The Best Restaurants In Adams Morgan

"There are as many Italian restaurants as there are pasta shapes in Adams Morgan. If you want a reliable spot for casual weeknight dinners, Osterio al Volo is it. The kitchen sits in the center of the room and acts like one giant diffuser, filling the space with the scent of freshly baked garlic bread, short rib, and ravioli. The standing menu is full of classics like cacio e pepe and spaghetti carbonara, but it’s the restaurant’s weekly specials like their saucy and tenderly braised duck ragu that keep us coming back." - omnia saed

The 12 Best Italian Restaurants In DC 2024

Google
A true gem in the DC area. Authentic Italian food, homemade pasta, warm vibrant atmosphere, extra friendly servers. We had a great experience here!

Google
Good service, but pretty underwhelmed by the food. Solid portion sizes for the value and very filling, with a quite good caesar salad. The arancini was not bad. The fettuccine bolognese however was quite flavorless. Didn't care to finish it. I enjoyed the well cut noodles more than the taste of the dish. Bread is bland, spongy, and cold, with plain oil added. Complementary, though. The carbonara's noodles were bordering on al dente. Not quite there. They could've used more time. The meat however was quite nice. Place was a bit packed and loud, though the servers were kind and attentive. The food is not enough to go back for, but it is an altogether "alright" experience.

Google
I ordered a delivery. Pasta carbonara 9/10 Very tasty, creamy and saucy as I like. Ordered with extra chicken and it had a good portion and taste. I also ordered a lava cake 6/10.

Google
Food was great. Ordered the Caesar salad to start, the short rib ravioli, and a fettuccine bolognese with a couple modifications. The Caesar was good, nice portion. Both dishes were delicious at time of service and as leftovers the next day. Service was ok. Everyone was very friendly but inattentive at times, especially as the dinner rush slowed. Not sure what the dessert options are as we were never offered. Would still recommend giving this place a try.

Google
An amazing restaurant in the middle of the Adams Morgan Neighbourhood in Washington. A true Italian restaurant with a real homemade pasta! It was like being in Italy again As an Italian I was very very impressed by the cousins and the taste of the souce. I suggest this place and I’ll be back soon! Thanks to the kindness of the waitress who served us! Price is average for being in the statutes, water all inclusive as many as you wish Recommend! Really good

Google
Wonderful spot! My wife and I stopped in for dinner and could not have asked for a better experience. The service was fast, staff were nice, and the food was delicious. You’ll see the window of people eating but if you’re not careful, you’ll completely miss the door. The restaurant is small but open with 15-20 tables. We didn’t see a theme regarding any sort of dress code. We ordered the Polpette (meatballs), Caesar Salad, Carbonara, and the Bucatini with Short Rib (special). The meatballs were large and delicious. The sauce they were sitting in was also very good. The Caesar Salad was large and actually came with anchovies. The dressing was fantastic. The Carbonara was phenomenal. REAL, made with egg and guanciale. The sauce was perfect and had plenty of pork in it. The Bucatini with Short Rib was also very good. A bit salty but after a bite of the carbonara, it was a welcomed change up. The short rib was tender and gave even more richness to the sauce. With fresh pasta and fair prices, this place is a no brainer. You NEED to give it a shot if you haven’t already been.

Google
THIS WAS SO GOOD!! went here for a date and the pasta was so perfectly cooked and the sauce was sooo creamy and yummy. chicken was also perfectly cooked and marinated. I’m in love. Cannoli’s were so crispy and sweet and the filling was so fluffy. 10/10 ambience was cute especially for a first date.

Google
A great experience! Authentic and tasty food with super nice service. Can’t recommend enough if you are looking for a low key restaurant with incredible quality. House wine always hits. Homemade pasta makes a tremendous difference.

Yelp
Volo is a consistently satisfying experience, one of the better Italian options in the city, and not too expensive. They bring out some great table bread, warm and soft, with a tasty dish of olive oil. They change up the options from time to time, but our easy fave is the short rib ravioli, which has short rib inside the ravioli and more outside. Great stuff. It has really deep flavor and mushrooms that taste like they have been soaking in garlic. Yum. For drinks they have a wide variety of wines, a few beers, and my fave: a list of Italian amari for $7 a pour. That's a steal. Try the montenegro, I say. They have been open now for 9 years! And still delivering, that is not easy to accomplish. They have become an absolute staple.

