"Ai Wei Ju, which opened this past May in the former Five Stars Hue space in Alhambra, is here to serve folks itching for a taste of Beijing street food. Step inside the restaurant to find the proprietress standing over a circular griddle preparing the restaurant’s signature jian bing. While the egg-battered pancake parcels taste good with just green onions and a slathering of fermented black bean sauce, the addition of beef, tripe, or even pigs ears makes for a more substantial dish. The slippery cold noodles slicked with vinegar and chile oil, along with the chilled seaweed and pan-seared dumplings, rounds out any meal well." - Eater Staff

In Short, Simple but an explosion of flavors. With a few more details, We didn’t know what to expect. Sometimes we go to places that take us out of the comfort zone and love to try new things. It was my first Chinese pancake, I’m sure it has a better name, (Joan Bing) and I was in love. The egg, the meat that just melts in your mouth is just scrumptious. Definitely braised slow cooked meat in the wrap. I could eat 6 of those but we had other places to try. I HIGHLY recommend you go here and get some in your belly. Dumplings were good but not the highlight.

This store is next to the main road of Alhambra in the Chinese district. There is a large parking lot next to Pacific Place. It is very convenient to get here. The traffic is also very convenient. There are many Chinese and non-Chinese customers here. The pancakes in this shop are very delicious. Many people come here to eat them. The characteristic taste of northern China is very authentic. The boss’s service attitude is also very good. I like it very much.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ai Wei Ju, a newly opened Beijing-style restaurant in Alhambra. Run by a friendly mother and son duo, this charming establishment offers a delightful experience that celebrates childhood favorites and authentic Chinese street food. The highlight of Ai Wei Ju is undoubtedly their jian bing, a traditional Chinese savory crepe that is a beloved staple of Beijing cuisine. With a variety of fillings to choose from, these jian bings are a true treat for the taste buds. Whether you prefer classic combinations or more adventurous flavors, Ai Wei Ju caters to all palates, ensuring that each bite is packed with deliciousness. The crepes themselves are skillfully made, with a thin and crispy texture that perfectly complements the rich and flavorful fillings. Another standout dish at Ai Wei Ju is their potstickers. Stuffed with a delightful mixture of shrimp and pork, these dumplings are a testament to the restaurant's commitment to quality and taste. Each bite delivers a burst of succulent flavors and a satisfying balance between the tender filling and the crispy exterior. It's evident that great care is taken in crafting these potstickers, making them a must-try for any visitor. The menu at Ai Wei Ju also includes jelly noodles, a dish that exemplifies the wonderful textures and flavors of Beijing cuisine. The noodles have a unique and delightful consistency, perfectly chewy and satisfying. Combined with the restaurant's flavorful sauces and toppings, the jelly noodles create a harmonious blend of tastes that will leave you craving for more. As a lover of Beijing food, I can confidently say that Ai Wei Ju offers an exceptional dining experience. The authenticity of their dishes, coupled with the warm and friendly atmosphere created by the mother and son team, creates a sense of nostalgia and comfort. Whether you're a fan of jian bing, potstickers, or other Beijing delicacies, you'll find all your favorites here. In conclusion, if you're in Alhambra and craving Beijing-style cuisine, Ai Wei Ju is an excellent choice. The dedication to quality ingredients, the skillful execution of traditional recipes, and the warm hospitality of the owners make this restaurant a hidden gem. Don't miss the opportunity to indulge in their jian bings, savor the delectable potstickers, and experience the delightful flavors of Beijing at Ai Wei Ju.

Google
I greatly enjoyed my first experience eating Jian Bing here. The rolls were stuffed full of the meat we ordered and made fresh to order. I also really enjoy the hot soy milk served in bowls. The prices were very fair and it was great for breakfast. I think the Jian Bing could use a bit more of the savory sauce and it would be great to be able to have combination of both beef and tendon but I'm sure that you can ask that custom request if you really wanted to. Service was very friendly and cozy.

Located in a plaza with many other shops. Street parking or in the lot, plenty of spots anytime of day. We came for the Jian bing but the dumplings stole the show!! ⭐️ the pork and chive dumplings were like soup dumplings, with flavorful, savory juices inside. The filling mixture was very good! I would def come back for them and may even buy a frozen pack to make at home. The Jian bing is of course made fresh, right in the front dining area! 1 order was perfect for us to share as 2 people. We came at 2pm and it wasn’t too busy. The staff was very kind. The prices are fair and it was a great meal.

Google
Interesting crepe-style chinese food. Not sure I’d go back anytime soon but if you’re in the area it’s a fun dish to try.

Google
We found this place and we really like it ! We tried these pancakes in Beijing once, and they taste the same ! The staff is really nice and the food is good! Definitely will come back soon!

