The 25 Best Restaurants In Minneapolis 2024

"For a speedy and satisfying lunch, stop by this local mini-chain for rice bowls, sandwiches, and gyros. Their Cedar-Riverside spot might feel like a fast food joint with brightly painted walls and quick service, but the McChicken has nothing on the tender yassa chicken marinated overnight in a secret spice blend. That’s always good to order, along with the Somali sweet spiced tea and their vegetable-filled samosa punched up thanks to some homemade chutney hot sauce." - stacy brooks

Finally made my way over to the location on Cedar/Riverside. Quality remains high and the employees were very nice. This time I ordered the large Afro steak dinner bowl and the hot and spicy wings appetizer. The Afro steak dinner is beef, veggies, and a delicious red sauce over basmati rice. It was perfect, absolutely delicious and you get a lot of food for the price. Came with a side of crispy fries. I also enjoyed the crispy and juicy mini wings. Overall, Afro Deli continues to deliver high quality Afro/Mediterranean fusion cuisine no matter which location you visit.

Fast casual and healthy! The food is worth fighting through the parking. I like this as a spot to hide and talk with my friend, I did get to have a five hour lunch with one of my mentees, and we had the place to ourselves for most of the afternoon. They do stiff delivery business so you will see drivers going in and out all day. You can smell the variety of spices even before you get to the door. There is no bland food anywhere on this menu. If you are shy on spices , try, just ordering the chicken fantastic. The baked section and dessert section changes and runs out quickly. So if you want baked goods, better to get an early lunch. BONUS TIP; They also have hummus that you can take home that is quite delicious .

Everything went downhill. Not sure if it’s new manager, ownership or some procedures but fries are way too heavy, greasy, and soggy. Wraps are fine, but often mangled. Food is fully cooked. If you never had it, try it once then move on. That’s about. Stay away from anything to-go and expect 16 dollars for fries and an entre.

I ordered a Somali sandwich steak with feta cheese and I made sure to provide all the details. While waiting, the staff told me not to sit at the table, but I was just standing close, leaning forward, with my backside touching the table. After some time, I received the wrong sandwich. When I approached the manager, she insisted I was sitting at the table and promised a refund, which I never received. Instead, she dismissed me and called security, who witnessed the whole situation and knew I wasn’t actually sitting. I felt disrespected in a restaurant that should uphold better values. We've supported Afro Deli since its early days, but it seems like customer dignity is no longer a priority. The manager recognized me as a regular who always orders the same thing, yet she didn't even offer to correct my order or let me wait for it. After spending 20-30 minutes on parking and waiting, I left empty-handed and frustrated after driving 30 minutes for nothing. I took their pictures because she refused to allow me to take picture of the food !

This place really hit the spot. They have a little bit of everything. Definitely good choice of different ethnic meals. Guy working there was super cool and really enjoyed the conversation. I was staying nearby and was really happy. I found it. Free parking in the back was a bonus.

Lunch was decent today, picked the chicken quesadilla option, tastes decent and chicken is well seasoned. However the creole sauce for the fries was a letdown as it had too much heat, not enough umami flavor I’m used to. All in all, pretty alright

Came here on a Friday for a late lunch around 2:30pm. It's a colorful space with a ton of seating. I got the 3-piece Chicken Sambusa and a large order of fries to share. I had heard rave reviews of the fries and they didn't disappoint. They're perfectly crispy and served fresh. The sambusa was also terrific, with a crispy shell and flavorful fillings. If you need to use the restroom, you have to ask an employee for the keys to the restroom located in the same building as the restaurant, but down the hall. I would definitely come back and try out more of the menu!

Salad with chicken for a high protein meal. Chapati wrap for a filling hot sandwich. My go to deli for quick good eats.

Yelp
I haven't been here in 8 years since my last review (I moved out of state). When I came back and ended up in MPLS, I had to stop by Afro Deli for my favs. I for the beef sambusas, chicken and steak entrees. All of them were fantastic as usual. I had craved these dishes for years! I highly recommend coming here.

Yelp
Been following Afro since their original location. My son worked there during college and 10 years later had them cater his rehearsal dinner! Amazing food, flavorful, healthy and vegetarian options too! My go to's: Chicken Fantastic and the Sambusas (veggie with lentils). Just right!!

Yelp
We had a convention in the area and were on our way home. We got there around 3 and there was a parking spot right out front. Sadly the AC was seriously lacking. We shared the hummus and pita. I loved this style more loose than solid. Great flavor. I always get a sambusa. Fried just right. The green sauce is too spicy for me so I dipped in tziziki sauce, just perfect. I had a bite of Basil's falafel and they smother it in tziziki. It's as delicious as it looks. I thought I'd need a salad, nope too full so I had it for a later dinner at home. I like the new fashioned soda machines. Basil got a strawberry fruit juice. Funny we never got around to ordering dessert. Zacharia took great care of us at the counter. Between the hummus and falafel I think we went through 20 napkins.

Yelp
Ate in and had the veggie plate. It was delicious, especially green sauce, hummus abd tzatziki. There is a lot of plastic that is used in the meal.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by Afro Deli and Grill. I've been to a few different African food serving restaurants before. I like AD&G they were staffed by seemingly Africans. AD&G was not. But the food had a lot of flavor and was the perfect temperature. I had the best sweet plantains. The food seemed very authentic and came out fast.

Yelp
I've been a fan for years now and I've always loved the food but I must say I'm disappointed in today's order. I paid extra for a sauce and it was not included I was also disappointed to see that they didn't include fries with my order. I'm not sure if things have changed since my last visit but there were fries always included in the order and if they did in fact change it to just sandwich that's unfortunate.

Yelp
I've been to a couple of their other locations and I think this is a really cool local chain! I don't know much about African cuisine, but I'm pretty sure the entrees on the menu here are creative concoctions inspired by African dishes but greatly informed by recipies from around the world. Every time I've been to any of their locations, I've made sure to get beef Sambusas, which make a great side or standalone snack; they are REALLY flavorful. The Chicken Fantastic is a popular entree for good reason, it tastes really really good and is a very fun combinations of flavors. They also have great, simple sides like fries, falafel, and chicken wings. The entrees come in two sizes; for me, the smaller size is big enough, but leaves me room for a couple of Sambusas! I learned a couple of years ago that this company is extremely involved in the community and gives generously to causes that help the needy locally and abroad. I really like knowing that, however, my guess is that most of their repeat customers are not aware of their generosity, and just really like this delicious food!

Yelp
Afro Deli is one of my favorite fast casual restaurants. I visit often for lunch and the service is quick and made fresh. I highly recommend ordering the Chicken Fantastic because it is truly - fantastic.

Yelp
New Afro Deli location! The food was excellent and the staff was super friendly. The owner checked in with us to see how we were liking things and thanked us for stopping in. I really liked the vegetable Sambusa!! Looking forward to trying other dishes here in the future!

Yelp
Food is amazing as always and the staff was very nice tonight and accommodating to me when I was having issues with my Apple Pay. 10/10 as usual :) Thank you so much!

Yelp
Good food in a simple environment. The staff was kind and friendly and service was quick.
