Akeno Sushi Bar and Thai Review - Capitol Hill - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Akeno Sushi Bar and Thai is the kind of place you take your friends to on a Friday night where everyone can grab a round of drinks from the restaurant's tiki-bar-esque cocktail menu while contemplating the chances of a federal shutdown, again. But it’s not until you try the sushi, that you really start paying attention to this Capitol Hill spot. The restaurant's sushi specials like the Akeno roll, made with a soft-shell crab tempura, can make any conversation, even conversation about government shutdowns, appealing." - Omnia Saed

Tried their Fried Sumai, Steamed Dumplings, Spicy Crunchy Rolls with shrimp, and the Pad Thai Noodles. Loved the taste. Also, loved the environment and the service. Going back soon for sure!

I wish I tried this place earlier, best Japanese options, and taste i have ever tasted. So fresh and delicious. My wife and I came here one time. Now we come 2 times a week. Take my advice and enjoy a happy belly full of fresh food.

Google
I frequently eat at this shopping center and have always wanted to try this place. The sushi we ordered was beautifully presented, fresh, and delicious. Thank you for all the reviews. I would definitely return again

Google
This place is the cutest. If you're looking for good food, beautiful decor, and relaxed vibes, you will love this place. The place has outside seating, and the servers were very attentive. I would recommend this place to anyone and will definitely go again.

Google
Came in with my friends for the lunch specials and it was great, the fish was fresh and everything was beautifully plated. My drinks stayed full and service was quick and quite friendly. My favorite dish was the takoyaki and the salmon nigiri. Great little place and gorgeous

Google
I like this place. Been there three times, the sushi is fine and their other dishes are right too. Lychee cocktail is particularly nice and the boat presentation for sushis is quite memorable. Atmosphere is nice, good decor. Service is polite.

Google
I have been to this shopping center a couple of times and always thought about going in but haven't. Today I was craving sushi so I said why not. This place did not disappoint. They have a happy hour special that I enjoyed. The servers made sure I was taken care of and made sure that I only ordered things that would like. The sushi was fresh and everything was delicious. I will be back.

I was really looking forward to visiting Akeno Sushi Bar and Thai again. I absolutely loved the food, the drinks, and the overall atmosphere the first time I went, —it was such a great experience that I couldn’t wait to share again with my husband. The owners were incredibly nice and wonderful, and I was so excited to continue being their customer. Unfortunately, my second visit was extremely disappointing. From the start, the hostess (or waitress) was VERY rude and dismissive toward me. I asked if we could sit by the window because the other available tables were quite noisy, and I have a hard time hearing in loud environments. I wanted to enjoy a nice conversation with my husband, especially since this was going to be his very first time trying sushi. Instead of being understanding or accommodating, the hostess gave me strange looks whenever I asked for something or for clarification. Her attitude made me feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, and disrespected. It was SOO bad that we decided to leave before even ordering. My husband never got to try the sushi I had raved about, and our evening was ruined because of the rude waitress/hostess. I was prepared to spend well over $150 on dinner that night, but instead, we took our business elsewhere. I’m genuinely sad to write this because my first experience here was SO wonderful :( -- But consistent kindness and good service are just as important as great food, and unfortunately, my second visit to Akeno Sushi Bar and Thai was a complete letdown due to the poor customer service.

Yelp
My top 3 sushi spots in the area. I've had both dine-in and takeout of their sushi and it's always top notch. I love to take my friends and family here and they agree that this spot has some of the best sushi they've ever had. Reasonable prices and a large menu to choose from. Also menu is not limited to only sushi but their thai food is very good as well. My favorite rolls come from their special rolls section. I almost always get the baked salmon roll. Service is always fast and I have never dined in with a long wait for a table. Very cute and aesthetic dishes. I like that they add decorative flowers to their plates. Very friendly staff and I always like coming here no matter the occasion.

Yelp
We went on Mother's Day after I decided that I wanted sushi at the last minute. We were able to score a 6pm reservation around 1:30pm that same day. The restaurant is really small, but it wasn't busy. My family enjoyed their meals. We shared a few sushi rolls, which came out nicely plated with a pretty flower. We enjoyed: ramen, shrimp fried rice, Teriyaki chicken, beef and broccoli. They threw in mochi ice cream for dessert.