Google
This place is fantastic! If you’re craving pan fried dumplings and Chinese pancake, this should be on your list of usuals! This restaurant is super clean and the foods looks and tastes very fresh! I ordered pan fried dumplings and pancake with beef, my mom ordered beef soup noodle. They were all excellent especially the pancake with beef! Like seriously. Everything was downright delicious!!!!!! It’s amazing! Go check it out! Their portions are super generous!!!!

Yelp
This place is totally old school, and delicious. Located in the old Phoenix building, it's almost like they said "F it" to making the interior nice at all, and I appreciate that. It feels like I'm in Asia at some local place down the street from my parents' home. Service is great. The person who took our order seems to be the owner and chef as well, and she was brusque and kind (not nice and sweet - you know that customer service tone that folks put on that feels inauthentic? Yea that), making light recommendations about where sauces were and such. The restaurant is clearly family owned, and sometimes people come in and out and you can't tell if they are other guests or part of the family staff. We went on a weekend for lunch, kind of later in the day, so we and another couple were the only ones there. Got the vegetarian dumplings (these were delicious) and the 煎餅 with 油條. In and of itself, it doesn't have much flavor (since it's the bing, eggs, and the oil stick), so you have to stick it in some sauce. Also got the soy milk - you can either put sugar in, or what we did is asked them to heat it up more, and put in some vinegar and soy sauce to make a stripped down version of the savory soy milk that you get at Taiwanese breakfast places. All in all, great experience. They also take Zelle for payment. Parking is easy, in the huge lot, and there is a coconut jelly place right next door that is delicious (albeit, a completely different feel of space).

Yelp
Small little shop where they make each of the pancakes to order just like a street food vendor. There are tables that you can sit and order and they will bring it to you, but you can also order to-go since they wrap it pretty well. We got a pig ear pancake and a beef pancake. I think the pig ear was better since you have the nice crunch and change of texture. The pickled cucumbers are a nice balance the sauce it comes with is good. You can order a huge bowl of hot or cold soy milk for $2 that is very comforting.

Yelp
Ai Wei Ju is located next door to Coconut Jelly King. There is actually plenty of parking in the back and there is also outdoor seating available through the back entrance as well. Since I was in the area and had Ai Wei Ju bookmarked on my Yelp, my husband and I decided to come here and make a to go order this past Monday, around 4:30 pm. We were greeted by an employee and handed menus to look over. We ended up purchasing: Pancake (Thin Crispy + Beef), $11 prior to tax- This pancake comes in two large pieces (or one large crepe that was cut in half) and was made to order. It was nice watching the employee make our crepe/ pancake. The crepe itself was good and the beef filling was delicious. My mom and husband both enjoyed this and would order this again. Pork & Napa Dumpling, $13 prior to tax- I am not sure how many pieces this comes in but I had 13 pieces in my order. And from other Yelp member's photos, I counted 13-15 pieces so I guess it is just random. Anyways, we ordered these to be fried but you can also order them to be steamed. The dumpling was good. Jelly Noodles, $6.59 prior to tax- My husband decided to order this side dish. I think the portion size is fair for the price. The wide noodles were good and perfectly cooked. Came with some cucumbers for added freshness, I liked the sesame peanut sauce that it came with (which was placed on the side). ------------------------ (Total= $33.73 after tax) Wait time for our order wasn't too long and customer service was friendly. I would definitely come back to this restaurant again in the near future.

Yelp
I admit it, an IG reel brought me here for their Jiang bing and yes, it was fun to see it made in person. I didn't add any meat to it as a vegetarian and there are 2 ways to choose the bing. I chose the thin crispy way and the texture was good but there wasn't much flavor. Still, I would definitely be back to this restaurant because they are locally owned, are a mom and pop, and have great food, Someone from the back had a big resemblance to our waiter, that's nice to see a family owned business. I digress though, what I was truly impressed with was my vegetarian dumplings. They were hand made apparently in the back so it took longer, but they were so delicious! The filling was very moist and I keep thinking about going back for them. They were also perfectly crispy. I will say though that they taste best fresh. Their sesame noodle was also a good portion and tasty as well. It's a small shop and clean.

Yelp
A small shop but, colorful storefront. As part of a food crawl, my friends and I started here for breakfast. It was so good! We ordered soy milk, jelly noodles, beef tripe crepe, sausage crepe, regular crepe, and yuotiao (chinese doughnut). The soy milk goes so well with all the food items we ordered. The yuotiao was seasoned and went well dipping in the soy milk which I added a bit of sugar. All the crepes were delicious, light, crispy, but filling. The jelly noodles were seasoned well with the sauce provided very good as well. The food came out quick and fresh, we were the only ones in the restaurant. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
My wife was craving noodles, so I was looking at various noodle places near us, and I found this jianbing restaurant that also served soup noodles. I had not had jianbing in a solid year or so, so I decided to stop by this place for lunch with my wife. It's a small restaurant with not a large number of seats, but the service is quite good. The staff are very friendly. The jianbing is actually made in the dining area, so it's super fresh. I ordered a jianbing with crisps, and my wife ordered a beef tendon noodle soup. The staff said they were almost out of beef tendon, so they got a mix of beef tendon and beef brisket which I prefer. The jianbing had chili oil in it, and it was soft on the outside but the crisps were crispy on the inside. The chili oil had a nice mala kick, which I liked. The beef noodles were amazing. The noodle portions were so generous that we could not finish all the noodles in one sitting. The soup was amazing as was the beef. The portions were super generous. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
5/5 food Ambiance could use some work Great place to go if you're looking for some authentic and delicious food! Would definitely come back for the affordable cold jelly noodles, dumplings & pancake!

