The Metrograph Theater Reopens Its Upstairs Restaurant on the Lower East Side - Eater NY

"Also in theater news, popular dine-in movie chain Alamo Drafthouse has nailed down an opening date for its long-awaited Financial District location. The theater at 28 Liberty Street, at William Street, will open the doors on its 14-screen, 598-seat location on Monday, October 18, according to Variety. The opening marks Alamo’s third outpost in New York City, and first in Manhattan, following theaters in Brooklyn and Yonkers." - Luke Fortney

Similar concept to the Nighthawk but a national chain. If the kids are tired and it’s rainy/etc. this is a fun spot to veg out for a bit and you can order a full meal at your seat.

The location is really nice and it’s a cute theater for a date night! However, the service was lacking. Called the sever via the electronic bottom on the table. Five minutes ten minutes then fifteen minutes finally he come that time the movie 25 minutes in. I already am like ehhhh. Finally get my banana pudding but there was no IPA I ordered. Another 10 minutes bartender comes in says sorry there is no Brooklyn IPA. Like you could or the server could have checked. So I just ate my pudding which was good but no drink. I will try the other Alamo downtown Brooklyn this upcoming Sunday. It was a solid 6.6 for this location.

Love this theater. Staff is super friendly. And the seating is perfect. I love that the audience actually respects your experience. Something I wish other theaters did, kick you out if you’re being loud in your phone etc. the popcorn and the food is always so good! I can’t wait to see another movie here

Google
I had such a cozy and enjoyable experience at this movie theater. The space is more intimate compared to larger cinemas, with limited seating that makes each screening feel more relaxed and personal. There weren’t many people in the show, which added to the comfort and quiet atmosphere. I was pleasantly surprised that the food items arrived right on time, and the prices were very reasonable. Overall, a great spot if you’re looking for a more laid-back and comfortable movie night. Highly recommend!

Google
This is my second time at this movie theater and it’s been great both times! The theaters are smaller than the ones at AMC/Regal. The best part is being able to order food/drinks at your seat throughout the entire movie. If people walking by bothers you, probably not the best theater to watch a movie. I also recommend sitting one row behind the first row since it is quite close to the monitor if you’re sitting in the first row. Also, they don’t take Apple Pay so make sure you have a card or cash with you to pay for the food/drinks.

Google
Love it here. We might be biased as Alamo fans for 15 years and we’re thrilled when they opened one on our island. We love it. Great spot and great staff! It’s our Saturday movie spot! The season pass is so worth it!

Google
It’s nice that there are some smaller chains and independent theaters in NYC but I wouldn’t return. It’s a bit tough to find several floors below the plaza but the staff are super strict about not letting people in even 5-10 minutes after the movie starts even if servers/waiters are constantly going back and forth in the rows during the movie. There are very few rows in each theater but they are so close to the screen that even fully reclining you will strain your neck. I like that there are nonalcoholic cocktails and bathrooms with clearer green/red lock on the stalls. I like the unlimited fountain soda or tea but the straws are barely tall enough for the glasses so you need to drink with two hands or spill.

Google
I haven’t been to a movie theater in ages and this was the perfect experience to bring me back in the door. Food was great. Cocktails were great. My seven-year-old love the movie. It was like being at a bar again!!

Google
I’ve always appreciated the intimate atmosphere of this theater—it used to feel like a luxury experience. Unfortunately, the service has declined noticeably. During my last three visits, there have been consistent issues. Most recently, my server completely forgot my order, and I had to send a reminder nearly an hour into the movie. It’s disappointing to see the quality slipping at a place I once really enjoyed.

Yelp
Everything!!!!! Subterranean cinema grotto if 15 or so small cozy theaters with food service buried in near secret location; lobby and entire layout a feast for the senses even before you get into your particular theater; a sacred sanctum sanctorum for true cineastes because (drumroll on the numbskulls' foreheads who ruin movies for others): THESE THEM's THE RULES for us watchers (ironically I saw "The Watchers" - retitled "The Watched" in England & Ireland because they're them!) RULE THAT RULES!! NO ENTRY ONCE MOVIE STARTS (saw one nice but stunned patron whimper at the box office showing 15 minutes late: "but I paid for my ticket! My friend's in there!" SORRY PRINCESS! See, the swift, polite and uttered-many-times-to-others-response was a pleasant box office clerk's friendly HAMMER: "really sorry. It's our policy - but I'll gladly refund you!") Then the other GODLIKE POLICY... RULE THAT RULE TOO 2: All noisy patrons are EJECTED after one or two complaints, no refund! A pre-show bit has a girl running around the movie audience up on the screen, screaming and being chased by hungry zombies. Then it says in writing on the screen as she's being devoured something like "Quiet! Violators ejected or we let the zombies get you!" Followed by "YUM!" Yum indeed. I'll be back and I won't need to eat any brains to gain their knowledge, like Zombies do. I'll just have a great movie watching experience!! Thank goodness this gem exists! Come to Jersey and send us a rickety rackety clackity noisy train rids!