Yelp
Seated quickly. Opted for the bar. Drink was visually and taste appealing. Sweet and delicious! I ordered the Kappa Rainbow. No rice! Open up wide for these pieces of deliciousness! Crunchy with that lovely salmon and tuna! Yum! Then I ordered the crispy rice tartare. Nice and crunchy. I could only eat a few pieces out of the 6 due to the rice but wanted to try it. So I bit the top off of them and had the tartare with a smaller amount of rice. lol Again great taste. For those who had the GB, If you are not wanting to fill up on rice they do have option available. You just need to ask. Full bar, a few beer on tap options as well for those who like beer. I like their bottles of soy sau

Yelp
Beautiful presentation of sushi and drinks and love the flower wall. I had the minami roll which was really tasty, crawfish fried rice was bland sadly and the drink that was like a lychee martini was cute and delicious. I would come back for the sushi as it's very fresh and they have many options.

Yelp
This was the 2nd time I've been here and forgot to do a review back in I believe Jan 2025...so I will do (2) reviews as the latest time was March 28th a Friday night during HH! And wow I'll definitely have to come back again when I'm in the area because the sushi and drinks were fire. I love me some sushi and I like to find great spots every place I go. I'm not one of these people who seems to be scared to eat alone because I'm a grown as woman! lol I like to go on a whim and don't need folks flaking on me. But anyways back to the goodness of Akeno! So I can't really remember what I got back in January but I know I tried the fatty tuna or York and some regular roll I usually get. And I remember it was like butter and was worth the extra coins. Now fats forward to March 28th I wanted to take advantage of HH so I sat at the bar and order the fried shumai and a tuna roll because I was starving! It's was packed up in there too, but the waiters were quick with sitting me down and given me a menu to order. Now to go I got the spicy basil fried rice with chicken and shrimp! Fire!!! OMG I wish I would have gotten extra shrimp because they only give you like 4 shrimp. But other than that it was so good! Also got the mango and sticky rice which was not good. Not sure if it's only me but I don't like green sticky rice. I was really disappointed that it was not good. I think I might have gotten something else to go but while I waited I order another drink which was the Mai Thai or hurricane. Both were really good. I love this little establishment and the bathroom is really cute and I cannot wait to come back during HH and/or during lunch again!

Yelp
Solid spot for sushi, ramen, Thai food & drinks! Tonight (04.04.25) was my first visit to Akeno ALX and I definitely plan to return. My husband and I chose Akeno for our date night meal. We had a 6:30 pm table reservation but didn't need one as the indoor dining crowd didn't arrive until closer to 7:00. We chose to sit at the bar. Seating became a bit tight so I'd rec removing a chair to open up some elbow room. Timing of our apps and entrees could have been done better but service was otherwise good! The staff was attentive & friendly and the bar was well stocked! Happy hour is offered daily from 4- 6 pm. I also appreciate that the menus include photos of some of the food & drink offerings. All of the menu items we ordered were fresh and full of flavor! My favorites were the Chashu Roti Roll appetizer, Pad See Ew entree & Cinnamon Painapuru cocktail. The taste of the tamarind sauce in the roti roll elevated the entire dish. The broccoli in the Pad See Ew had the best taste & texture of all the plates of Pad See Ew I've tried across the DMV. It was seasoned well & steamed without becoming soggy or too mushy. Two words for the Cinnamon Painapuru cocktail -- buy it! It's presented beautifully and bursting with refreshing pineapple & yuzu flavors paired with warm notes of cinnamon, honey & ginger. Akeno is attentive to details. I was impressed by the effort & intricacy behind the presentation of our orders. The indoor vibe at Akeno is very chill! The indoor space is decorated uniquely with creative statement walls and modern furniture. Outdoor seating was very busy & sits flush with seating from the restaurant next to it. Carpool or ride share if you're going with a group as parking is limited. Akeno shares a parking lot with a Lidl & many other busy restaurants and shops. Be prepared to wait for a spot during busy times. Last but certainly not least SHOUTOUT to whomever made the decision to put a full-sized changing table in the ladies restroom! As a mama of three young children, I very much appreciate the thoughtfulness and consideration that went in to making that decision

Yelp
Baked salmon roll is really good here and highly recommend getting that! I've also tried their pad see ew, it wasn't bad but I've definitely had a lot better and likely won't order that again

