Airlines Cut Back Food Options Drastically in Response to COVID-19 | Eater

"Short flights under 250 miles will see no food or drink service at all, while longer flights are pared back to basic offerings—snacks, water, canned drinks, and juice—with no hot beverages and no alcohol available." - Lesley Suter

Great first time traveling with this airline. Love the ease of checking in. The friendly staff. The comfy seats. No TV sets. Make sure your phone is charged. You are able to pre-order meals ahead of time. Gone are the days of free meals for long-distance traveling. Drinks were prepackaged. I am very satisfied with this airline.

Great customer service, smooth flight, comfortable seats, no free meal served on 6 hour flight though. Good price flights and with their credit card get $99 companion fare once per year.

Gate attendant asked everyone to check their bags on 917 to Seattle. Fine no problem. Except they check about 12 bags, then allow the final 12 people on the plane with carry ons. Then I get on the plane and the last 6 overhead bins are empty, what's going on with the overhead bins/checked bags? Is it that hard to get it straight? Figure it out orlando 👎👎👎

Google
Check-In unhelpful, rude, trashy mess. The type of serivce you'd expect from a less then budget airline that charges you for everything, not Alaska. Whenever I'd ask a simple question shed respond with "I don't know ask someone else". Literally what are you there for?! Just to throw my luggage on the belt in the most destructive way possible. I appreciate Alaska in other cities but if you can, avoid flying it from this place. I wouldn't trust them to handle my garbage.

Google
The agents so rude I don’t even think they have one American or English speakers working here . Always talking to passengers in Spanish right off the bat as if that’s their first language . You don’t know what they’re saying could be talking about you for all you know. They need to hire based upon consumers demand and customers that you service.

Google
1 person responsable for checking in 20 peoples bags. This is the type of service you expect from a failing budget airline not alaska. The quality of alaska airlines continues to go down it’s really a shame

Completely unorganized and a chaotic hot dumpster first of a mess. No one was at the front desk to check baggage for almost 40 min, despite them wanting us there early. we arrived 3 hours early as security can take a long time. Everyone was growing anxious as the concern of missing our flight became a growing reality. we requested wheelchair service well in advance and that kept us waiting almost another hour and was so Unorganized. If you wanna feel mass anxiety and completely a burden being disabled, and enjoy losing items in security as it's chaotic and unorganized the way the cut n rush n push people through. My bf lost his glasses in the chaos of things flipping over on the scan belts as they were backed up, TSA did absolutely nothing other then yell at people trying to pick up n dig through to find thier stuff. They 100% should have aided in assisting as items were stuck in thier machinery belt n causing issues making it hard to dig out your stuff. people losing cell phones on there n all. They desperately needs to hire an appropriate amount of staff and get it together. quite a nightmare of an experience and frustrating having lost items. would not reccomend

Flew round trip, first class, non-stop, Orlando to Portland, Oregon. Both flights left on time and arrived early. We had great weather and the flights were smooth. The service was fine, the food not bad. No TV on the seats cost them one star

Yelp
The flight out of Orlando was good and we didn't have any issues. The staff was friendly and the food was good. However when returned to Orlando they did not contact us to explain that our flight had been cancelled. They claimed that an email was sent 48hrs in advance but we did not get it. We checked spam too and no email. This ended to causing us to be late reserving our seats which broke up our family. It also caused us to have the earliest flight out @515am with a 4hr layover in Portland and a late arrival in Orlando. For the flight home we ended up bringing our own food which saved us a considerable amount plus have us the option to bring better options.

Yelp
are at Orlando airport. At Alaska Airlines gate 32 with flight 419 to Seattle. July 13. Poor agent at gate 32 flt 419. She is in the worst way for customer service. Hope she is ok. Be kind to all. We don't know what she is going through. As I'm sure nobody would be able to get hired with that type of attitude and customer service. She certainly has to be going through something... because she is entirely not customer service oriented today.

Yelp
Flew with Alaska airlines recently to Seattle, Washington. It was a full flight leaving from Orlando and unfortunately we picked rear seats. At the time when we booked our flight, we thought sitting all the way in the back would be ideal since it's so close to the lavatory. As soon as we sat in our seats, all we can smell was the lavatory. It didn't help that our flight was delayed and we sat there on the tarmac smelling the unpleasant odor for the next 2 hours before we took off. And on top of that, the seats were really small and uncomfortable. It wasn't the worst flight experience but it wasn't the best either. I'll think twice before booking another flight with Alaska.

Yelp
It would be great if they could actually get their planes in and out on time but I'm so sick of their endless delays -- I can't stand this airline

Yelp
Alaska Airlines in Orlando? I guess that's a thing! Awesome as they had a direct flight from Orlando to Portland, OR and since layovers suck, we chose to try a new airline with no status whatsoever. Booking was easy and the round trip was on par with other airlines and the times were convenient. The flights were not full so we ended up with a row to ourselves. The staff was all pretty friendly from checking in to landing. In Orlando, they're in the "Southwest" terminal which is just more open than the other terminals and feels a lot newer than the pod based terminals. It was easy in and out with lots of dining options in the terminal. I'd fly again if they had a direct flight to where I was going, or if I was going to Alaska. :)

Yelp
First time flying Alaska Airlines and it was a really good experience. Leaving Orlando, Fl there was a thunderstorm so we were slightly delayed. The actual captain came to tell us updates frequently which is super helpful. He even met a couple of kids on the boarding line and let them see the cockpit. The flight was very good, with good food and drinks options. Will definitely fly Alaska Airline again