Yelp
Second time visiting this location, I like it here because it's quiet, clean, and decent screenings. Comfortable seats and I ordered better food this time. The sweet (can't pronounce the name) cauliflower bite entree. It's served with fries and celery sticks and buffalo ranch (not vegan)/ketchup. I also ordered vegan chocolate chip cookies and seltzer water. It was all delicious but wish they sent order at the beginning of film. I'll do that next time. The servers were prompt and professional. Comfortable reclining seats and not over crowded usually during matinee. The restrooms are gender fluid so be respectful and hit the Alamo for $9 movie Tuesday's.

Yelp
I'm no stranger to the Alamo Drafthouse brand. Ever since they first entered the NY Metro market in 2013 with the opening of the Yonkers location, I have been a fan. While I do not patron the aforementioned location as much as I used to (mainly due to programming, which is a separate topic), I still believe they deliver an elevated moviegoing experience and as such, hold a season pass. Anyway, there was a limited release I really wanted to see and noticed that only the Lower Manhattan location was showing it. Since my work schedule allowed it, I booked a ticket and made my way downtown. Drafthouse sets itself apart from other theater brands by showing a mix of classic, independent, and blockbuster films. Additionally, they have a full menu of food, and have a strict no talking/texting/lateness policy. Like the Brooklyn location, this theater is located in a multi-use complex at 28 Liberty Street a few escalator rides downstairs. As you enter, you're greeted by the box office, a section of merch, and a bar with some seating. Past the box office and down some stairs is a Kim's Video which contains a large selection of media for sale; this is also where the theaters are located. I was seated in theater 1 which had recliners and individual tables at each seat to place food. The theater looked great and has a lot to offer outside of actual film. Overall my experience was similar to that at other Alamos - service was good and all house rules were enforced. While there has been more competition over the years with theaters aiming to elevate the moviegoing experience, Alamo continues to deliver a service that makes me return time after time.

Yelp
I'm completely in Love with this theater. Brings that old nostalgia of a classic movie theater. I'm so happy you guys opened back up again and the upgrades are fabulous. The new reclining seats are such a plus. The dining service you receive while seating at your seat plus a full open bar such an adult atmosphere. I can't wait to come again.

Yelp
For specifics, see my prior review. I've never made a big habit of going to the theater for movies because I always end up with jerks sitting next to me. Alamo Drafthouse makes things fun and they don't let the assholes win. I've been a few times, and this the first time someone was talking and texting next to me. They addressed it immediately and explained the rules were strict, and if they didn't stop, they would be removed. I was amazed that at the end of the show, the manager comped one of my drinks and gave me a rain check. This means so much to me! Alamo Drafthouse for life!

Yelp
I love coming to this location because they have (semi) reclining seats & individual tables (compared to the Brooklyn location). The theater and bathroom is always clean and the wait staff in the theater are attentive and friendly. I had the salted caramel milkshake and popcorn. I have been in love with the milkshake and I get it almost every time I'm at Alamo. Last row still has a great view of the screen!

Yelp
My favorite movie theater!!! I highly recommend if you want good food, nice drinks and a relax experience

Yelp
First off the staff was awesome!! Big L the security, has a good sense of humor, very nice, and helpful. Its dinner + movie in the basement of a building. What a fantastic time. Once you get there is a nice size space. It has games, a bar and a few photo opts. The theater is small but clean and the reclining seats were everything. We got the chicken wings and fries both were tasty. The drinks were ok and little pricey.