Yelp
I've been to Akeno three times now for happy hour and once for dinner. It is a small Sushi & Thai restaurant that has a bar & both indoor & outdoor dining area and it is located in the Pinecrest Plaza. They have a nice happy hour with both drink and food specials so you can't go wrong, and when the weather is nice, it's fun to sit out on the patio and chillax. The service is usually friendly and attentive, but sometimes during HH you are made to feel like your time is up & you should move on, but hey, don't have specials if you don't want the business, lol. The sushi is decent and the presentations are really eye-catching. I have to say the specialty craft cocktails are creative, amazing and delicious. I have not tried any of the Thai dishes so I cannot comment on them but the menu looks great. The decor is cute & the ambiance is nice & relaxed & Akeno is a great little local spot.

Yelp
Absolutely the best sushi in town! Everything was super fresh, flavorful, and beautifully served. Loved the ambiance too. Can't wait to go back! Highly recommend Akeno Sushi Bar!

Yelp
I think this is a great local spot for a real quick sushi bite. It was fresh and tasty. It's not the "best" sushi there is but that's because I'm thinking of omakese experiences that are top level but for a sushi dinner after work, I'd recommend. I had the double toro roll and the crunchy salmon roll with a spring roll. Service was great too, he had good insight for a friend who was pregnant and what she should or shouldn't order. And it was a cute spot. I didn't expect this for a local chill spot

Yelp
This place is simply the cutest find with absolutely delicious food! Service: we secured our reservations through Yelp and it appears that there was an issue because they couldn't find my name so that held us up a bit. Nonetheless, some of the staff were friendly while others made us feel rushed to finish up our meals in hopes of securing the table...speaks to the fact that this place is very small and large groups would not be comfortable. Thanks to our waiter Wee, who shared his duties with some of the other staff as he was working a lot of areas. Ambiance: I absolutely LOVE the decor, it brings Asian culture to the forefront with a very stylish approach. The bathroom was beautifully decorated and I must note that they had a changing table in the bathroom! I support establishments that allow moms to care for their kids without issues! With mention of change table, I would say that this place isn't small child friendly nor couples friendly as the noise level was way too high and given the size of the place, you cannot be comfortable to lead an intimate conversation nor have a small child be free. It's probably better for anyone not really desiring to speak much and instead enjoy great food. Drinks: My boyfriend and I ordered sake as I have never thought to try it and wanted to give it a go. We opted for the Yuzu Sake: Yuzu Omoi Citrus Dream ($11) 3oz (menu description) which was a nice serving size complimented by an adorable rose shaped ice cube. Appetizers: Crab Rangoon and Gyoza Crab Rangoon- STOLE the show of ALL of the things that we ordered. This was a small yet powerful dish which literally burst with flavor upon each bite. I would highly recommend these are they were absolutely delicious. Gyoza: this was my least favorite dish because I can tell that water entered some of the dumplings and they had a very soggy/watery taste. The meat inside lacked any type of seasoning and it wasn't enjoyable at all. Main entree: Kaprow Beef and Red Dragon Roll Both of these dishes were STELLAR! And like the crab Rangoon, they won for flavor! The Kaprow beef was tender, well seasoned and drenched in the most delicious Thai basil chili sauce paired with onions, broccoli, and red peppers (side of white rice). This is shareable, trust me, no one person can eat this in one sitting. I was stuffed after a few bites so my boyfriend and I enjoyed sharing this moment and taste experience together. Red Dragon Roll! Ooooooo baby, this is some delicious sushi. The dish breakdown: Shrimp tempura / avocado / cucumber topped with spicy tuna / tobiko / eel sauce / spicy mayo. (Menu description) The presentation: very creative! Like the Kaprow, this is a shareable dish and one not to be missed at all. It was scrumptious! Price for two: $71.95-Not bad for a wholesome dining experience. Would I return? Of course! For that cuisine experience, I will visit again. I wish however, that the music was lowered to balance of the space and prevent guests from yelling lol Aside from this, the decor and food was worth all of my time!

Yelp
The service is always top notch here. They always make sure you're taken care of! The cooks make very dish with a lot of attention to detail. We got the double toro roll and the double yellowtail roll. The presentation, taste, and texture of the rolls we got were perfect and so balanced and good. The ambiance is casual, and their cute street vibe decorations make it a great place to hang out, eat, and take some photos. It's also not loud so you can have conversations without having to raise your voice. This is one of my favorite sushi places in the area. I love coming here for good food, conversation, and vibes.