Yelp
small mom n' pop shop on the corner. food was great & made to order! ordered three types of jian bing, 3-delicacy dumplings, 3-delicacy noodles & soy milk. the dumplings & noodles were delicious too. dumplings are plump w/ thin skin & noodles had plenty of toppings. dumplings can either be boiled or pan fried. soy milk comes in a large bowl & unsweetened. there's a sugar dispenser that lets you customize the sweetness level in your own bowl. the jian bings ordered: 3 sausage, beef tendon, & normal beef. the beef ones were filled well! each order of jian bing is cut into 4 & are easy to split btwn 2-4 people. they also come with a wrapper to hold the pancakes to avoid greasy fingers. overall, the experience was good!

Yelp
This little mom-n-pop eatery features Tian Jin pancakes (more like crepes). Came here on a Saturday morning when they opened and some people were already waiting for their to-go orders. This is a small place but still offers dine-in. We ordered the beef tendon crepe, pig ear noodle soup, and cold noodle (liang pi). The crepe was interesting and the two eggs made it a thicker feel when you eat it. The beef tendon crepe but the sauce was a tad salty to my taste. The crispy dough was crunchy. I like it. The pig ear noodle was hot and soup base quite standard and tasted good. First time trying pig ear in noodle soup and it was not bad. The liang pi was a bit subpar because I'd tried liang pi at other places and the noodle here for this dish wasn't as good as other places. Pricing was not bad at all. If you are in the neighborhood and want to try some traditional Chinese Tian Jin crepes, give this place a try.

Yelp
I first saw Ai Wei Ju on an IG post shared by a friend showing the savory crepes they make on site like they do in China. Then I was driving with my mother to eat breakfast at another restaurant. We passed by Ai Wei Ju and she's like, oh this is new..let's eat here! So I swerved (not really!) and parked my car in the lot. It is in the same plaza as Kang Kang. The space is small. Inside allows seating for 18 people. There is also outdoor seating that is covered but that's only if you're okay with bugs flying around. The menu comes in both Chinese and English. If you get a Chinese one and can't understand it, like me, you can ask for an English one. There are no pictures. For food, we ordered soy milk, Chinese donut, savory crepe with beef, and steamed dumplings. The soy milk was only $2.50 as was the Chinese donut. The soy milk only comes hot, though it wasn't really that hot. They make it fresh on site. It comes in a bowl that was easily split between my mother and me. The Chinese donut was decent. The dumplings came with 15 in one order. WOW! They were really tasty ! We got the savory crepe with beef. There were A LOT of options for the filling so you can select to your heart's delight. The beef that we selected was very tender! The size of savory crepe was substantial and can be split between 2+. The staff did a great job attending to all customers and fulfilling requests. The waitress was very patient with my mother when she asked questions about the menu. Disposable plates and cups were used. Sauces were given in those plastic to-go containers. Water is self-serve and it is warm. Overall, this is a gem and we will be back to try more food! We are eyeing the savory crepe with pig ear. We would definitely order the soy milk and dumplings again, but the crunchy, pan fried ones next time! Credit cards accepted.

Yelp
o8.2o23 Came here multiple times within a month. No lines, no lines. I know it used to be a long wait and all when it first opened. That's also why I avoided coming here in the beginning no matter how badly I wanted to try the food. First time I did togo because my kid didn't want to have a breakfast date with me, so we took it to go and ate at home. I didn't know how big the portion was, so I ordered two soy milk, and that was enough to feed 6-8 people. That was fine, though. Save one for later. So, the other times, we would just order one soy and share amount the parties. I have also tried pancakes with beef, cold noodles 凉皮, pan-fried dumplings, deep fried dough sticks 油条, and beef noodles. They're all pretty good to me, especially beef noodles. The beef was very consistent, and they use beef shank? 牛腱. It was very tender and flavorful. When I togo the beef noodles, they didn't separate the noodles and soup, so the noodles got very soft to our liking. It was still good, though! I can tell there were a lot of msg...I think that's one of the important ingredients for its deliciousness.