Yelp
Once you go Alamo Drafthouse, you can't go back! This movie watching experience is the best I've ever had (and back in the day, I used to watch at least one movie in theaters a week). The place is beautifully decorated with retro movie posters and statues everywhere. It has a cool vibe to it and doesn't feel as corporate as an AMC or Regal. The reclining seats in the theater itself is so comfortable and I absolutely love that they have a full menu and draft beer list here. I've had their mango cart road beer with an angry pepperoni pizza and it was the perfect meal. I only wish they would have a location in midtown closer to me!
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
Clean theater, fun theme and decor and good customer service. Fish and chips were tasty and the beer was nice and cold. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our movie here. Would recommend.

Yelp
This is an update. I'm still loving the Alamo Drafthouse and I think they are doing a good job maintaining this location. The theaters are smaller but I like the reclining seats. Also, since it's holiday time, they have their holiday menu. I've had their hot chocolate with marshmallows (they have chocolate raspberry and chocolate caramel as well) and you can get sugar cookies. The regular hot chocolate was really good but I had the hot chocolate raspberry and it was way too sweet. The sugar cookies were good. For the most part, I like their food options. Recently, I tried the fried pickles with ranch dressing and I'm all for them. Oddly enough, I prefer the pizza at this location but I prefer the avocado toast at Alamo Drafthouse BK. It beats eating the nachos and corndogs from the other theaters. I pretty much come here for movies and if I cheat on Alamo to go somewhere else, it's because I'm going with someone and they want to go somewhere different. As stated in the other reviews, You have to go several floors below but they have signage to direct you. If you go often, you can accrue freebies--you just have to redeem at the register before going downstairs. Enjoy the show!

Yelp
Have been to the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Lower Manhattan a number of times and have generally continued to have good experiences but at our last visit they had announcements twice during the movie regarding the testing of the fire alarm system in the building. These announcements were a bit of a distraction.

Yelp
Favorite movie theater in the city! Quality of food is great for a movie theater, recliners are comfortable, and love the whole vibe of the theater. Clean and friendly staff.

Yelp
This theater is an experience! I've never been to a dine in movie theater so this was novel to me; my friend and I had a pretty good experience despite being seated in the front row since the time slot was almost sold out. I've attached a photo below for reference what it's like sitting in the middle of the front row. The screen is close but not as close as a regular movie theater so I wasn't straining my neck too badly. And since I sat in the middle, there was not warping and I was able to see the whole screen. Of course the experience in rows closer to the back is better, but sitting in the front wasn't awful is the point I'm trying to get across! For anyone that's going for the first time, the way it works is when you get seated, the staff comes to check you in and ask for a card to open a tan. To order there is a pen and order card at the seat and you write what you want from the menu then push a button that lights up to alert staff to come pick up your order. Like everyone mentioned, the staff here are speedy and quiet to not disturb the movie experience. I got the unlimited popcorn to share with my friend and the bowl they brought it out in was huge! We didn't even get a chance to refill because of how much there was.

Yelp
Coming here is such a treat! The service is great and the facilities are so nostalgic. I've been here twice and can't wait to visit again. My only real complaint is I wish the food menu had more options. There is a lot of fried food, but it would be nice to have some grilled and "fresher" options. They do have salads but I do not find them to be the best value compared to the other menu items. A simple poke, grain or mixed bowl would be a perfect addition to their menu. Great alcohol and beverage selection as well ! Treat yourself to a trip to the theater soon. I did get a giggle because the theater entrance is down quite a few long escalators. Feels like you've gone down to the earths core.
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
How can you not love this place? They appreciate movies so much and you can feel it. It's barely pricier than your typical AMC or Regal, and the quality is so much better. It's confusing to find (or maybe it was just me?) you'll have to take a few escalators. They have a bar when you walk in, another set of stairs and you'll see their awesome Kim's movie rental store/area. There's alot to walk around and look at before the show. The actual theater is small and intimate, recliner chairs. There's a light you can use to see the menu, and a little pencil and pad to write your order. You hit the little button to let the servers know you're ready. They sneak up, grab it, and in a few you'll have awesome food and cocktails. I was honestly so impressed by the food (also a little pricy, but we were out here paying $15 for stale popcorn at AMC sooo). The pizza was really good, bottomless popcorn; or jazz it up with some churro popcorn (not bottomless) or Parmesan truffle. We've gotten.. chicken tenders, chips + queso, mozz sticks, and we were happy with all of it. They also had a Tito's Mule that I was obsessed with, not sure if it was seasonal. They don't mess around though! No late entry (they'll let you switch your times tho which is pretty gracious), no cell phones, no talking. All standard common courtesy but they actually enforce it. ** they also have kids camp, $5 movie tickets throughout the week, different kid friendly movies where you can bring kids of all ages. Where else in Manhattan can you entertain your child for $10 and get AC ??

