"The hole-in-the-wall Al Ustad Special Kabab is a Dubai institution. You'd never guess that this unassuming restaurant in the Al Fahidi neighborhood of old Dubai has served its legendary kebabs to royals, athletes, diplomats, and celebrities."

The 24 Best Dubai Restaurants | Eater

"Run by the Persian al-Ansari family who immigrated to Dubai 43 years ago, Al Ustad proudly makes classic Irani cuisine in the old area of Bur Dubai. The menu includes kebabs of mutton, chicken, and tenderloin, including some marinated in yogurt before being barbecued and others slow-cooked in mild spices and herbs like dill, mint, basil, chives, fenugreek, and tarragon. Dishes come with khubz (flatbread) or saffron rice studded with roasted dry fruits. Vegetarians should stop by at lunch for options like okra and eggplant. [$]" - Rahma Khan

Dubai: The Layover Hub That’s Truly Worth Sticking Around For

"Pop in and out of the trinket shops and cafés here before stopping for lunch at Al Ustad Special Kabab, a legendary Iranian grilled meat joint just a 15-minute walk from the Dubai Museum."

What to Do in Old Dubai: Our Guide

"At Al Ustad, a 38-year-old kebab establishment, meals begin with a complimentary platter of vegetables and small bowls of yogurt with mint and cucumber. From there, the menu is short, sweet, and packed with flavor. There’s hummus and chicken soup, but the kebabs, which are all served with either rice or bread and a small dish of garlic sauce, are the house specialty. Try the Joojeh kebabs, which consist of cubes of chicken marinated in saffron, or the khorak bahraini, which is slightly tangy thanks to a marinade of dry lemon." - Dylan Essertier, Laura Ratliff

By far the best kebab ever had. There was no wait time to get in. Ordered the mix platter for 3 and juicy, well-marinated kebabs—especially the koobideh, which is rich, tender, and packed with flavor. Portions are generous, prices are reasonable, and the service is quick and friendly. The atmosphere is simple but comfortable, making it a great spot.

After so much social media hype, I tried this restaurant along with my family. I'm really frustrated after eating. the taste is nothing specific. the price twice even we can say thrice for the quantity and quality. There are a lot of good restaurants, comparatively good taste and quality. Reviewing from the heart restaurant owner must think about the price. I hope what we paid is going in turns of good salary towards the workers who are working there. Not recommended for spicy lovers. May be we don't like because of no spicy or flavour.

The place is very famous, but in all honesty, the food is very, very, very average. The Jell-O Kebab is not good at all. My advice is that the best thing is just the tikka kebab. Other than that, for me, it is average and less than average. Some of the food is cold and some of it is hot, meaning hot. The sultani kebab or steak tastes good, but most people come because it is just a famous place. Before, the soup was included with the presentation. Now, the soup costs money. In the end, people have different tastes.

Al Ustad Special Kebab truly lives up to its name! This place is a must-visit, and if you’ve lived in or visited Dubai and haven’t been here yet—you’re seriously missing out. The guy at the counter adds so much charm and warmth, making your experience even more memorable. The walls are full of nostalgic memories, and the atmosphere is buzzing with history. Now, about the kebabs—absolutely worth every bite! Juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. I loved it. 10/10 for taste, experience, and vibes!

We thought it would be a quiet affair as we were the only ones. But within minutes the place was full. The shop has around 8 tables. The walls are filled with photos of famous people who have visited. The food shines and stands out. Very juicy and flavorfull kebabs. Definitely worth the hype for great food.

We recently discovered this restaurant through a food blog, and we're so happy we tried it out immediately! The kebabs were exquisite; each bite was delightful and improved our mood. The restaurant had a welcoming and homey atmosphere, the staff were prompt and attentive, and the friendly owner was actively involved. It's no wonder they've been in business for 72 years. We highly recommend this restaurant and plan to return.
