Aji Peruvian Cuisine - Review - Long Beach - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"On a quieter part of 4th St. is Aji, where they’re serving very good Peruvian food. The menu ranges from ceviches to causas (chilled mashed potato topped with seafood) to giant entrees that could feed a small family. It’s worth trying a bunch of different stuff from each section of the menu, but our favorites are the just-spicy-enough Ceviche Mercado and the creamy Aji de Gallina. The space is pretty simple, but the staff is super-friendly, and it’s a great spot for a casual weeknight dinner." - Jess Basser Sanders

The Best Peruvian Restaurants In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Aji Peruvian Cuisine is a casual spot right off Junipero Beach, making it great for dinners with friends, family, or that one chronically stressed roommate who really needs to get out of the house. We love their ceviche nikkei, a Japanese take on Peru’s signature dish. Fresh ahi tuna sashimi is served in a pool of soy sauce, lime juice, ají, ginger, and daikon to create one very good crudo that’s perfect after a long day. If you want something warm instead, order the tacu tacu. This classic bean and rice mixture gets pan-fried until it forms a crust, and is then topped with a bright yellow ají aioli and pickled onion salsa for extra oomph. But no meal here is complete without the causa limeña: three balls of yellow mashed potatoes seasoned with yellow ají and topped with creamy Dungeness crab, fresh avocado, and jalapeño aioli for some additional heat. It’s refreshing, a little spicy, and a reminder that mashed potatoes really are a perfect food. " - Sylvio Martins, Brant Cox

Great place for group meet ups or just a solo meal. We went for happy hour which was great for trying various things. Although I prefer the dinner portions for the ceviche. The staff has always been very nice and patient when deciding what to order. I would skip the slider. It was good but there are other things on the menu to try.

This restaurant has a lovely atmosphere with wood decor. It has high ceilings and large windows that make the restaurant feel airy and open. The food here is wonderful and full of flavor. The chips they brought us were some of the best I’ve ever had, and after trying Peruvian ceviche for the first time, it instantly became my favorite. The service here was relatively quick as well, with both my date and my entrees coming out around the same time.

Google
Usually this restaurant is quite pricy, but it got a great happy hour. I tried their chicken with Aji Sauce it was so flavorful and amazing. The Ceviche was well prepared and fresh. They got also happy hour drinks. I had a white wine with the food which was a perfect combination.

I'm from Peru and I was craving Peruvian food while in California. I found this place based on the reviews and decided to give it a try. I ordered the seco con fréjoles, and it was honestly amazing just like in Perú, 10/10. The lomo saltado, though, didn’t really taste like a traditional lomo saltado. It lacked that classic flavor, so I'd give it a 4/10. For dessert, I had the picarones, but they were way too sweet and covered in powdered sugar… they didn’t taste like real picarones at all. Definitely something that needs improvement. I know it's not easy to make everything exactly like back home, but some dishes shouldn't lose their original flavor. A bit more attention to that traditional taste would really make a difference. That said, the service was great and the atmosphere was really nice. I appreciated the overall vibe!

Walked in when it was half empty (not a big restaurant), took 10 minutes for us to get seated. Finally got seated, tried to get their attention with eye contact, but completely avoided us. Brought water to the table behind us that got seated AFTER us. Absolutely terrible service. First timers and didn’t wanna stay just from how bad the service was and the hospitality from the beginning.

Google
The good was so good. Comes and seasoned perfectly. We got the short rib and a shrimp dish and they were great. The potato and shrimp appetizer was even better somehow

Google
The ceviche was excellent, fresh, and tasty! They have a diverse menu and good options, such as food and drinks. The plates were kind of small, and it was a little expensive. Service was good, the place was clean, and there was parking in the back part of the restaurant.

Excellent and tasty food. Good prices and good large portions. I will be coming back. The customer service is excellent. The place is a bit small though.

Yelp
We finally visited and it did not disappoint. Their plates were delicious, elegantly presented, and descent size. We fell in love with the Pescado a la macho plate! The sauce, spices and fish were out of this world! We definitely will be coming back for this specific dish. We also enjoyed their platinos! I was hoping that dish was mine only, but my bf decided he was also craving them haha! Their home made chips were definitely unique... we ate them less than a minute! You'll see once you visit. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Conchitas a la Parmesan's plate but i still enjoyed everything else. Also, the service was great. To top it off we loved that the place is open, so it's perfect for the summer, air comes in and out.

