Such a gem! The space is SUPER tiny and no-frills; probably 12 seats or fewer. But the sushi is incredible and fresh, and well-priced. If you’re looking for good, simple, casual sushi — this is the place! In addition to the small dining room (make a reservation) they offer takeout.

A very small place but the food! The Double Star Sushi roll is so worth it. And get the muchi for dessert. So pretty!!!! Get it with rice paper instead of seaweed paper. We got an appetizer, 4 sushi rolls. A bottle of sake and muchi !

Omakase was ok, but not worth the price at $200pp. The soup was too salty and tobiko on everything was unnecessary. Also lacking in actual SUSHI with mainly courses of side dishes. The fish that was served tasted fresh though. Overall a disappointing experience especially when I am looking expecting omakase sushi not a knockoff kaiseki.

Seriously the best Sashimi and Sushi I had recently. Came in, customized my order even off of the menu and great forthcoming service. Just the best. Thanks for having me

We had our lunch here. Tasty fresh sushi nigiri, you can also choose from a variety of Japanese fish. Good seafood udon and Japanese seafood salad. Very friendly staff. Wish they had more space. Highly recommended. There is a parking garage next to it. No high chairs so will be hard for families with kids younger than 3yo (due to limited space it will be hard to fit strollers). Keep in mind when planning your dine in.

Adorable, intimate, family owned sushi place 🍣 The sushi was top-notch. The servers are attentive and kind. Really enjoyed my experience. If you're in San Francisco, find time for this place.

Their omakase is a spiritual experience. The best quality fish I've ever had. In a city that contains some of the best restaurants in the country, if not the world, this is a hidden gem just a short walk from Union Square. Come hungry.

Absolutely phenomenal sushi at a really cute hole in the wall spot. All the fish was super fresh and flavorful. In addition to the sushi, I highly recommend the seafood salad.

Small place, but not very cozy. Not ergonomic Sushi was standard. Standard rolls. High prices for what you actually get. Not Japanese operated, the cooked dishes were basically Chinese food. I would have been happier eating pre-made stuff from Nijiya, and would have saved money doing that.

Well, things have changed. The chicken teriyaki used to be scrumptious, but now the sauce is no longer available or at least I thought so. I tried ordering extra sauce but all I got was dry chicken. My mason street roll had under cooked rice as well.

Almost comically small, there isn't much room inside, but the food is incredible and more than worth the wait for a seat. Managed to get in just early enough to be the only ones in the place, which was quickly filled before we left, and there seemed to be a steady stream to go order headed out the door. The limited seating clearly doesn't discourage those who appreciate good food, and I don't blame them. Every aspect of their sushi was impressively goodz from rice, to the quality of the pickled ginger, so (most importantly) the fish itself. I am also happy to report that their Japanese beer selection is both solid and well priced, which is a big plus for me. I do enjoy sake, but prefer a good, clean finishing beer with my sushi. Highly recommend this small, but mighty spot!

Delicious! Great sushi in a family owned intimate restaurant. This is the place you go to appreciate the taste of each dish. Not the place if you're looking for a livelier louder atmosphere. I ordered the omakase so chefs choice, but each dish was unique and the service was amazing. The omakase can be expensive so you'll wanna keep that in mind. Will absolutely come back to try their a la carte options

the sushi was fresh, beautifully prepared and just plain awesome tasting. The restaurant is small and cramped and capacity is approx 15. DONT go here if you're claustrophobic. DO go here if you want high quality,fresh sushi. The servers were extremely kind and friendly. no question that the prices are on the higher side but you get what you pay for. 100 % enjoyed every bite. Will come back here next time in SF.

Such a great hole in the wall joint! Located on a very unassuming street in fidi, Akiko's only seats about 15-20 at a time. The inside is a bit cramped, needing to squeeze past 2 tables to get through the front door. Once you're inside, you see the charm of the place. It's intimate, and a bit like stepping into a tiny corner of Japan. Service is incredible; the wait staff are beyond kind. Selection of rolls is not as large as on some other menus, but fish is fresh and the presentation is a delight.