Yelp
My first travel experience with Alaska Airlines was amazing! Service was excellent by Larry on flight 760 from San Diego to MCO Orlando on the 22nd. I also had the pleasure and luck to meet my pilot First Officer Eric Mueller before boarding and he was very attentive to my questions of the flight, type of plane etc. I had a million questions lol since flying makes me nervous. The plane was clean, well kept, food was great and even the landing was super smooth! Just an amazing experience on first class!!! Kudos To All involved

Yelp
The counter staff in Orlando is beyond the point of even providing customer service. They close for more than half the day on a regular basis. For some reason they don't care about the customers trying to check bags. They just close down and leave. There is no way to check your bag, so you are at the mercy of the idiots coming back to do their jobs To make it worse, the staff at the frontier counter are all there and working, but not these entitled Alaska airlines folks The Alaska staff arrived 15 minutes late, and it took another 10 minutes to get their computers logged

Yelp
My first travel experience with Alaska Airlines was amazing! Service was excellent from Orlando to Seattle and viceversa. The plane was clean, well kept, the food was great and even the movie options were decent for a 6hr flight. Kudos to the airline.

Yelp
I prefer to fly Alaska. I've never had a bad experience with Alaska. The airline attendants are always very friendly and helpful. The customer service from this specific airline is stellar. I was offered and served drinks/snacks 3-4 times on a 4.5 hour flight. I thought that was great! These minor details in awesome attendant's customer service really makes the difference on flight experience!

Yelp
I love Alaska Airlines so much. But this check in spot was the worst. They don't have the desk open until an hour or so before your flight so you are stuck waiting to check in if you have a bag to check. They are also REALLY strict about weight of bags. I am not kidding I was a little over and I had to reach in my bad and take ONE book out to make it light enough. It was really just one paperback! Whoa! I guess I am just salty because the airport itself is hot, and I had to stand like a jerk (notice I am not denying that I am one) in a long line hoping that they would show up to work on time. I am sure now that I know this I should be ok if I find myself in the same position. I just wish they had sent an email to let flyers know how check in would be.

Yelp
I was concerned about the acquisition of Virgin America by Alaska Airlines due Virgin's history of great service. However I have been pleasantly surprised! The crews and planes are the same so far. The loyalty plan is pretty good. I've been bumped a couple of times (see sin flight meals and they have not made any major pricing changes so far. Thanks Alaska Airlines!

Yelp
Inflight service was friendly and helpful, the one thing I didn't care for was the staff when we needed to check our luggage all showed up late to work, all three ladies strolled in 7 minutes late, a line of people behind us and not even a "sorry ... made up reason" just an I don't care attitude and we will help you when we are ready.

Yelp
Had the worst experience with Alaska Airlines during my check-in this afternoon. First, I would like to say that I have been a loyal Alaska Airlines customer because of their baggage policy for active duty military members. The Alaska Airlines website states that: "Active duty US military personnel with valid military ID: Bags may weigh up to 70 pounds and be up to 115" (linear) without incurring overweight or oversize fees. First 5 bags free; additional bags $75 each" Traveling with only two luggages that weigh no more than 45 pounds each, Rafael, the service agent, continued to charge me for my luggages even after showing my active duty military ID. After politely explaining what I read on the Alaska Airlines website and showing him the proof directly from my phone, Rafael was not receptive to the information and stated that there was nothing he can do but to charge me for my bags if I wanted to check them in. I called Alaska Airlines' customer service line and they confirmed, according to their advertised policies on their website, that I should not have been charged for my luggage as long as I had my active duty military ID. I explained to Rafael the conversation I had with the customer service rep and all he did was repeat "I'm still going to charge you" with a very unprofessional attitude. This experience was very upsetting and will keep my family and I from ever flying with Alaska Airlines ever again. Yelp
Luggage service between the Disney resorts and Alaska is really bad. Apparently our luggage made it to Alaska Airlines but they did not put the luggage on a plane. The communication between Disney and Alaska Airlines needs improving. Our luggage was checked in at 11am at the Disney Resort and our flight was at 6pm. The luggage never made it on a plane that day. The flight was good as was service but luggage delivery is a nightmare. Step it up.

Yelp
I flew Alaska for the first time in July 2017to go to my daughter's wedding in Seattle. I flew MCO to SEA round trip, nonstop. First flight was okay; nothing special. The return flight was awful. I paid at least $100 to upgrade from coach to First class. The entire ticket was about $950. I wanted F/C on the return because it was a red eye flight and I wanted to sleep if possible. Departing SEA, F/C was full and the guy next to me informed me he was an employee traveling free: wearing shirts and flip flops. Then I discovered my seat did not recline at all. Inflight service was lacking: dinner was a handful of grapes, a few pieces of cheese, olives and rice wrapped in a grape leaf. Most of the flight, the flight attendants spent in their seats, talking to each other. I used to work for a major airline, so I know good customer service when I see it. This was NOT it. When I wrote to Alaska Airlines to complain, I got a generic email response with a $75 voucher for my next flight. As if! That doesn't even cover the price I paid for the upgrade. What a disappointment, after I had heard Alaska Airlines was so awesome. When a seat is inoperative for any reason, the airline always knows. It was clear they just didn't care about me as a full fare paying customer.

Yelp
You guys suck out of Orlando. Over hour to check a bag using the first class/mvp line. You guys bought by Delta? Need to find a better carrier for the sea-mco trips.