Yelp
If the over 500 reviews and 4.5 star rating hasn't swayed you to come check out Osteria Al Volo yet then let this be your sign. You NEED to check this place out, I am so impressed. My faith in DC food being delicious and affordable has been restored lol. I came to the restaurant on a Friday afternoon at 5:00 pm and we were the first people there. Best decision too because by the time we left it was packed. We parked right up the street from the Line Hotel for free and it was very easy to find a spot. I would say our server was amazing but we were constantly checked up on by all 3 servers in the restaurant, I loved how they tag teamed all the customers to make sure everyone was being helped in a timely manner. Here's what we ordered and my rating, * Sangiovese wine 10/10 divineeee * cod croquette 9/10 * meatballs 8/10 * complimentary bread with olive oil 10/10 * carbonara 10/10 lovedddd it, perf amount of bacon * lasagna 6/10 * short rib ravioli 9/10 * lamb risotto 7/10 Everything was amazing here and the best part was that we spent about 220 and that included 5 dishes, 3 appetizers and a bottle of wine. I can't wait to come back and wish this business all of the success. My food was almost just as good as the pasta that I've had in Italy years ago. Thank you, what's your favorite dish if you've been here before?
google avatar

Mira S.

Yelp
I got the spinach tortellini, and there were only five pieces of tortellini so it was a very small dish. The sauce was also very creamy despite me asking for a vodka sauce. I didn't enjoy this dish, unfortunately. However, my friend got the eggplant marinara pasta, and I really enjoyed that so my experience wasn't that bad thankfully Overall, the ambience is nice and the service was decent. Giving four stars only because I really like the eggplant pasta.
google avatar

Yelp
It's a hot and humid night in DC and no relief from the heat in the restaurant. Servers should have included a mention on arrival... apologize for the heat blah blah blah whatever the reason but nothing said and instead the tables waved their menus looking for some coolness which never came as the kitchen was hot and the outside was hot and two hots just make it hotter. I had a moment where I thought I can't do this but after reading reviews I had invested in staying to try it out. And it was eh! I enjoyed my dish but I didn't think it was '-shout from the rooftops' fantastic. Mixed feelings but what I am sure of is that it's hot and humid.
google avatar

Nalio E.

Yelp
Definitely a great small restaurant. The service was just ok I think our server might've been new or not very experienced, but other than that a good experience. The carbonara was really good, I couldn't stop eating it.
google avatar

Milin P.

Yelp
Probably the best Italian food I've had in DC. Fresh pasta and delicious sauces served piping hot from the pan, enough said right? Great service, open to substitutions. I got Eggplant pasta (alla Norma) but subbed the marinara for the spicy marinara and asked for a different pasta shape, it was absolutely delicious. Crowded on the weekend, high recommend a reservation

Yelp
This may be my new favorite Italian restaurant in DC! My family and I started off with a bottle of wine (Sangiovese) and it was AMAZING. It was more of a bitter wine, and it had me coming back for another glass lol. For appetizers, we had the Baccala and Polpette and both were very tasty and perfectly made. The sauce with the Baccala was perfect with the taste of the fried ball. With the polpette, the meatballs were perfectly made - very moist and tasty. The tomato sauce was super fresh and well seasoned as well. That was my first time scraping a red sauce off of a plate! For the main course, I had the Carbonara and I will definitely be coming back for it again. The pasta was Al dente, the meat was nice and seared so that it gave a bit of crunch. The sauce was perfectly creamy and savory with the Parmesan added to the sauce. I love this place sooo much and I 100% recommend going.

Yelp
Best Italian Restaurant I've had period! The service was top notch, the food so delicious, savory and fresh ! The codfish croquettes were a favorite - we had to order a second one! My party also had the spaghetti carbonara which I tasted n was so impressed! I stuck to a typical lasagna that was very cheesy n tasty. The wine we selected was perfect! And best of all, the serving sizes and price were very affordable! I would definitely dine again and highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
Needed last minute reservations and was pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed this dinner. We got there 15 minutes early and they sat us right away. The place itself is small, but it is really modern inside. The food was the best part! All the pastas are made fresh in house and the bread they bring is so soft and delicious. The pasta was meaty and so flavorful.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a lovely dinner at Osteria al Volo! Very fresh pasta and delicious sauces. We started with the bread and oil and got some fried arancini to start. The marinara was delicious and I ended up scraping it off of the plate. We each got a different pasta and those were also so yummy. There was a ton of spinach on my tortellini and the cream sauce was so flavorful and the pasta was stuffed well. We were sat upstairs and it was so fun to watch the chef cooking inside of the kitchen. Service was attentive and friendly. We finished the meal with some tiramisu which was super light and not too sweet.
google avatar