Holy cow. When I ordered omakase I was not prepared for the volume of food! 15 courses of food and I was stuffed! It came with a price tag to match: $170 plus $8 for a small Sapporo plus tip and taxes came to $241. Everything was absolutely delicious. This is a great spot to eat solo. It's tiny with only 15 seats. Staff was very friendly and quickly brought out each course. The only thing that wasn't good was the chestnut cake. I just didn't like it. But maybe ask what the market rate on omakase is before you order...

I had high expectations for this place but sadly, I was really disappointed. The fish wasn't fresh by any means and honestly, just didn't taste good. I gave a 2 stars because the service was fine, they did a good job but the food was so disappointing. Honestly, all of the fish tasted the same as the next one. Won't be coming back :/

This place looked promising as it was busy during lunch time, although it's a tiny restaurant (5 tables or so with a small sushi bar). This place had no lunch special so I just ordered the 12 piece nigiri set. Of course they tried to up sell me for the more expensive but I opted not to. The sushi was fine, but tiny for the amount that you pay. Moreover, it didn't really blow me away. 3 of the 12 pieces were cooked shrimp, spicy tuna and spicy salmon. Overall, I wouldn't come back.

We really enjoyed this tiny sushi restaurant in San Francisco. Recommended by a friend in SF and it didn't disappoint. The fish was super fresh and delicious. Try the Toro if they have it on special. It was like butter. We are so glad we went and the staff and Chef were the friendliest and most helpful ever. Thank you. Highly recommended!!!

My coworkers and I stopped by this little sushi bar because it was on the way to our next destination in the city. We ordered several rolls, nigiri, and edamame as a party of 4. Overall, the rolls are overpriced for what they are, and taste just okay. Nothing special - we picked this spot to eat at because none of us had been here and we wanted to eat somewhere close by. We got a Caterpillar Roll, which was probably everyone's favorite roll, and a spicy scallop which was not spicy at all. They forgot the spice! Also it was not just scallop but also had mostly salmon on top. More rice than fillings. Pardon the pictures - my friends had dug in before I could take a picture! One of the servers made some rude disapproving faces at us when we were ordering (I'm guessing she thought we were just drunkards from Santa Con? Fact check - we were not, but maybe she made the faces because I told her we'll share 3 rolls and a nigiri sampler among 4 of us because we weren't very hungry and she thought it was cheap of us? I have no idea). She gave us some attitude and whispering in the back / faces until I pulled out my LumeCube to take pictures of the food when it arrived. Suddenly service was all back to normal. My friends and I didn't like that at all. Because of the service, the food tasted probably even worse than it actually did. I wouldn't come back here to eat and would only do so if it were the only sushi restaurant in the entire city left. Super mid sushi at not worthwhile price tags with attitude too.

The rolls were fresh and tasted great. The price was in the higher side and higher than places of the same caliber so I would probably not go again. It's a nice quaint hole in the wall but it was a little small for the group we had (7 people). The service was nice, but I often felt like they were trying to sell extra or more expensive items to us when we already knew what we wanted.

My new FAV sushi place in SF. So fresh! So tiny, but so yummy. The Suzuki nigiri and the salmon skin hand roll will make you weep! Sooooo good!

Super small, casual place. The service was good. It was fast and polite. The nigiri was good, but the sushi rolls were pretty small and did not have a lot of fish. We also got a beef udon which I really liked. The beef chunks and veggies were good. Overall I thought it was pretty expensive for not that much fish. I think this place is good for udon, but I would skip the sushi rolls.

Very small and intimate hole in the wall with great fish options. It was a little pricey -- special doll ran me about 24$ and the udon was 15$, but it was a well done meal. Definitely worth a try if you want some sushi in a pinch.

We were in town for the Warriors game and decided to eat at this spot since it was nearby our hotel and they had open seating available. Herman, the owner, was soft spoken yet polite and attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant was tiny and reminded me of Japan, which I like when I need a nice and quiet meal. The food was surprisingly fresh!!! We loved everything we ordered from the otoro to the uni. The carpaccio was so yummy too! Definitely come here and help support Herman and his crew!