Yelp
I was looking for something to do on my first summer Friday afterwork. I decided to go see a movie. The closet theater to me was Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. When I arrived at the location, I was surprised to find that I walk past this building many of times and never realized there was a movie theater inside. Once I arrived to the theater, it was a small theater with 3 rows. My reservation was for a seat in the front row. I don't like it sit in the front row however, I didn't feel like the screen was blinding me like the bigger movie theaters. I love the fact that you can order from your seat. I ordered a Jack and Ginger and the unlimited popcorn with truffle seasoning. The drink came pretty fast. I was disappointed that my popcorn arrived 45 minutes later, when I was watching a movie under 2 hours. The popcorn was cold and the seasoning was just thrown on top of it. This was disappointing for me b/c popcorn is a necessary part of my movie experience. The popcorn also wasn't delivered in order. People who ordered after me received their popcorn before me. My suggestion would be to please have the popcorn come out in a timely manner. It was a 1pm movie on a Friday, I can't imagine how long the wait would be on a weekend night.

Yelp
Very fun spot and a neat change from your classic dinner and a movie. The food is good, I got a pretzel and popcorn. The waiters are totally unobtrusive, I didn't notice them going around during the film. It is pricey for sure and the trays on the seats small and didn't move enough where I could sit back in my seat and eat. Besides that it's really fun!
google avatar

Kay. K.

Yelp
I went there to see The Nun II oh yes I so love all the alamo cinemas because the fact that I don't have to get up and go for my food it's a super duper extra plus and you could press that little red button and they can bring you as much as food you want to all the way down from appetizer to dessert! yes you want wine, beers, coke, ooh daiquiri yes yes yes they have it all minus a blanket cause the AC gets you a bit cold ;) so thank you again Alamo for taking care of me while you guys scared the shit out of with this movie! Amy our waiter service was great was great he was on point came on time we did not have to wait long for the food was hot sorry I didn't took no pictures of the food because I felt like as the movie was started I'll be disturbing others with flash while trying to capture the perfect picture ;) but definitely next time I'll take some pictures for you guys

Yelp
I love the Alamo! I've only been to this location so far, but it's such a fun way to watch movies. The tickets are pretty cheap for such luxurious seating, the food is all yummy (I've only had chicken tenders and the chicken sandwich so far though), and the service is great and non-obtrusive during the movie. My favorite way to go to the movies!

Yelp
This movie theatre is in the basement inside a building. Right before the movie entrance there's a bar and a shop. We decided to get a drink before the movie started. We ordered an IPA and a watermelon mezcal margarita. 10 minutes before the movie started we headed downstairs for the movie Cocaine Bear. In the lobby area they have VCR tapes and DVDs for rental called Kim's Video Underground. How cool is that??? The workers check your movie tickets and you can head over to the theatre. The restroom is right before you turn left or right to your theatre room. The theatre sitting is a lot narrower than I thought and not much seating space between the chairs. However, the leg room is spacious in the front. There's also an elongated TV table with a drink holder and underneath a table light with the menu. You have to write down what you want to order (foods and drinks) on a notepad and press a button to signal a waiter to come and take your order. We immediately ordered a baked pretzel, royale with cheeseburger w/ fries, fried chicken & asian slaw, w/ fries, strawberry shake, sprite and a cocktail. We were hungry so we ate everything. Honestly, the foods and drinks are worth it if you're hungry. You get lots of options! The movie screen is huge!!! Despite movement of waiters and people going to the bathroom, you can watch the movie at ease with no issues. There are only 3 rows where I went. We had a great time watching the movie Cocaine Bear. It was ridiculous. Remember this movie theatre shows both old and new movies.

Yelp
Really cool cinema with comfortable chairs and good food! It was indeed a different experience and it did not disappoint. The whole vibe is very 90s and I loved the movie posters, the whole experience was super chill and loved that the chairs reclined. I had the carnivore pizza which I loved and got to enjoy my movie while the amazing staff took care of everything really fast. The only two issues I had were cocktails tasted really watered, maybe I should;ve gone with a beer instead, and also that while the light on the chair helps you out when looking through the menu and it is indeed less disruptive than something blasting on their phone flashlight, I found the fact that it stayed on through the entire movie to be distracting.