Yelp
Hadn't had Peruvian food in a minute, so I was more than happy welcoming it back into my life with Aji. I was able to find a parking spot a block away, but I imagine it can get pretty tough on the weekends when things are a bit busier. From the jump, the ambience is nice, with an open-air view, modern interior, and solid selection of music. Our server, Rosita, was hilarious, hospitable, and helpful, sharing stories, assisting us with menu options, and cracking jokes all night. We'd ordered about half the menu. From what I recall, we had the golden beet salad, causa trio, chupe de camarones, and papa rellena de camarones, and picarones to finish things off for dessert. Everything was plated beautifully and had a very grand portion size fit for multiple people. For starters, we were served their house made potato chips, gargantuan in size and garnished with an aioli-like dressing. Crispy and delicious, loved it. Rosita explained potato chips originated in Peru, so I'd also learned something new. The golden beet salad was fresh, sweet, and had lots of flavor with its blend of numerous ingredients. Very pleasant to eat, especially loved the goat cheese and honey balsamic vinegar. The papa rellena de camarones felt like an entree with its miniature football-sized stature. It meshed excellently with the chipotle aioli and salsa criolla drizzle. Inside was flavorful, with an abundance of ingredients that worked nicely together; shrimp, onions, potato mash, paprika, green onions. Loved the causa trio, which helped when we were indecisive on which causa we wanted to order. It consisted of one of each of the following: limena, de camarones, and spicy tuna. I really enjoyed them all, but was seeing a trend playing personal favorites with the aioli, so I'll choose my victor here and go with the causa limena. It's a chilled potato mash topped off with crab, jalapeno aioli, and avacado. So much flavor. The picarones were one of the more unique desserts I'd ordered. They're essentially powdered crispy doughnuts filled with yam and cinnamon, with a large syrup base to immerse your fried friend in. Very sweet and satisfying. Great food, ambience, service, and overall experience. I'll come again to check out more options in the future.

Yelp
Aji is a cute little restaurant in Retro Row, which means there's limited seating and limited parking. We were lucky and called ahead, so we did not have to wait long for our table. Their patio is dog friendly, so we were able to bring our pup! The server was really nice and brought our dog a bowl of water. We ordered a bunch of items to share, and the standouts were the empanadas and the fish. Everything was phenomenal. We will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
From the complimentary chips down to their drinks and desserts, Aji never disappoints!! Usually frequent it for their Lomo Saltado, always cooked well and very good but they also have amazing burgers (who knew an egg and plantains in a burger would make it so much better?), plantains, ceviches and even the smoothest flan in town! Service is always so friendly and efficient with a chill vibe all throughout. If you're looking for a nice, homie Peruvian restaurant with top-notch food, Aji is the way to go.

Yelp
Love this place so much!!! My fiancé and I went here on our first ever date and so it already holds a special place for us, but deservingly so. This place is delicious. I've tried multiple things on their menu and nothing ever misses. They also give you a complimentary chip appetizer which i couldn't get enough of and had to physically stop myself because I knew the rest of the delicious food was coming. Service is always great and the establishment is very clean. There is lots of seating and a small parking lot in the back. If that lot is full then you can find street parking. The Anticuchos, lomo saltado, jalea mixto, ceviche, Seco, and stir fried noodles are all so tasty. The flavors are never lacking, plus there are so many other things on the menu to try. I love this place and will always come back.

Yelp
My first review of 2024! Peruvian cuisine is my favorite and I'm so glad I have such a delicious Peruvian restaurant, walking distance from where I live. First I want to address a negative review I read before drafting my review. The yelper's negative review was based on price and I have to agree with them, it's expensive but I don't mind paying when it's worth it and this spot is worth it. When I moved to Long Beach, years ago, the first meal I had was here. The same woman who helped me that day years ago, actually remembered me! She and the other employees here are so nice and helpful. When I recently had date night here, I ordered the same dish I had all those years ago, Lomito Saltado. Sautéed beef tenderloin, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, soy sauce, hand cut fries and steamed rice. So many carbs, so freaking delicious. My boyfriend ordered the Ají De Gallina. Shredded chicken breast in creamy ají sauce, Parmesan cheese, served with potatoes and rice. The sauce is the star of the dish and I could literally slather it on almost anything. Due to trying to save money and trying to lose weight, I won't be going here often but will definitely go here a couple of times a year to treat myself. Support this amazing small business!

