The Best Falafel in London

"Another version of tameeya, here it is worth ordering in a khobez wrap, which, in addition to fresh salad and a vinegar and garlic-laced tahini sauce, comes with the surprise of marinated aubergine. The tameeya themselves are well-balanced, with plenty of spice and herb that doesn’t go too far and overwhelm the fava bean flavour. One major perk is that it is less than 100 metres from Edgware Road station and at £3.30 for a wrap, falafel wraps don’t come cheaper." - Joel Hart

The Best London Pasta Dishes That Aren’t From Italy - Eater London

"Ahl Cairo, just outside Edgware station, serves some of London’s better falafel. It’s the arguably superior pistachio-coloured Egyptian kind, taameya — made with fava beans and plenty of herbs, it is moister and more freshly flavoured than its chickpea counterpart. Taameya is often eaten in flatbread for breakfast and is just £3.25 for takeaway, but later in the day, Ahl Cairo’s pasta offerings come into their own. Try the popular carbloader, koshary, which is a mixture of lentils, vermicelli, rice, and craft bead macaroni, topped with tomato sauce and crispy onions. Another favorite Egyptian pasta, baked macaroni bechamel, is also on the menu. Open all day every day, for takeaway right now." - Hester van Hensbergen

Good food and atmosphere. I think the place needs some renovation. Very steep and narrow stairs that could get slippery easily in winter. Hwawshi was good! Koushari is a must get. But remember to "reserve" the dessert in advance as it might get sold out by the time you're done with your food. Great customer service.

Great authentic Egyptian restaurant (Full review please read) By the way, I am Egyptian, I know how to cook Egyptian food and I am a bit fussed about my food. 🤓 Food Mahshi: ❤️❤️Mahshi is basically vegetables such as aubergine, courgettes, peppers, vine leaves and cabbage leaves stuffed with rice, herbs ans special spice. It was absolutely amazing and just as they would be made at an Egyptian home. I tried it on two different days and they were as awesome as they could be. Seriously the best you could ever have. 10/10👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Hawawshi: Hawawshi 🫓is grilled (minced meat in pitta-like bread). They use mince lamb here. It was good. I think they tried their best making it as close as the Egyptian version but I still think it is not 100% as the original one that would get in Egypt. In Egypt, it would have more spices and made with different bread, but those don’t necessarily exist in the UK so I am not really blaming them. I think they are trying to make it as simple as possible so that it matches all tastes. Molokhia (green soup): Molokhia 🍵is a jute leaf, considered a vitamin-rich superfood that's reputed to be a sleep and digestion aid as well as to improve eyesight. It is basically finely chopped jute leaf cooked in chicken or beef stock. Unbelievably delicious but it is like Paris, you either love it or hate it. It was very nicely cooked and would recommend it. Make sure you ask them to put the (Tasha) on top of it. Tasha is crushed garlic and dried coriander stir fried in butter. Absolutely delicious. 🍵 Fattayer: (similar to puff pastry) which is stuffed with mince beef. It was good. And it will look like pizza and good if you want to share. Chicken stock soup with (risoni pasta): It is basically Risoni pasta cooked in chicken stock. In Egypt we call the ‘Risoni pasat’ as ‘bird’s tongue’ because it is the same shape as a bird’s tongue, but it is nit actually a bird’s tongue; it is literally just pasta). You could have this on the side or as a starter, it was nice. Mehalabeya: Milk and vanilla Pudding. It is an Egyptian dessert made of milk, corn flour, vanilla and sugar. I definitely recommend it. Basbousa: Another Middle Eastern/ Mediterranean dessert. Mainly made of semolina, sugar syrup. Nice. Staff: The staff are very nice and friendly especially Mr. Ahmed who is a very gentle man. Prices: The prices are fairly reasonable. Location: The location is very convenient, near bus stops and the underground station. Venue: You can sit and eat in the restaurant downstairs, they have enough space for larger groups too. Would I come back again? Without a doubt definitely coming back!!!!

I was invited here by try authentic Egyptian cuisine. I must say, this was an amazing experience. Value for money, traditional dishes which were deliciously superb. Everybody must try the pigeon, stuffed aubergine, the green peas lamb tagine and indulge in Egyptian food! Interior is cosy and homey, DONT be fooled by the small entrance, this place is a tardis like from Dr. Who and has a great seating area downstairs.

Great food and great service, except, I would like Egyptian rice to go with my Molokhia, not Basmati rice. But maybe it wasn’t available only when I was there.