Yelp
Love the Alamo especially when you get $5 movie tickets with T-Mobile Tuesdays. The food was great really liked the wrap and French fries. Note they are super stict with the late policy but are helpful if you want to book or change your movie.
google avatar

Morlene C.

Yelp
The movie theaters I grew up going to had the stickiest of floors, and all they served was the typical popcorn, nachos, candy and soda fare of old theaters. I couldn't imagine what the floors would be like at a place touting booze, a full cocktail menu, endless beers, and a full menu. Thankfully, my fears around stickiness were allayed when I stepped into Alamo, which manages to keep the place clean, especially at this newer location in FiDi. You have to go down an escalator of a huge building to find the theater, tucked away just beyond a kitschy storefront selling old DVD's more for show than for utility. You can order food and drink at your seat, but there's also a bar outside the individual theaters if you have some time to kill before your showtime, which is nice and a smart revenue generator. I had a delicious mezcal margarita. At $17, the drink prices were in line with pricier cocktail bars in the city. I think claiming they serve "award-winning cuisine" is deceptive, or maybe just good marketing jargon because I was disappointed by the basic menu. Loaded fries, mozzarella sticks, sandwiches, pizza, salads, and milkshakes are what you can expect here. I'm not saying I expected haute cuisine but maybe they should just say they have American gastropub fare and call it a day. The movie watching experience was great, with nice big screens, quality sound systems, and seats you can reserve ahead of time. I'd totally watch a movie here again.

Yelp
- hard to find - it's underground - cell service under there - accommodating service - food is decent - smaller theatre than Brooklyn - horrible parking

Yelp
Easily my favorite movie theater in New York. Tonight, though, one of the servers was rude and condescending to me when I tried asking where my food order was. He was a jerk. The drinks arrived on time. My friend's food never showed up and then we asked another server after the rude one left and he then brought it out over an hour later. My popcorn never came and then was told someone accidentally deleted it from the ticket. Im just at a loss at how I was spoken to even when I didn't even say anything to warrant that. So go to this theater but tread lightly if your order is wrong or doesn't get delivered.

Dari H.

Yelp
Really cool movie experience. Great food. They offer vegan and gluten free food which is amazing. Half price tickets on Tuesdays and free movie rentals.!!
google avatar

Pamela E.

Yelp
The food was good but the seats weren't comfortable. The legs go out but the back didn't recline and if you sit in the front row it's not comfortable.
google avatar

S D.

Yelp
Reclining seats, food service. Facilities were clean. Choose a baby day/kid friendly/ all ages showtime for taking the littles to the movies. Food was ok, but the whole experience was child friendly- we will be returning.
google avatar

Yelp
As some one who grew up in NYC last night was my first time at an Alamo Theater. What a great concept. Menu has alot of variety, you order from your seats. The seats recline and are ver comfortable. The servers were wonderful and the bar that is upstairs from where theater is was wonderful as well and great music was being played.

Yelp
Mannnn this location of Alamo Drafthouse is super duper cool. We're long time fans of Alamo Drafthouse SF and we're excited to try out this newer location. It's hidden somewhat in an office building which makes the fun interior extra surprising. Really loved the store area as well as the Stay Puft/Ghostbusters set up. My son went crazy for it. The theaters were super new and clean, the seats were incredibly comfortable. The tables were a tad too small and made eating not easy but I can see how that's not an easy problem to solve. Even though we were seated on the front row, we were still able to see the whole screen without any neck complaints. The food and drinks were on point and especially the queso was good here. Super friendly staff as well especially given we came here on Thanksgiving. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Jillian B.

Yelp
Great movie theater to catch a show! I've come here a few times since opening and have thoroughly enjoyed each time, even if the movie wasn't amazing. The pros: very clean bathroom, seats are super comfortable, bottomless Truffle popcorn, large beer list The cons: a few other reviews mention this but it is a bit difficult to find as it's underground. There are a few other theaters in the area I haven't tried out yet, so I can't compare to much else than AMC and Regal, but I definitely prefer Alamo over those 2. Looking forward to returning for another movie!

