Ann Arbor’s Best Brunch Restaurants | Eater Detroit

"You know that 1970s pop song? Then it should be no surprise that Afternoon Delight opened in 1978 — and has remained the go-to downtown brunch spot for many locals for nearly 50 years. You can’t go wrong with the giant omelets, and the popular bran muffins (how very ’70s!) are baked fresh daily. If you’re more in the mood for the “unch” part of brunch, you can choose from a large variety of salads and sandwiches. Online orders can be placed at the restaurant’s site." - Mary Hayes Weier

Afternoon Delight - Review - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Angelo’s is far on the east side of campus near the hospital, which is why Afternoon delight is important to know if you’re on the west side closer to Main St. It’s another strong player in the brunch and lunch game. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

A lovely place! It was our first visit. The menu was posted at the door, giving you time to look at it before getting in line. It had so many great breakfast choices. We moved along the line and were greeted by a friendly, efficient person who took our order. The inside is so much more spacious than I thought it was from the outside view. We tucked away into a booth, and our drinks and orders arrived quickly. We had a create your own omelet with sourdough and half an order of eggs with hollandaise sauce over a potato pancake. I could easily make this a frequent breakfast spot. It truly is a delight.

Google
It's a very good place for brunch whether you are with your family or friends. It's perfectly located in Ann Arbor downtown. It may be difficult to find parking during the weekdays. They have plenty of breakfast options like omelettes, burgers, waffles and wraps. I would strongly recommend their fresh orange juice. The service and the atmosphere are excellent.

Got sandwiches during the Ann Arbor art festival! Despite the line being long and the restaurant busy, our food still came out pretty fast and was delicious!

Wow! I LOVE this place! Don’t skip the frozen yogurt fruit shake, it is big enough to share but you might not want to share haha. I got the blueberry frozen yogurt shake and the Hawaiian chicken sandwich.

I haven't visited there since the summer of 2003, so it's been nearly 21 years. The foods are outta this world!!!😝 Although, pricey, I'm very pleased with the service here. I'll probably visit here again sometime with my brother (he's also with me now)... Keep up the great service!😎👍🏾

We was in the Ann Arbor area after a Doc. Appointment, and was searching for a Breakfest joint to try out. So we came across Afternoon Delight. After checking out reviews and seeing it has great reviews we said why not lets give it a try. Nice spot, atmosphere was ok and service was nice. Pretty big Menu a lot to choose from and made my decision hard lol. So me and the wife decided to order: Malibu Club with Pasta Salad and Clam Chowder soup. 1. Pasta presention looks good, but the taste was blend. 2. Clam Chower came out looking watery got a little flavor but i wouldnt consider that clam chower at all. 3. Malibu Club came out huge, looks great but has no Flavor didnt care much for the béarnaise sauce didnt taste like anything. The only thing is ok was the imatation crab meat. Smoked Nova Salmon Eggs Benedict with a side of Hasbrown. 1. Smoked Nova Salmon Egg Benedict came out looking delicious the presentation and the taste was good. Great job to the chef/cook who prepared this dish. Wouldn't mind ordering this again. 2. Hashbrown was good cant go wrong with that, and i loved my hasbrowns. Not sure what the drink the wife order but that was also very good. You'll see it on the picture. Even though i give this place a low rating i wouldn't mind going back and trying other things from their large menuand giving them a 2nd shot. Who knows it might just be their off days but we'll see.

My salad tasted very fresh. Everything seemed really made. Healthy and tasty.

Google
was overcharged $0.50 for no reason. the item i ordered "a blueberry frozen yogurt sunday" was $6 on the menu, cashier charged me $6.50 for a "custom item" on the receipt. the food ended up being vanilla ICE CREAM with a few blueberries around it. no sundae, no blueberry flavored frozen yogurt, hell not even frozen yogurt.

Yelp
Best greasy spoon, although has become quite expensive (but where hasn't?). Quick service. Love the retro 90's interior design.