Yelp
I had one of the most disgusting dining experiences at Akeno. This place is located about halfway into The Mill, and I seriously regret stopping by. We found live maggots moving around in the sashimi--absolutely unacceptable. When we raised our concern to the waiter, instead of handling it professionally, he gave us the dirtiest look and immediately took the plate away as we were trying to take pictures. To make matters worse, we were still charged for the dish because, according to them, we had eaten half of it before noticing the issue. That's beyond ridiculous. A restaurant serving raw fish should have the highest standards for freshness and hygiene, but clearly, Akeno does not. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place. Bad customer service and is unhygienic.
google avatar

Renee R.

Yelp
Quaint restaurant with friendly staff and great sushi! Located in a shopping center so parking may be limited due to the grocery store and other shops/restaurants nearby. Will definitely return whenever we're back in that area.

Yelp
We keep going back to Akeno and trying new items from their expansive menu. The green curry ramen is a unique and delicious option, and the specialty sushi rolls (and their presentation) are not to be beat! The service is always excellent, and we are big fans of the friendly and courteous waitstaff. Last but not least, the vibe in the restaurant is fun and trendy. We invited a large group of friends for NYE when our usual sushi spot was closed...and everyone agreed they preferred Akeno!

Christy Patron P.

Yelp
Just ordered from Akino Sushi and Bar, and I'm loving the food so far! The fried shiomai was crispy perfection, and the sushi was fresh and flavorful. Can't wait to try more of their menu!
google avatar

Monica W.

Yelp
I always do take-away and besides one time they have always gotten my order correct. I've ordered A LOT from this establishment. My go to? Shrimp and veggie tempura sans the veggie and extra shrimp. Could I make it at home? YES! But the convenience of take-away is way too appealing. I generally go after work. Ordering and pickup is a breeze. The staff are nice and accommodating.

Yelp
I just love this small restaurant that is decorated so nicely and has the friendliest staff! Of course the food is excellent as well. Their menu is huge and I took pictures. My granddaughter loves their California Rolls. I have tried several Thai dishes and always try to order something new...never had a bad meal there! Try them, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Amazing sushi and fast service would definitely come back. Cute atmosphere as well!! Staff was very friendly and also they offer military discount

Yelp
I had the spider roll and rainbow roll. I think the spider roll was bad meat, I rarely have to spit anything out instantly.

Yelp
the matcha sour and the lavender drinks are so yummy. also their sausage is so good. love the vibes service is always great here. i wish it was closer so i could go more often but also probs would be dangerous for my wallet if i did that

Yelp
This place is so good that I take everyone I know here. I've only ever had extremely delicious food here and I've been here A LOT. The waiters are kind and attentive and the decor is so cute. My favorites are the pad see ew with chicken, the spicy yellowtail roll, and the chicken wings!
google avatar

Yelp
This is such a little gem nestled in the shopping plaza. Ive not tried their Thai food, but I come back all the time for their sushi! The service has been great every time, and they even have a nameplate for your table when you make a reservation!! The decorations are cozy and cute, and the vibes are casual yet intimate. Great for a date night or a catch up session with friends. I am obsessed with their mocktails which taste so refreshing!! The aesthetics are an added bonus. They use real flowers to decorate the drinks. As for sushi, I had the chirashi bowl, salmon lovers, and buri buri roll. The buri buri roll was so good I had to order another. It's spicy and flavorful. This is one of my go-to sushi spots. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The service was good and the special rolls (Minami and Amako Masuri) were great and presented beautifully, we ended up ordering multiple of the amako masuri and a red dragon and they were all really good Of the regular rolls, we ordered the Philly and Hawaiian- these were pretty standard The green curry was very bland and if I blind tasted it I wouldn't be able to tell you that it was Thai food, i asked if they had any chili oil or anything to add some flavor (I'm not usually the one to make anything spicy at all but i don't think I would have finished it without adding anything) so the waitress brought out maybe a singular tablespoon of sriracha and then charged me for it it was fine it was only 50¢ but that seemed so broke to me. The mocktails we got were so pretty and handcrafted, the momo mojito tasted like something from bath and body works Staff was super nice and the food wasn't bad but I would definitely order more sushi than the Thai options bc the specialty rolls would have me come back
google avatar

