Where to Find the Best Halal Restaurants in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Al Basha is a popular Belltown haunt to grab a quick bite or a late-night feast. Offering reasonably priced gyro sandwiches with halal beef, lamb, or chicken, wrapped with fresh vegetables and drizzled with cool tzatziki sauce, when in doubt, you can’t go wrong with a gyro from Al Basha. In addition to falafel, shawarma plates, and an impressive assortment of drinks, Al Basha offers daily specials that will tempt you to try something new, like the cardamom and cumin-infused mansaf with lamb." - Sabra Boyd

Google
The food is incredible! The Azui Lamb shank plate was incredible and more food than I could finish. We also got the Gyro fries which were amazing and difficult to stop eating!

Monem Salam

Google
Halal!! Nice restaurant in downtown Seattle; good portions as well; if you get the plates, they come with hummus, fettoush, and pita, so no need to order separately; Great staff; we were fasting and even after ordering they waited to bring us food until it was time to break fast

Google
I literally never write reviews unless something is genuinely terrible. First, it took 30 minutes to get our food with no line. Second, THERES A PUBE IN THE WATER? Third, this is actually the most bland mediterranean food i’ve ever had. Save yourself the $20 for a bland, from frozen chicken shawarma plate. It looked seasoned but it’s catfish or something because there is ACTUALLY NO FLAVOR. Very bland rice, tough chicken, humus with no flavor. Go to Aladdin’s on the ave for the same price and more food because this place completely skimps the portion sizes. Our receipt was rang up under the name “Sam” and oh my god they were just talking to their coworkers and barely working. No wonder the wait was so long for absolutely no reason.

Google
Ordered 2 meat plates because it’s listed as 6 oz and we were suspicious about how much meat we received cause it was so little. Weighed it out and it was only 3.5 oz…. Come on this is such a rip off. Tastes pretty good but I’m missing half my meal

Google
After a short walk from the harbor, we decided to try this Mediterranean grill. The food was packed with a unique flavor of excellence. Rhe pricing was fair, but I will say the gyro could have used some extra meat. It wasn't bursting at the seams with meat like in some of the other Mediterranean places I've had. The gyro plate came with a delicious human, yellow rice, a salad, and a warm, soft pita bread. The stuffed grape leaves were very flavorful as well. I would recommend stopping by for a light lunch on the go.

My cousin and I visited Al Basha on August 18th. We ordered two dishes: a sandwich and a mixed plate. My dish was okay, a bit spicy, but the sandwich my cousin ordered had a stone in it, causing him significant tooth pain. I don’t want to leave a bad review, but the reality is that the customer service at this restaurant was very poor. They didn’t address the issue properly and even asked my cousin to pay for his new order before preparing the food.

Google
Authentic and Flavorful Middle Eastern Cuisine We ordered the chicken kebab grill plate, the lamb/beef gyro plate, and the falafel plate—and every dish impressed us with its authenticity and flavor. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, tender, and grilled to perfection. A standout was the saffron rice: beautifully cooked with a bold yet balanced saffron aroma that didn’t overpower the dish. The lamb/beef gyro was another highlight—succulent, well-seasoned meat paired perfectly with the creamy, tangy yogurt sauce. All of the accompanying sauces were thoughtfully prepared, each enhancing the dishes with bold, complementary flavors. Highly recommend for anyone craving genuine Middle Eastern fare done right.

Google
The Ambiance: Mediocre. Cheap tables and not particularly clean, or perhaps not clean feeling. But when the food is so good, that hardly matters. The Staff: The staff at Al Basha were friendly enough, providing okay service. The Food: The food at Al Basha was excellent. Each dish was bursting with flavor and clearly made with fresh. The flavors really stood out, making the meal a delightful experience. Accessibility: The restaurant is disabled accessible, ensuring that all guests can enjoy their dining experience comfortably. Overall: Overall, I was very happy with my experience at Al Basha. Tasty food makes it a fantastic choice for dining in Seattle. I'll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Wow! So good! We got the gyro, gyro salad and Greek fries. All was delicious. Try the Vimto drink if you like pop.