Yelp
At our friend's favorite brunch spot here in AA. After the counter area, it opens up to a dineresque dining area. Ordered at the counter: peppermint mocha with oat milk, no whipped cream, Italian omelet with blueberry muffin, oatmeal with almond milk and turkey Rueben with kraut and side of slaw. Service is quick at the counter, Clover is used for processing payments. $43.99 The peppermint mocha has pieces of candy cane on top, it's not bad. Food takes a bit of time to make and come out, probably is normal here. The green tea is as expected from Bigelow. The Italian omelet has fresh vegetables in it, it's good. The oatmeal is just plain oats, not steel cut oats either, it doesn't come with anything except for milk and brown sugar, not fruit, didn't realize they are separate. Pics on here were deceiving. The blueberry muffin is soft and has a different texture, not dense like a usual muffin would be. I can't decide if I like it or not. The Turkey Reuben is okay, pumpernickel is nice and crusty and crunchy. Would be even better with real roasted turkey slices instead of deli thin cuts. The side of slaw is not fresh and has an oddly unpleasant taste to it. My husband wouldn't even try it after I offered him to ask if he thought it was a bit odd. The food wasn't anything special, except maybe the Italian omelet.

Yelp
The service is SO slow. I waited 25 minutes and still didn't get my food. There are only a few tables of guests, not that they are super busy.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered the avocado toast which was disappointing. They don't use fresh avocado, rather some sort of spread. It also tasted like it was a little old. My husband and 15 year old son each got omelettes, they were nothing special. My 11 year old son got the kids pancake which he was very happy with. My husband also got a white chocolate mocha which tasted like warm milk. Servers were friendly, but unfortunately it was a very underwhelming experience.

Yelp
We had a great experience with Afternoon Delight catering our college grad's celebration brunch. We ordered the beautiful salmon platter, fruit platter and brownies. Everything was delicious and was presented so nicely. And the crackers included with the salmon platter were so tasty. Ordering online was also easy and communication with Kathy was seamless. Thank for a great catering experience!

Yelp
Busy little spot on the corner of Liberty/Fifth in Ann Arbor. They have a wide variety of breakfast and lunch items on the menu. The staff is pretty quick and work hard. You order at the counter whether you're dining in or taking it to go. Give them a try!

Yelp
Service great, food great! We both got the spinach quiche and me loves the fruit bowl and salad bowl.

Yelp
Very very busy on a Sunday. Long line to get an order in at the counter. But, when the food came out, I was so impressed with the freshness and the huge amount. If I lived in Ann Arbor, I would be here all the time. Our party of seven had everything from eggs Benedict, chicken salad, to cheese blintzes. Very very good.

Yelp
This was a great restaurant, but it is no longer even a good restaurant. Service is so slow it took over an hour to get the food after it was ordered.

Yelp
Looking for a great place for breakfast or lunch? Head over to Afternoon Delight. The food is always delicious. Breakfast in a Pocket - scrambled eggs with bacon & cheddar served with lettuce, tomato & ranch on a wheat pita Cinnamonfrench Toast - thick raisin bread soaked in egg & grilled to perfection. Topped with cinnamon butter, powdered sugar & syrup. Delicious!. I could eat this regularly. Oatmeal - served with strawberries, blueberries & small side of mill. Yummy!

Yelp
They've been around a long time, and so have I. Great food, excellent service, and a homey atmosphere! Come here and eat good food!

Yelp
Stopped here for brunch on a Sunday morning before hitting the road and so glad we did, best meal of our visit. The wait was about 20mins to make it to the register and put in our order/pay than we were seated. It took another 20mins to get our meal, but definitely worth the wait. I had the Reuben on sourdough and it's the best sandwich I've had all year. Nice amount of beef, sauerkraut and melts cheese. The only thing I added was mustard and *chefs kiss* the next time I'm in Ann Arbor I'll be running back. The rest of my party enjoyed their meal which included various omelets (the veggie was jam packed with greens), black bean quesadilla (which the picky eater in our bunch loved) and a few muffins to go. Great service and an even better breakfast.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in Ann Arbor. Great food and atmosphere highly recommend!

Yelp
I don't see the hype it was like cafeteria to me but my mom loved it and you serve yourself in a way.

