Rome’s 9 Best Gelato Shops | Eater

"This small, nondescript gelateria on a side street in the Prati neighborhood was among the first to champion the natural gelato revolution in Rome. It’s been open for over two decades and still deserves a visit. Mirella Fiumanò’s fruit sorbets use seasonal fruit from across Italy, including organic verdello lemons, Leonforte tardive peaches from Sicily, strawberries, figs, and pears. The shop also has gluten-free cones, made in its own laboratory." - Luciana Squadrilli

Just off Piazza Mazzini, Al Settimo Gelo does excellent gelato in interesting flavors like sesame and honey or Barolo and prunes. The pistacchio and hazelnut, made with coarsely ground nuts, are standouts.

I was just checking a map searching for a nice and good rated gelateria opened Sunday evening and noticed this one. That’s actually very strange that when looking for a gelateria with interesting flavors this one isn’t mentioned in any article. But it obviously should be there. This gelateria proposes really interesting flavors like rose water or wine flavor to name a few. I took photos of each flavor available the date of my visit. There was a board with new flavors hanging on the wall (see photos) and there was one with tartufo and mushrooms and I would definitely take it but it was not presented the day I visited this gelateria. And that made me a bit sad, but anyway the flavors I tried very really tasty. I could definitely recommend the 3 flavors I took: Ricotta, wine, red berries Yoghurt, honey, chestnut Pear with rum The prices are also ok: 2,50€ small, 3,50€ medium, 4,50€ big To conclude: a very good gelateria with good quality ice cream, reasonable prices and interesting flavors and very good taste

One of the best ice cream producer in the whole district. They won various prizes for quality and innovation, you can find from the most common flavours to tropical and pretty unique ones. If you are in the area it will certainly worth to give it a try!

LOTS OF UNIQUE FLAVOURS AS IT IS KNOWN FOR! TASTED THE 80% CHOCOLATE WITH ORANGE AND THAT WAS CRAZY AS WELL! ONLY WISH I WENT EVERYDAY I WAS THERE!

Yelp
Settimo Gelo is an interesting gelateria a bit away from historic center of Rome but well worth a visit. The owners Mirella and Pier Paolo make the point of only using natural ingredients and not ready pastas and powders. As a result, their gelato indeed tastes quite differently from the one found in vast majority of other gelaterias across Italy. That said, I would not say that I am impressed or convinced by the taste or texture of Settimo Gelo`s gelato. Natural, yes, but not particularly tasty, and I would even say sometimes bland. Prices are also quite high (19 euro/kg in spring 2008). On the plus side, the place is not touristy at all, proprietors are very friendly and one can sample some unconventional flavours like Crema Barolo, Cardamone, Yougurt with Honey Bergamote and similar. Customers are mostly locals. Settimo Gelo definitely deserves a visit to try something new, but I am not their regular customer.

Yelp
As with every gelateria, Al Settimo Gelo isn't the best for every flavor of gelato. (I like pistachio and coconut best elsewhere.) At Settimo Gelo the fruit flavors are stand-outs: intense, seasonal, 100% natural, not too much sugar. This gelateria is not going to be everyone's favorite; the flavors tend to be less sweet & creamy and much more tart (or bitter, in the case of coffee) & lumpy (speckled with bits of the key flavor ingredient). I have been to Settimo Gelo a number of times. You find unusual flavors at Al Settimo Gelo that you cannot find elsewhere (see other review), but truthfully, the couple of exotic flavors I tried didn't appeal to me. My favorite flavors were pear (in early autumn), banana, wild berries, and almond. The small serving costs 2 euros, a bit pricier than the average gelateria.