Yelp
Akeno provides fresh sushi and Thai options, consistently delivering great taste and preparation. Although it's not at the top of my list for Thai restaurants, its unique features and excellent service make it a great choice. The drinks are always strong too! The restaurant's limited space is compensated by a second location in DC's Capitol Hill, and reservations are accepted at both locations. The service is fast and efficient, with a team of waiters and waitresses working together to minimize wait times. Akeno's standout features include its photo opportunities - both a backdrop at the front of the restaurant, cool themed bathrooms, and sushi presented on a wooden stair-like platter. I highly recommend their Red dragon roll, drunken noodles, ramen, and desserts, such as the Mango Cheesecake and Strawberry Mochi. Additionally, they offer a pretty dope happy hour! Check them out.

Yelp
This is my first time here and I'm glad I stopped by and tried this place. Everything we ordered was delicious. The sushi roll and nigiri are legit. Fish tasted fresh. Sushi rice is well-seasoned. Cocktails and mocktails are creative and delicious. Grilled squid is Thai style with spicy seafood sauce. We ate sooooo much! Fast and friendly service. The decor is cute and Instagram-able. We will definitely come back.

Yelp
The best sushi I've had in Nova. Our fam loves this place, so I was excited to finally have try it. The inside of the restaurant was very pretty! They had beautiful photo opportunities and the place had a great aesthetic. The service was attentive and kind. They're very quick at picking up plates once they're empty. I didn't order a drink, but everyone else's drinks were pretty. I could tell they put a lot of thought into presentation, especially with the details on the drinks and the unique folders for the sushi The sushi was delicious. Funny enough, my favorite roll was one that Rex ordered: the Crunchy Spicy Scallop Roll. I could've even eaten 10 of that roll. My next favorites were the sake toro and eel nigiri. Had a wonderful experience and will be back again when we're in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a take out order. I ordered the Dragon Roll and miso Soup and crunchy Spicy Roll with Salmon it was amazing again. I am sure it was packed in there always a great time with the amazing staff! Thanks again Akeno Sushi it was great. I will be back again!

Yelp
Food was good when it came out. Service was lacking. They either forgot about our table or didn't care to make things right. Our order wasn't taken right and it was clear a ticket was lost for some of our food as it took way longer than the table next to us that clearly getting service and attention. Really pretty location but won't be coming back.

Yelp
I first came here with my sons because we were going shopping next-door, and I didn't want burgers or subs. I am super happy we did! It was so good that I came back with my wife on date night. The interior is an interesting combination of traditional and modern, with some neon lights that show well because the interior is not flooded with lights. Some places make you feel like you are eating under spotlights, but not here. The music is definitely modern and representative of the genre of the restaurant, but it is not overwhelming. The service was excellent with a staff that is attentive but not hovering. They definitely knew the menu. Shout out to the owner, AJ, who have found a great staff. And the food is amazing. My favorite are the drunken noodles which melt in your mouth. With hot peppers in them, it has a nice kick to it as well. For the sushi, I recommend the crunchy crunchy roll, which has shrimp tempura, crab, cream cheese, and avocado. I'm usually ambivalent to cream cheese in sushi because so many places overdo it, but Akeno uses it just right so it's not overpowering. Finally for dessert, we had the fried banana with was simply delicious. I've been thinking about starting to Yelp again now that my kids are older and the restaurants, we go to are more varied. Akeno inspired me to actually start.

Yelp
Party of three on a Monday night. My wife, 11-year-old daughter, and me. Place is empty, as was acknowledged by our server when the first rolls for our daughter came out within minutes. The food is OK. Back to the review. My wife is gluten intolerant and this is easily the most unaccommodating sushi place we've ever been to. Everywhere else we simply ask how a particular roll can be made gluten free and it gets done. Not tonight. Couldn't substitute sauces. Too many things made ahead of time that can't be substituted even on a slow night. I watched someone come in for a pickup, two groups get seated, get their food, and leave before we got our complete meal. The last of which was a 12-piece sashimi--possibly the easiest thing to prepare on the menu. Ended up taking the rest to go. We will not be back. There are a million other sushi choices that accommodate dietary restrictions without hesitation. We'll be going to those places.

