Texas Hotel the Abert Will Open in Fredericksburg With New Restaurants and Bars | Eater Austin

"I'm reporting that the Albert Hotel, a boutique property from New Waterloo, will open at 213 East Austin Street in Fredericksburg and will span two acres of historic and contemporary buildings. The hotel is planned to include 110 guest rooms, a sunken pool, a full-service spa, event spaces, three restaurants, and two bars, and its opening was delayed from this summer to January 2024. I note that Clayton Korte is leading the design team, and that the food-and-beverage operation will be run by Justin Spencer, Amanda Rockman, and Michael Fojtasek, marking a third collaboration between New Waterloo and MaieB after projects like the clubhouse cafe at Butler Pitch & Putt and Maie Day at the South Congress Hotel." - H. Unfortunately, I cannot with confidence recommend this hotel. There’s a fine line between quality of service for the price point and simply having an aesthetic looking hotel. I want to mention the positives first. The rooms were very cozy and clean, the building is well maintained, it’s in a great location for shopping/dining, the masseuse was spectacular, and the Pharmacy Cafe had great food. Although the staff was extremely kind and hospitable, they seemed short staffed on almost everything. Their website mentions in-room dining, twice-daily housekeeping, a pool bar, and elevated service, and even quotes on their site, “We have everything you need to enjoy and elevate your stay in the Hill Country.” But no one picked up for dining, housekeeping only came after asking 3 times in one day, many things on the menus were unavailable, the pool bar was closed for all 5 days, and there was no service at the pool at all. We waited an hour for a club sandwich despite only a few guests around, their spa availability was low and seemed understaffed, and a fire drill went off two nights in a row with no explanation. After letting the staff know a little bit of what we were going through, we didn’t receive any kind of acknowledgment from the manager obviously not required, but typically something that happens (it possibly wasn’t even communicated to the manager), which was disappointing and didn’t make it feel like guests come first. It also seemed like nobody was in cahoots with each other; the communication didn’t seem consistent with the staff. We came to relax and ended up feeling like we were serving each other instead of the staff elevating our stay. Being open for almost a year doesn’t justify the price point when service is this inconsistent and slow, and until they improve staffing or adjust prices, the aesthetic alone isn’t enough, people paying these prices will catch on quick.

Beautiful place and very kind staff. However, feels like there's some unseen disconnect between everyone working together. I'm not a very particular person and don't often leave reviews even on more negative experiences, but I thought it might be useful for this hotel moving forward. Waited about 45 minutes and had to ask three different people for a latte. I understand there's a coffee shop associated with the hotel That I could've walked over to, but the matter is that I wanted to be at the hotel, drinking coffee. I think the restaurant perhaps needs a little bit more proper training. Overall, the stay was pleasant and I really enjoyed the rooms. My experience with room service was also good. The only other thing I was quite disappointed with was how thin the walls are. I was on level B, and I could hear everything happening in the room next to me. I mean, I could hear the person snoring rather loudly through the walls. I could hear everything happening in the bathroom (not so tasteful and pleasant to the ears) and was confused because it seems to be built very nicely yet very unexpected to have such a low quality of sound transference. Felt like a motel in that reguard. Anyway, I don't want this to be mistaken as a particularly bad review, because I actually really like the hotel, the area and overall the energy of the people working there. Just seems there's needing some refinement.

Spent four nights at this beautiful hotel for our anniversary. The hotel is perfectly located on main street in walking distance to so many wonderful stores, bars, boutiques, tasting rooms etc. Easy day trips to so many incredible vineyards! The Pharmacy offers very tasty morning coffee. The Spa provided a couple’s massage that we cannot recommend enough (with a glass of sparkling wine from the local Heath Vineyard (also had a bottle from Heath in our room on arrival with an Anniversary note and an incredibly fresh bouquet of roses.) Everything is done tastefully. Shoutout to Holly (at reception) who gave incredible vineyard choices! Another shoutout to Sara (at reception) who helped us with our accommodation details. We could not have asked for a better experience in Fredericksburg!!! 10/10