Yelp
Oh my goodness, I don't know where to start. I really like Peruvian food and I have been to several Peruvian restaurants in Los Angeles area, Glendale, and Hawthorne. To make it really short, I did not like the food here. At all. This restaurant is not authentic Peruvian, is more of an experiment or mixture of modern American and Peruvian food mixed together. The spices, the taste and texture of what I had I did not like at all. I tried the Steak lomo salteado and the Aji De Gallina. The (Peruvian) flavor was simply lacking. The steak was good, but it was without Peruvian ingredients. Even visually you can tell there are missing ingredients and the style of the cooking preparation. Then there was the Aji De Gallina. Man. I don't know what they add to this dish, but every time after dipping my fork and lifting it, there is this really weird looking stuff that looks like really thin hair hanging down, kind of like cheese, and it might be cheese I have no idea, but it does not look attractive or appetizing. And then there is the taste and ingredients issue. This dish simply does not taste like authentic Peruvian food and the sauce of the Aji De Gallina is way too thick. I mean, why fix what's not broken? Peruvian food is Peruvian food and that's what we want to eat when we think about it. Nothing more nothing less. I mean, I do like to try different things and even "weird" food, but the taste, texture and the way they prepare these dishes is just not very good. The classic and delicious spicy green sauce was also missing. They just simply don't make it. They do but is very different. Again, kind of "modernized" and something is very different about it, but not in a great way. And last, I also had the fried bananas. The bananas were okay, I've had better, but they were okay, the problem is that really weird semi sweet sauce they serve it with. I think they add mustard to it. I did (not) like that at all. The best and simplest thing they can and should do to this, is get rid of that weird tasting sauce and just serve it with condensed milk. Problem solved. So sorry guys but I don't think I will be going back to this restaurant any time soon because their prices are very high yet the food is not that good. Oh, and they also don't serve that lovely bread with butter that you normally get at all other Peruvian restaurants that's a big no no for me :-(

Yelp
Extremely small parking lot in the back and some street parking available. The restaurant is very clean and has an up scale feel to it. They have a very impressive variety of wines to serve. Friendly service with a smile. I've had peruvian at many restaurants, so I wasn't completely blown away, but the food was good. The dishes were flavorful and fresh. If you are in the area and craving peruvian, this would be a good option.

Yelp
Tried Aji Peruvian restaurant for the first time last night. First, there is a small parking lot in the back but the time limit says 90 minutes. I doubt the restaurant enforces this but street parking is not bad at all. We had trouble opening the front door (weak hands) so entered through the back! The restaurant's ambiance is upscale casual. The brick and high ceilings give it a warm setting. We ordered a bottle of wine; reasonably priced selection. The complimentary chips were crisp and a nice gesture. We ordered the Causa Trio and Ceviche Nikkei to start. The Causa Trio is not only beautiful but delicious. I was worried about the potato base being too heavy but it's anything but. Since there were two of us, we were delighted that we could easily cut them in half. The Ceviche Nikkei has a bit of kick to it; not anything overwhelming and the ahi tuna is chilled and refreshing. I put some of it on those delicious chips. We kept with the seafood theme and ordered the fish entree (Pescado A lo Macho) which came with rice. The sauce was so good and the fish light. It was large enough to share, given that we had two starters. Although disappointed that they have no decaf-coffee available (this is my pet peeve as too many restaurants do not offer decaf post Covid - I'm sorry but just regular coffee at night is a no-starter for me), we decided to check out a dessert and ordered the sweet potato-based doughnuts, Picarones. They came with a syrup on the bottom of the dish. Crisp and although not 'super light' were an excellent dessert to share. I'll be back!

