"Longtime sushi chef Momo Young is the powerhouse behind Ajun Cajun, a popular vendor at festivals including Jazz Fest. Her permanent home, since 2019, is on Oak Street Uptown. Young’s food riffs creatively on traditional Japanese dishes, including teriyaki chicken, yakisoba noodles, flavorful ramen and donburi style rice bowls. Street snacks like gyoza, potato croquettes and takoyaki (octopus balls) pair beautifully with Japanese beer." - Beth D'Addono

This place is so cute! I love the vibe. I usually get it delivered but I went in for the first time & I'll definitely be going back. The food is always good & hot, with so much flavor. There's even an outside eating area which will be fun to enjoy with nice weather. The restaurant is easy to find and get into, there's no stairs, so the lot just gradually increases until you get to the door, very accessible.

I was nervous when I paid and tipped upfront, and I was nervous that when asked the employee how many hours the broth was boiled and she said “we make it in 15 minutes.” And then I was also nervous when I was handed a fork upfront. But the tonkatsu ramen was great. The broth was salty, creamy and thick. The noodles were chewy and good. Chasu was average in taste, but a good portion. The same employee was very sweet and let me take Halloween candy from a Halloween prop. It was a pleasant experience overall.

I came here for the first time last week, but if you want to eat authentic Japanese ramen, Please come here! It was awsome. It's more delicious and authentic than any other restaurant in the area‼︎

A super cute place and the food is always amazing! I've tried something different every time I've been and I've never been disappointed. It's only a few blocks from my place so it's an easy choice for nights that my wife and I don't feel like cooking.

SerpAPI
Low key and cute out of the way place that's a real gem. The staff are very genuine and friendly. The food is worth every penny. We had the Ahi tuna and Yakiniku Poboys and they were some of the best food we've had in our trip to the city.

This little gem of a restaurant is my new favorite for Asian food in the entire country. They have the most delicious and AUTHENTIC Yakisoba I've had anywhere on planet earth outside of Okinawa. This was my favorite food 30 years ago...I practically lived on it for the time I was over there but it never got old. I've tried soba from a lot of places since then, but it always tastes "just ok" and didn't really push the nostalgia button. From the very first bite, my Yakisoba from Ajun Cajun was like going back in time. It tastes exactly like I remembered and is such a comfort food for me. Just writing this review makes me want to go back for more.

Whenever I am in Nola visiting my children, we come here, love everything about it, only miss the cold noodle salad, lol. Such a variety of items, twice I have gotten the tonkatsu ramen, sooo good.

The only bad thing about this place was that there weren’t more customers there when I visited. Friendliness/Service: 5 stars. Very hospitable. Patient. Attentive. Cleanliness/Atmosphere: 4.5 stars. From what I can see is it is a clean place. Fun atmosphere. Don’t let outside of building fool you. Seems there are even places outside to eat if you need to. Perhaps a COVID addition. Food: 4.5 stars. I ordered the spicy garlic edamame. Very good. Slight kick. I also ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. I added some ingredients. Very good. I didn’t do spicy as I was told spicy is very spicy. Perhaps I will try spicy next time to see if it enhances the flavor. Broth wasn’t super rich at first but as it integrated with the other ingredients I noticed it became richer with each bite. Price: Place has a variety of menu options. Price for area about right. Price to portion seemed about right. Concept: I love the concept. It’s creative. An Asian Cajun fusion. Recommend and love supporting local businesses!

Yelp
Excellent and very authentic Food. Home made curry beef rice is very impressive. Fries is very good too. Crab stick and cucumber salad is fresh. Environment: full of beautiful.

Yelp
Fusion Japanese comfort food and with a Cajun flair, Ajun Cajun is a fun little spot New Orleans serving everything from poboys to ramen and yakisoba to gumbo. The owner is sweet and the flavors are out of this world. Prices are very reasonable $-$$$ and portions are very much shareable.

Charles A.

Yelp
If this place was located in a more popular area it would be crazy busy but for some reason oak street businesses struggle to survive. Most restaurants only survive a year or two at best. The fact that Ajun Cajun has made it this far is a testament to their flavorful cuisine.