Yelp
About a 1-1.5: Not sure what happened, Akeno, but not a fan any more. We had a little get-together here for lunch, and we decided to sit outside. We ordered: +Crispy Chicken Wings - dressed in a sriracha sesame sauce +a nigiri and sashimi set +maki rolls Unfortunately, the fish was not fresh - the nigiri and the sashimi had almost a slimy texture to them with an off taste. The maki rolls were okay, but the rice was a little overcooked and the fillings were 'wet', making them mushy. Between the spicy salmon and the california rolls, the latter was better since it was imitation crab and avocado, rather than the unfresh salmon bits. The Crispy Wings were also forgettable, as the fried chicken wings seemed to be the frozen kind where they added some type of a sriracha concoction on top; these were just way too salty. On our previous visits, the dishes that we really used to enjoy didn't taste the same, such as the donburi and the Thai dishes; I think it's a consistency issue, or maybe they just serve less-than-stellar quality items during lunch? Service was almost non-existent, as we weren't checked upon, and there was difficulty in getting refills and the check. Plenty of parking in the shared plaza lot. +not-so-fresh nigiri and sashimi +lack of consistency in food quality +inattentive staff +plenty of parking in shared plaza lot

Yelp
When I see a restaurant with two different cuisines, I have a couple questions. Is the sushi going to be better here or the Thai options? How does a restaurant specialize in two cuisines of very different flavors? A group of us decided to get take out from Akeno for dinner this Friday evening, and I was feeling a lighter meal so I opted for the sushi side of the menu this time around. Everyone else picked an entree from the Thai menu, which was larger quantities of homier tasting comfort food. Sushi was a bit fancier for sure with less amount. SALMON LOVER - 20.95 This comes with a spicy crunchy salmon roll, two salmon nigiris, and two salmon sashimis. So ten bites and everything was gone. The salmon roll was pretty good with a good amount of tempura flakes that were still crispy by the time I got it. The sriracha mayo sauce was a nice touch, and it wasn't overwhelming. The salmon nigiri was good too, with a good salmon to rice ratio. The sushi rice also had a good consistency and taste. The salmon sashimi was pretty standard. Overall, solid quality and I was satisfied with the food, but the pricing is a bit steep. You'll definitely get more bang for your buck if you order one of the Thai entrees. But if you're willing to pay a bit for sushi, go for it.

Yelp
Decided to have Thai for dinner and gave this place a try. I am not a big sushi fan but I tried some that night and it was pretty good. I can't remember the name of it but it was something with salmon. As someone who is new to sushi, I would order that again. The atmosphere, food and service are enough for me to return and try more of their menu. The cocktails and hot saki complemented the meal perfectly! I look forward to returning!

Yelp
Got ramen, stickmeats, and the spicy tuna salad delivered. This was my first foray into ramen and it was only OK (but I'm more of Bun Bo Hue/Bun Rien fan). However, everything else was FANTASTIC! The chicken skewers were excellent, the beef (with that citrus oil glaze) was PHENOMENAL. And the tuna was outstanding as well.

Yelp
My oh my, where do I start! We've been dying to go to this place as we heard many good things about it from family members. Well, the hype was indeed REAL! The sushi was amazing and the ambiance and energy of the place was outstanding. I started off with a Matcha Sour and it set the tone for the entire night. I ordered the double salmon roll, crunchy spicy scallop roll, and some sashimi. Everything off the rip tasted so fresh, the fish was buttery, and the presentation of everything was impeccable. The crunchy spicy scallop roll had to have been one of my favorites the entire night. I could definitely rack up the bill with how good the sushi was. We will DEFINITELY come back as this is a staple for sushi now when we visit NOVA. Thank you, Akeno!

Yelp
Lol I forgot I already reviewed this, but my update still holds true. I've been again since then. Still cute and yummy. Stopped here for lunch with my sister while waiting on my car to be repaired. The interior is extremely cute (the wall art is nice and very instagram-able). I think portions could be a little more generous, but honestly the food was great. I also have celiac's disease, but the staff were very knowledgeable and able to make recommendations (and bring some GF soy sauce).

