I've flown through ATL airport so many times during my travels. It's one of the biggest airports in the world. I had a layover there before finally heading home to Florida. Normally in this, Terminal A....Chik - Fil - A is my go to place. But ultimately I was truly craving pizza. Unfortunately in Terminal A at the food court, there's never pizza offered.
Well...not exactly...right next door to the food court is this place...Varasano's. I've passed by it countless times because it's also situated by Chik - Fil - A....and I've had my eye on it for a while. Since I arrived at ATL during dinner time, I figured....I'd try this place.
I initially approached to what I thought would be a simple carryout/hostess stand where I could just order a pizza, wait for it and take it to go.
Though....the hostess/bartender said they were only for dine-in. I was okay with this....I really wanted pizza, plus I had over an hour wait for my connecting flight.
Also.....this area of Terminal A is my favorite. It's located right near windows that look out onto the tarmac....and I love to peer outside and gaze away as planes pass by and park at their gates.
Honestly....lol, I could stare at the tarmac all day long. But....back to Varasano's......
I was seated next to the windows....great! Overall, the area is sort of small and this for being dinner time, the section was crowded. There is a piano smack in the middle of the dining area....usually I'm here during breakfast hours and there's no one playing the piano. Since it was early evening, a gentleman was playing some melodies, which was pleasant.
The menu was rather simple. They offered a few appetizers.....but mainly pizza. Not messing around....I ordered a cheese pizza....well, it was sort of a margarita pizza pie....basically cheese, sauce, oregano and some spices. Interestingly....there was only 1 size for all their pizza selections. No problem. I also got a soda with it, though, there is alcohol and cocktails offered. For my pizza....and for all the pies (maybe like 10 different recipes) the prices were reasonable ranging anywhere from $12 - $18. That was fine by me...especially for elevated prices at airports.
My pizza came out shortly after ordering. The pie was composed of 4 large slices. Overall, I'd have to say the pizza was maybe 8" - 10"...that's it.
And...it was a thin crust pie...very thin! So...yeah I was hungry....I devoured the pizza in a few minutes and that's it!
Well...yeah I was still hungry! This was quite disappointing. I was hoping for much, much bigger of a pie! I would have paid for it had I know the pie was so small.
Instead....whatever, I had to accept what they gave me. With my drink, tax and tip....I spent like $23ish dollars. I must say I was frustrated that the pizza wasn't large enough. I could have eaten 2 pies. Maybe I should have gone back to my comfort place - Chik - Fil - A, for a quick sandwich before boarding my flight.
Finally, although I was hungry....the taste of the pizza was just okay. The pie was real greasy! Normally I don't mind much oil....but if you look at my picture...the grease spilled onto my plate.
In the end, grrrr...I wouldn't return to Varasano's. I guess just having to accept dine-in service along with the size of my pizza being way too small would steer me in a different direction next time I visit ATL airport.