Yelp
A bit of a trek to get to, as it's in the subcellar of the building, but just as good as the Brooklyn location. And there's cell service down there thankfully.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my first time at this location. Not very convenient to locate but loved the theatre. The seats are reclining, comfortable, and clean. The service was very fast. Definitely will be back to this location for the next movie adventure.

Yelp
I saw "Scream VI" with Jenna Ortega (Ortega is in the film, not my friend) and went to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Lower Manhattan. Many thoughts about this cinema, mostly positive, a couple negative. Positive: it's unique. When you walk in, you'll see lots of DVDs from Kim's Video, a now defunct place dear to my heart (one of their stores was next to where I went to college). Kim's Video, you ask? It's kind of an unreal story. After Netflix killed Blockbuster and mom-pop video shops, Mr. Yongman Kim (guy who owned Kim's) couldn't bear the thought of just tossing his collection. So he did what any conscientious cinephile would do: he shipped 55,000 films to SALEMI, Italy (population: 11,000) where they remained for a decade. The idea was to create some kind of repository slash museum for them in Italy, but it never happened, and people began to chatter about what really became of the Kim's collection (Link: https://www.villagevoice.com/2012/09/12/the-strange-fate-of-kims-video/) Fast forward a decade, though, and it's now back here at Alamo Drafthouse. You'll see 20% of it on display -- a DVD for RAMBO here, another for Tom Hanks's mermaid comedy SPALSH there -- and I've been looking into how one rents more obscure "flicks." What of the actual cinema? It was my first time going to Alamo, and I was definitely anxious to see what it was like. Before Covid, the chain was famous for kicking out anybody who talked or was disruptive, but they've definitely relaxed this. The "rule" also stood in tension with serving food at a place. Eating pizza and burgers just naturally lends itself to talking -- it's what you do over food of that kind -- and you can't around needing to communicate with your server. I found this didn't distract from the experience, though, so I'm OK with just a trailer telling you to be quiet. The food itself? Ehhhh. Except for the milkshake, our party ("Boss Bitches") all agreed it was pretty terrible, with one member proclaiming a dish "unedible." They were definitely serving frozen stuff, and honestly, I would only get the shake and go get food elsewhere before or after. Seats are very comfortable but a notch below iPic when it comes to pricey chains where you can eat while you watch. Hope they can get the food to certain quality.

Yelp
Tucked away 2 floors down at 28 liberty is the Austin born movie company Alamo Drafthouse, known for its dine in theatre's serving alcohol and cool second run showings including theme nights. Having been to the first Alamo back in the 90s - this incarnation definitely has the vibes. Chairs were big and comfy, staff was on point and the theatre was so cozy it felt like a private screening. I chose the churro popcorn, which wasn't too sweet and surprises of cinnamon churro pieces inside. I was also happy to see they have a $30 monthly movie pass. How can you pass that up! The place opened in 2021 and is a bit hidden. Show it some love!

Yelp
I mean, how could I love a movie theater more? If you don't have background, Alamo originated from deeply obsessive cinemaphiles in (where else?) Austin TX, and despite its being a chain with all the attendant chain-things, Alamo is still made for true movie buffs. What matters: -Super comfy reclining seats (reservable of course) -Food and bev served at seat. The BEST popcorn! The cocktails range from great to weak, but honestly? You're bringing me a mezcal marg while I'm watching the newest Godzilla? I'm not going to be that picky. Also pizzas etc. -Viewlines, sound, screen, all tend to be excellent. -You can get a refund (minus service fee) up to an hour before showtime. -No one comes in after the movie starts. Not allowed. Honestly? GAME CHANGER. No more being walked over by families of 12 who are wandering in during the first crucial plot twist. (Yes, you can go to the facilities during the movie.) If you show up late, they won't let you in BUT will give you a new ticket for another time, (which seems unnecessarily nice but again, not complaining). -Extremely and wonderfully dorky custom content pre-movie, instead of endless commercials and exhortations to buy Coke. -Real movie fan programming - as I write this, they are showing multiple films from 1994 and 1989, in addition to the newest releases. I'm talking Tarantino, kaiju, anime, cult classics, ALL OF THE THINGS. In our house, if at all possible, we see all movies here. Pro tip: this particular location has a direct exit/entrance to the 1 subway. If it's foul weather outside, this is the way you wanna roll.