Yelp
A cozy restaurant located in a busy plaza with a few other food spots and a Lidl. Customer service is friendly and attentive. Our favorites were the grilled yellowtail collar, red dragon roll, beef yakitori and the sashimi testing. All the other sashimis we got were really fresh & perfect temperature for consuming, not too cold but not overly room temp. Great sushi spot if you're in the area

Yelp
Used to be my go to sushi spot until I ordered their Tom yum soup and there was a MAGGOT in it! Never again

Yelp
Overall a decent spot. Nothing was terrible, but it did leave more to be desired. I wanted to try this place as it was close to where I live and seemed like a good option. I go to a place in Old Town Alexandria that is quite good, but is about 20 minutes away. I tried a few of their appetizers and the nigiri selection. All were good. However, I've gotten the exact same order at the other place and found that not only was the food quality better, the price was also significantly cheaper for the same thing. While it's a good option for a quick fix, I recommend looking elsewhere for the same thing at a lower cost.

Yelp
A cute little place in a small shopping center. Plenty of parking. I ordered the Lavender Ginn Fizz which was pretty good. For our appetizers, we ordered the Tako-Wasabi and the Steamed Dumpling [kind of more like shiu mai] Both were delicious. For our entrees, we ordered the Chirashi and Akebo Roll. We also ended up ordering the Amako Masuri. All the food was delicious. We added some Tuna Tataki because we weren't really full. Overall a good place but may not be worth the quantity for the price. Service was ok.

Yelp
I have since returned to try more sushi. However I am reluctant to try the salmon skin roll that fell apart completely before. I like the nigiri. Some customers might think the nigiri are too small, but I don't like big slabs of raw fish nigiri. I think big slabs are more a Korean style sushi and not Japanese that make their sushi more delicate. Though the prices are high I like their sushi upon my return visits.

Yelp
The food here is really good. However, it did take a while for our food to get served to my party of three - granted it was a Saturday evening. We did check in with our server and ultimately did get our mains. Apps: We ordered edamame and takoyaki. Both good but nothing outstanding Mains: Dragon Roll, Double Shrimp Roll, Chirashi - All really good! Presentation is on point here, they line the sushi up on platforms and stair-like displays, very cute. Outdoor dining is nice when the weather is good but nothing too special. The seats felt pretty small and didn't quite fit the table (I am 5'0 and felt like the chairs were too small, my legs were scrunched up by the table.) I would eat inside, there's good vibes, lighting, fun decor which makes it enjoyable.

Yelp
This place is not only just for aesthetics! Firstly, they have a great cocktails and mocktails menu. I first visited during lunch and tried their mocktails and they were a great addition to the lunch. The sushi plate is presented so beautifully and you can tell there is effort and care into each piece. The salmon truffle appetizer was also very good! I tried some special rolls but I would say my favorite would be the Amako Masuri Special Roll! I also was able to try their thai food and found it to be very good as well! I would say this place does use a bit more fish sauce than other thai restaurants as the food had a strong smell. But that is not a complaint to me because I love fish sauce!! Their cocktails are also pretty solid! I like how each cocktail is very different and unique compared to other restaurants!

Yelp
Just left and I can't wait to come back during happy hour! My girls and I came here because we were looking for a last minute sushi spot to settle our Saturday night craving and Akeno did not disappoint! We decided to sit at the bar and start with a round of Akeno Tini's and it was delicious. We literally watched the bartender cut fresh flowers to garnish our drinks, how awesome was that little touch! We then tried various items off the menu; the eel roll (6pc) 10/10, the crunchy crunchy 10/10, the red dragon 10/10, gyoza 9/10, yellow tail jalapeno 10/10, and the chicken teriyaki 8/10 (they wouldn't let us sub fried rice instead of steamed rice). Overall the presentation of the drinks and sushi was awesome! The ambiance and decor was perfect, small yet very cute! I can't wait to return! #JassyJEats Approved!

Yelp
Akeno is my new go-to for sushi and Thai food in northern Virginia. It is nicely decorated inside. The staff is quick and efficient. But best of all, the food is just delicious. I loved everything I ate here (shared 3 sushi rolls and pad thai) and I still dream about the baked salmon roll. I also appreciated that they were generous with their portions; you really feel like you're getting your money's worth there.

Yelp
The rolls were one of some of the best I have had in the area. Apps were very nice as well. Their signature salad I would eat daily. Great sushi spot.