Yelp
Came for brunch one a weekday and was surprised by their large inside space and menu! It looks smaller from the street. Ira counter ordering but delivery to your table. It was super fast. The outdoor tables were great. Glad we dined outdoors. It was my daughters birthday and so she got a free muffin! The coffee was excellent and we really enjoyed our boules. Will be back!

Yelp
Such a cute brunch date (they close pretty early at 3pm), highly recommend their cafe mocha too(not pictured) I knew i had to get the smoked nova salmon eggs benedict - the egg yolk pop was gorgeous of course (lightly salted, yum!) and the potato pancake was so well paired with the salmon- i was bursting by the time i left! The free bread was also top tier, there's just something about bread and butter, toasted perfectly with the right amount of crunch - it's so simple but it works so well! Also the omelette was HUGE, didn't think we could finish, but there was plenty of cheese in it to help it go down

Yelp
I wasn't super impressed by the freshness of the Asian chicken salad and my friend was a bit thrown off by the chicken salad and fruit plate served with the frozen yogurt. The muffins were alright. Nothing thrilling but many townies swear by it.

Yelp
WOW! This is the perfect breakfast/brunch spot when you are craving large portions and comfort breakfast food. We ordered three dishes and each was uniquely great. #1: chocolate chip pancake (5/5) This dish puts the cake in pancake. Each bite was incredibly fluffy and filling. The exterior had a nice crisp to it. Chips were wonderfully blended in. This is my favorite pancake in Ann Arbor and I think it's a must-order item to split with the whole table (personally it was too heavy for me to have more than a few bites of). #2: potato pancakes (4.75/5) I ordered this as my main dish and was very nicely surprised. The applesauce was incredible - so sweet and fresh. The pancakes themselves were nice and crisp. The dips complemented them perfectly. They were served warm, not hot, which I didn't love but that's my only complaint. #3: egg and sourdough (5/5) Simple, classic, and fantastically executed. Beware that the bread is served with butter on it -- I probably would've ordered without if I knew this was the case. If you're looking for the perfect breakfast spot, this is your sign! It gives diner vibes and isn't fine dining by any means, but the convenience, portion sizes, and overall experience are unmatched.

Yelp
Large portions and delicious coffee! I liked that you ordered and paid before sitting down to make things easier. I had the smoked salmon Benedict and I couldn't even finish it. My caramel latte was delicious as well

Yelp
My family has been coming here since this place opened in the late 70's. Everything they make is always fresh and made with love. Parking can be a little difficult, especially on the weekends. I would highly suggest getting here early as there can be a wait up to an hour especially during football season or the holidays. But honestly, it's worth the wait! The owners changed the original let the host greet you, wait 30+ minutes and then have a waiter or waitress serve you. Since COVID, it's more of a self-serve concept to cut down on the transmission of interactions between people (safety purposes). When you arrive be sure to read the big menu boards to the right of the entrance, that is where the menu items are located. From there you walk up to the register and order your food. Once you have completed payment, the cashier will give you a number. You can sit anywhere you'd like. A member of the waitstaff will bring you your food. Any additional things you may need such as a refill on coffee or water can be taken care of by asking a member of the waitstaff. Everyone is really nice, polite and super busy! The food is soooo delicious. Every morning they make HOMEMADE bran muffins with flavors such as: Blueberry, Chocolate Chip, Harvest, Peach, and a list of others. Don't forget to try their famous vanilla frozen custard or 'Twist' which is vanilla and whatever flavor of the week they have mixed together. Honestly, what more can you ask for? The pricing is just right, there is an food option for everyone in your family. From vegan to gluten-free, Afternoon Delight continues to be a staple of the Downtown community and I'm so happy that it's still running even after the pandemic. Keep up the great work!!!

Yelp
This was truly one of the most disappointing meals I have ever had in Ann Arbor. It has been at least ten years since the last time I came here and I don't remember it being so disappointing. We ordered a Reuben with potato salad, potato pancakes, a kids grilled cheese and vegetable soup . The Reuben was fine, nothing special. The potato salad was completely bland. The vegetable soup was also so bland and all the vegetables were super large and awkward. The soup truly felt like an afterthought. Everything needed salt and even with salt it was underwhelming at best. The potato pancakes were honestly the most disgusting things I have ever had out in a while. I actually commented how unappealing they looked when the waitress dropped them off and she said nothing. They were soggy, bland, and looked like they had been sitting out for a while. The kids grilled cheese was fine, my 2 year old had no complaints. I honestly give this review two stars because I also thought the service was bad. We were never checked on to see if we needed anything, the staff was not happy that we had a stroller (which fit under the table). It was an unwelcoming experience and I definitely won't be back the next time we visit Ann Arbor. The baked goods did look/smell good but we didn't try.

