I flew Alaska for the first time in July 2017to go to my daughter's wedding in Seattle. I flew MCO to SEA round trip, nonstop. First flight was okay; nothing special.
The return flight was awful. I paid at least $100 to upgrade from coach to First class. The entire ticket was about $950.
I wanted F/C on the return because it was a red eye flight and I wanted to sleep if possible. Departing SEA, F/C was full and the guy next to me informed me he was an employee traveling free: wearing shirts and flip flops. Then I discovered my seat did not recline at all. Inflight service was lacking: dinner was a handful of grapes, a few pieces of cheese, olives and rice wrapped in a grape leaf. Most of the flight, the flight attendants spent in their seats, talking to each other. I used to work for a major airline, so I know good customer service when I see it. This was NOT it. When I wrote to Alaska Airlines to complain, I got a generic email response with a $75 voucher for my next flight. As if!
That doesn't even cover the price I paid for the upgrade. What a disappointment, after I had heard Alaska Airlines was so awesome.
When a seat is inoperative for any reason, the airline always knows. It was clear they just didn't care about me as a full fare paying customer.