Yelp
This place is all over tiktok and lives up to the hype! Everything we ordered was delicious: -cold noodle (loved the spice and peanut sauce. Super chewy noodles!) -dumplings (we got the ones without chives, each piece has a chunk of shrimp in it and it was fried perfectly) -pancake (we got the pig ear which was tasty but I also want to try other fillings) We came at a good time so the wait was short but I have heard of long waits. Prices were fair and food is great. Parking is in the large lot in the pack,

Yelp
Always excited and down to try a new restaurant. Discovered Ai Wei Ju via Yelp and the crispy pancake got my attention. FOOD Three Delicacies Potstickers- The potsticker filling had chives, fungus, pork, shrimp, eggs). The potstickers could have been more fried to give it texture and crunch. The filling wasn't juicy, and I think it's because the potstickers aren't wrapped fully. The only pro is each potsticker had a good amount of filling. Beef Pancake- There was a good amount of beef but no flavor and dried. There was a little bit of sauce between the pancakes but not in the pancake. The pancake is made on a Fried Sauce Noodles- This was Zha Jiang Mian. The noodles were served in a big bowl with corn, cucumber, and carrots toppings, and sauce. However, the zha jian sauce and toppings proportion were off compared to how much noodle was given in a big bowl. The zha jian sauce was also lackluster and not flavorful enough. I had leftovers of the noodles and had to ask for extra sauce. PRICE The price is fair for how much food they give. PARKING There is a shared parking lot with plenty of parking. SERVICE The service was quick and was greeted by a staff right away. Overall, I was super disappointed with my meal. The pancake has good potential but didn't live up to what I expected at all. It seemed like the dishes lacked flavors--even salt (which is odd for a Chinese restaurant) and very hastily prepared and cooked.

Kristie H.

Yelp
One jian bing could have fed two people. They give you a glove so you don't get your hands dirty. I also bought frozen dumplings to try and soybean milk. Have to report back on the frozen dumplings, but the pan fried dumplings I had there were not bad but not crispy enough. The must get is definitely the jian bing. It's nice to watch it made fresh in front of you. Service was really good. Go support!

Lily W.

Yelp
Food tasted authentic and delicious! Staff was quick and kind. We got the crepes: - beef tripe - sausage - original Along with the jelly noodles, soy milk, and chinese doughnuts. Everything came out quickly and made to order. The crepes come cut into fours so it's perfect for sharing! Parking is behind the restaurant in a shared lot. Limited dining space so not ideal for large parties.

Bella S.

Yelp
Small mom & pop Chinese restaurant on the corner of a plaza. There's some street parking in the front and plenty of parking in the parking lot in the back. My family and I came here on a Sunday during lunchtime and were the only ones. We were quickly seated. They have a small menu, which can be good to limit decision fatigue. Service was lackluster though. After taking our order, the waiter essentially only came to our table to drop off the food. Other than that, we had to get up to go get our own utensils. Meanwhile, the waiter/server was just sitting there behind the counter watching TV on his phone. Really?!? 1. Shoot Cucumber (2/5) 2 stars for the fresh, crunchy cucumber. Minus 3 stars for the sauce. This dish (if made right) should have a good blend of soy sauce, vinegar, garlic and maybe a hint of spice. Their cucumber dish literally tasted like cucumber soaked in a bed of salty soy sauce. There's hardly any vinegar or garlic to balance it out. 2. Jelly Noodle (4/5) You can choose between the clear noodles or the flat white rice noodles. We ended getting both due to individual preferences. The clear noodle on e lacked taste because the sauce did not stick to the clear noodles well. The white rice noodles were better. Overall, this was probably my favorite dish of everything we ordered. You can taste a more balance flavor of soy sauce, vinegar and peanut sauce. What's weird is 3. Jian Bing (Thin Crispy Chinese Crepes) (3.5/5) This was the primary reason we came here. I love that this place serves a dish that's not common at most other Chinese restaurants. Unfortunately, the taste was subpar. For some reason, it had a "powdery" consistency, which destroyed the pleasure of eating this. 4. Beef Jian Bing (Thin Crispy Chinese Crepes with Beef) (3/5) The dough was again powdery. The beef added additional flavor, which would've been good, but the beef was too salty and crumbly. 5. Soy Milk (2/5) Their soy milk is not filtered well. There's bits and powdery pieces of soy left. 1 plus is that they serve it unsweetened, so you can add as much or as little sugar to your palate's desire. 6. Pork & Chive Potstickers (1.5/5) Just ok. Nothing special about this potsticker. The skin was not fried enough as it was soggy in texture. The pork seemed to be old or of poor quality. Overall, it lacked flavor completely. I had to douse it with the sauce from the cucumber dish to be able to eat it. 7. Pork and Fennel Dumplings (1.5/5) The dumpling dough was very poor quality. It's like they used filler dough instead of real dumpling skin. The dough was hard and crumbly. I give them 1.5 stars for the generous filling. The fennel tasted different for each member of my family - like "tea" to 1 person, an "old house smell" to another, and "nothing" to another member. Unfortunately, we will not be coming back here.