Yelp
Full disclosure -- I've only ever ordered takeout/delivery from here, but I can't stop going back to their carbonara. It's some of the best I've had. I've tried some other items but the carbonara to me is one of the best things they do. I'm sure I'll eventually get there in person to dine-in but otherwise, you can't go wrong.
google avatar

Yelp
Very good pasta. Good portions, flavorful and just salty enough, truly al dente. And we love a place that does specials! And they were so kind as to accommodate my request for a red sauce instead of a white sauce. There's an upper dining area where you can get a good view of the open concept kitchen. Also I am obsessed with the tiling on the tables and throughout the restaurant. Such a cute place and honestly I might've missed this if my brother didn't point it out! We came here on a Monday night and it was not too busy but just busy enough to feel cozy and vibrant. There was a large party celebrating a birthday and someone dining alone and a few other small tables.

Yelp
Really cute and cozy pasta place! Service was great-- everyone was super nice. Ambiance was really nice too-- perfect for a cute date or a good meal with family. I got the fettuccine amatriciana and it was pretty good, but not amazing. I really liked the sauce and the texture of the pasta, but I thought that the sauce could be a bit spicier from my personal taste. Overall, will be coming back to try the other dishes!

Yelp
This is one our favorite spots of Italian food especially fresh made pasta. It's in Adams Morgan so parking can be a pain. We typically use Uber/Lyft to avoid all that hassle plus it's a nice area to walk around a bit after dinner to work off some of those calories and make room for a nice beer at one of the local pubs lol. Service has been consistently good whether it's just 2 of us or a party of 10. We love it here and only wish they were closer to us in Alexandria.
google avatar

Anna C.

Yelp
My boyfriend was able go snag a last minute reservation, and I'm so glad we ended up coming here! We were seated immediately and drank our beers while dunking the complimentary bread in the delicious olive oil. The waiter even offered to bring us another round of bread, which I always appreciate! We ordered: Seafood Chitarra- 9.5/10 This dish comes with SO much seafood and the squid ink pasta was delicious! It was a tad bit too salty for me. Parpadelle Funghi- 8.5/10 The first few bites were amazing, but towards the end of the dish, the pasta was swimming in a pool of oil. Still delicious. I absolutely want to come back because everyone else's orders at the tables surrounding ours looked incredible!
google avatar

Amy N.

Yelp
This is a go-to casual Italian date night spot for us in Adams Morgan. It's low frills and everything seems really fresh, and there's a large window looking into the kitchen where you'll see staff tossing pasta and sautéing. Pasta is always cooked perfectly.
google avatar

Dimpie S.

Yelp
The food was excellent! Highly recommend for Italian food. Service was okay. The servers were quite slow and didn't refill water but won't take off stars from the review cause the food was excellent. The restaurant is cute and intimate. It seemed like a hidden gem with cute seating upstairs and main floor. I would definitely come back for the pasta. Would skip out on the lava cake though
google avatar

Nina D.

Yelp
I've had this restaurant on my must try list for a long time and I finally had the chance to try it! I went for dinner and the restaurant is so cute and small, very intimate but it makes you feel like you're at a restaurant in Europe. The service was great, they accidentally gave us the wrong entree but immediately replaced it and I think even took the dish off of our check. We had the arancini and meatballs to start - both out of this world! And then shared the short rib ravioli and orecchiette pollo vodka. Finished with the molten lava cake. All of the food was absolutely phenomenal, I was not overly full but just the perfect amount. So so yummy highly recommend!
google avatar

Katie P.

Yelp
Cute little place with wonderful food and staff! We ordered 5 separate entrees and an appetizer and they were all delicious! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Susannah K.

Yelp
Came here with my son as it's just a block from his place. Love that it's authentic Italian food that I miss from Rome. We got the short rib ravioli which was yummy and not too greasy. The Caesar salad was my favorite with its dried sardines. The fried arancini wasn't memorable. The red wine menu pricing started at $12/glass for the house wine. Portions were on the smaller side and we were still hungry afterwards. The staff was ok but not very engaging. The ambiance was cozy and lively for a Thu night. A bit pricey for what it was.