Yelp
Obsessed with this place! My sister and I brought our parents here last time they were in town. We were able to try a whole lot of things. Chips with Huancaina Sauce- my mom was obsessed with these. She called these chips "the best potatoes she has ever had." We learned that Peru is apparently known for their potatoes? Anyways the chips are hand made in house. The huancaina is the perfect mix of creamy with a kick Ceviche Mercado- perfectly refreshing Ceviche Clasico- we were caught off guard and ended liking this more than the Mercado. The halibut was such a good texture Causa Trio- we got this to share and each little potato ball was a little bit too small to successfully do that. It was a fun little appetizer though and I would recommend getting it for yourself! Lomito Saltado- This is my absolute favorite peruvian dish and this was solid. Seco de Res- My dad loves short ribs and beans and he really liked this. I don't like either so I didn't. One of each of each empanada- we were really full at this point. Like the causa it was a bit hard to judge since we only got a bite each. I liked the little bit I had though. Service was great. Our server was from Brazil but also Taiwanese so we had a lot of fun chatting with her. I will absolutely be back.

Yelp
We love Peruvian food so we tried this place out. Service was great. There was only one lady working and she may have been the owner. She explained some of the dishes to us and was very helpful. Food: 5/5: Chicken Empanada. Loved the texture of the pastry. 5/5: Steak a lo pobre (hangar steak) w/chimichurri. Steak was grilled and delicious. Just a tiny bit fatty. 4/5: Lomito saltado (beef tenderloin). Meat was sautéed. We liked the hangar steak better, although this dish was good too. 3/5: Grilled Caesar Salad. Was good, croutons were super crispy and light. 5/5: Fries & plantains were delicious (not sure why they call them fried bananas). 5/5: Picarones (dessert) Peruvian squash-yam doughnuts. So crispy and light! Our waitress explained how they are made and they are so good. 4/5: Facility. I think there is a small free limited parking lot in the back. When we go back we will get the hangar steak again b/c it was delicious!

Yelp
The decor and vibe were awesome and we had great customer service. The seafood was delicious and fresh. Our only complaint was that the food didn't seem to be salted, which made the flavors of the meal lost.

Yelp
What a great find! Tucked behind the now empty but former Portfolio coffee house, one could walk right by this place and not notice it. In fact, I've done just that for years until recently a neighbor recommended this spot. We stopped in on a Friday night and were seated immediately. They have gluten and dairy free options but not a lot. I settled on steak cooked medium. It was delicious although I may ask for it medium well next time. The potatoes were tender and full of flavor as were the platanos. I really loved the beet salad and asked for the goat cheese on the side. It was fresh, crisp and well dressed - everything you want in a salad. The service was great and once the restaurant filled up for dinner it made a nice cozy ambiance. We will definitely return and would recommend it to others.

Yelp
We were driving through the area and checked out Aji Peruvian Cuisine. We are total fans! I think they have the best Lomo Saltado I have ever had. They use really good meat (beef tenderloin). It is tender, thick and flavorful. The Tallarin Verdes with Beef Tenderloin was also a favorite. The panko crust had the perfect crunch, in combination with the a think cut of beef tenderloin, was all super good. I love the wrapping on the Beef Empanadas. It had a slight chewy and flaky texture. Their plantains were cooked perfectly! Of course, we had to get the red onion lime salad to eat with with each item to provide a bit of acidity to our dishes. The only thing I wish they had was the traditional Peruvian green sauce to add extra heat and flavor to each of our dishes. If they have the same green sauce from other Peruvian restaurants, they would totally get 5 stars from me. Thank you Aji Peruvian Cuisine for the delicious foods and great hospitality!

