Goa, India Dining Guide to the Food & Drink Scene | Eater

"A secluded small-property collection of nine rooms across three villas set on a quiet bay, renowned for a table d’hote fine-dining program led by a chef who emphasizes Indian and Goan dishes (notably a rava-fry prawn thali), two frangipani-shaded pools, and a dramatic tree-house suite nested in a centuries-old banyan; rooms are premium-priced in high season." - Zinara Rathnayake

Ahilya By The Sea, Near Nerul, Goa, India - Explore & Book

"Staying at Ahilya is like visiting the home of that wealthy, eccentric and extremely tasteful aunt you always wished you had. Three graceful, Balinese-style villas are stuffed to the gills with the most fabulous treasures, carefully curated from the owner’s lifetime of exotic travels: African masks, Hindu statuettes, Burmese bowls, a gilded altarpiece. Every nook holds something old and beautiful to be admired. The villas - each with 2-4 airy rooms - are tucked amidst lush, tropical gardens, but give out onto the wide-open bay, where fishermen work and cetaceans play. (We watched dolphins as we sipped our sundowners.) Elsewhere, two crystal-clear swimming pools provide cool retreat from the strong Goan sun. The food is inventive and delicious, produced with painstaking attention to each guest’s individual needs and preferences. Service could not be more gracious. If it’s adventure you crave, there are plenty of attractions outside Ahilya’s bougainvillea-covered walls: sturdy, colonial-era forts and churches, flashy new art galleries and museums, glittering night markets. But you'll be relieved to return to Ahilya in the evening - a serene, intimate and elegant retreat for the most discerning guests. Highs The peace, tucked away from Goa's tourist hordes All the fine touches and impeccable service of a top-class hotel, yet the warmth and intimacy of a family homestay A gorgeous infinity pool and a spa offering massages Great for all - couples, friends, a family or a small group. You can request 1 room, 1 villa, even the whole place, depending on your needs Feels like an Ali Baba’s cave, filled with handsome antiques, handicrafts and wall art Lows Don’t come for the local beaches. The nearest is a working fishermen's beach - it’s scenic (from a distance) but dirty. Decent ones are a day trip away With such personalised service, menus are planned well in advance; lunches and dinners have to be requested with 2 hours' notice The outdoor dining area can get very hot (though eating indoors, under the AC, is an option) A strict payment and cancellation policy" - Kate Darnton

This is definitely the best hidden gem Goa has to offer. Nested right next to the beach, this place offers the best view. I stayed here for one night and really wished it was longer. The staff is super friendly, and chef Avinash is hands down the best - based on our taste preferences he recommended some amazing food options which truly did not disappoint at all. The rooms are very spacious and overlook the ocean. This property has really preserved their heritage and I can’t wait to go back again soon! If you are visiting Goa, please book this for the guaranteed best time!

Our first trip to India, and we have left our hearts behind at Ahilya by the Sea.|This a most special place, where you're embraced by the warmth and smiles of every member of staff. Nothing is ever too much trouble.||We have never stayed anywhere quite like it. The beautiful Balinese-style villas, adorned with artefacts that reflect the rich colonial history of Goa, create a truly unique and atmospheric setting.||The cuisine was exceptional — we especially enjoyed discovering Indian Chardonnay and cooking our own Thali with Chef ! ||The lush gardens and serene pool offered an oasis of peace and relaxation. Every detail, from the surroundings to the carefully curated itineraries, reflected the thoughtfulness and hard work of the team.||We can't wait to return. |A sincere thanks to all the wonderful staff at Ahilya .|Leonore and Jonathan Moritz

Staying at Ahilya by the Sea is like stepping into a serene dream—where time slows, the sea sings softly to the shore, and every corner whispers of thoughtful elegance. The hospitality is not merely service; it is heartfelt, gracious, and deeply personal, like being welcomed into a home woven from care and charm. Each moment spent there feels wrapped in quiet luxury, where nature and comfort dance in perfect harmony. It is not just a place to stay—it is an experience to be remembered, cherished, and longed for once you've left. A true five-star haven, in every sense of the word.

An absolutely fantastic stay, our room was clean, well appointed and yards from the waves ! |The staff are absolutely fabulous, they’re always on hand without being obtrusive, and always a smile. The best part was waking up early, sitting in your own space, sipping chai and watching the fisherman at work. |The chef is exceptional, the meals we had were perfect.|I totally 100% recommend this hotel, you won’t regret it

Easily the best we’ve had in Goa. Ahilaya is truly a magical place. Perfect for a calm, luxury get away. I can’t wait to visit again. It’s gorgeous during the monsoon season.
