We frequently order the Akira ramen, accompanied by a couple of sushi rolls. Our top picks are the Volcano roll and the Chicken Tempura roll, the latter offering incredible value at just $8. The karaage and gyoza are also standout dishes that we highly recommend. The service at Akira Ramen is always friendly and fast, enhancing the overall dining experience. First off, I will say, I ordered from here via Uber Eats. The meal and deals did not disappoint. Items were nicely packaged too. We ordered: Dumpling which were buy one get one free: delicious! Spicy tuna roll: BOGOF: yum Yellowtail jalapeño roll: BOGOF: yum Edamame: BOGOF: they were good, not too salty. Anddd we got miso soup. Not buy one get one free but delicious. Would definitely ordered here again or check out the restaurant! I'd love to try the ramen!

Cute Japanese place, I like the cozy atmosphere without feeling cramped. Been here a couple of times and even had catering in request. Service was great! I'm not big into ramen, but seemed on point and soup was good. Okonomiyaki was flavorful. Sushi was fresh and solid. Overall great experiences!

Fabulous sushi! Love the miso soup, spicy tuna role, and yellow tail Jalapeño sushi. Top it all off with pork dumplings and snap peas, and you got yourselves a wonderful dinner. I would highly recommend it! Check out Uber eats for buy one, get one free special!

I just moved to neighborhood and stopped in to get a quick dinner with my friend. We ordered two different ramens and were both equally impressed. The service was very excellent and very quick. It's a smaller restaurant but it was quiet and didn't feel cramped at all. I highly recommend the volcano ramen if you like spicy foods, and my friend said the karage ramen was absolutely amazing! For the price, the quality is unbelievable, we will definitely be back!

Doesn't seem like much walking by, but this place has some great ramen and sushi and the staff are always very friendly with great service. Every time I come here I seem to forget just how good it is. My only complaint is that the ambiance is a little meh, but the food more than makes up for it! Pro Tip: Get the tonkotsu shoyu and an Orion or Kirin beer to wash it down.

First meal of the day and I'm glad I waited...I ordered the spicy Akira with curly noodles and an extra egg and praise be they remembered the extra egg on an Uber eats order- a lot of times when I order ramen they don't add the xtra! Stopped by while I was in the area. Unassuming little shop. Walked in at open and got a bowl of ramen. Service was good and the food came out quickly. The broth was rich and well-made and the pork was cooked just right. No complaints on the quantity, good noodles and toppings. Overall good spot, apart from the homeless people that might yell at you from across the street. Check it out

The Akira Ramen was such great quality and we got our pre-going-out meal in a timely manner for a great price given the location. The vibes of the restaurant were great, and we were also given free green tea mochi right before closing which was so kind of the staff!

The food is solid. Ambient is fine but a bit bright. Service is on point as well. Got the volcano ramen and it is good, perfect textured ramen for me. The broth is also solid. Easy recommendation The agedasahi tofu is really good. Need to eat quick to avoid soggy.

First time here and it won't be my last! As someone with a sesame allergy I get very worried about going to Japanese restaurants but really wanted to go here after hearing great things. I called ahead of time to let them know about my allergy and they were so kind and assured me immediately they could accommodate. Upon arriving they were so kind. The restaurant was clean, fun music, and kind people! We went on a Friday night at 6:30 and we were the second people there. The place didn't fill up until about 7:30. When ordering I mentioned my allergy again and they took all the precautions necessary to accommodate. The sushi was so so fresh and delicious. My friend got the ramen and LOVED it. So excited to have found this gem and will be back soon!

I visited during a semi-busy Saturday night. The wait wasn't bad and my friends and I (3 of us) were seated within 30 mins. Service was quick and efficient. They were also very nice and answered all of our questions. Prices were fair for ramen (and quite standard for DC--not too expensive but not budget). I ordered the Akira Volcano ramen, one of my friends ordered the Vegetarian ramen, and my other friend ordered the Tantanmen. Portions were fairly sized and they didn't skimp on the toppings. The noodles had great texture and great bite to them. The broth was ok--tonkotsu flavor was there, temperature was hot but palatable, and their egg was nicely softboiled. Chasu was a subpar in my opinion, as it was a bit tough.