Khai N.

Yelp
Food was amazing. The pork katsu curry reminded me of Japan. It is a must try. The place is a small Cajun Asian fusion serving New Orleans / Japanese food. Very unique place. Service was great as well. I would definitely come back to try other dishes.

Fred M.

Yelp
My daughter and I got delivery from here recently and we really liked it! As the name suggests it is Cajun food with an Asian twist. Sounds crazy but it works! We ordered the Yakiniku Po-Boy, and the Teriyaki Chicken Po-Boy. We preferred the Teriyaki, but both were delicious! Prices are reasonable for what you get. Can't wait to try some of their other offerings!

Takia N.

Yelp
Best softshell crab Poboy in New Orleans & the service was amazing. We will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Ajun Cajun is a cool spot on Oak Street. I decided to give them a shot by trying their fried shrimp platter w fries & broccoli salad w a side of their Cajun sauce. The service was to the point you walk in order at the bar and seat yourself and a server brings out your food. Everything was fried perfectly the batter had a little heat from the pepper but it was good none the less. The Cajun sauce had a hint of sesame oil it was tasty too but I would've loved some tartar sauce which they didn't carry. Overall it was a good meal. I'll just bring my own tartar sauce next time.

Kimberly F.

Yelp
This place has excellent Ramen. You have to wait a little while, but the miso Ramen was worth the wait. I would recommend adding cashu, corn and an egg. No alcohol but that's OK.

Mina H.

Yelp
If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would. The ramen I tried was PHENOMENAL! I promise, it's the best ramen in New Orleans. The tonkotsu ramen here blows other area ramen shops out of the water. As a Japanese girl that appreciates good ramen, Ajun Cajun ramen tastes authentic. This comes with no surprise because this shop is one of the few Japanese restaurants in New Orleans run by actual Japanese owners. It's a must try spot for anyone who loves ramen! The ramen is as authentic to Japan as you can get in New Orleans. We tried the miso and the tonkotsu, and they were both fantastic! Taste-wise phenomenal, portions were generous, and the prices were very fair ($14). I loved the tonkotsu and can't recommend it enough, but my boyfriend loved the miso more. They cook their pork bones for the broth for two whole days here, so the broth is just packed full of that rich decadent flavor you need in ramen. As a side note, we also tried the oyako-donburi ($12). Delicious! Tastes like my grandma's home-cooking in Japan! General overview, this is a super cute casual space with cafeteria-style dining. Meaning, you order and pay at the counter and help yourself to drinks. They will bring the food to your table, but then you toss the trash and bring the dirty dishes to their bins yourself after you're done. I actually love and prefer it this way. (This might be how they keep their menu prices so reasonable compared to other Japanese places!) The space is decorated with tons of plants and lights for a cozy feel. It feels like a comfy day-time coffee shop, but they are open for meals only from 3pm to 9pm. I've been told the restaurant started off exclusively doing pop-ups at festivals, and they decided to open up a permanent location a few years ago. If it hadn't been for the pandemic, I probably would have heard about this spot sooner! This is a family-owned shop where you'll probably get to meet the mother/daughter duo. Momo (the chef) and Angel (front of the house) were lovely! My only regret is that I didn't discover this place sooner!!

Gia M.

Yelp
Found this place by total accident. The ambiance is quirky yet homey. The service was solid and the food was prepared quickly. We enjoyed everything and had leftovers for sure. The portions are large for the price point.

T Y.

Yelp
Had the Tonkutsu. Took a while to come out but it was good. Could've been a little creamier but not bad. Owner was very nice.

Andrea S.

Yelp
WOW! Talk about a cool plant/ramen joint! The home cooked Tonkotsu was on point. We had both the spicy and regular. But the absolute best part was Chef! She gifted my husband the shirt ever! Thank you Chef!

Lita G.