Yelp
My brother and I were looking for a place to eat on the evening of 12/15/2023, we had a place in mind that we wanted to eat at, but they had a long wait. So, we did a little walking in Adam's Morgan, turned to Yelp and came to Osteria Al Volo. We were greeted by a friendly hostess, told the wait was about ten minutes and we were sat shortly afterwards. My brother ordered some wine, I wanted a cocktail, but they do not serve liquor, so I just had water. We ordered meatballs and a Caesar salad as an appetizer to share. The meatballs were okay, they were a little too soft for me and the marinara was not my favorite, I wish the marinara had more seasoning and a hint of sweetness. The Caesar salad was pretty good, I just wish it had croutons. Oh; they also serve bread and olive oil to start with and that was good. For our entrees I got Seafood Chitarra which comes with squid ink pasta and lots of seafood, including salmon, shrimp, clams, mussels and calamari. My brother got the fettuccini bolognese. My meal was pretty good, I was impressed with the amount of seafood, however the meal lacked seasoning. I will say it was better when I heated it up the next day. My brother said he wished he had ordered something different as his meal had the same flavors as the meatballs, he also said his meal was better the next day. The service was good, but overall I was not super impressed and felt this restaurant was average.

Yelp
If you're looking for a hole in the wall, cozy italian restaurant in Adams Morgan, this place is it. Snuggled right next to Tacqueria al Lado, Osteria al Volo can be easy to miss. The interior of the restaurant is cozy, with a nice platform of seating that overlooks the street. My friend and I went on a Monday evening and were easily able to get a table, but this place does fill up on weekends as it's a relatively small restaurant. I appreciated the complimentary bread with a garlicky olive oil/balsamic mix to go with it. I got the spaghetti carbonara and would get it again in a heartbeat. The sauce was creamy, flavorful, the pasta cooked perfectly, and they did not skimp on the flavorful bacon! Also, I found the portions to be perfect- large enough so I left the restaurant feeling extremely full, but not too big of a portion. We also got the tiramisu and cannolis to split for dessert and those were delicious as well! The tiramisu was a pretty hefty portion, and the cannolis were so rich and had some great quality chocolate in the filling. My friend and I were able to linger in the restaurant til it closed and never felt rushed. We were well taken care of by our waiter and I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a nice experience.
google avatar

Janet L.

Yelp
Ordered on Postmates. The short rib ravioli didn't have the robust meatiness of good quality short rib. The filling was bulked up with a cheap ricotta which was the predominant flavor, and the tomato sauce tasted like it was from a grocery store jar. Expected better for the price. The tiramisu and cannoli were cheaper than at other Italian restaurants, but for good reason. They were small and tasted stale and plasticky.
google avatar

Jenna H.

Yelp
The first thing I noticed when I walked into Osteria Al Volo is how glaringly BRIGHT it was inside. It was around 6pm on a fall evening where outside is completely dark, yet inside looked like the interrogation room, with what is essentially spotlights on each table. It kills what could be such a romantic vibe, because the decor and patterned tables is adorable. I'll be honest, I almost turned around and left. I'm glad I didn't, because the service and food were great. I was greeted promptly and given fresh, warm and delicious focaccia bread with olive oil. I had a glass of the house red, which was tasty, but - very skimpy pour in a small glass for $12 a pop. I ordered the Bucatini Short Rib Ragu. It came out steaming hot, the pasta was perfectly al dente and the meat in the Ragu sauce was tender and flavorful. It had large pieces of mushroom, which I enjoyed. The portion was huge as well. If they can work on their lighting situation, it would be the perfect date night or quiet evening out spot.
google avatar

Kristine S.

Yelp
Have been here many times but haven't had the chance in quite some time. Food did not disappoint. Highly recommend reservations though tonight we went late and easily got in. Service was good as always. Highly recommend
google avatar

Luisa G.

Yelp
Had family in town and came here for dinner and everyone was really happy with their food. The portions were very generous, fairly priced and every dish was tasty. We arrived around 6:30 and by the time we left the place was packed with people waiting out the door, if that tells you anything. The servers were all very kind and friendly. The menu is somewhat small with a few additional specials posted on a board. The wine and beer list is also pretty small. The reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is the kitchen is open to the restaurant and at times the smoke and aromas got to be overwhelming. As the place filled up it also got extremely loud. I would 100% return for the eggplant pasta, it was perfectly al dente and so tasty. My boyfriend also enjoyed his lasagna as did the others who got the bolognese.
google avatar

Karl B.