Yelp
Afternoon delight has the best muffins!!!! Love, love, love the blueberry and cherry. Chock full of fruit and oh so good heated with a bit of butter! I have gotten and loved these for many years. I have also had breakfast here and the basic eggs are good and the salmon Benedict is scrumptious. I really need to try their salads someday! Their raisin toast is to die for!!!!

Yelp
The best place for breakfast in Ann Arbor. The poached salmon Eggs Benedict are the best I have ever had. Be sure to get them on a potato pancake.

Yelp
My wife had lunch there and asked me to join her. She sat outside at a table, and I joined her after I had picked up a meal elsewhere. I didn't think it was a big deal, since my wife was a paying customer and eating outside, but we were told that there was no outside food. This wouldn't have been a big deal at all, I understand rules are rules (although there wasn't any signage anywhere saying no outside food). What I didn't quite understand is why I had to be chastised, like a child, by two different people even after I had stopped eating, and then given the side eye for the rest of my wife's meal. My wife thought her sandwich was fine but we both agreed we wouldn't be back.

Yelp
We stopped here for breakfast on a quick overnight trip to Ann Arbor. We had eaten lunch here years ago and decided to give breakfast a try. My Fiancé had the Belgian Waffle and I had the Smoked Salmon Benedict. The waffle was light and fluffy, and the Benedict was really good. Different hollandaise sauce than I am used too, but still very good. They only road bump was that we both ordered the espresso with foam, mine was so so but my Fiancé's had the taste of burnt coffee. We chose not to mention it as we needed to make it to our hotel for check in. We still recommend this establishment because the food is always fresh and the staff is very friendly.

Yelp
We will be back up in MI in September or August, on the way home from Alaska. Hope to stop in and see ya then! And thanks for messaging me Came back on 08/13/2019 for lunch. The salad bar was good but the clam chowder was like eating porridge, not soup! Everything else was OK. The best thing was the blueberry muffin that came with the salad.

Yelp
Pretty decent brunch in the heat of Ann arbor! Me and my bfs came at 9:30 on a Saturday and still had a very decent wait. An hour almost? But that may have felt like that cos I was super hungry... Probably 30 Mins. But I took that to mean that's a good sign. The only problem.with the wait is, it's not your typical place your name down and we will give you a call or call out your name but it's a stay in line even though it does get a little chaotic and be sure you know where you are in line cos ppl may cut you if you're way too nice... You have been warned! The atmosphere & service: it was cute and clean. Simple and sweet. White Walls with a cute Cobalt blue sign that greets you in. It looks kinda small from the entrance but there's a large area behind back so don't get too worried. The waitresses were friendly and fast and we got served our coffee almost right after we were seated, with drinks order taken as we sat down (if the wait is decent - may be worth while to choose what you want prior to sitting down) but thumbs up to the fast service The food: the main recommendation that I got was to try the 'raisin toast best ever!' the exclamation mark did not disappoint. It was so buttery, crunchy and cinnamony all at the same time. Like an explosion in my mouth of butter crunch and sweetness! A definite must try! We also had the eggs Benedict which was fine. Nothing to write home about in my opinion but decent that if you were craving it you cab have it. The English muffin underneath the hollandaise, egg and bacon was just too hard. I had a hard time cutting my food with my knife before eating it The baked salmon omelette. Well done. an omelette lightly covered with a thin layer of egg and a whole lot of salmon! Fresh salmon with asparagus, olives, onions and probably other stuff! They're ere so generous with how much salmon is in there! I was so impressed. The taste of course was amazing too! Salmon was well cooked and it too dry due to the vegetables that added moisture that made it a pretty well rounded dish And don't forget to order potatoes - we only realized after the the other orders were brought and ordered them right away. They were pretty quickly brought out. PS. A little birdie told me it's one of Michael Phelps favorite breakfast places

Rose S.

