Al Gatto Verde

"Al Gatto Verde is situated within the walls of the Casa Maria Luigia, the welcoming country house run by Massimo Bottura and his wife Laura Gilmore which is popular with a cosmopolitan clientele. Here, the focus is on wood-fired cuisine – several dishes on the menu are finished over the fire, including tortellini au gratin with 36-month aged Parmesan and Montreal lamb, the latter a recipe from the chef’s native Canada which has been reinterpreted, flavoured with spices, cooked on a spit and served with pear purée. Both the dining room and the verdant outdoor space have a welcoming feel, while the service is friendly and attentive." - Michelin Inspector

Massimo Bottura and Lara Gilmore Want Us to Rethink Italian Hospitality

"Al Gatto Verde is one of the two on-site restaurants at Casa Maria Luigia, focusing on wood-fired cuisine. It contributes to the overall hospitality experience by reflecting the local Italian locale and honoring the region's rich culinary history."

Chef Jessica- you rock! We had the best evening and left wanting to come back to try the a la carte dishes! This is a great restaurant with some really creative dishes. If you are near Modena then this should be on your list. The dishes were a great mix of fusion and freshness.

One of my favourite meals and experiences of all time. Food was beautiful and delicious with a focus on local ingredients. Service was top notch - enlightened hospitality. We had the a la carte and it was great! Highly recommend if staying at the hotel or a special visit. Be sure to do a tour of the vinegar production facility next door

The devil is in the details.. This culinary experience is a phenomenal display of balance, creativity, and artistry. The main character is fire, or should I say smoke. In fact, the smoker sits right in front of the kitchen beside the entrance, and sends a powerful message, which will accompany you throughout dinner. Chef Jess Rosval, with help of a capable team and very attentive sommelier, curated a delightful eight-course tasting menu, with twists and turns meant to surprise you and bring you outside of the comfort zone. The pineapple pasta is the perfect example of this playful irony, mixing sweet and sour with the kick of the smoked pineapple and spaghetti tips. Served al dente but cold, they are meant to be swirled on the saucier spoon with the fork to create a perfect wreath of harmonized flavors. The local ingredients, often presented in uncustomary and surprising ways, speak the language of childhood memories and make you feel home, curious to discover more. The décor and furniture in the dining room could be summarized as relaxed Nordic, with muted colors and simple elegance. An imposing Jackson Pollock is the centerpiece, giving the extra spark to the ambiance. Service is impeccable, but more importantly, genuine. The staff is clearly happy to work at Al Gatto Verde. They orchestrate the dinner like an industrious beehive, but they still save time to chat with the guests and offer their comment on a specific dish. It’s a natural flow that keeps you slowly busy. A truly wonderful experience, brava Chef!

We had an excellent meal at Al Gatto Verde. We managed to get a reservation on the day of due to a last minute cancellation, and despite the short notice, the restaurant was able to cater to our vegetarian diet and create some fantastic dishes. Every dish we had was outstanding. Highly recommend the Adriatic Boulabaise, Sudo, Empty Tortellini and Cauliflower "steak"! The decor and cutlery that Chef Jessica and her team have chosen is also excellent! It would not surprise me to see Al Gatto Verde add more Michelin stars and become part of the World's 50 Best soon. Overall, a great experience.

The genius of Bottura strikes again. The way he incorporates smokey flavours into vegetarian dishes is what impressed me the most! The garden green pasta was so good that I stopped talking until I had finished the dish! We ended up taking home a bottle of the juniper infused balsamic vinegar which is one of the best souvenirs we got on our trip because we can relive the experience with every drop.

The experience was fine dining executed perfectly, from the moment you arrive on property until the moment you leave the staff and experience was amazing. The menu changed recently to fine dining and the food was as good as I have seen at any 3 Michelin restaurant.

What a wonderful new restaurant. We had a chance to sample the tasting menu on a Friday night and enjoyed it so much. Service is friendly and quick to help. Local products and all the craft you would expect from the operators. Catch a glimpse of the "play room" of toys (cars and motorcycles) as you traverse to the restroom.