Yelp
This was probably the highlight of my food adventures during the visit to NoLa. My friend had a list of local spots to check out, and cajun japanese fusion sounded quite interesting so we gave it a try. As you make your way here, you'll be driving through a residential neighborhood and then arrive at a big house where they're located. They have a few parking spaces out back, as well as some tables setup under a tent outside. They're currently only doing takeout and that's why they have the tables available outside. We ordered a bunch of stuff, and we were all very happy. I had the cajun tuna tataki po boy which was wonderful and fresh, and also had the takoyaki which was on par with takoyaki I've had in Japan or other Japanese spots in the US. This place is worth going to even if you're just visiting as a tourist.

Jacob C.

Yelp
Best ramen I've had in NOLA! We shared the tonkotsu ramen and the Yakinimu po-boy, both of which were delicious. Not too crowded on a week night, and parking lot is very convenient. We will be coming back.

Diego M.

Yelp
I've had lots of ramen, coming from los angeles. But this place. This place has the best ramen I have ever had in my life, with the best eggs I've ever had. The only thing that was not 100% completely perfect were the noodles, but at that point, when everything else is perfection, can I really complain? This place is worth a trip to new orleans on its own

shrey d.

Yelp
Best Japanese restaurant in town hands down. I have tried their tonkostu ramen, curry rice with Katsu, their miso ramen, yakisoba and udon. I have visited this place more often than i can remember and goal is to try every item in the menu. The meal resemble home cooked Japanese meal with a lot of flavor and amazing taste. Highly recommend this place and another bonus point is their items are very reasonably priced.

Anna B.

Yelp
Tonkotsu and miso ramen are so good-add corn and seasoned egg! Best ramen in NOLA since Kin closed, prices are great, and the owners are very friendly! Loved the garlic edamame as well! Can't wait to come back and try more

Naima F.

Yelp
Ordered delivery, it was okay, miso soup was great but the seaweed salad was surprisingly sweet that it felt inedible. I'd go back but would switch up the order!

Quoc H.

Yelp
Haven't been disappointed yet, 4 time eating here. Food is always superb. The ambiance is relaxing, Japan meets New Orleans . Service is great for one person. Order at counter. Take a seat. Wait and enjoy. Wish ramen had take out . My new ramen spot.

Kristin M.

Yelp
This place is unique and delicious. Clean, easy to access, with friendly and fast service

Scarlett M.

Yelp
I guess this review is very timely. I love "real" ramen, but so far this is only the third ramen place I have gotten to try in the New Orleans area. Of those three, one has gone out of business and one has recently switched to serving fried chicken. Oh dear. So how was Ajun Cajun? First, I'd like to mention that it actually has a parking lot, which is a nice amenity. It also had a couple of outdoor tables under a decent sized canopy, so I didn't have to worry about my shade vanishing halfway through my meal. Very nice. I got the pork tonkotsu ramen with added corn. It was so good! There was enough for two meals, and after each meal I was licking my bowl for every last drop of that broth. Will definitely be back.

Rosalee C.

Yelp
Local hidden gem with delicious Japanese comfort food and Asian Fusion Cajun. We got the ginger pork with rice (shogayaki donburi) and pork katsu curry rice. Service was friendly and food was delicious. The owner also grows lots of unique plants inside and out, and was super excited to show us around. Stop by for a great meal and check out the plants!

Zabrina R.

Yelp
A hole-in-the-wall, hidden gem of an Asian fusion spot if I ever did see one. You get a mix of Japanese food with Cajun flair, and it's become 100% my favorite ramen spot in Nola. The noodles are cooked perfectly, the broth is rich and flavorful. They are practicing safe, social distancing guidelines as of February 2021 - with masks and take out options. What stands out is the SUPER friendly service. Even on the phone they were really accommodating! Overall a perfect spot for some good comfort ramen away from the hustle & bustle of the city.

Caity W.

Yelp
We came in for dinner. About 5:00. My husband & I stood looking at the menu wall for a bit debating what we would like to get. When we came in someone was at the counter, when we were ready to order there was no one around. We stood waiting a while til someone came to take our order. We both got po boys- the only thing good about them was the sauce, and the bread. Everything else was pretty flavorless. Would not recommend.

Jon B.