Yelp
Got the gyro plate, but it wasn't anything to write home about. Literally, I was struggling to find any adjectives to say. The saffron rice was okay and gyro were okay and seasoned well. The hummus was fresh and tasted alright with pita bread. All in all nothing spectacular, good mediterranean if you're craving it. But chains like Halal guys are even better than this.

Yelp
Nothing scratches that late night drunchies itch like Greek food, and this place does it well! We got the gyro plate and Greek fries to split, and ended up having leftovers of both. The fries were so bomb, although I was surprised they used some other kind of sauce than just tzatziki. The plate was super filling and yummy as well. The lamb and beef was super juicy, but I wish it had a bit more flavor or char from the grill. My heart still belongs to Aladdin's on the Ave, but this is pretty good too!

Yelp
My family and I were visiting Seattle and decided to try this place, the food was so authentic and delicious. We tried both the beef and chicken kabob plates and loved it so much that we came back a few days later. 10/10 food, 10/10 service, a must try!

Yelp
If you are looking for late night food, definitely hit up Al Basha! Beaware if walking late at night around the area. The restaurant us quite busy. We called and tried to make a phone order, but no one answered. Ended up putting an order through Yelp. When we arrived, we could see they were busy and the phone just rang, lol. Ordered the mixed meat platter, lamb shank platter, and pistachio baklava. Had to wait about 45 minutes for our order. The restaurant was already full when we arrived and more people came in to order. The food is total worth the wait! The lamb shank was tender and loved the sauce it came with. The chicken had a great seasoning. The pistachio baklava was so tasty! Hit this place up if you want some good late night food!

Yelp
If you're craving gyros, this may not be the place to go. I got their traditional gyro, which served lamb/beef. The meat flavor was very bland. I never had this issue before with gyros. In additional, there wasn't enough meat in the gyro. The Greek fries, however, were amazing. Fries were crispy and the sauce was delicious. I'd definitely would eat that again. The service was okay. Nothing spectacular. The food was made in a timely manner. The pricing was cheaper than other Greek restaurants, which is why I wanted to try this place out. The ambiance is okay as well. There are plenty of seatings which is good. Overall, I'd rate this place a 3.5/5 stars

Yelp
Location is great and we wanted to love this place, but that was not going to happen. They messed up our order. Felt very chaotic and a little too casual in the manner in which they managed the service. The food was just ok as there are better choices nearby.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered takeout from Al Basha. Everything arrived at the correct temperatures and was prepared on time. The best part of my order was the Shawarma plate with lamb, made better by the extra side of garlic sauce I ordered! I was a bit underwhelmed by the been kabab grill salad, which had amazingly tender and well seasoned meat, but the dressing was very lacking in any flavor, tasting like just oil. For $15 it was not worth it, so next time I would stick to only ordering shawarma plates. I was also a bit disappointed by the mango lassi, which is bottled rather than being homemade. Overall, I'd order again but would be very selective what I'd order.

Yelp
Pretty decent food with ample seating! I came by the day I moved to Seattle, and I was blown away by the many options this place had! I decided to try the Chicken Shawarma sandwich and split the Greek fries with my cousin. Let me tell you, this was such a great way to start the move. The chicken was so tender, juicy, and flavorful. It had just a bit of a spice to give it a kick without being overpowering. Plus, the portion was just the right size - I was quite full from the sandwich alone, but not to the point of overeating. The fries were very garlicky, crispy, and delicious. I highly recommend mixing them up with the yogurt and using a fork - it got quite messy! And yet, it was so good that I'd absolutely come back just for them. I had a great meal and will definitely be back!

Yelp
I'm in town visiting for the weekend and was bar hopping around Belltown and in need of a good late night munchies - Al Basha was exactly what I needed! Both the Greek Fries and Falafel were super flavorful and cooked hot & fresh to order! The feta cheese, sauce, and seasoning on the hot fries were such a perfect combo! The falafel were nice and crisp on the outside while still soft on the inside. I really appreciate that they are open til 2 AM, so it's never too late to grab a bite around here. Much better quality than say, having a regular fast food joint and it's nice to be able to support local food joints after a night of drinking.

