Afghan House - Review - Rogers Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"This casual Rogers Park spot specializes in Afghan food. Afghan House's menu has dishes like qabili palaw with lamb shank, mantu filled with beef and onions, and a handful of different kabobs. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Afghan Saray - Review - Edgewater - Chicago - The Infatuation

"When we visited Afghan Saray in Edgewater, rain was pouring, tornado sirens were blasting, and we were just happy to have found a place to hide out and relax. And the food at this casual Afghan restaurant provided the comfort we needed during the storm. The menu has a variety of delicious, flavorful dishes, like thin potato-filled bolani, a zesty stewed eggplant with tangy yogurt, and a buttery uzbek qabuli with pilowy rice flavored by juice from the pieces of tender lamb mixed in with it. There’s plenty of room for group seating, and a cozy spot at the front where you can sit on the floor cushions by their big windows—just probably not during a tornado warning." - John Ringor

I stopped here with my wife and we had some of the best rice dishes we have ever hoped for. We ordered the Uzbeki palaw with lamb, chicken tikka boti, and Afghani naan. This place is truly a hidden gem. The moment the food arrives, the fragrance of the rice with saffron, cardamom, sliced browned carrots, and raisins hits you like a dream. We started eating so quickly that we had to remind ourselves to slow down and enjoy it. The milk tea is excellent as well. The prices feel like they are from another decade, very reasonable for the quality and portions. The service was warm and kind, and they guided us to some of their best dishes. We will definitely be going back and are so glad we discovered this spot.

Authentic delicious afghani food. Chapli kabob was the best! I would also recommend kabuli pulao. Karahi was also good but different from traditional Pakistani karahi, which I prefer. Overall good experience and quality food.

Google
Afghan House exceeded my expectations. The presentation of the dishes was excellent, and the food was fresh and flavorful. The kababs in particular were juicy and cooked to perfection. Service was friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. Overall, the quality and freshness of the food were more than enough to recommend this place — I’ll definitely be a returning customer.

If you are looking for amazing authentic Afghan food this is the place! Very delicious food, my favourite is the kababs, qabuli palaw and chapli kabab served with fresh Afghan bread. The quality of the food is great, fresh and very aromatic. Most importantly the customer service is great too, specially the owner Amirzada he is such a respectul person, Sidiqullah and Fahim were welcoming. If you are visiting in Ramadhan they have a buffet with reasonable prices and variety of options.

I tried their special platter and it was absolutely amazing! The dish came beautifully presented with perfectly cooked kabobs surrounding a generous serving of fragrant Afghan rice topped with carrots and raisins. Every bite was packed with flavor — the meat was tender and well-seasoned, and the rice had that authentic taste you can only get from true Afghan cooking.

During my two-week deployment in Chicago, I had the opportunity to try many different restaurants. However, today I visited Afghan House, and it was truly a memorable experience. We ordered the karahi, Uzbeki palow, and fish. Every dish was exceptionally well-prepared, full of authentic flavors, and beautifully presented. The taste genuinely reminded me of home and brought back wonderful memories of my home country. The service was excellent, friendly, attentive, and professional. Overall, it was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Chicago. I highly recommend Afghan House to anyone looking for authentic Afghan cuisine and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Google
This Afghan restaurant is amazing! The food was super delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. Everything we tried tasted great, and the portions were generous. They even serve fresh homemade bread, which was warm and made the meal even better — it’s a must-try! The prices were very affordable for the quality and amount of food. Great food and great value. I will definitely come back!”

Google
The Aghan House restaurant truly serves the best fried fish I’ve had in a long time. The taste instantly took me back to Jalalabad, Afghanistan crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and perfectly seasoned. The flavor is authentic, rich, and comforting, just like the fried fish we grew up enjoying. You can tell everything is made with care, from the freshness of the fish to the way it’s fried to golden perfection. Every bite is delicious and satisfying. If you’re craving real, traditional-style fried fish with amazing flavor, this is the place to go. Highly recommended!

Yelp
A restaurant at the quieter end of Devon where you can easily find free parking around the corner or paid out front. I believe something was wrong with their dough machine where they could not offer bolani or aushak that day. We got the mantu, the spinach sabzi, and the chicken tomato based sauce dish (half chicken) at the top of that menu section (forgot name) and naan. Was a great meal - just some leftovers to go home, so I think it's a little pricier than other meals in the area. We appreciate the difference in cuisine and having it close to home and not needing reservations like other Afghan options that have outgrown their humble roots. Got pictures of the food this time - next time menu?

Yelp
Tasty Ashak and Black Tea. Appropriate serving sizes. Loved the traditional seating arrangement. We had gone the when it had just opened for the day so many items were not ready to be prepared. Overall great experience!

Yelp
We originally came here, because we were looking for a restaurant open after 9 PM. I'm so glad we came! Delicious food, great service, and a pretty interior with nice artwork and moving colored lights. All the food we tried was delicious, but the standouts were the eggplant (melt-in-your mouth and delicious), the Afghan naan (a bit fluffier than Indian naan), and the green tea, which tasted like it had cardamon and black pepper in it. Everything was great.

Yelp
Never had afghan food. We decided to give it a try! Can't express in words what a delicious and delightful experience it was for me and my husband! We got the Family Dinner plate with Chicken Kabob, koobideh, lamb kabob kubideh, chicken , a big mountain of Qabil rice and Naan! We are looking forward to coming back and try other dishes!

Yelp
The food was pretty good, but service is somewhat lacking. Seating area is tight. Not bad overall.

Yelp
Really good Afghan food. They serve a sort of egg-drop soup with a little meat that will remind you that black pepper has real flavor (I'm not kidding - this soup is delicious). I had Qabuli pilao, which is a big pile of rice with caramelized carrot and raisins on top of a nice lamb shank. This is pure comfort food - simple, tasty, filling. My friend had lamb karahi, which is just amazing - it's meaty, spicy, sizzling, rich... just order it and find out how good it is.