Yelp
Stayed at an AIRBB nearby and was looking for some grub . Unfortunately , most places were closed but not this unique spot ! Friendly, cozy Asian Cajun vibe just like the name . I ordered a special , Asia. Po boy with some gumbo . Super friendly service and atmosphere . A cool little place worth the visits with unique eats .

Rachel A.

Yelp
We were looking for somewhere we could get fusion food and this place nailed it. We got the chicken teriyaki po boy and the yakiniku po boy and they did not disappoint. The chicken teriyaki was like chicken karaage with teriyaki sauce on top. The yakiniku was delicious and not something I'd had before. The bread was hefty enough to hold everything that was inside but not too crunchy with a soft inside but being nice and toasted. If you're looking for a different take on a po boy I'd definitely suggest this place! The inside is cute with a handful of tables and a wonderfully nice staff. There's a parking lot outside where you can park your car as well so no need to worry about street parking.

Sheryl M.

Yelp
I saw a post on FB last week about Ajun Cajun on Oak street and decided to try it for lunch. The food was so amazing I came back the same night for dinner. I'm back here again for lunch. The Beef Udon was absolutely to die for. Delicious broth and noodles were so fresh and perfect thickness and consistency! What kills me is that the restaurant is empty! Maybe they are much busier at other times, but I want to urge those of you out there who want a OUTSTANDING meal to check this place out. Seems to be family owned by a mother and daughter. Definitely a place that NOLA should embrace and support. Just by the way, I saw the mom outside using her weed whacker on the lawn after she had made our meals. Talk about a doing it all as a business owner! Check this place out, you will not be disappointed!

Jonathan S.

Yelp
AMAZING! We were planning on Jacque-Imo's but they were closed for a holiday. Ajun Cajun was across the street and did not disappoint. We split a po boy, donburi, and fries. Every bite was magical and we are looking forward to our next visit. We did not realize it was BYOB so keep that in mind. You can't go wrong with this restaurant!

Joi B.

Yelp
This is not only one of the most unique restaurant concepts, it's also expertly executed (and with a lot of love, at that). Ajun Cajun is the best of all worlds and whether you're a visitor or a local, it's a must-try! We visited on a Monday night and it was a quiet one, which was really nice, given that over the weekend it was hard to get a reservation at places that are slowly, but surely getting "back to normal." Right now, this glorious place is FOH -operated by the owner, who is the nicest guy. I loved hearing how this concept came to be, as sort of a second generation of Ninja, which we did visit when we lived here years ago. Ajun Cajun is its hip, younger sibling, a fusion of the two cuisines, thanks to the owner being of both Cajun and Japanese descent. This isn't some BS hipster trend, but an authentic representation of both flavors. The menu is extensive and has plenty of vegetarian/vegan options, including ramen, udon and donburi. I ordered the latter. It's a simple dish with loads of vegetables, tofu skin (my favorite!) over rice, and it's seasoned perfectly, so that I couldn't help but finish every bit of the very generous portion. My husband had their famous yakiniku po-boy, which is sliced rib-eye with cheese, dressed. He pretty much inhaled the thing, so yeah, I believe it lived up to the hype. I CAN report as to the cajun-spiced fries which are insanely perfect. I really love this place and feel like it'll be on our regular rotation when visiting home again.

Stephen M.

Yelp
I recently dined at Ajun Cajun, and it was an absolute delight. The ambiance was charming, the service impeccable, and the food? Simply divine!

K F.

Yelp
Five stars, easy! I've been here 3 times in the last month or so and it has been delicious every time! I've had the shrimp yakisoba and both the regular and creamy miso vegetarian ramen and omg...chef's kiss. Each dish was so flavorful...hands down the best ramen in the city. Also, the little woman who takes the orders is just so, so sweet. And the space is filled with plants (even some variegated monsteras!), so I knew it would be great. Don't walk, run! Highly, highly recommend!

John J.