Holly H.

Yelp
Food: - jianbing: authentic and very big, wished there was more sauce, liked how there is a variety of meat toppings - black bean noodles (fried sauce noodles): super authentic, really big portion enough to be shared by 2 people, three types of topping Service: - felt like the restaurant is understaffed - when we went they were behind on jianbing - gloves were provided for eating jian bing which I really appreciated Ambiance: - clean restaurant - friendly staff - felt super homey :) as the owner was sharing how they used to make this back in Tianjing China Suggestions: - some kind of system that would streamline orders being prepared to prevent wrong orders - self service water was out when we were there - having utensils out would be helpful for wait staff

Rachel B.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to trying this place out, but sadly nothing but the potstickers were good. We had two of the jian bing, both of which were relatively flavorless-missing a strong sauce or scallions to add flavor. The youtiao was claimed to be fresh, but then the owner said it was fried at noon (it was 7 PM), and when it came it was oily, soggy, and with a strong yeast flavor. The liang pi was only okay. The potstickers were pan fried to perfection and probably the best item, but sadly not enough to come back. Although I'd like to support a small family business (there was only three people in the restaurant other than my family--the owner and two people who seemed to be his parents) I'd save my money and go elsewhere.

Sykie G.

Yelp
I went here couple times already with my husband and son. We all enjoyed their Chinese crepes as well as their other food. We went there for their crepes, and not surprisingly, their freshly made crepes taste really good as I think. The Chinese crepe is made out of wheat and grain-based crepe, an egg, deep-fried crackers, 2-3 savory sauces, chopped scallions & an option of meat ( beef, Chinese sausage, or ham), then folded into an envelope shape for serving. It is also one of the most popular breakfasts sold at street stalls in China. Surprisingly, not only the Chinese crepes taste good, the dumplings, noodles, and cold dishes like cucumbers and beef tendon are also out of our expectations and served with a big portion. If you like soy milk, I would recommend their soy milk as well. You can tell the owner is generous. A big bowl of soy milk can be served for 2 people and I believe it is freshly made from soaking and grinding soybeans with their stone mill. And it only costs $2 something!

Yelp
COME EAT HERE ITS REALLY GOOD! Made by husband and wife and it's delicious!! Get the pancake!

Angelina O.

Yelp
EXTERIOR/PARKING: Few tables outdoors with roof like a little patio when you walk by the entrance on the left! It's in the same plaza as Kang Kang (Shao May) Food Court & used-to be yogurtland on Valley Blvd & Garfield, across from The Hat. The (specific) location is where Phoenix used to be, ste #31. Plenty of parking as it's also spacious INTERIOR: Pretty small, about 5 tables indoors. I'd expect it to be stuffy plus the heat from the stones, but they have AC so it's really nice & cool while eating ATMOSPHERE: Casual, not too loud, elevator music in the background SERVICE: The guy who took our order was very patient & answered all of my questions even though there was a bit of a language barrier. His friendly service is what makes me want to come back! The lady welcome me to record her making the stone ground pancakes, which is very nice (: FOOD: Cold Noodle - 4/5 stars Light peanut taste with a hint of spice if you add all 3 complimentary sauces they provide you. If you try it with no sauce it's literally just rice noodle. There's little cubes of tofu which is more of a spongey texture, pretty cool! Stone ground pancakes - 3/5 stars It kinda reminds me of a Crunchwrap supreme because of the crunchy thing in the middle, but flavor is pretty much like Taiwanese Beef Rolls/Green Onion Pancake Beef Rolls. It is kind of dry since there's not much egg per bite, but I love the concept! There's not much meat, however, as comfort food, it's the perfect amount as it doesn't overpower everything else that's inside the pancakes. There's 2 round stones where the lady can make 2 pancake/crepes at a time, it takes about 5 ish mins for 1. If there's multiple orders, I believe it shouldn't take any longer than 10-15 minutes. I honestly don't understand how people can follow TikTok trends & expect places to plate you within a 1-minute boujie dining experience lol, they literally just opened with only few employees that's trying their best so just be patient. Others have mentioned that an order of the stone-ground pancakes can fill 2 people up. However, we ordered a dish of cold noodle & the stone ground pancakes, it got us to an alright hunger level where we're still able to eat more. OVERALL: Definitely recommend it for first timers (+for the experience). I'd come back again when I'd like some light comfort food. Giving this place 4/5 as I was hoping to be more full

Steve C.

Yelp
Not great. They do Jian bing and it is impressive watching them being made. I think overall the food was just ok. Service was mid (everyone was slow to act, it took minutes to be seated, then minutes more to be checked on, they forgot about us semi-regularly, etc etc). I was brought in by a hype video on my social media feed about the jian bing and must say, it was wildly underwhelming.

