"A unique and special experience in which the chef does the cooking next to your table or at the wood-fired grill in front of you while you are seated at the counter. In addition, there’s also a bakery at the front of the establishment offering delicacies baked in ovens distributed around the room, that dispense their enticing aromas to add to the sensorial experience. Renowned chefs Giannis Loukakis and Spiros Pediaditakis run this small space in the charming Pangrati district of the city, where the young and relaxed vibe provides the backdrop for uncomplicated cuisine that is nevertheless full of personality and prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients. The menu is refreshed every day, with dishes superbly cooked in the wood-fired oven taking centre stage." - Michelin Inspector

AKRA A Home Dining Experience in Athens During my week in Athens, I had the pleasure of catching up with childhood friends, including Eleni Best, who highly recommended AKRA for lunch. A reservation is a must, this place is a favorite among both locals and visitors. Ambiance & Setup AKRA offers a unique open-kitchen dining experience, making you feel like you’re part of the action. Upon entering, you pass the bakery corner where fresh bread is baked, followed by the cold and hot stations, and finally, the grill and fire oven. The seating consists of small marble tables with cozy school chairs, and upstairs, you’ll find the pastry kitchen at work. The most intriguing spot? The bar seating by the grill, where you can enjoy a bottle of wine while soaking in the sounds of crackling fire, sizzling food, and lively Greek music, nothing like the usual restaurant playlist. Service Maria, our server, was exceptional. She welcomed us warmly, took our order promptly, and ensured a smooth dining experience despite the restaurant being full. When I was about to over-order, she advised against it, a rare and refreshing sign of genuine hospitality. The Food Each dish reflected authentic, homemade Greek flavors. Appetizers: Fresh Bread with Virgin Olive Oil 🥖 Marinated Mussels, White Fish Roe Cream Wild Greens, Olive Oil & Lemon Sauce 🥦 Mains: Chickpeas & Spinach Soup 🥦 Stuffed Cabbage Leaves with Shrimp & Egg-Lemon Sauce 🦐 Black Pork & Onion Stew Dessert: Meringue with Lemon Sorbet 🍋 Final Thoughts AKRA is a must visit if you’re in Athens and craving authentic, home-style Greek cuisine. The thoughtful service, vibrant ambiance, and outstanding flavors make it an experience worth savoring.

This place is a difficult one for me to judge properly. The good: superb service, nice open kitchen concept, excellent deserts. The subpar: mains are all pretty average despite a more upmarket price point and an average wine list. So on the balance, come for the deserts and avoid the mains.

Akra is a place I keep coming back to, and for good reason. Tucked into one of my favourite neighbourhoods in Athens, it serves seasonal, flavour-packed dishes made with care and precision. The ingredients are always fresh and thoughtfully chosen, and the food is cooked in an open kitchen, which adds a sense of connection to the whole experience. Every dish I’ve tried has been beautifully presented and full of character, with a focus on balance, texture, and clean flavours. The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined, and the team clearly takes pride in what they do. There’s also a well-curated list of local wines, including some excellent bottles from boutique Greek producers; a perfect complement to the menu. I’ve been several times since last year, and it never disappoints. If you’re looking for a place in Athens that’s modern but grounded in real cooking, Akra is absolutely worth a visit.

Beautiful place, cozy environment. You can call it casual-chic. The service was excellent and so nice to see most of the staff preparing dishes or desserts-open kitchen literally. The sourdough bread amazing. Gida with spaghetti more than enough for two persons and nice wine. Quite interesting menu, we will definitely try it again for brunch or lunch. The prices a bit high, could be lower, but highly recommended.

We have been there for a breakfast. Ordered fried eggs, you can see all the preparing phases. Its like an experiment in a kitchen. So clean so neat.

We came with great expectations but were disappointed. The place looks very pleasant and promising. The food wasn’t to our liking - too much effort and strong flavors. Especially we didn’t like the main dish. The deserts were delicious though.

A restaurant that is well worth its Michelin bib gourmand award. Value is the name of the game here; the portions are huge in most cases. This is also the reason why the staff recommends not to order too much. 2 appetisers and 2 main courses are more than enough for 2 persons. Taste wise, I wasn’t satisfied with all of the dishes (the dish of the day was rather tasteless). Anything even resembling a soup will be unforgettable and I would highly recommend ordering it. We tried the grilled scorpionfish which was not something out of the ordinary taste wise. It was rather bland. The soup however was one of the best soups I’ve ever tasted! The concept of the ovens being at the sides and all the tables in the middle (hence the name “Akra”) creates an amazing, one of a kind type atmosphere. All in all, definitely worth a visit, but most dishes need to be improved upon taste wise.

Worst place in Athens. Staff are rude, foods are tasteless and incredibly salty, tables are middle of kitchen and not comfortable . I have been in many restaurants in Greece But Never Seen Anything Like This. Octopus was like chewing gum. Lastly they are not able to separate bill hence one person need to pay for all table:))) .DON'T GO THERE
