Yelp
Recently got take out from adelita; they were great! Super fast and order was perfect. The burritos are HUGE like two people could definitely split. The Caldo tlalpeno was so good, it had this excellent Smokey spicy flavor to it. The shrimp tacos were also good but I wish they had a bit more flavor to them; maybe some seasoning on the shrimp ?
google avatar

Yelp
First time trying this restaurant and I had a good experience. I ordered from Uber eats for pick up and it was fast and easy. I think it's the best way to order right now since they tell you exactly when your order is ready for pick up. I ordered the green enchiladas, 2 quesadillas, campechano tacos, and guacamole with chips. The enchiladas also came with a side order of rice and beans they were really good. The quesadillas are $6 dollars and they are huge! I got the chicken and the Tate was amazing !!! The campechano tacos were good and tasted ever better with the red sauce ! The guac was amazing and I would definitely order every time! This place was Great!

Yelp
Would have been 5 stars if not for the single carnitas taco that had a nasty amount of fat chunks. The Caldo Tlalpeno (Soup) w/ chicken, carrots, rice, chipotle pepper and garbanzo beans was exceptional. A definite reason to return and give another try. The Pico de Gallo and chips was good but could have been more plentiful.
google avatar

Jacob J.

Yelp
Really good tacos and loved the onions and cactus that came with them. A surprising bonus! And good homemade flan :)
google avatar

Celeste G.

Yelp
This place was super real deal. I came here for a quick birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. Everything was really tasty and temperature hot. We would love to come back even just for the guacamole! I got some tacos. Yum! Service was extra friendly. My photos is a picture of the monster chicken Montezuma. Sooo much food!
google avatar

Yelp
Best Mexican in Philly! Everything is fresh and well seasoned. Great Guacamole, tasty beans and rice, amazing tacos. Cactus is the bomb!
google avatar

Mig K.

Yelp
First of when it comes to Mexican food. I'm a torta guy (basically Mexican sandwich or burger.whatver u wanna call it) I have tried plenty of places and currently this place is my favorite place.i have been here a few times and every time, the bread on my torta taste fresh, its toasted or grilled on the inside n the ingredients are top. The tomato nice n ripe. The onions always crunchy n what not lol they do give u a little bit of avocado but the the peppers n the beans in the torta make up for it. My family have tried their tacos n have gone back on other visits cuz they're pretty good. Definitely recommend the place;although i Still gotta try their entrees.
google avatar

Carlye N.

Yelp
One of my absolute faves, especially for their tacos. The campechano tacos are my favorite and come with so many toppings. My husband is obsessed with their tortas. Their guacamole has a nice kick to it, which I appreciate. We've never had a bad thing!
google avatar

Tracy L.

Yelp
Amazing carnitas! One of the things I miss most about San Diego is the delicious Mexican food and this place delivered. I'm grateful my friend brought me here and can't wait to go back for more!
google avatar

Gregg L.

Yelp
The food was excellent. My only issue is that when one orders takeout and provides special instructions/requests, I believe they should be honored. Instead, they were ignored. I think next time I will go there to eat and make sure they follow my instructions!
google avatar

Meagan M.

Yelp
Philly's best kept secret! Best nachos, best sauce, best people. Go now, thank me later
google avatar

Bill J.

Yelp
The food was very good. Had the pork burrito which could easily feed two. The beef tacos were very filling and the meat was cooked just right. My wife and son really enjoyed the food and we all left full and very satisfied.

Donna E.

Yelp
I do not know why Adelita is not packed. There should be a line out the door. The decor perhaps could be a little less cafeteria-esque, but the food my god the food. Really really really good.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Ordered delivery for some tacos on a Saturday night. Food arrived early and warm! The pastor, tinga, fish, and suadero tacos were all excellent! Big portions for the price! Double tortillas which were so soft and delicious. Meat was cooked well, not too soupy but also not dry. Will definitely order from here again!

AznSouljas ..

Yelp
Very very good authentic Mexican food, the workers and owner was very friendly and wonderful! Will definitely come back to try new items! Everything looks fantastic! But can only eat so much in one sitting so I have to come back for multiple trips haha
google avatar

Joanne D.

Yelp
Best enchiladas I've had in Philly. Try the Enfrijoladas. They're SO freaking good. Chicken enchiladas with a refried bean sauce. And the spiciest salsas too. Everything was delicious, definitely will be going here again soon especially when they're only a few blocks from my house!

Kevin Y.

Yelp
This my first review after using Yelp a lot to make decisions. I try keep quiet, but I had to leave review this time. This is really a 2.5, their chalupas are okay and their hot sauce is pretty good. Unfortunately they tried to pass off a boiled hotdog (not even a good one) as chorizo. The torta ($11) I ordered was supposed to have chorizo in it, supposed being the key word there
google avatar

JoAna S.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican, super fresh and great flavors. This is now our go-to for delivery, highly recommend.

Peyton S.

Yelp
I ordered via Caviar and lemme say, I had a very hard day and was really hoping for some authentic tacos. I was blessed. I will be ordering again, highly recommend the guacamole too.
google avatar

Mario M.

Yelp
Great authentic food with large portions. We ordered the sopes, quesadilla, al pastor & asada tacos and horchata! Everyone loved their food. Definitely recommend and it's open late!!!

Karelis F.

Yelp
Today I order from Uber eats, I order cheese enchiladas from the moment I open my food the smells was really nasty it was like one of the ingredients was past of time, when I decided to try to make sure It was me, But no!!! The food really taste like the ingredients was nasty. Please next time make sure the ingredients you are about to cook is fresh !!!! Im sorry but I will never eat again in this restaurant.

R L.

Yelp
Amazing food and wonderful service! We got the seafood special, tacos, and elote. Everything tasted fabulous and the portions were generous! The seafood dish was particularly impressive: mussels, clams, squid, shrimp, and fish fillets served with rice, salad, and tortillas! We love the name as well!!

Carrie L.

Yelp
We came here late night after doing an escape room for Mother's Day. The food was pretty good but the service was the absolute best part of this visit. The man who served us, I think he was the owner, was awesome. So kind and friendly. He was truly interested in our experience at his restaurant. When we left he gave my mom a complimentary chocolate covered marshmallow for Mother's Day. It was very sweet of him.

charles c.

Yelp
Fantastic! Great food, fantastic value, and super friendly people. I will be back! I had the chorizo burrito, which came with outstanding chips and salsa for free. All for about ten bucks!