Yelp
The building is a modern high-rise that looks the size of a skyscraper. The theatre, being kinda an "independent" type theatre... you would not expect it to be in such a spectacular high-rise building. It is about 4 flights down from street level. The bathrooms and theatre were immaculate. The screens are not the same quality as the Dolby Screen at the AMC theatre on 68th and Broadway which is the best screen. But that is not what this chain is all about. I didn't buy food or drinks but that is a big part of the attraction. Not ordering food, you feel almost alien. The employee checks your ticket and simultaneously asks if you would like to order food or drinks. I highly recommend this location as opposed to the Brooklyn location, especially for a date. The bathrooms and space are very clean unlike the Brooklyn location. They also have a VHS and DVD rental giant space with I believe 50,000 options that are all free, which looks cool and adds to the ambience of it being a "classic" theatre.

Yelp
Arrived 8 minutes late to our movie this past weekend, partially because it was hard to find (you need to go down multiple escalators and thats once you find the building which is pretty unassuming from the outside if you don't know what you're looking for.) We showed our tickets at the front desk and were allowed in to the theatre. We sat in our seats which were in the back row, didn't have to walk over anyone or cause any disturbance. About 15 minutes into us sitting down and watching the movie the manager came, told us to grab our belongings and pulled us out of our seats to tell us about the late policy. I asked why we couldn't finish the movie if we were allowed in the theatre to begin with and he said it was because of the tabs/ food ordering. We said we didn't need to order food and were still denied entry back into the theatre. We got a refund but the manager was rude and condescending about it. Really weird behavior especially since the servers were already running through the aisles with chicken tenders.

Yelp
The concept is great a dinner and movie all in one sitting. Very comfy seating which I like. And they tend to expand the catalog with some classic or bringing back films which I appreciate. The prices are tad inflated vs the traditional movie setting. My biggest issue was a recent visit here for Avatar 2 where they completely forgot my order and I had to write a note to remind them. It took almost 70 minutes from when I put in order to when I actually received it. Thank god it was a long movie lol.

Yelp
Such a fun place!!! You definitely won't see this off the street or anything so you'd have to know where it is or know about it to go. Love that it's that underground unknown vibe though. The decor when you walk in is so nostalgic and picture worthy. Definitely adds to the experience. You order food while in your chair, food comes out quickly and staff are attentive. My burger was just OK (sorta typical) and diet coke a bit flat. Other than that, the experience seeing a movie here is greater than that so either know you're going to get average food, or bring your own light snacks instead.

Yelp
Overall disappointed, this was my first time at this Alamo and it didn't hold to the standard of the rest I've been to. A couple folks were allowed in 30 minutes late and spent the whole movie whispering loudly next to us. The staff also tried to tack on a charge for two sodas each when my friend and I both got bottomless soda individually (though they did remove it when I pointed it out).

Yelp
Speaking for the Lower Manhattan location...top-notch decor. Spend some time looking around, a true treasure trove for movie lovers. Plan ahead for finding the place. I wish I had listened to future me and taken my own advice because the four, yes four, escalators we took down plus figuring out where to go initially took some extra time I didn't prepare for-- we slipped in just in time. Now, I grew up getting dinner and then going to a movie. Separate events. I'm not used to dinner *in* the movie. And, I'm not even that old. Yet, there is no pressure not to order. During my experience, I was coming for the movie at nighttime when I wouldn't have wanted dinner anyways. It seemed common to order so if you want to watch a movie whilst eating and make a dinner date out of it- this is your place! (just be courteous) The whole dining experience (even dominates the majority of other reviews here) is big and probably helps drive revenue. Personally, as someone who likes to be really immersed whilst watching the whole ordering during the movie makes it distracting. Especially when people around you in their typically smaller theaters are ordering, receiving, and paying for multiple things. Particularly, when people are crossing through the middle, it makes your eyes dart away from the screen and I had to actively work to re-pay attention. During my movie, the service seemed pretty attentive/regular. I would respectfully disagree with another reviewer detailing they need to check in on drinks every 20 min as the cups are ginormous (!!) American super sizes (you know the ones) and if you are finished with one every twenty mins during a 2hr movie, there's no way you are watching the movie between the rotating refill to bathroom break schedule. But thoughts aren't necessarily negatives depending on what the consumer wants to get out of the experience, it is just the way the theater is run and their specific establishment. Love to see an original theater among all the chains with a unique concept, don't let slightly negative reviews deter you away from supporting/trying at least one.