Yelp
I ordered shawarma plate . It was my first meal on the first night in Seattle. I was really hungry and I could definitely eat any food . It was more like ground meat over rice not like shawarma. The taste was not even close . But it was not bad . Just different. The employees were nice and friendly. Before I leave , I will come back again to try something else.
google avatar

Yelp
3.5/5 Ordered the Greek fries and mixed grill plate for takeout. The fries were fire - the fries themselves were kinda like soggy McDonald's fries but the sauce and whatever they put on top made it taste soo good. The mixed grill plate was very mehh for me - meat was fine taste wise but was on the dry side, but altogether the plate was very lackluster. Probably could've been improved if I ordered a side of some garlic sauce or tzatziki. Service was quick but I thought it was a little overpriced for what you get. Would I eat it again? Fries for sure, but I'd have to really be in the mood (or looking for late night drunchies) to get the mixed plate again.

Erica G.

Yelp
Really good customer service, speedy, and good value. They also have free water! It seemed pretty popular too.
google avatar

Nellie B.

Yelp
I had a very nice falafel dinner here, while on a business trip. It was a bit different than falafel I have had before, and I just can't put my finger on what spice they may used. Still, it was great, and a very generous portion. The owners were there, and they were so friendly making sure everyone enjoyed their dinners. The place was spotlessly clean, and it's in a busy area near the big market. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals.
google avatar

Jordan Y.

Yelp
My favorite Greek fries I have ever had. I found them by accident while working in Seattle and I am so glad I did.
google avatar

Sunina G.

Yelp
Stopped here after a late night out and it was quick and delicious. We got the hummus and the chicken shawarma and it definitely hit the spot. We tried the leftovers the next morning - still delicious!
google avatar

Michelle Z.

Yelp
Since the owners changed, the food went downhill. Nonetheless, thank you for feeding us hungry, drunk late nighters. Drunk me ordered the lamb/beef shawarma plate and enjoyed it. Sober me thought it was ok.
google avatar

Cheryl W.

Yelp
The food was really good, with great portion size and flavorful, however the customer service was lacking and could have been much better. Remember it's not what you say, it's how you say it! In addition the words "thank you" goes a long way. If I'm ever visiting the Seattle area again, I'm not sure if I'd return, but I do encourage you to try this establishment for yourself, as I truly enjoyed my food , despite not feeling welcome, which was the same sentiments of my coworkers. Better Customer Service would have increased this review from 3 to 4 stars; after all it's not just about the food, but about the experience as a whole!

James C.

Yelp
This place use to be really good, but has since just gone downhill. Quality isn't great, and the amount is sometimes just a joke Is this really all the fries you get? For $3.99, you'd expect more.....
google avatar

Arrianne C.

Yelp
I'm giving it five stars because of their food. It is Amazing food! Service is pleasant! However, regarding the ambiance, I wish they could take the time to upgrade and clean their bathrooms. If not able to upgrade, at least clean it. Especially with it being near the kitchen.

Adam S.

Yelp
Trash food I have never taste something like that before and no portion scale I got five small pieces of chicken on my sandwich
google avatar

Anitra T.

Yelp
Soooo yummy and was so excited that they stayed open late. Food was freshly prepared and service was great. Portion size was generous and worth the price. My husband said it was the best shawarma he's ever had and we eat a lot of shawarma.
google avatar

Hannah K.

Yelp
I'm not a Mediterranean food expert by any means, but I like getting takeout from here and I get cravings for it. Their pita bread is so good. It's not made on site, but who cares when it's good? I took off one star bc their portions were a lot bigger in the past. However, even though I don't live as close to them as before, I'd still order from here than any of the Mediterranean places close to me. For the price to value ratio, Al Basha is solid.
google avatar

Susan L.

Yelp
This place has the best Greek gyro fries! This is a small order and it's portion enough for 2 people. Their meat is so tender and flavorful. Their garlic sauce that's added with the crispy fries are to die for. It's all about that sauce that coats evenly on everything. I appreciate that there are no chunks of feta cheese, sometimes it can be too overpowering and unbalanced.
google avatar

Hanah H.