Yelp
I'd heard you had to get there early to avoid standing in line. We didn't need to be there at 8am when they opened. We had the coffee, OJ, blueberry muffin, bonanza bagel, eggs Benedict and meat boule. All were delicious and large portions. Like other reviews mentioned, the warm muffin was packed with blueberries. The eggs Benedict were unusual in that they were served with béarnaise sauce instead of hollandaise sauce but they were still delicious.

Yelp
I've come to love Afternoon Delight. Friendly, attentive, fast service combined with truly delightful food. For the first time this morning, we came for a filling game-day brunch. Our plan was to fill up on a big breakfast which would hold us through the game until dinner. And it worked! We arrived at 10 AM (noon game-time) and there was an extensive line out the door. It took us 1/2 hour to get to the front of the line & seated. This gave us plenty of time to decide on our order, so we could be efficient, have enough time to eat & enjoy our food, then walk to the Big House. It was worth sticking it out; I'm so glad we didn't leave!!! We were out the door by 11:05, happy and satiated. Our server as usual, helped us quickly and with a smile. We enjoyed two delicious garden omelettes. We each got a muffin with our order. Hubby chose cherry; I chose the harvest (a fantastic, hearty & flavorful choice!). Our omelettes arrived steaming hot. The sauce served with it complemented the dish perfectly. The vegetables inside were plentiful and well-prepared...Not overly cooked, still retaining some crunch. So tasty! Naturally, I also ordered fruit with froyo (cookie dough today). Mmmm.... Tip: If you do as we did last month and save your muffin for the plane ride home, don't leave it at your college son's apartment and forget to retrieve it! This tragedy befell us in September and we are still sad to have missed out on those muffins.

Yelp
Some of the best French toast I have ever had. It was great! The cinnamon raisin bread is made in-house and loaded with raisins, and sliced a bit thicker. It makes the perfect French toast. I was served 3 slices, I ended up giving one to my husband because they were pretty hearty. The coffee was great. My husband had cheese Blintzes with strawberries and enjoyed it. We were there about 10am on a Sunday morning. We fully expected a wait. There were only 3 people ahead of us. When we left around 11, the line was out the door and down the street!

Yelp
I have never dined in at Afternoon Delight, so I can't comment on the atmosphere or service while at the establishment. On the other hand, I do a lot of business with afternoon delight in a delivery/catering capacity, because we order a wide variety of food/meals from them at work on a regular basis. It is upon this that I am compelled to review. We regularly have events, training courses, and meetings in various locations, in varying sizes, and at different times of the day (thereby necessitating different types of meals) that we make an effort to provide food accompaniment for the participants' benefit. In this consistent need for high quality, affordable, and - especially - reliable food service, Afternoon Delight does not and has not let us down. They have a lot of great options for boxed lunches and platters/trays (for example, sandwich trays, dessert trays, fruit platters, potato salad platters, etc.), giving them the flexibility to provide for our needs no matter how large or small the group. The food is always fresh and enjoyable, and the options available are adequate to satisfy anyone. The food always arrives on time, is tightly and efficiently packaged, and is displayed in aesthetically pleasant ways. What is truly the big seller, though, is their adaptability and willingness to accommodate our needs. What do I mean? Well, people have dietary restrictions, and thus far Afternoon Delight has never given us any trouble in making modifications to our food orders when necessary. I'm vegan, for example, and they have on a number of occasions willing made me the Veggie Wrap but without the cheese and substituting on hummus instead. It always tastes great and I never have to worry about what to do if my food is messed up (dairy/meat cross contamination happens to me regularly enough that I rarely extend this level of confidence in a restaurant/food establishment to adequately address my dietary needs), which means a lot. Admittedly, as for me the vegan, there aren't a whole lot of options for me to choose from at Afternoon Delight, but there are nonetheless good tasting and quality food items that I can order, and I am happy about that. I don't eat from here every week, so it doesn't matter if I only have a few choices; when the times come that I will be eating from here, I can look forward to my Veggie Wrap. I am willing to bet that their Carry Out service is just as excellent, and I can easily imagine it is a pleasant experience to Dine In as well. There are plenty of other reviews that attest to just that. If you haven't tried them out, I recommend seeing to that and giving them a go. Sky rockets in flight? Afternoon Delight.