Yelp
Love this location! It is nestled in the heart of Wall Street and easily accessed via the subway system. They have single seats , very nice - my last experience in Brooklyn it was double seats. The whole experience is fun. You get to enjoy a flick, order comfort foods and draft beer or cocktails. How could you go wrong ? As you sit in the theater , a server comes around to take your order , you provide a credit card and make you final payment 30 minutes before the movie ends. You also chose how long in between you want your food served . And if you want more food or drinks , you write it on a card (light below table to see ) and place it upright . The server will soon pick up. I ordered the fried pickle slices which literally are nice slivers. I also had the chicken tenders served with fries. Both were tasty and a good size portion. Now the cherry on top ... the draft beer . The Alamo offers a great array of tap beers. You can find wheat, IPA's , sours, cider and other specialty choices . I selected a good ole' lager from Captain Lawrence (great brewery by the way!) I would definitely recommend seeing a movie here and treat yourself to all the fun and food that comes with it .

Yelp
Five stars for the fact that they brought back Kim's Video which is freaking amazing. You kids don't know what you've lost, so you better appreciate this FREE lending library Alamo is generously offering. I know Alamo on whole has been shady as far as management n junk goes but this is really a boon to the film community of NYC. ENJOY IT. As for this theater, it's a bit weird. There's SO many theaters but they seem to mostly be extremely long and short -- every seat is kinda from the angle of the front half of a traditional cinema so you're always kinda looking up even if you're in the last row. Then there's these like big comfy chairs but with the tables jutting out directly in front of you so it's impossible to sit back and eat your food unless you bring the entire bowl of popcorn into your lap (no thanks). But if you leave it on your table the chick next to you who keeps getting up to pee will knock into it constantly because there's very little room between chairs and these long thin tables on either side and of course she doesn't want to knock off HER food so it's gonna be yours. I dunno, it's a weird layout. I appreciate that they wanted to keep the screens as big as possible but to what end? To what.. end.... (My popcorn spilled on the floor, to that end.)

Yelp
I've been here a couple times and this one the service was lacking. Arrive before the previews with order in however didn't get food until about 30 minutes into the movie. Those around that arrived after were served. Something was lost in translation there. Otherwise, good experience to mingle dinner and a movie while being extra comfy. Also realized the 2/3 train has direct access to the building! Perfect for those winter or sweltering hot days.

Yelp
Be careful when buying tickets to Alamo cinemas. After the preview starts, they don't let you in. The administration warns about this on the cinema's website. But you'll never know this if you ordered tickets online from a third party, such as Fandango.

Yelp
Been here twice as a tourist, and if there's a good movie out, I'll always try to make it a point to stop by Alamo Drafthouse. Kinda hard to find if you're walking from the wrong direction, but just circle the block and you'll eventually find the right entrance. Take a few escalators below some empty, white wallet levels, and you'll eventually find the actual theater. Nice bar and merch area as you come in, before taking stairs to the themed main lobby. Kim's video store is set up, playing to my nostalgic heart. Vintage posters everywhere, as well as a dedication to Ivan Reitman with a large Stay Puft Marshmallow Man photo op area. The actual theaters are quite small, with just a few rows of seats. They're comfy, but don't fully recline. There's a menu in each seat, and the servers will greet you quickly to describe the process and take your order. You can order up until the point when they hand you a bill, typically towards the latter half of the movie. My only gripe is the bringing of food AFTER the movie has started, but otherwise, the staff stay out of your way. My favorite part is that they take the no talking, no playing on phones seriously. Their PSA literally tells you that you'll get kicked out if you're caught. I'm picky about disrespectful crowds during screenings, so this is perfect for me. Bonus is that they use their own ticket sales process, and not through third party sides like Fandango. This is a lifesaver when trying to book Marvel movies, because the other sites get clogged down like when Spiderman No Way Home came out.

Yelp
First time at the alamo and I loved it... I useto only go to the ipic but I recently noticed they opened a new location in the city and I was super stoaked. It definitely lived up to the hype to the cleanliness and service both were amazing. The ambiance omg loved it old cassette tapes, old school tube tv, great photo ops. Like a blast to the past. I had a Moscow mule very well made. I didn't get to try the food menu but from the smell of the food the people beside me had I'm going back to try the food. Highly recommend the lower Manhattan location.