Yelp
Great food and best hummus in town! nice to get away from the craziness near the market but close enough as well.
google avatar

Kellie D.

Yelp
This place was near our Airbnb and the delicious smells drew us in. Huge menu. Counter service. Husband and I both ordered the vegetarian sampler because it included lots of things to sample. Serve yourself water dispenser. Food was ready quickly, hot and fresh. It was all delicious. I was not even that hungry but I cleaned my plate. Was tempted to eat there the next night, too, because there were so many interesting dishes listed on the menu. Highly recommend for a quick meal.
google avatar

Jeremy R.

Yelp
This is the worst Mediterranean restaurant I've been to because the person who served us was not professional at the way he replied when we requested for assistance" I can't keep coming back" thats what the server said to us I don't if it's because we were black But no one has to be treated like that mostly if they are your customers. And he was putting earbuds on And they had no napkins on the table.
google avatar

Jenna J.

Yelp
Best Mediterranean food I've ever tried. I was visiting from New Mexico and we don't have anything as good as this back home. The Greek fries had this sauce on it that was to die for! The meat was nicely seasoned and all the flavors were on point. Service was great and the cashier was friendly. If your looking for some great food definitely give them a try.
google avatar

Yelp
I like this place it is good, fresh and well seasoned. Wooooooooooo (character limit)

Yelp
Workers who needed to learn how to handle cash went to pay for a can of soda that was $2.16 and handed the worker $5.16 he couldn't handle simple math like getting $3.00 back in change. So I the can at the register took my money and left
google avatar

Yelp
YUM!! I just moved to Seattle not too long ago and I've been searching for a favorite mediterranean spot and this might be it! Not knowing much about azui, I decided to try the azui lamb for delivery and the food arrived at my door warm and well-boxed. The rice is soo flavorful and aromatic - it's cooked with raisins so it's got that hint of sweetness in every bite. It's such a unique and lovely combination of flavor I love it! The lamb shank is HUGE and well-cooked. This could easily be a sharable portion for two. Can't wait to come back and try their mansaf (Saturday special) !

Jermichael F.

Yelp
Great food, shawarma plate and gyro fries were amazing. Service was excellent and the time to cook and prepare our order was very timely. Will definitely be back and you should check this out if your anywhere near Belltown.
google avatar

Debasmita R.

Yelp
Ordered the kebab grill plates with lamb and it was alright. The lamb wasn't shawarma but it was like small minced pieces, which was interesting. Also the lamb was tough. The plate came with salad, hummus, garlic sauce, pita bread, rice, and lamb. Everything else was tasty and the garlic sauce was really good.
google avatar

Jaid R.

Yelp
Bomb late night food option! The shawarma sandwich is delicious! It gets busy late night though cuz all the bars around belltown. But they get your food out quick!
google avatar

Kshira N.

Yelp
Food - the food here is delicious, well portioned and served quickly. The pizza style lahmachun, chicken plate and soup were pretty good.
google avatar

Lisa K.

Yelp
Great Mediterranean fare! Ordered in while out of town and did not disappoint! Recommend the hummus.
google avatar

Alex N.

Yelp
Average gyro spot in seattle. The fries were good, I'd assume they have nice green fries too. The gyros were okay, it was about a 1:3 or even 1:4 ratio of meat to veggies.
google avatar

Prag R.

Yelp
A perfect late night and all time good food. The quantities are huge and the meat is so fresh. We got the Lamb shank over rice, salad and soup ( all in 1, price is great) and chicken shawarma sandwich- this was so yummy.
google avatar

Bmore D.

Yelp
The food is great but the cashier almost always has an attitude. The worst part about them and real reason why I didn't give them 5 stars is because they don't change their gloves. I've watched the cashier take my cash, give me change, then go make someone's food all with the same gloves. The cooks just randomly wipe off their gloves with a towel they keep close by but they never change them. I know I can't be the only customer who has noticed this. Can we all just speak up on this issue so that they can make the appropriate changes?! I actually love their food and want to recommend them but.... I've said something to the female cashier on multiple occasions and had to get my food remade but it still doesn't make them correct this issue. So if you in to contaminated food this is the place for you!
google avatar

Graham K.