Yelp
We were craving some lomos saltados and this was the spot in Long Beach. Here was my experience as I ordered for pick up. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street or neighborhood parking... be sure to prepare for that by coming early or rideshare. Seating: Spacious space with a good amount of seating. Great for pairs or groups for about 50 people. Vibes: Welcome to 4th Street of Long Beach. It's an eventful place with many eateries, local shops, and if you're lucky, live music! The spot itself is pretty nice - classy, clean, nothing too flashy maybe just a wide display of wine. It feels pretty fancy so it you wanna get dressed up this is the place. FOOD: Lomos Saltados (Recommend) The beef was flavorful and delicious. The fries were good and rice helped provide more substance. The onions, tomato, and cilantro provided a nice kick to the sauce. Sweet Fried Plantains (Recommend) Delicious sweet and soft plantains. The caramel sauce helped elevate the flavors. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Friendly people and accurate with the timing. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Awesome! This represents Peruvian food well! If you're looking for Peruvian food in Long Beach, this is a great spot. Food is delicious with reasonable prices and a pleasant experience. Yes there parking might be thought but if you're looking for something eventful this is a good spot. TIPS: * Follow their website for updates on their menu!

Yelp
PLEASE EAT HERE! This food 100/10 I have never had Peruvian food before, and this was hands-down the best Peruvian food experience! * Cow heart 9/10: trust me, if you're going to come to this spot, please try the Anticucho de Carne (Cow heart)!! It's similar texture to carne asada but tougher & was seasoned beautifully -- if you're a foodie, it's a must try * Ceviche clásico 8.5/10: another am amazing dish! The sweet yam complimented the zesty-ness of the ceviche with the chili peppers, could have used more lemon-- but overall was amazing *Tallarines Verdes 9/10: if you enjoy pesto pasta, this Peruvian version of that is even better!! *Picarones 8.5/10: this dessert was very savory. I'm not a big fan of desserts, but had to try it since I was trying new food! It was a bit oily for me, but it had a great crunchy & wasn't very thick full of dough, the yam & light cinnamon complimented the overall "churro" texture This is a place I will definitely be coming back to & telling all my friends about it. The restaurant's decor was picture worthy The service was amazing, the servers were knowledgeable about all their dishes and mostly were Peruvian and spoke Spanish Overall 100/10 spot & highly recommend if you are searching for a new food spot in Long Beach

Yelp
Let me start with the service. This place is very hospitable, they are on top of everything and so nice. I think it was the owner who served us. She took the time to give us some culture background on the food. Place is super clean. Now the best part of this review is the food. Wow!!!! So much flavor, I got the lomo saltado and it was perfectly seasoned, beef was so tender and the fries freshly made. We also had their ice cream, it was made from a fruit lucuma from Peru. That was super fantastic!!!! I will be back there are a few more items on the menu that I am looking very much forward to try.

Yelp
Outstanding food and friendly service. Unfortunately the interior was freezing on this night. I had to put on my jacket.

Yelp
Great service with Rosita. She was super sweet, knowing, patient, and gave great recommendations for our 1st visit. We started with complimentary homemade chips and grilled Ceasar salad. The char on the salad was delicious and perfect. The saltado comes in pollo, lomo, and tofu. Although pollo is not on the menu, just ask for it, they have it. All the components are served in separate dishes. Fries, rice, and protein, which I LOVED because I dislike soggy fries. The fried banana was delicious as well. I loved our entire meal from start to finish. We were never rushed to finish, and the staff all checked in on us throughout our visit. The ambiance was so amazing. It felt like we were at a family gathering.

Yelp
Free chips and sauces that come out. The chips is below average. Get the trio of sauces (free). I personally liked the red and green one. The yellow one I didn't care much for. They also don't have straws??? The service was OK. All of the servings were on the smaller side. We getting tacos after. - Beef heart 5/5 It was tender and meaty. The char taste was really yummy. Definitely worth trying. - Golden Beet Salad 5/5 The dressing is yummy. Golden beets taste like corn??? It was really good. - Classic ceviche 3.5/5 Very sour. It was OK. - Flank steak 1/5 The meat was VERY RUBBERY and chewy (not in a good way). It's also over $30. Not good. - Lomo Saltado 3.5/5 Big pieces of meat. Comes in a small bowl. Over $30, it wasn't worth it. - Carne & Corn Empanada 3.5/5 I thought they were OK. The skin was on the thicker side. The chimichurri was below average. - Green pasta noodle 2/5 The taste was OK. Very basic. - Yucca fries 5/5 Very crispy and soft on the inside. - Sweet potato fries 5/5 These were really yummy. They have a small parking in the back.