Yelp
Today we celebrated Jordan's birthday yesterday at Al Volo !!! This place serves home made customizable pastas and a variety of appetizers. We enjoyed the Polpette which was a juicy meatball along with the Ceasar Salad. As for our mains we all got pastas but our favorite was the Pappardelle with creamy pesto & shrimp. Restaurant: Osteria Al Volo Food Ordered Fried Aranchini- won't get again, felt like the rice was lacking flavor Fried Artichoke Polpette Caesar Salad Pappardelle with Creamy Basil Pesto w/ Goat Cheese (GET THIS) Bucatini Short Rib Atmosphere: 6.5/10 Food: 7.95/10 - noodles were a little hard for some of our liking Service: 8.7/10 - Excellent
google avatar

Yelp
DC has many cozy Italian restaurants and this one is special because so much of their menu is homemade. I've had the Strozzaprerti alla Norma and the bolognese, both of which I enjoyed, but I recommend the Bolognese. I had that one delivered and it was still an incredible meal!
google avatar

Wendy Eli R.

Yelp
OVERALL: cute date night restaurant. It's intimate, food is delicious, and prices are reasonable. FOOD: my table all got the braised beef ravioli. The ravioli is huge and comes fully stuffed. I ate 4 or 5 and was full and still had some leftover. They serve the softest bread - probably some of the best bread I've had. SERVICE: the staff here is top notch. They are so attentive to you and go out of their way to check up on you. We also didn't have a reservation but were told if we finished within a certain timeframe we could take the next table (we had to finish before the next reservation came in). We normally come here to celebrate our friend's birthday and they always give her a tiramisu with a candle on the house. Oh and the Caesar salad was interesting. VENUE: small but super cute and intimate.
google avatar

Bradley L.

Yelp
Struggled to decide on a spot for dinner and settled here and could not be more pleased with our decision. The pasta here was delicious and the serving sizes were substantial and left us stuffed. The free bread was also tasty. The olive oil that came with the bread had some roast garlic in it that was still whole and crushing it ourselves was a fun little experience while we waited for our food. The staff was also super helpful with helping us understand the menu. Definitely will be going back to try the other options on the menu.

Yelp
If you want an affordable, quaint, and delicious meal, Al Volo is one of the few relatively unscathed places left in AdMo that is worth a damn. Although I'm disappointed they started using cream in it, their spaghetti carbonara is an al dente perfection with a welcome heavy handed portion of guanciale. The star of the show, as usual for the last 6 years I've been frequenting here, is the pork osso buco. Fall apart shank with a beautiful white truffle risotto to cut and balance every meaty bite. A welcome addition tonight was the pappardelle with lamb ragu. I almost feel like this trio was too indulgent but I'll live. I finished the night off with a slice of tiramisu which was perfectly light density lady fingers with a spongey cream. Not overly sweet and a well deserved end to the meal. Wait staff was all polite, attentive, and quick. This place deserves the world and more.
google avatar

Camsie M.

Yelp
Sometimes I forget how much I love Al Volo. We used to live in the neighborhood and were regulars. I'm obsessed with the carpaccio and their kale pesto fusilli is our 5-year olds favorite. We went Sunday evening and I fell in love with the food and service all over again. Amazing quality - great portion sizes and reasonable prices. Consistently one of the best Italian spots in DC.
google avatar

Kathryn K.

Yelp
Service was amazing, ambiance is sweet and cozy, food was incredible. I love sitting up in the little loft area because it feels so special and secluded, but the back of the restaurant is much warmer, so keep that in mind. The lobster risotto is a must try, and honestly a great deal for the amount of lobster you're getting! Wanted to have the lava cake, but we came at the end of the night so they were out- definitely going to have to come back and try it!
google avatar

Steven T.

Yelp
Was recommended to try the neighborhood spot and was not disappointed. Started off with their Meatballs and Caesar Salad. Both were good and the salad was very unique. For my entree I tried their Carbonara. Rich and creamy sauce with perfectly cooked al dente pasta. For dessert I had their Cannolis, but this was just alright. Service was friendly and great as well. Great small intimate restaurant with great pasta. Great for a date night!