Mike O.

Yelp
We visit Afternoon Delight most Sunday mornings because the food is so good and the staff treat everyone like they are special. Owner Jo is usually taking the orders and offering an amazing variety of choices. The waitstaff, especially Amanda, make sure the coffee and the smiles are always flowing. If you've not been to Afternoon Delight you are really missing something.

Yelp
Solid food. The pecan waffle was very good. Service was fast and friendly. We had no wait time to get in, but classes are done.

Yelp
Family favorite for over 15 years! Quality is always 5 star. Pancakes, sandwiches, bagels and more. All delicious!

Richard M.

Yelp
People in line in front of use told us to go ahead because they hadn't yet decided what they wanted to order. So we thanked them and went to place our order, but the elderly man behind the cashier insisted that he was going to wait until the prior customers decided what they wanted. Weird and awkward for everyone. Took them a long time to decide what they wanted. Then it took forever for the food to be delivered to our table, and when it arrived it was lukewarm. Would not recommend the omelette, which was really more of a giant egg pancake with stuff thrown inside (see picture). Maybe this restaurant hasn't quite got up to speed since the pandemic... I certainly hope they improve in the future.

Yelp
This was recommended by some cool people. The food was awesome. Cheese blitzes & potato pancakes just like bubby would make them. Shakes are coming out like old fashion malt shop. Other than waiting for 1 other meal at our table, this place is awesome!

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday morning around 10 with mom; the wait was about ten minutes. There were a lot of people already seated and eating. It's quite loud in here, but I don't have to shout to hear my mom. We ordered a cup of drip coffee, two waffles, one pecan and one with frozen yogurt. Each waffle was $8.50, which I think is way overpriced for a singular regular sized waffle. The coffee was brought out almost immediately, and the food arrived in about 10 minutes. The coffee is very good and very strong, pleasantly surprising for diner coffee. The waffles were good, there were two giant swirls of frozen yogurt on mine and plenty of pecans in the other waffle. The frozen yogurt is a nice touch, though it made the majority of my waffle soggy and I don't like soggy anything. But the non-soggy parts were crispy and melt-in-your-mouth. The pecan waffle was really good, the pecans added a great texture and flavor to the already delicious waffles. Service is good considering how many people there are, and the hostess and our waitress were friendly. Definitely would recommend if you're looking for a breakfast/brunch place!

Yelp
My go-to brunch spot in Ann Arbor. It's a bit more old-school than the other top brunch places in the area, strong cafeteria/diner vibes. They also don't serve alcohol, but the excellent food more than makes up for it. Their malibu club is an all time favorite of mine off their lunch menu, it's a delicious mish-mash of turkey, crab, guac, bearnaise, and some veggies on a croissant. Can't recommend it enough, the individual ingredient quality is high across the board and it all just comes together perfectly. Also strongly recommend the eggs benedict if you come in for breakfast. They also have an extensive dessert menu, I always order the frozen yogurt (berry patch typically, but the banana split also hits) and the smoothies are great too. AD is a timeless Ann Arbor classic. Just can't be beat when it comes to local brunch spots.

Yelp
Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight. Gonna grab some... Afternoon Delight. I'm sure that many a joke has been made about Afternoon Delight, but all kidding aside, Afternoon Delight is a lovely place to grab brunch in Ann Arbor. It looks small and unassuming from the outside, but the inside is actually quite spacious. We opted to try: - Seafood omelette: This was on the specials menu. The flavor was good and there was plenty of seafood stuffed in it-- crabmeat, scallops, etc. Not sure if the seafood was fresh, but it was good in omelette form and I wasn't feeling particularly picky. Also plenty of cheese, which I appreciated. - Rasin Toast Best Ever!: I mean with a name like that, how can you go wrong? One of my friends who lived in Ann Arbor for a while told me that Afternoon Delight was her favorite brunch place while she was here and that I had to try the raisin toast. I'm usually not the biggest fan of sweets, but I really liked this raisin toast! The toast slices were thick and chock full of raisins and syrupy, buttery goodness. Yummy! - Cold brew coffee: Surprisingly good for diner coffee. Service was good. (Though the girl doing coffee refills seemed a bit grumpy when we went...) Pay at the counter! tl;dr: A pretty solid brunch place-- would recommend!