Yelp
This place is amazing. 1st off, they got a free parking lot for an hr. 2nd, the staff was amazing. Our waitress kept checking in on us making sure everything was good. The ambiance is really rustic and barn vibes. It gives old church vibes, small wedding vibes, and distillery vibes. The food was amazing. The Aji de gallina was creamy. The Ceviche mercado has little kick and love the seafood. I would recommend the dishes. Steak a lo pobre was little salty but the meat was very easy to chew. The fried banana was cinnamon. ANTICUCHO DE CORAZÓN was tender. I recommend coming to this place for wine night, girls night, date night, or family dinner. They have a whole wall of different wines you can try!

Yelp
Came to celebrate my birthday and it was a wonderful experience. The service was excellent, very hospitable, and patient, even toward my young kid under 1. For 6 adults, we ordered the below to share. It could have easily fed 7. Everything was very tasty and there's nothing our party didn't enjoy. You also get complimentary potato chips with aji sauce. - Ceviche mercado (5/5) - variety of seafood; portion looked small at first but the plate was actually very deep and filling. We appreciated that the seafood was fresh and not overly acidic. - Golden beet salad (5/5) - large portion size and very fresh. - Fried bananas (5/5) - I usually don't like fried plantains but these were actually very flavorful and tasty! About 6 pieces. - Anticucho de carne (4/5) - flavorful and tender, but only 3 pieces of meat. Previous pictures looked like there may have been more. Would double my order in the future for a large group or order steak a lo pobre instead. - Aji de gallina (4.5/5) - sweet, creamy, and subtle. Wish the chicken was a bit more tender, but overall still very good. Flavor profile could be comparable to a Thai yellow curry? Comes with rice. - Lomito saltado (5/5) - to be honest, I usually don't like lomo saltado because the meat is so dry, but this was both flavorful and tender! Best lomo saltado I've had. Those who don't like soggy fries will appreciate the "deconstructed" presentation. Comes with rice. - Seco de res (4/5) - this one might have been overhyped for me but I felt like it was not bad but also not amazing? The flavor was super subtle. Wish the shortrib was more tender. Bean lovers will rejoice though; their beans are very good. Comes with rice. - Pescado a lo macho (4.5/5) - really impressed with how the fish was still crispy beneath the sauce. The sauce is somewhat spicy, but with a slow burn. A very tasty slow burn. Comes with rice. Made reservations for a Thursday night at 5 and had no issues with parking. There's a small lot in the back or street parking. Will be back for $10 ceviche on Tuesday and to try the causas!

Yelp
Went with some friends. They loved the agua Fresca they got. Friends banana was great! It comes with a sauce on it. Made it sweet. Lomo Saltado- fries, rice and meat serves separately . I appreciated this because nothing got soggy. Delicious. I got the ahi ceviche. I was nervous because it had soy sauce, but the whole dish was sweet...almost like eel sauce. It had avocado slices and lots Of onion. The only bummer was the one tiny crisp (I like to have more to scoop it and have different textures They serve homemade chips with a yellow cream. Cream was a bit different but chip was very light and crisp I had a chicken empanada. Loved. It was the texture of a wonton (vs being doughy) friend got it too and likes Friend loved her beet salad. It was more salad than beets and looked delicious. It's pretty casual in there. A nice crowd for Monday night. Nothing notable about the service or ambience to report. Good!

Definitely a go to hidden gem. My friends and I found this place on yelp after we had gone to the local flea market. It was kind of the we still want to hang out but we were getting hungry thought. Turned out it was completely worth it. This place was a 6 out of 5 for me. 6/5. Reasons are as follows: 2/2 - Parking and Accessibility - There is ample free parking either on the streets nearby or in the parking lot behind the restaurant. Further, there are two entrances in the front, one with a semi ramp and a door way. It is also pet friendly and the owner provided us with a pet bowl to provide water for my friend's dog. 1/1 - Pricing and Portions - Between myself and my two other friends we went all out. Two dishes each and a drink. It was kind of pricey but will be understandable in a bit. 1.5/1 - Flavor - Each dish was excellent even down to the drinks. I went with a traditional chicha morada, a purple corn drink. The flavor was sweet with a little sour and perfect for a hot day. As for the meals I chose it was the anticucho de corazon and the causa trio. The remarkable thing with each of them was that each ingredient for the dishes was prominent and complimented the other. A verifiable flavor explosion, so whole the portion sizes aren't the biggest. The flavor and quality of the ingredients provided a fulfilling feeling. 1.5/1 - Service - The Owner is proud to share the heritage of the food and quick to make an effort to remember you. A core component of what makes a restaurant great, this allows you to feel like you are eating with a loving family. That you are remembered, listened to and appreciated. Overall, a definite recommendation and somewhere I hope to go to again. In all the things that matters, this place exceeds. In addition to this, they are offering a rewards program you do have to opt in to. Please inquire with the Owner for further details. I would not want to give false information.