Yelp
Well inside the neighborhood, seems like a house converted to a nice restaurant. Obviously my first time here, recommended by company CEO. I was the first customer of the day, the door clicked open as I walked up. Lots of menu choices as you can see on the wall and I heard noodle was good, so I ordered tonkotsu ramen and gumbo. I know it's strange combination but I like to test what the place has to offer. It was not disappointing. Ramen was Very Good. Enough not to go to Houston and the prices are very reasonable. They also have vegetarian version if you so choose. Great find. Try them out!

Mutiso F.

Yelp
Too bad this place only allowed outside seating but the day wasn't too cold. I was expecting some spicy Cajun dishes but got average. The Salmon Poboy was good but not excellent. It was very fresh but the flavor wasn't there for me. The winner of the show was the Edamame! It tasted like it was dipped in a soy/ginger/garlic sauce and then grilled? Man, that was epic. Salute to the nice lady behind the counter. She was very nice and attentive. I love outta the way spots in less busy neighborhoods and this one is that. I'd definitely come back and try other dishes. The other stuff coming out smelled great.

Kim Koung S.

Yelp
The place was very unique and had a inviting interior. The side dishes we had were good, but felt as though some items like the Cajun fries or the gyoza's were just frozen items they microwaved. I came in as a group of 4 and we ordered ramen and a don bowl. Two of us had the champon Ramon, which was very confusing. There was too much vegetables/individual flavors that it took away the enjoyment of the broth and noodles. The bowls came in plastic containers which made our dining experience feel somewhat lackluster as it felt as though I was eating instant ramen. Overall, this place has good side dishes, but the entrees were disappointing.I didn't try their Cajun side of the restaurant but would definitely come back to try it.

Ruiki T.

Yelp
The ramen is so legit here !! And they have plenty of exotic plants to look at. Must come back for other dishes as their menu is amazingly extensive

Joshua V.

Yelp
Best Ramen in Nola!!! This neighborhood Gem is such a treat! The Donburi plates are amazing as well. I usually order the Takoyaki as an app and it's a home run every time! Fantastic family run and worth every penny!

Serita G.

Yelp
Not a regular I'm the area but this is a house turned into a Resturant but they did not have jambalaya Very sad We left it was not very welcoming

Rebecca G.

Yelp
So good! Ninja Salad, tuna tataki, and takoyaki are all fabulous. Check out this place.

Meagan J.

Yelp
Pretty good and the service was great. I had the ribeye poboy and it was really flavorful! Literally, every bite had flavor. The ribeye was tender and they definitely loaded the poboy up. The Cajun fries were good as well. The sauce that comes with the fries are like a spicy mayo but sweet. I wasn't a fan. I think the fries can go without it. Overall, it was good and I would visit again. It's not a place I would crave for everyday, atleast for me but it's good!

Laura E.

Yelp
The food is amazing here, I've only eaten there once but I can't wait to go back and try more of their menu. I took my order to go and they were very prompt too.

Henry B.

Yelp
Finally caught them open‼ Since we can't have French Quarter fest they have a restaurant that Japanese po-boy is insane

Lacey D.

Yelp
My husband and I picked up takeout on a Thursday evening. We shared the Yakiniku and Saginaki po-boys. They were excellent! The service process was quick and they brought it out to the car. The only thing was, when we got home the bottom bread was mushy and soaked through. Next time, I will ask for the bread and filling separate for transport. I am excited to try their soft shell crab po boy! #yelplove

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
My new favorite place! They have their own parking lot off Oak, it's never been packed every time we went, the menu is broad and has a lot of options for everyone, and their ramen is to die for. I'm ashamed to admit I've only ordered one item from them every single time because I love trying new things, but I just can't cheat on their ramen like that. It's TO DIE FOR. I love that all their ramen comes with Chashu (pork), bok choy, mushrooms, and nori (seaweed), you just pick your base and any extra toppings. I always add corn, garlic oil, and a seasoned soft boiled egg. It's super filling, super comforting, and the taste is excellent through the last drop. My husband has at least mixed it up a bit. He tried their rise and shine poboy with grilled sausage, scrambled eggs, and torched cheese on top (don't knock it until you try it), and this time he got the pepper shrimp poboy which is grilled shrimp tossed in this mildly spicy pepper sauce. Fries aren't included in the price of the sandwich, but worth it to add on. They're like the Rally's batter fries, and they're served with their pink sauce made famous at festivals on their fried softshell crab poboy (tastes like it has sesame oil in it, and it does have little tiny orange fish row in it, so vegans be aware), but it's definitely habit forming. Order at the counter and then sit down, and sometimes they have a waiter to help bus their tables, but if you have a free hand, the bins and trashcan are all labelled for where you out your trays and cups and stuff!