Vanessa L.

Yelp
Food was pretty good...ish I don't like tendon but my dad ordered it and it came in abundance. I thought the pancake and beef with a fried crisp was decent. The beef noodle soup with beef was unproportionate - a lot of noodles, two pieces of baby bok choy, and some tendon/ beef flank. My dad got soybean drink and we had to ask for the fried stick. Feels like they should maybe offer to upsell. Service was not great. We had to ask for everything and they were so slow: napkins, extra bowls when we were obviously sharing as a family, and hot sauce which they only gave a bit. They used the same crusty glove for the pancake that had been sitting out for who knows how long. I question whether that is sanitary.

Ron K.

Yelp
In Short, Simple but an explosion of flavors. With a few more details, We didn't know what to expect. Sometimes we go to places that take us out of the comfort zone and love to try new things. It was my first Chinese pancake, I'm sure it has a better name, and I was in love. The egg, the meat that just melts in your mouth is just scrumptious. Definitely braised slow cooked meat in the wrap. I could eat 6 of those but we had other places to try. I HIGHLY recommend you go here and get some in your belly. Dumplings were good but not the highlight.

Mark L.

Yelp
There are two types of stone-ground pancakes at a new restaurant in Alhambra called "Ai Wei Ju": Thin and Crispy and Fried Stick. I brought my family there today, but it's a tiny restaurant with nowhere to sit or eat because there are so many people there waiting for the pancakes. We waited for at least 45 minutes only for the 2 pancakes because the shop is disorganized. The pancakes had an average flavor; perhaps I'll wait until everything is in order before attempting to return.

San San L.

Yelp
Food was good. We ordered Jian bing with beef, three delicacies fried dumplings, and liang pi. Jian bing with beef: one of the best I've had so far in this area. I ordered it with beef, but i think without the meat wouldve been better. Three delicacies dumplings: filling of the dumplings was delicious. The shrimp and mushrooms give them a nice texture. As for the skin, it's on the thinner side and I personally prefer thicker and chewier dumpling skin. Liangpi: not the best I've had in the area, but it was good. Will still order it again next time. Water is self-serve, but it's room temperature water. What is it with northern Chinese restaurants and room temperature water? It tastes awful. Lol They only had 1 guy taking orders and serving. He did great. The food took a while to come out, but no biggie.

Yelp
Best on the go and probably not the best place for groups. Best for party of 2? Seats are very limited and gets quite packed during peak hours. Service was quick, friendly, and water is self served. The wait time for the items took a very long time. Go the Pancake (thin crispy+ sausage) and it was surprisingly good. Sausage wasn't that great. I would recommend beef option instead. Serving size is enough for 2 people. The Pork and Napa Dumplings were my favorite and it was amazing when out fresh. Drown it in chili oil and it's the best thing ever. The potstickers were definitely worth trying as well. Portions were fair and enough for a quick fix. I don't recommend ordering to go, cuz it won't taste that great after.

Yelp
Parking in the lot in the back. Entrance is through the side Accepts credit card. This is the place for Beijing Streetfood and Comfort Food. Nothing flashy. The Beef Jian Bing ($11)- it's made just like on the streets of Beijing and takes me back. It's average, it's missing the picked vegetables and XO sauce. Still I rather get it here than spend $15 getting it at the 626 night market.. You can see the Jian Bing cooked in the corner. 3 flavor Pan fried dumpling (San Xian Guo Te) $13- pretty good flavor and filling. Not as crispy as I'd like. Everyone who was eating pretty much speaks Mandarin.

Yelp
Stopped in to order a Jiang Bing. We learned about this place months ago from a video on Instagram. This is our second time here and we really enjoy the fresh made to order food!

Yelp
Be prepared for a long wait. I went on a Saturday around 1pm and there were about 10 people in line. It took at least an hour just to order. There is only one woman making the jian bings and one man who is taking orders, giving people their orders, and prepping ingredients for the woman. By the time we were able to order, we were told that they had run out of the beef pancakes. This was literally only a couple hours after they opened for the day. I imagine they're still in a soft opening stage and working out the kinks and they probably didn't realize that it would be so popular. I would hope that they would be able to fix the problems with time. As to the food, I ended up getting the bacon pancake since I couldn't get the beef. Unfortunately, the bacon wasn't crispy and so it was chewy. There also wasn't enough sauce in it so it lacked flavor. I'm curious if the beef one would've been better but not sure I'd go back to try again.

Yelp
Came during breakfast and was not disappointed. The waiter was quick to assist and recommend the specials. One order of soy milk is enough for two. The ambiance It was a quiet and relaxing compared to other breakfast spots. I ordered the Jiang Bian with beef, beef noodle soup and soy milk. Definitely worth checking out if you want quick breakfast.