I love these small, hole in the wall places that does the basics really well. They had a nice selection of really good quality fish prepared perfectly. A solid selection of good quality sake on the menu and fairly priced. The service was excellent but be aware that it's a tiny place and I can imagine a long wait if it's crowded. Luckily we were able to walk in since there was an open table next to the door. Probably not the place if you're with a large party.

Wonderful experience! So wonderful, we went two nights in a row! A small, cozy place with friendly owners. The sushi was delicious, fresh, and served quickly. We were so happy to find this restaurant during our trip and will be back next time we are in San Francisco!

Great service, great food. It was a little tight in terms of space but was with my friends in rush to a show and were able to get a quick sushi fix!

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! I got the 12 piece nigiri and after making sure (many times) that there is no wasabi on the plate or in the sushi due to an allergy, from the first bite I could tell there was wasabi in the sushi. I had my friend double check and he confirmed. I let the restaurant know and they gas lit me and told me there is no wasabi in the sushi. I wasn't able to finish the sushi at all and it was just an all around terrible experience.

It was a little bit expensive the Uber eats pickup price, but WOW was it good quality. I had the 49ers roll and it tasted SO good.

Probably one of the better sushi restaurants that I've visited in SF. The salmon sashimi yellowtail roll, and nigiri platter were fresh and delicious, but the unagi donburi and toro special rolls were easily my favorite. I didn't care much for the philadelphia roll (and I would never order that myself), but someone in our party did want it. (this review is over a year old and I am seeing bad reviews now. I hope their quality hasn't been affected by the pandemic, but they were good to me)

Went to this spot with colleagues after a conference on a Tuesday night. We got there early - thankfully! A 5:30pm arrival was the only way we would get a table for 5 in this tiny spot. The restaurant is small but charming - like walking into a family-owned neighborhood secret. The service was incredibly fast, bringing out melt-in-your-mouth dish after dish. From the eggplant on the appetizer menu (I don't usually like eggplant but this was amazingly tender and perfectly sweet!), to the sashimi and sushi. Every one of us gushed about our meal. The server - who I can only guess is one of the owners - was kind, efficient and checked in at just the right times. We were all so happy to have stumbled upon this little gem! Just two blocks from the Marriott Union Square....a perfect find for weary travelers!

I came here for lunch on a Tuesday late afternoon before 3pm. It was a tiny place with one sushi chef, one waiter, and one back worker but don't let the size fool you. I ordered a sake don, comes with miso soup and salads. The salmon was super fresh. The rice was chewy yet soft and the salads had the vinegar taste to it. It was a big bowl and I finished it all. I love the presentation of this sake bowl and highly recommend this sushi place. Also they were delivering fresh fishes while I was eating and I absolutely love it.

Stumbled upon this spot on a Thursday afternoon around Union square while trying to find somewhere to eat before watching a play. We were on a time crunch so we walked into this small sushi bar and grabbed a table. It's very tiny inside; there's 1 sushi chef and about 2 servers that go in between hallways because of how small it is. It sounded like lots of people had reservations while being seated but we didn't. We started with a hot sake and some green tea. We ordered seaweed salad, a couple of nigiris, the chefs special roll, another chefs pair with a roll and some nigiris, and the hamachi Kama (fried yellowtail). The nigiris and rolls came out quickly and the hamachi Kama came out last. I really enjoyed the chefs special roll which was like salmon belly and some other stuff but it was really good. Fairly quick service, good service, quality sushi, and our meal was a little pricey for 2 people but overall really good!

Wow! I l work nearby and never knew this place was there! So unassuming and some of the BEST sushi I have had in a long while. I will definitely be returning as a habit when I am in town for work. AMAZING!