Yelp
I haven't been to this location since it was Pasta Mia back in the day. I was very glad to see that it still similar ... delicious, straightforward, casual Italian comfort food with good service and fair prices. We went on a cold, rainy Saturday evening and it was just the right kind of spot to have a cozy meal. We ordered the short-rib Bucatini which was excellent.

Yelp
An unfussy and adorable Italian restaurant in Adams Morgan that hits the mark on delicious homemade pasta! The menu is quite small, demonstrating that the restaurant knows where it excels. The bread is an amazing starter! I loved the garlicky flavor. The pastas were good too! The funghi pappardelle was so delicious and rich. I really enjoyed the pollo vodka pasta as well, although the chicken wasn't very tender. The homemade pasta was an amazing touch! Service is very fast in this charming eatery. We were in and out within an hour. Definitely recommend making reservations here!
google avatar

Annie G.

Yelp
A great casual Italian spot in Adams Morgan. There isn't a ton of seating so I would make a reservation. The kitchen is in the middle of the restaurant so it gets kind of warm. Started with the Caesar salad which was plated unlike any other salad I've seen, creative. It has a good dressing to salad ratio. Got the pasta with vodka sauce and chicken as my main. It was absolutely delicious. Sauce felt so homemade and flavorful. huge portions, you can definitely take half home for later. They only have beer and wine no hard liquor. Overall cute spot for a good Italian meal at a good price.

Yelp
came here for a pre-birthday dinner with three friends and we really enjoyed it! we ordered three pastas--the bucatini cacio e pepe, the strozzapreti alla norma, and the spinach and ricotta ravioli--and a caesar salad. unfortunately i didn't take a picture of the salad nor did i eat it (bc of the anchovies) but please rest assured it did not look like a salad and instead was a few romaine hearts in the shape of a pineapple bound together by a thin bready base with the dressing and anchovies on the side. reportedly the taste was great, but my friends and i laughed about the presentation for ages. the pasta was all delicious, and the service was great - the alla norma was probably my favorite dish. prices are normal for dc (which i'm still getting used to), and split four ways it wasn't too pricey at all. overall i enjoyed my experience here!

Yelp
Excellent Italian restaurant that our family group of six adults visited over Thanksgiving weekend. We had a reservation and were seated promptly (literally whisked to our table as soon as we arrived, while several staff members greeted us warmly). We started with a light white wine (Falanghina), and some appetizers (House Antipasto, Caprese Salad and the Polpetta), and the delicious bread with infused oil. My daughter and I both had the Parpadelle Funghi, which was amazing. The parpadelle was slightly al dente, and it was absolutely bursting with both mushrooms and flavor. I often don't finish a dish this size, and even after the appetizers and bread, I had no problem finishing this! We also added a bottle of red wine (Primitivo Lu Rappaio) to all share with our entrees. Other choices by our group included the Cacio E Pepe, Cavatelli Duck Ragu, and Spaghetti Carbonara. Everyone said their meals were delicious. Those with the Duck were especially enthusiastic. For dessert we shared the Tiramisu (fabulous), Molten Lava Cake (tasty), and Ricotta Cheesecake (I didn't sample it, but my husband said it was great). Staff was attentive and very pleasant. When I realize later than we never consciously had to wait to do anything (order, have the food arrive, etc.) that tells me our service was perfect. I (greatly!) look forward to coming back here when we're in town. My daughter and her boyfriend recently moved to DC, so I'm guessing they will be back regularly!

Yelp
It breaks my heart to write this as we have been regulars for years, but as of Jan 2025 the quality has really gone downhill. There is a new expanded menu but everything we got was very mid. New items like the burrata ravioli were only ok (the buratta was also ice cold on the medium warm pasta which was just weird and gross on a cold afternoon). The arancini was a 2/10 and I would not order in the future, flavorless and dry. Classics like the Caesar and carbonara were somehow transformed into worse versions than we have gotten previously. Their very creative vertical Caesar is now just a regular mediocre Cesar salad with anchovies. The carbonara which is our absolute favorite normally was very bland this time around. The new menus are very cute but sad to say we will no longer be dining here. I'm not sure if its new management or a new chef but I hope it turns around!