Meh... dirty cups and crumby seating. Very quick service but poor quality food. It hits the spot and is relatively cheap for DC. I wouldn't come back. The broth is overly salty and not rich/creamy. The pork was tasty but likely microwaved.

This is probably my first time in AdMo since 2019 since it's pretty far from where I live. I'm glad my friends and I chose to eat dinner at Akira this past Saturday given there's so many options in the area. I had no idea that it's a local chain in MD but happy to see that it has expanded to DC as well. Our service was nice and helpful and the food came out shortly after. AKIRA RAMEN - 15 The portion size is generous for how much the ramen costs. The bowl was plentiful with a variety of different toppings. I feel like most ramen shops only give you the bare minimum for tonkotsu nowadays: chashu, scallions, sesame seeds and half an onsen egg (maybe). And then if you want other toppings, you'd have to pay +1 or +2 for a small amount of bamboo shoots or something. The wood ear mushrooms, corn and beansprouts gave each bite a nice crunch. The pork bits threw me off a bit, but still tasty. LOTS AND LOTS OF SCALLIONS, which was amazing! I love that they don't skimp out here. The chashu pieces (three of them) were thin and pretty good. I would have preferred slightly thicker chashu. I also wish there was a bit more broth in the ramen because it was hard to dig around the bowl for soup while there was so many solids in the bowl. The broth was creamy and flavorful, with good amount of pork bone flavor and enhanced nicely with the black garlic oil. Overall, this was a fantastic choice and I'd recommend giving this ramen a try. TORO NIGIRI (1 PC.) - 6 Kind of expensive, but it is toro. However, there was no "melt-in-your-mouth-like-butter" feeling and felt like eating a slightly fattier version of tuna. I didn't feel like the fish was too fresh. Not a fan and would not recommend. I can't speak for other sushi, but if it's similar to the toro nigiri I had (which was pretty mid and overpriced), I would recommend not getting the sushi options and just stick to the ramen or other appetizers. Akira Ramen is definitely my second favorite ramen shop in DC, so if you're in the area and craving ramen, definitely give this restaurant a chance.

Stumbled upon this place a few weeks ago in DC when the weather started turning and had ramen. Service was good and quick, it was a busy place in Adams Morgan and folks looked like they came in regularly - always a good thing. The food was pretty decent , I have no complaints save the fact that there was a limited selection of wine and beer and that's actually not a big deal. The sushi roll we had and the ramen filled us up nicely and we were satisfied.

I wanted to like this place since I love ramen, but it fell short. I ordered the Akira ramen bowl to be delivered to my apartment, and I think they can better prepare their ramen for delivery. They do keep the soup and ramen separate, but the ramen is fully cooked, so by the time you put it in the hot broth, it feels soggy and the texture isn't quite right. In comparison, Daikaya and Bantam King deliver their ramen par cooked, so that it finishes cooking and has the perfect chewy texture when you put it in the hot broth. In terms of flavor, the broth was just ok - nothing fantastic. I had to add some soy sauce and Sriracha sauce to make it better. I may try Akira Ramen again in the future, but if I do, it will be in person and not via delivery.

I wanted to eat okonomiyaki as I loved it in Japan and saw they serve okonomiyaki so I had to stop by and it was so good! Their sushi were good too. A cute restaurant. Workers were very nice. Will be back again!

Super super good! I came here on a whim after checking out the nearby bookstore and it was so delicious. The ramen was so good and they have lots of other options too (sushi, hand rolls, bento boxes, rice bowls). The service was really attentive and kind, and the vibes are just so cozy. Definitely recommend !!!

I'm a fan of this cozy place! Didn't have a reservation but was able to get a table for 3 on a Saturday for lunch. Very affordable lunch specials (rolls, bento boxes, donburi bowls, etc). Lots of ramen offerings in generously large bowls. Didn't see many alcohol offerings other than a handful of beers and sake, but maybe there's a bigger menu for dinner. Would definitely return.