The food was amazing, although expensive for the portions. Service was impeccable, but we were the only party. But when I hit 20% for tip under the watchful eye of the server, I later learned that the tip was based on the total bill after taxes and fees. That is a sham, a scam, dishonest, and unethical. The restauranteur made this decision when programming the terminal - they had the option to set the tip based on alcohol/food alone. Granted it's only a few extra dollars on a $150 bill for two, but it's the principle. This is not an oversight, it's a choice the owner made to gouge the patron. For that reason, I give it two stars and I'll never return. Otherwise, I'd give it a 5 stars for the food quality, If the manager/owner is making unethical decisions against their customer for a few extra $$, I wonder what other ethical shortcuts they are making regarding food safety.

Went there yesterday with my friend and today she's got food poisoning and my stomach also feels uncomfortable. The price was really steep for so-so food.

The waitress really attentive and food really good. I was hesitant at first but am so glad we gave this a try. We had the omakase and it did not disappoint. The fish was so fresh we were even impressed with the clam miso soup. It's a small place but highly recommend coming here for a group size less than 4.

JUST COME HERE, Best sushi in California. Came with no intentions and found it to be incredibly tasty!

We stayed around the corner and we decided we wanted sushi for dinner. So glad we chose this spot! Very tiny and cute inside. Reminded us both of a spot back home. Three tables inside and we were the only one but take out orders were coming in like crazy. We had the sashimi platter, chefs special roll, mason street roll, swamp roll and the spicy tuna maki roll. Holy everything was amazing. I could have eaten three of the mason street roll by myself- it was THAT good. Sweetest server and great chef. Friendly and attentive. Might have been the owners- we assumed they were. Great spot and a definite recommendation for awesome fresh, delicious sushi.

The staff was very friendly and the food was good. However, the price was outrageous. We ordered a dragon roll, unagi, and cucumber salad. Also, one glass of wine. The total with tip $83! The dragon roll was half the size of other sushi restaurants and the unagi was sliced paper thin. The cucumber salad had a few shreds of "crab" . For the price they could have been a little more generous with the portions.

The best meal i have ever eaten. if you are in san francisco and want the best sushi the entire world outside of japan has to offer, hit it. you will deeply regret not going here. if you go, you will be rewarded.

Very small place, just 1 Sushi chef and 1 server + 1 kitchen staff. It was full around 15 customers at 6:00pm. This place is too small for comfortably fitting 15 people. And long wait to be served, server is just too busy running, serving foods and cleaning the tables at same time. Fish are fresh, sliced and prepared fairly well; too expensive for the quantity and variety of fishes also poor plating as you can see. Recommend not to order this combination plate; you don't know what you will be getting and can't tell you are getting money worth. Order Nigiri what your know and sashimi separately. And go there earlier or make a reservation; otherwise you have to wait outside cold for a long time even before getting your foods.

I walked in by myself for dinner and was underwhelmed by the quality of sushi vs the price. Ambience: hole in the wall, small restaurant, maybe 15 seatings tops. Felt pretty clean for a smaller restaurant. 5 seatings at the front. Food: ordered 12 piece nigiri (believe $45) with assortment through tuna, salmon, etc. The chef tries to be creative with different seasonings or toppings on top. However, the rice was not cooked properly, too watery, and more importantly the fish was not fresh. Even though $45 for 12 pieces is not a bad price (more of a value within San Francisco), if I knew quality of fish was going to be subpar, I would have rather gotten a roll which I do not have to taste it so apparently as much or paid lower prices for even more value sushi. After a glass of sake, the 12 piece nigiri and tip, meal for one person ended up costing $70+. Maybe this is the reality of San Francisco prices but I was disappointed with the quality of food I received compared to the price (not low!) I paid.

Such a wonderful hole in the wall. Sushi is about the love of the fish and the preparation. Luckily I was on my company expense account that night. :). It was not cheap, but delish!

Exquisite ultra-fresh sushi in this small San Francisco. Service is wonderful. I have had some truly delicious sushi but this may well be the very best. It was so delicate and fresh, it seemed to have just been brought out of the water. Definitely best of the best!
