We stopped in for lunch at Agave House today, and were pretty happy with it! The space is very light and airy, with colorful decor and great music playing.
We started with chips and salsa, for which you can pick three salsas. We got Salsa Verde, Tata's Hot, and Morita. All three were very good; the Salsa Verde and Tata's were pretty standard red and green salsa, but the Morita had a much more robust flavor that I enjoyed.
We got the carne asada tacos and the quesabirria tacos, and both types of tacos were quite good! The quesabirria in particular had good seasoning, and the tortilla held up well to the moisture levels of the meat and jus. The rice was fine, but the beans were, frankly, disappointing. The beans had very little flavor, despite what appeared to be meat of some variety in the mix with them. Maybe dumping in salt or salsa would have helped, but I didn't bother trying. I only took a few bites before abandoning them completely, since they only took away from how good the tacos were.
Our server was very friendly, and the food came out quickly and piping hot.
Other than the lackluster beans, my only other negative note is the price, which just felt a bit high for a casual meal of tacos. The food is good, but it's hard not to do the mental "oh, but I'd only pay $X for this same meal at _____" game when there are so many amazing taco spots in Tucson. Having said that, though, I'd say it's a strong option if you're looking for a fun, sit-down Mexican meal next to campus.