Yelp
Al Basha is a beloved and needed establishment, especially for the late night belltown crowd. I just got a Postmates order seemingly lost in the ether but the staff quickly took care of it. Their food is usually delicious and always appreciated.
google avatar

Andrew P.

Yelp
We had the falafel and it was excellent. The soft, fresh made bread really made the difference. Make sure also to try the spinach pastry, it's not your average spanakopita. While you're at it, try their yogurt drink - it's not sweet but savory. Eating in was a bonus as the owner and his folks are very friendly and fast. If you're in Belltown, make sure you stop by and have some authentic Syrian/Mediterranean food.

David J.

Yelp
Was looking for some Mediterranean food while visiting Seattle. It was one of two in walking distance, so we chose AL Basha. Small place was not busy at the time, so we ordered the mixed grill plate. OMG, the food was amazing. The hummus was just so good. Everything was just, hmmm, so good. It was so good we had to go back again before leaving to go back home. Don't miss this place.
google avatar

Darrion H.

Yelp
It's damn good food when you need it. Just not greatest overall experience. I swear every third visit I end up getting something different than what I thing I ordered. Maybe it's me or maybe it's the slightly confusing menus that I lowkey need them to explain again and again. The place is also a bit dated. The temp control is what it is. Very og Vibes. Idk good much I trust the free water when I sit down and dine. Cups and pitchers need replacing from what I remember. But they are always open and it's better than fast food and you get a nice portion for what you pay so hey, i rate them a solid 4.25.
google avatar

Onyx S.

Yelp
The food was good, the staff were kind and they are open late. Honestly it's a solid spot, if you're in the area and need a LateNight bite to eat.
google avatar

Nicole Y.

Yelp
I am SO sad about this because I love their food and eat here regularly. But, I'm never eating at either Al Basha again. They do not use proper food safety protocol as was true in 2019 when they also had a salmonella outbreak. I have been extremely sick ever since eating the shawarma sandwich and fries that I ordered from the other location on sept 15th . Within an hour I had severe diarrhea and stomach pain that has not stopped and it's now the 17th. The evening I ate the food I was in the bathroom every 5 minutes the entire night. I thought this could have been a coincidence back in June when Both me and my friend got extremely sick in the same way after eating from this al basha location on 1st Ave in Belltown on June 16th. But now I'm sick after eating their food for the second time. So I googled and found out they had a salmonella outbreak in 2019 as well. Clearly they need to re consider how they handle food because they are making people sick. I do not recommend eating here until they make changes.
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
A little quirky like most of the bell town area but one of the best gyros I have had. Walked in, first impressions were mixed to poor. Most if not all tables were in cleared and uncleaned but the place smelled good. We ordered and found a cleared table to wipe off ourselves. There were only to tables being used so not too busy. The gyro meat was great. Sliced thicker than usual 1/4-3/8" I would say. Seasoned well, a little spicy heat as well. Plenty of veggies on a nice pita as well. The side of fries were hot fresh and enjoyed. Great gyro, not a great atmosphere.
google avatar

Brian T.

Yelp
I recently started working nearby and was happy to find this place. They make good falafel sandwiches at a reasonable price. The pita is soft and fresh and the falafel is well flavored and cooked perfectly. The staff are friendly and kind. The place is very clean and well kept. If you work near Belltown check it out!

Hassan S.

Yelp
I ate here twice in a week, once to-go and once dine-in. The mix grill (chicken, beef, lamb) is fantastic and a great value. Very flavorful and tender meat and a solid portion size. The hummus/salad was really high quality as well and the fries were fresh and really tasty as well. Highly recommended! Will definitely return here whenever I'm visiting the area!
google avatar

Jala D.

Yelp
Food & service was so good! The owner was so sweet & gave us some sauce on the side for our sandwiches! Definitely authentic & very welcoming. Had a date here & the vibe was great.

Zion F.

Yelp
Best after concert or late night spot in general they never miss food is good, service is good def recommend