Yelp
Love me some Afternoon Delight. It's just so...reliable...and predictable. And that is always a plus when you're hungry. You want to go where you know you'll love the food. And AD does that for me every single time. I seriously have never had a bad experience there. Because I know what I want, I ordered the Salmon Benedict with a pancake topped with fresh strawberries and bacon. The pancake was huge, light, and fluffy - everything you think a pancake should be. And the fresh strawberries were a fresh addition and a nice pop of color. The bacon was nice and crisp. And the salmon Benedict did not disappoint as normal. Will continue to keep AD in my rotation.

Yelp
I moved away sixteen years ago, but they still remember me. I ate here often then, and whether it was breakfast, brunch, or lunch, the food, especially the house baked breads and muffins, were always superb. The clam chowder, while not on the same level as what you'd get in Boston still remains the best you can find in Ann Arbor. Today I tried one of the many lunch specials that augment their already impressive menu. An Italian sub sounded great, as recommended by the the wonderful gal who starts the ordering process. Further down the line where you pay the owner, Tom, remembered me and made me feel welcomed. Another fellow who has been there 33-years also greeted me warmly and inquired about my mother's health. This is only possible at longtime staples of the community. Whereas numerous restaurants and stores have come and gone, Afternoon Delight endures. The Soup: just right, potatoes and clams ratio is balanced, and they use roux (clarified butter and flour) to thicken the soup along with the cream. 4.5/5 stars for a Midwest version of clam chowder. The salad: I made it from the salad bar so of course it rocked! 5/5 stars. The sub: warm and moist. The bread here is FUC'n amazing! My only complaint, albeit a small one, is the sandwich drips so watch out for your clothes when devouring this one. Excellent meats stacked high and melted provolone cheese makes this a wonderful meal. The quality of the meats is evident and overall I rate it 4/5. The total with water to drink was $14.52. So while not cheap, you get a quality product and a lot of it too. I came hungry and left sated.

Yelp
College town. Went before season opener of U of M football. Place was really busy. We waited in line for 5 minutes. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was amazing. Veggie omelette with cheese was delicious. But my favorite was the strawberry waffle topped off with a twist of vanilla and strawberry yogurt! It's heaven. The yogurt is more like soft serve. Just the mix of warm waffle fresh strawberries and cool smooth sweet yogurt. Must try!

Yelp
This is a nice and spacious breakfast spot. We came here for breakfast on Easter Sunday and enjoyed a relaxing meal with friendly service. We ordered the ~$14 Fresh Poached Salmon Eggs Benedict, consisting of salmon served on a toasted whole wheat English muffin with cream cheese, capers, red onions, poached eggs and topped with béarnaise sauce, and the ~$11 Western Omelette, consisting of ham, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese with toast on the side. The food was good, but nothing stood out as that memorable. If you're looking for a comfortable diner-esque meal, I would recommend trying this place out for breakfast or lunch.