Fast service, good food, good prices! We had lunch right when they opened on a Sunday. We shared three dishes and I also had a wonderful cup of green tea. The highlight was the Okonomiyaki Japanese pancake which was amazingly tasty! I loved the seaweed salad with sesame dressing too, the ramen was a generous portion with lots of fillings. The menu is huge so we'll be back to try more items.

Great spot! The ramen is good quality and well packaged for takeout or to eat in the comfortable restaurant. I haven't tried too many other menu items, but there is great variety!

I recently ordered from this place a month ago after receiving a brochure in the mail (who knew mail marketing still worked?). It advertised 10% off so I decided to try it. I've ordered takeout twice since then and really enjoy their sushi and service (everyone is so friendly). I definitely recommend and this will now be one of my go to sushi places for takeout.

Very cozy indoor ambience. This is my first time in DC. I just happened to pick this place simply I was there at the right time with the right weather. How can anyone resist a bowl of ramen in the cold? I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the tonkotsu ramen. The broth is rich, but not too heavy to the point it's overwhelming. They had a generous portion of chashu (most of the other ramen restaurants I've been to are definitely more stingy on the meat). I finished my entire bowl leaving satisfied. If you want a quick ramen craving at an affordable price, this place is it (most of the ramen are on average $15).

Overcooked mushy rice and low quality proteins. I called and I ordered the 3 roll lunch special takeout for $17. The lovely lady on the phone had my order ready in under 10min. When I got home I was disappointed by the look and taste of the rolls. Low quality and poorly cut fish. The rice was wet and gross. I don't think I will be coming back. *Only giving this place 2 stars because I've eaten here before and it was never this bad

I had eaten ramen from all over Japan, to NYC, to CA, but this place was the worst ramen I had in decades. Way to salty that I could finish it but the worst part was that it wasn't served hot. That is just not acceptable in Ramen. I had 3 bites and left the restaurant. It's too bad since ramen actually looked good from the pictures I seen from other reviews. I also feel bad for those people who gave good reviews here. You guys should try Pho if you live in DC area instead.

Food was okay. Smaller space and great for 2-4 people. The service was goid, but the food was average.

Ordered the volcano ramen, everything was ok, not bad, not good. Convenient location, friendly staff. With tax and tips, one bowl of ramen worked out to be almost $25. You decide if the value is there but if you are really craving ramen at that moment, it kind of scratches the itch but not something I would go out of my way to experience.

This was a pleasant surprise in the neighborhood! Unassuming front with decent seating inside- don't miss their lunch does jams! You can really score on huge portions during the lunch hour. I was really pleased with the flavor and portion size of their ramen- at less than some bigger name competitors in the area. The sushi rolls were good quality as well. Will certainly be back.

My husband becoming a ramen lover has been my favorite thing this fall. So I knew when we went to DC that Akira is where we were going for dinner. The reviews have been great and they weren't lying. We were immediately sat and brought water which was great after our long walk around the park, after dark.. oops let me get back to the food. We ordered the red dragon roll which was shrimp tempura, avocado and topped with tuna. DELISH, fresh and flavorful. The shrimp was so flaky and crunchy. I ordered the shrimp tempura ramen and made it spicy and my husband got the spicy volcano, as it was highly recommended. When we started, we didn't speak again until we were nearly done. The shrimp tempura ramen came with wavy noodles and two HUGE shrimp on the side with fried veggies which I've never had. It also came with a dipping sauce which was light. Ooo one thing I almost forgot, the music was great- R&B and hip hop played at a low but good volume. Definitely going back when we're in DC next and would recommend.

The first time I went to this place, we picked up an order and lets just say it was not to our liking and being that is one of my girlfriends favorite restuarants, we were very disappointed and called the manager. They refunded our order and the next time we came back, they made it right! On top of their spectacular costumer service, they had some of the best sushi I've ever had (if you're a seafood fanatic like me you'd love their lobster roll). Im not that big of a ramen guy, but their volcano ramen was pretty decent. The place can get busy and service can be slow since there is only 1-2 servers for the entire restuarant & the ambiance somewhat decent, but all in all their costumer service and sushi are unmatched. 10 out of 10.