Yelp
Our last night in DC, we had so much great and fantastic food. We were trying to find somewhere to go and we were all craving Italian. After using Yelp and looking what was near by we stumbled on Osteria Al Volo. I called to check on the wait, they were so nice, he asked for my name and said he would save a table. Parking, there is none. DC does not have parking lots so you have to get lucky with street parking. Unfortunately for us, there was a block party of some sort near by so we did have to park pretty far. As soon as we walked in, I gave them my name and he greeted me like we were long time friends. It was so welcoming and made me fall in love with it immediately. It is rather small restaurant and even smaller menu. They focus on fresh pasta, made to order. Our server came immediately with water, fresh focaccia bread and oil dip, took our wine order and mentioned the specials. We decided to try the caprese salad as an appetizer. It was fresh burrata and cherry tomatoes. Fantastic and light and absolutely delicious. We all ordered different pastas, myself trying the fettuccine Bolognese, my mom the classic lasagna and my sister the strozzapreti alla norma which has amazing eggplant in it. The food took a little bit to come which was fine because we had our appetizer and it was freshly made. Everything is made to order. This was by far some of the best pasta I have ever had. The portion sizes were perfect size. Any larger and we would not have been able to finish. Mine actually had more meat sauce than pasta! I am usually not a lasagna fan, but my mom's lasagna was the best. I actually could not decide which I enjoyed more. It was all just so good. We are also really big parmesan cheese fans and we asked for extra. They were so nice and brought us each our own little plate and this was the finely grated fresh parmesan that you absolutely just love. I am so thankful for finding this little gem of a location. We are going back in November and this is definitely on the list to go back to! This time with my husband and dad. If you are visiting or live in DC, you have to check them out. Friendly staff, amazing food, large selection of drinks, fresh pasta, it doesn't get better!

Yelp
Food was good but not amazing. Out of all dishes, the lasagna was the best. The meatballs are also very good. Waiter was friendly, but had a hard time understanding that our party of 2 couples needed separate checks.

Yelp
Our favorite local spot for homemade pasta. We always order delivery but it's always fresh and hot. Love the burrata ravioli! Paired with a tangy tomato sauce, it's sooo good. Kids love the long fettuccine noodles to slurp!

Yelp
Service was good here - very nice host and great waitress. My complaint is with the food. My lasagna was way too salty, but I was hungry so ate the whole thing. Big issue I had was that the dessert that I got to go had plastic in it - that's just gross.

Yelp
Cute little place. I like the decor and the general vibe in here. We ordered Ceasar Salad, Brisket Ravioli and the bestseller Spaghetti Carbonara. Absolutely loved the ravioli!! Sauce was seasoned to perfection and the texture was just right. Ceasar Salad was standard, nothing to talk about. Just the plating is quite picture worthy. Now the Spaghetti, the sauce is .. interesting but the spaghetti, we couldn't figure out if it was still raw or it was meant to be that texture because it was still a bit hard in the middle. Service was good enough. We came a couple of minutes late for our reservation but the host let us in anyways. We do have to wait a bit for someone to come and take our orders but they were busy so we understand. Overall, would come again!

Yelp
I had a weekend dinner and was a little underwhelmed by the food. I had the orecchiette with vodka sauce and chicken and it was severely lacking in flavor. I also tried my fiancé's short rib bucatini and it was pretty flavorless. The service was relatively fast, but definitely nothing to write home about. This used to be a homerun restaurant, hut unsure if the secret formula changed.

Yelp
I ordered a lasagna. I got basically a jar of sauce over maybe 2 noodles, a little bit of meat, and a little bit of cheese. Definitely not worth $22 dollars.

Yelp
Tucked into Adams Morgan, this Italian restaurant has a warm, homey atmosphere. The mosaic tables are a fun touch. The restaurant has a front and back section. It has the kitchen in the middle, which makes the space warmer, and you feel in the middle of the cooking action. The setup makes it a great spot for groups or a smaller dinner. The menu is primarily pasta based. The noodles were rich, homemade, and tasted delicious. For gluten-free people, they have a separate machine, so there's no cross-contamination. I had the Spaghetti Carbonara, and it was delicious! The rest of the table had rave reviews for the Pappardelle Funghi and Orecchiette Polo Vodka. Our server was funny, engaging, and an excellent photographer! We came for a birthday celebration, and they did an excellent job of making our birthday girl feel special.

Yelp
Had a really nice meal here! In line with Italian cuisine - they execute really well on simple dishes. They did a couple of classics very well in the Bolognese, and the spaghetti & meatballs. They also did great on one of the night's specials - duck ragu. All of that with the house red and tiramisu for dessert made for a wonderful dinner