Yelp
Decided to have lunch here after driving by several times. The restaurant is small maybe 5 or 6 tables inside but they have an outdoor patio with another 5 or 6 tables. The restaurant is clean and you can watch the crepe making process which is nice. The noodles and the savory crepes were all good, but I enjoyed their potstickers the most. The service was a bit lacking bit that is usually part for the course at these small family restaurants. The family that runs this place is very nice and accommodating.

Yelp
Food was delicious, reminds me of what I've eaten in China. My partner is vegetarian so we got the classic jianbing, liangpi, soy milk, and vegetarian potstickers. Food came out quickly and was freshly made, and it was plenty of food for two. Would recommend!

Yelp
Came here for lunch with a group. The Pancakes is def a snack, so I would order noodles or something too. (Don't just order pancakes like us, cause it was very dry overall) They have 2 small tables inside and maybe 1 table outside in the back. It's a pretty small place. Our group of 5 ordered 6 pancakes and 1 a cucumber cold dish. All the dumplings were sold out. According to my friends, these pancakes are definitely bigger than another known place that does something similar. The food itself, the appetizer was massive, like a wasabi flavor, tasty and crunchy. For the pancakes, we ordered 2 regular, which was very plain, dry and not enough flavor. Hard pass. I would recommend either more sauce or something. For the meats, we ordered the intestines, tripe, beef and tendon. Basically the plain pancake plus meat. The meats had very good flavor to it. I only ate the intestines and the beef one tho. The intestines was flavorful and soft, and the beef was tasty. I was full by 2 pieces... (They cut the pancake into 4 for us). According to my friends, the best out of all was the beef. Service, guy has nice and smartly brought us plates and chopsticks to share.

Yelp
They're still in a soft opening phase meaning it feels like things are still getting worked out. The jian bing I got was ok. I think they were training someone new with my order so I think I got the training version maybe. But again, I'll give them a bit of time to work things out and come back again. The prices are very reasonable. The owner was super friendly. The place is small. Only a few tables but you should be able to find plenty of parking around the back and on the street.

Yelp
After reading reviews about lines/wait, decided to drop by around opening time to beat any potential weekend crowds and try out their jian bing. There was already a couple folks waiting for their to-go orders, and a couple dine-in parties, but I was able to walk right up to the register and ask for an English menu and order straight away. Taking a look around me as I waited for my order, the space is your typical, no frills, small 626 business--quaint and cozy, majority of signs and menus written in Chinese, with the aroma of the freshly made jian bing and dumplings filling the air. There's also some outdoor seating on their side patio--cutely decorated with (fake) greenery. About 10 minutes later, my 2 beef jian bings were hot and ready. The egg was well cooked, the meat was tender, and the crispiness made for a perfectly satisfying first bite. The sauces weren't too salty or overpowering--the taste overall was perfectly balanced between sweet/savory. Like many others here, I'm rooting for this place too. Support the 626 small businesses and consider adding Ai Wei Ju to your rotation of amazing 626 eats.

Yelp
My mom found this place and remembered that Kristie did a review on it on her Instagram so my family decided to go. We ordered the beef crepe pancake, boiled vegetable dumplings, the pan-fried meat delicacy dumplings, shoot cucumbers, braised beef noodles, fried stick (which was just chinese donut), and soy milk. The cucumber was pretty big - we thought it was going to be an appetizer but it was big enough that 4-5 people could've nibbled at it. It was pretty delicious and the cucumbers were marinated perfectly with sesame oil, vinegar, soy sauce, and a sesame paste. We enjoyed it! The boiled vegetable dumplings were pretty good as well. My dad has a heart problem so he can't eat too much oily food or meats, and I was surprised at how good it was! It had chopped-up glass noodles in it as well as wood ear mushrooms. The crepes, what they're known for, was just... ok. The beef was really dry and chewy, it was kind of falling apart, and the flavor was so... bland. I was really disappointed. The pan-fried Meat Delicacy dumplings had wayyyy too many mushrooms in it. I couldn't even taste the pork at all, it was just straight mushroom. The meat inside the dumpling isn't good at all. I was so incredibly disappointed by this dumpling - it looked so good in videos and on Instagram. The braised beef noodles - again, way too much mushroom. The broth was just ok and there wasn't nearly enough broth to cover the noodles. I probably won't be back, I was really disappointed with the food here.

Yelp
It was just not good. I ordered the sausages jian bing (supposed to be the most popular dish). It was bland, cold and the crispy inside has a funny taste to it - old oil taste). The lady (cook ) walks out of the kitchen and went to the station and put on the gloves and I see there was stuff stuck on the gloves. It was from the previous usage but she had put it aside. Gross!! If I'm playing $11 for a dish please use New gloves especially when the customer can see it.

Yelp
Really darn good authentic food right outside of Beijing proper! It feels like you have been transported there when you step in the place! The dishes are served hot with the crepes so crispy and flavorful and the soup is on point with the exact amount of noodles! Be sure to come with a big group as it's worth while to try everything they have to offer! See you here!