Yelp
A pretty new Peruvian spot popped up so me and some friends came to check it out. One of my fave things about it were the tasty thinly sliced potato chips tossed in Aji sauce that were complimentary. We even asked our waiter if we could take home a big bag of them lol. I wanted to try something more than just Lomo Saltado so I opted for the Apanado with an Aji Amarillo sauce. So delicious! Beef cutlet was so tender and the portion was huge. Easily shareable for two people. The only disappointment was the steak. We asked for Medium well but it was pretty well done. Meat was still flavorful but quite chewy. Despite that the platanos were delicious. Really looking forward to coming back and trying new things!

Yelp
I thought the food was very impressive, and the service was flawless. Ceviche was excellent, and so was the beet & arugula salad, fried bananas, and chocolate cake (my dining partner has a sweet tooth!) Minor criticism of the salad, I would have liked more beets and hazelnuts, as the salad was about 90% arugula. However, it was very tasty, generous in proportion, and I would order it again without hesitation. I look forward to going back and trying more things on the menu!

Yelp
I recently dined at Ají as I was exploring options under LB Restaurant Week. I must say, my experience was underwhelming. The food, to start with, was very mediocre. It lacked the flavor and quality I was expecting, leaving much to be desired. The service didn't help elevate the experience either. Our waitress seemed to have forgotten about us after serving our meal. Despite the restaurant not being overly busy, she never checked in on our table to see if we needed anything. I specifically requested an extra steak knife, a simple enough request, yet it was never fulfilled. Additionally, my tea remained cold as she never offered to refill it with hot water, nor did she inquire if we wanted more water at any point during our meal. Service and food quality are paramount to a dining experience, and unfortunately, Ají fell short in both aspects during my visit.

Yelp
Wonderful food, everything we had was delicious! Started with a Maracuya Sour which I highly recommend. They brought the house chips with sauce for the table which are crunchy and the sauce is yum! We shared the empanadas, Conchitas a la Parmesana and fried Yucca between 3 of us which was a good amount. The main dishes are a generous portion and great value. I had the Pescado a lo Macho and it did not disappoint. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Service is fast but not rushed. The beer and wine selection is great and the wine cocktails are delicious! We had a mixture of appetizers and mains and everything was just great! Good for groups or date night! Highly recommended you try this place!

Yelp
The authenticity of the food here is just isn't there. It's a typical restaurant reinventing a staple dish but falling short. Great service; friendly and quick! The portion is a underwhelming for the typical Peruvian food portion, but the price is overwhelming.

Yelp
Mmm I'm Peruvian and well, I tried anticucho, arroz norteño, chicha morada and maracuyá sour. The drink is not like the real one that we have in Peru. I felt disappointed about that but I changed for a chicha morada and I really liked. Then the anticucho was good but too much vinegar and the arroz norteño I really enjoy but it was spicy. If you don't eat spicy food is not for you. The service was very good, very friendly but I recommend if it's a peruvian restaurant the person who attends needs to know about the food. Finally the ambiance I like it. Looks like a beef restaurant that we have in Peru. If you wanna hang out and eat you can go there but in my opinion is not the same as id you were in Peru

Yelp
Went here for my boyfriend's birthday today and it did not disappoint! We got the ahi de gallina and the pollo saltado. Both were great but the ahi de gallina was PHENOMENAL. The flavor of the sauce was so good and the chicken was so moist. And they give you these delicious chips in sauce beforehand too. Great dining experience and cozy ambiance!