A very good Japanese restaurant that I recommend if you're in the area. We ordered the volcano roll, spicy tuna, yellowtail and karaage. Everything tasted fresh and was the perfect lunch for my boyfriend and I. One thing I really appreciated about this place was that they had a decent sushi selection, as well as ramen/noodles as well as appetizers. It's a great place for snacking on a few different items while you figure out what you enjoyed the most. I will say that I would absolutely come back here to try their noodles, specifically the cold dipping noodles, which is one of my Japanese dishes.

My review is based on the smell of the restaurant. It smells like cleaning fluid in a hospital bathroom. I heard great things about the food, and would give it a chance for pick up .... however I just walked out. Please address this.

The food was great. I ordered grilled chicken ramen and salmon skewers. Everything was well seasoned and fresh. The service was pretty quick, but I went during a sweet spot between peak lunch and dinner time. The ambience felt okay too. They have pretty nice decor and it has a big open dining area. I'd definitely come back when I'm in the mood for ramen. Please keep the prices the same! I appreciate the affordability so much!

Yesterday Dec 28th 2023 near closing time, we went there with a group of 10. Since it was near closing time, the kitchen crew were trying to clean but the ammonia smell was all over in dinning area, very foul. The waiter was nice and deducted 10% but some of us also got food poisoning today, not an experience we want to have again.

Good place for ramen takeout! The food was still warm by the time we got home and the set up (broth in the bowl and ingredients packaged separately for you to add) kept everything from getting soggy. We got the akira ramen and the vegetable ramen - the akira was a classic pork broth ramen that came with an egg (yay!) and the vegetable is a classic vegetarian bowl. This is my new "budget" option for ramen in DC. I would say some of the other places have ramen that is richer in flavor, but it is about $5 less here (the basic bowl price is cheaper and they come with the egg which other places charge me to add in).

I stumbled upon this place on a hungry afternoon. I was helped immediately upon entry. I asked how spicy the volcano ramen was & the server was happy to help - it's probably a 5/10 on spice level. She was quick to offer more spicy additions & i really appreciated that. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the broth was well rounded. The pork was seared for extra some extra smokey flavor. All in all, chef's kiss.

Pretty good dish in for the city. Have always passed it when I get cookies down the street so figures id try it out. Can Friday around 1pm and it wasn't too busy. Employees were nice and food tasted very fresh the karaage was ok. I was addicted to it when I was in Japan so this was a decent surprise because not many Japanese places I go to have it. The salmon roll was fresh and the fish to rice ratio was pretty good. My yellowtail/whatever the roll turned out to be was really good. I just never had yellowtail served that way.

The food was fantastic! Sushi, Bento box, Ramen were so good. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal. The staff were very attentive and provided excellent service. Very clean restaurant with beautiful decor. Highly recommend. Bring your appetite (generous portions)

Returned twice since the first review since this is the closest ramen place to us, and the soup is not salty anymore, and the noodles and egg remain great. Since I still didn't like the meat here that much, I ordered shrimp tempura, but that tempura was just okay too. The takoyaki was very delicious though, so I'll definitely be coming back for that. Great customer service! It is cheaper to order over the phone than on Yelp or their online service - no wonder I initially thought it was pricey - ordering on Yelp was adding nearly $3 to each bowl of ramen.

I spent a few hours in the area and was searching for a warm and light bowl of ramen. The vegetable ramen caught my eye and I'm glad it did. The broth was flavorful and it was elevated by the spices I added. The curly noodles were so nourishing and chewy. This is one of the best vegetable ramens I've had. The vegetable roll was a great addition to our meal. The service was quick and incredibly friendly. I left feeling warm and satisfied.

This place was small but packed a WALLOP!! I ducked in here to work a bit after my nail appointment and decided to order lunch. I started out with a simple Spicy Salmon Roll. So good and refreshing! I wished i had ordered more but wanted to save room for the popular Spicy Akira Volcano Ramen!! Sooo good! Service was great as well! I will be returning!

Seriously amazing. My partner and I were wandering around seeing as we're new to d.c, and I stumbled upon it. Amazing ramen and rolls. My partner said maybe the best sushi he's ever had.