Yelp
They're known for their jianbing but this is actually a review for their frozen dumplings - they're the best I've had in the area, the shrimp inside tastes very fresh and there's a very generous portion of it. Posting this in hopes that this quality sustains, will be my goto moving forward for sure!

Yelp
Oof. I first saw this place from IG and was intrigued by the Chinese street food. I wanted to give it a try in every aspect, so we ordered the pancake, noodles, and potstickers. The pig ear pancake actually had a pungent stench to it as if it had gone bad. If you've ever gone to buy poultry from an Asian supermarket, you know that the meat is cheaper, but you would have to cook it quicker. This smelled like what would happen if you left it in the fridge for a week. We could not eat it after the first bite because of how bad it smelled. Also got the fried donut pancake, the fried donut was bread like and stale. It was not freshly fried nor did it taste fluffy. It was dense af and bready. For both the pancakes it was flavorless. Potstickers were aiight. I could at least eat it, but the wrapper was too thick, the filling had too much pork. I think they just minced a lot of the meats and combined them, but they didn't spend a lot of time chopping the ingredients and mixing it. Got the jajangmyeon for the noodles and it was too salty. 3 ingredients with corn, carrot and zucchini. Also got the jelly noodles. Looked pretty good from when other people ordered it, but it's just not that good. Pulled out of the fridge, put some soy sauce, chili, sesame on it. If you can imagine rice noodles, then improperly cooked so you can taste the starch within every noodle. That's the texture. Sorry this DOES NOT live up to the hype or even a mediocre restaurant.

Yelp
First time trying this place. It is different because there are no place that makes the pancake like them; however, it did not wow me with the taste. Will need to try other options next time. It's worth the try.

Yelp
Wow the food here is delicious! Made to order so it does take a little time but definitely worth the wait. We ordered the jiang bing with beef, jelly noodle and dumplings. Everything was delicious and will definitely be back soon to try the rest of their menu! It's a small restaurant but they have both indoor and outdoor seating. Street parking out front or in the lot behind. @christine.is.hungry on Instagram

Yelp
Very delicious. Nice customer service. Very friendly to the clients. AC is quite cool too. Bought 30 eggs for only 5.5 dollars. Very good deal

Yelp
Can't recommend this place at all. The soy milk should be either hot or cold Not lukewarm. The food is also bad. They had no experience running a small eatery.

Yelp
I'm a bit sad as I was so excited to try this place. I'm a very big fan of Jian Bing and here, I just felt like I was eating a dry sponge. There is a wonderful place where I'm from in the Bay Area that makes the best I've had, and I've chased that flavor since I moved to so cal. Their crepe has the donut, plum sauce, chili sauce, cilantro, onion, and lots of pickles. Jian Bing I received was only the crepe (no flavor) and the donut (also no flavor). Zero sauce, herbs, anything. I cannot speak to what is or isn't authentic, but I know Chinese cuisine is one of the best in the world and has a rich reference for spices and seasoning. So even if the crepe and donut are mild, they still have flavor. I think the Jian Bing is their main selling point but this isn't the stand out dish. I had the beef noodle soup which was good and the three delicacy dumpling. Both were wonderful, and would try pan friend dumpling next time too. But the service seemed overwhelmed but friendly (I don't hold this against them as most places are understaffed) but it became a lacking experience with no water served, having to ask a few times or get up to find chopstick napkins etc. The outdoor side tables were really nice but infested with a lot of flies so it didn't really create extra seating without more issue. I would suggest to management that they consider the recipe for Jian Bing because they clearly employed cooks as seen by other foods I tried there. And to make some things self service (napkin utensil etc) to alleviate employee strain. Maybe even water could be self service or they could get a tablet for entering orders. I would return to maybe try again in a few months time, after they've settled in. I'm rooting for them but still very disappointed. I hope they can consider some options to improve and keep growing! Overall three stars for kind cashier, good beverage selection, and delicious dumpling and soup.

Yelp
A home-style spot serving authentic Northeastern Chinese food. We got the liangpi (jelly noodle) and it was pretty good! The soy milk came piping hot. I heard the server ask other tables if they wanted it warm or cold so they can do both. It seems that the soy milk was made in house as there were soy residues at the bottom of the bowl. Sugar is available on the table if you'd like to sweeten it. The beef pancake we got was pretty good also! They provided those wrappers (see picture) so you could easily hold it in your hand as it is considered street food in China. All portions were really big. We ordered thinking we might need to order more later but ended up with leftovers and we were stuffed! The server was efficient. Overall great service. Seating is also available outside in the patio (shaded area) but may not be entirely ready when we went. This place is solid, feels homey. Maybe they've made improvements since the mid reviews but we definitely recommend people checking out this place!