Yelp
Restaurant has extremely limited parking , but it's in Long Beach so you can't expect much. The restaurant itself was very nice the decor was beautiful although it's nothing Peruvian. The service was super slow but the waitresses were nice and polite. For tonight I ordered causa trio , arroz chaufa , anticuchos , and papa a la hauncaina, the causas were lacking flavor , the potato itself needed more ají Amarillo, salt and lime juice, but the toppings on top were great, the chaufa although it wasn't traditional it was good no complaints there as well as the anticuchos those had great flavor. But the papa a la huancaina was flavorless and super watery, so after the first bite I stopped eating it. I truly think this restaurant has the potential to be great they just have to make some adjustments. Wouldn't mind going back there to eat again.

Yelp
This restaurant pretends to be fine dining with fine dining prices. I have dined at fancier peruvian restaurants with the same or better food for less money. Located on 4th street in long beach- trendy retro row. The food was plated nice but the taste did not wow me. The service was great but I cannot taste service. I go for the food. I was very underwhelmed even though it is popular and crowded. What do I know? I have only been eating peruvian food for 35 years and more than once a year. LOL

Yelp
Best Peruvian food I have had in my life. The hardest part was deciding what to order. The menu is clean and amazing and it's a classy place. The service was also great. I had the ceviche and beef heart (trust me it takes like steak if you didn't know). Certainly would come here again.

Yelp
Two words: chefs kiss ! I love and cherish Peruvian spots in SoCal that are authentic but also unique. I ordered a classic dish, the lomo saltado, which includes white rice, fries, steak and a mix of veggies. Absolutely cooked to perfection. The seasoning was so savory but not overpowering. The red wine didn't taste like it was days old and it was a solid choice for the pairing of food. This place gets very busy and there's not a lot of parking because the area is very popular. There are no reservations but I recommend showing up early because the waits can go up to 45 minutes for dinner on a weekend. I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Great food. Aji has been a great choice for good peruvian food in the neighborhood. Service is always good, and the ambiance is great for a date night.

Yelp
Skeptical non-Peruvian eater, but I am a pro now! Haha. Jkjk. Long story short, probably one of the best meals I've ever had in Long Beach. And dude, thank freaking goodness my friends and I went in when we did right at opening. Likeee zamnnnn who thought it would have gotten packed fast. Nonetheless food was phenomenal. The complimentary chipsssss though. I drooled. The 3 of us were having a hard time deciding on who was going to eat the last chip. Highkey sad it wasn't me. The empanada was amazing too! The flakiness of the dough but still holding the filling together, that's some bomb ish right there. The entree was my absolute fave. Now that I hope to have plans to relocate to Long Beach... I know where the f I'm eating daily.

Yelp
Enjoyed having dinner date here on a Saturday night. Food was delicious. Serving personnel were quite friendly. Highly recommend empanadas and asking for their homemade hot sauce(s).

Yelp
We just love this place. Not only the building is pretty cool, but the ambiance resembles an old world German tavern. lol. We love Peruvian food. Rosita, the owner is amazing. The wine list is long and they have good beer on tap. Burnt Ceasar rocks. Anticucho is my favorite. We had fried seafood platter it was delicious. Their ceviche is always on point. And don't forget the fried donuts for desert. One of the best spots in Long Beach. Hands down.

Yelp
Wow what a great find! Everything from here was amazing from the Lomo Saltado, Causa Spicy Tuna, Ceviche Mercado, Picarones, to the chips - but the two best dishes in my opinion were the Aji de Gallina and the Tallarines Verdes Con Apanado! The Aji de Gallina was truly one of the most creamy, tasty, and savory stews I've ever had. And believe me this is one my go-to dishes each time I try a new Peruvian restaurant. Tallarines Verdes Con Apanado translates to green noodles with breaded beef tenderloin. The green sauce was also one of the most creamiest, nuttiest, and cheesiest pesto sauces I ever had! I have only eaten this dish with spaghetti at other places but this place used linguine and I have to say I very much prefer this type of pasta for this dish! And their apanado was also one if the most juiciest, beef tenderloin covered in a fantastically flavored panko-breading! If I only lived closer, I would be a very frequent customer!