Yelp
I was taking a walk in the area and looking for a bakery so I stopped inside. I got the peach and blueberry muffins. The widely hailed muffin mentioned by other reviewers did not live up to its name. The muffins were both exceptionally springy, almost like a chewy bread. They also lacked sweetness and were shaped pretty oddly-square tops. The peach muffin had no discernable peach flavor, despite some scattered peach chunks visible. The blueberry muffin was better, as I could tell they put their own fresh blueberries into the muffin. I also read about the option of having your muffin grilled, but it was not an option presented to me when I ordered the muffins. At home, I tried eating the muffins with some ice cream, which made them better but only because of the ice cream's flavor. Perhaps they made some kind of mistake in making their muffins today? The texture was unlike any muffin I'd ever had before. My sister commented "that was probably the worst muffin I've ever had." I would be fine if it was called something other than a muffin, because I expected a muffin and that certainly isn't what I got. Maybe "whole grain bread with fruit chunks" would be more accurate.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite breakfast spots to go to especially when i have friends and family visit from out of town! We went this past Sunday and even though it was pretty busy, our server Jo was very fast and attentive to our needs. I had the Belgian waffle special with Cheese Eggs and potatoes. ( my go-to). First, I must say their potatoes are to die for, Well seasoned and roasted to perfection. I also tried some of my friend's seafood omelette and it was so good that I had to take a few more bites. To top it all off , we must have come on a great day because we got a blueberry muffin that was so soft and warm, perfect with some butter added. The atmosphere is comfortable and you don't have to be dressed up to come to this cool brunch spot. You can get seated, have your food and still relax and have nice conversations with who you're eating with. Or if you come alone you can relax with a good book and drink some tea/coffee. I love this place and I haven't found a better cook-to-order diner in downtown AA yet!

Yelp
Another institution, and great for its price point. I would avoid omelets here since they are nothing extraordinary, but I still dream of their muffin delights (seasonal muffins with homemade froyo). Out of most of the seasons I've been here, the blueberry, peach, and harvest continue to be my absolute favorites. The veggie delight and veggie bowl pack a punch too with the sunflower seeds adding a crunchy twist to an otherwise regular sandwich. Pro tip: If you get a side, choose their muffin. You will be too full to move with just your order, and the muffin can be warmed at home and eaten with ice cream. You're welcome.

Yelp
Afternoon Delight has been a part of my repertoire since winter of 1986 when I came for a recruiting visit. I've always loved the tasty food with lots of veggies and a relaxed atmosphere. That changed today as I was looking forward to a nice lunch with an old friend. Right from the get-go, a tall woman with an orange kerchief was very argumentative and rude to my friend, when she noticed that the ordering had changed. Instead of being friendly and welcoming, the woman argued with my friend as to when changes to the restaurant had occurred. My friend was taken aback because she was just trying to have a conversation with her, so her rudeness came as a bit of a shock. Ordering was a little better, but still not the warmest reception. Plus, we were distracted by all of the signage throughout with rules as to what customers can and can't do. The woman with the orange kerchief continued with her surliness as she barked at us that we needed to put the number for our table where she could see it. So sorry, as we were catching up and had forgotten. Her disdain for us was palatable to the point of making my autistic daughter very uncomfortable. As we got up to leave, she continued with her rudeness as we were clearly in her way and scowled at us as we apologized for our incompetence. Finding a box for our leftover food was a challenge and more curt behavior from the woman behind the counter when we inquired. Look, I get that it's tough being in the service industry today, but the fact of the matter is, it's part of being in this arena, also a smile goes a long way to having customers come back. I'm sad, but after the staff's behavior today, we won't be.

Yelp
Afternoon Delight is a solid brunch spot. I love this place because it's one of the few places in Ann Arbor that offer an eggs benedict, which I am constantly craving for my weekend brunch. Even though lines get really long, you're guaranteed to be seated pretty quickly. I also really like that the host asks if you'd like water, coffee, or tea the moment that you get seated. That way, you usually have your beverage before your waitress or waiter even gets to you. Even if they don't, someone comes to check in on you pretty soon after you get seated. The first few times I came here, I'd get their omelettes. I'm not sure why, but they always turned out with so much liquid oozing out of the omelettes (?). I'd have to dab the side of plate with my paper napkin to soak up the moisture -- something I've never had to do with an omelette before. I've since then turned towards their waffles, pancakes, and eggs benedicts instead -- which are all incredible. I think that their eggs benedict on the potato pancake is especially great as it adds extra flavor to the dish. All in all, it's a great spot to get brunch! I personally would refrain from their omelettes, but everything else I've tried here has been great. The friendly and attentive wait staff is also a huge plus!

Yelp
Never going back k again. We literally waited almost 2 hours for our food. No one was able to give coffee refills. When the food got there mine was cold and the other food was fine at best. And for a couple of sandwiches to spend $80 is ridiculous. Waitstaff was also extremely rude..