Bailak J.

Yelp
The ladies who own the Restaurant are absolutely amazing and so sweet! They're so patient with everyone even when they were so busy and bustling! The food here is sooooo delicious and I will come back to order more with my family! I had the Pork Curry and it was so tender, crispy because of the perfectly fried panko, and the curry sauce over the rice put it all together in harmony! I was also curious about their potato croquettes and they blew me away! The crunch you get when you first bite into it, the soft mashed potatoes you bite into, and the sweet sauce given to pair with it married together perfectly. I don't know what other words to say about Ajun Cajun but only PERFECTION! The ladies are so courteous and check up on you! We absolutely adored the outdoor seating they had! We ordered to-go so that way we wouldn't be too much of a burden because they were definitely slammed with people and we didn't mind the wait! If you crave good, home cooked Japanese food but also love that Louisianian flavor of Cajun as well, Ajun Cajun is your perfect place to go! Take a streetcar to Oak st and head on down!!

Stephen F.

Yelp
Delicious asian-cajun fusion! Great menu, delicious yakisoba and ramen! Order at the counter and then sit. Service is very friendly and attentive. Decor is chic and cute but not overly busy. A very nice, calming place. Will go again.

Monique L.

Yelp
This place is very unassuming and easy to miss if you aren't looking but it's a gem! The front door isn't on oak st tho, it's to the left of the building. They have AMAZING Japanese curry!! It tastes like my favorite I had in New York. Absolutely delicious and it's well seasoned. I will definitely frequent just for this dish. There ramen also looks like it's good. Only reason it's 4 stars is because they wouldn't give us an option to get it without pork or sub the pork for a different meat. My boyfriend doesn't eat Pork so it was disappointing. We may try again to do this next time and see if they'll work with us. It should be fairly easy since they have miso and shio options. Will update my review if we can! The staff is also very nice and friendly

Carl K.

Yelp
I'm not going to lie - the name of the place and its sign outside kind of deterred me from visiting this place; it wasn't until my friend asked me to go did I finally muster up the courage to do so. And honestly, don't make the same mistake I did. First off, they have a parking lot. We know how difficult that is to find around here so that's a major plus. The server/co-owner(?) was really friendly and helped us choose what we should get. My friend got the ramen whereas I opted for the Yakiniku poboy and Cajun fries. Man, first off the Cajun fries are perfectly crispy and the sauce that it comes with is sooo good. He wouldn't tell us what it's made of, but he doesn't know how persistent I am. The poboy was decently sized and the meat has a garlic sauce (almost bulgogi like) and mozzarella cheese. It's definitely an interesting taste but I didn't mind it at all. I highly recommend the place if you haven't visited yet!

Liz V.

Yelp
My husband had complained about not having a ramen place in our neighborhood and BAM Eater had an article about a new ramen place opening up on Oak St. We walked on a cold weather day. I ordered Tonkatsu ramen with an egg and corn. My husband ordered the Nabeyaki Udon. We got the Ajun Cajun chicken and the pickled vegetables on the side. I got a hot green tea (with two free refills) and my husband got a Sapporo beer. The chicken is DELICIOUS- it's dark meat and definitely fried in a seasoned corn starch so it's not heavy or greasy but perfectly cooked, seasoned, and tender. Honestly, it's delicious. We will 100% come again. It's super close to where we live, the food is fantastic, and the prices are affordable.

Z A.

Yelp
My favorite po-boy/banh mi place in the city. The location is great, the place is clean, the ambiance is cool, and the staff is so sweet. The only possible negative is that COVID took a hit and it is only open after 3PM. I can't get enough of their pepper shrimp po-boy. The fries are good too.