Google
Absolutely beautiful new hotel that perfectly blends historic charm with modern comfort. The property is made up of a new hotel and stunning old buildings filled with character and history, yet everything feels fresh, clean, and thoughtfully updated. Its location right in the heart of the main street makes it ideal—you can easily stroll to shops and cafés without needing a car. The staff were genuinely warm and welcoming, going out of their way to make the stay special. The room was spacious, simply decorated, and the bedding was exceptionally comfortable—one of the best night’s sleeps I’ve had while traveling. Another major plus is the convenience of having several excellent restaurants right on-site, offering a variety of dining options without ever having to leave the property. Overall, this hotel captures the perfect balance of history, comfort, and hospitality—truly a memorable place to stay.

I traveled to Fredericksburg to celebrate my birthday. I stayed at The Albert hotel and it was amazing! This hotel has everything you need. It’s a little oasis. The room was nice, CLEAN, a spacious. The staff was amazing. I will definitely be back to experience and explore all it has to offer.

Google
I personally have not stayed at the Albert Hotel, but believe me when I say this negative review is warranted. My husband and I decided to book a honeymoon for Fredericksburg and were very intrigued by the photos of the hotel seen online. We called the front desk and it took multiple calls over the span of an hour to get someone to answer. We inquired about available rooms and were quite literally shocked at the response. We were told that two rooms were available: one was nice and the other was not recommended by the staff at the front desk. She said that people dislike the room because it makes them feel TRAPPED. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the honestly, but not what you want to hear regarding a “luxury” hotel. We eventually booked an AirBnB (that I highly recommend) and inquired at the hotel again, this time for their spa. Similarly to when we first called, it took MANY attempts to reach someone at the spa. Eventually, I called the phone operator as a last resort. She had to physically walk over to the spa to get in contact with them because like us, she couldn’t get a response. By some sort of miracle, we did get a call back from the spa, but they informed us that they would have to reach back out to us to see if they could bring on staff to accommodate a couples massage… we never heard back. Moral of the story: If you are looking for a high end hotel with top tier service, this is definitely not it.

Google
Beautiful property. Very well located. Rooms are super nice and comfortable. Unbelievably pet friendly! Service is lacking though which is very unfortunate. Seems like the hotel, and most places in Fredericksburg for that matter, are understaffed. There were a number is misses during our stay including very late check in (rooms not ready), in room dining (lost order), the restaurant/bar (slow service), housekeeping (room cleaned in late afternoon/evening after returning for the day). I would definitely stay again but they need more staff to be able to make this an unforgettable stay.

Lauren

Google
This hotel is absolutely gorgeous and super walkable being right off Main St. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the rooms weren’t very soundproof (and I’m not someone who gets bothered by some noise)— could hear the neighbors next door snoring at night, upstairs walking around and flushing the toilet, and lots of noise from the hall. I was very surprised and we ended up not sleeping well. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were awful. Also, the pool was open, but not at all heated so it was unusable which was a big disappointment for me as the beautiful pool was a huge selling point (there was no hot tub either). So overall I was very underwhelmed by the experience, especially for a pricier hotel I was expecting more from. Honestly wish I had gone for a more basic hotel with a hot tub and better soundproofed rooms, which would have also been a lot cheaper.

Yelp
Albert Hotel is the perfect place to stay in Fredericksburg, perfectly located in the heart of this charming town, has everything you want for a perfect getaway! They have valet (with a cost per night) , gorgeous Lobby and the staff is attentive. I really liked their bar, with excellent cocktails and the bar takes you to a patio that overlooks the pool. We did not enjoy the pool but it looked beautiful and great for a relaxing day. Our room was spacious and had everything we needed for our stay, loved the bath robes and the water pressure is the shower was excellent! Very comfortable beds with those pillows hat as soon as you lay down you just dream away. I really like the fact that through the back exit you get to Main Street and you have all the ships, restaurants and cute boutiques right there. Price is fair.

Yelp
Stayed here with my husband and pup Tuesday-Thursday. It was our first time in Fredericksburg and staying at The Albert did not disappoint. The staff were very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The Albert is in the perfect location, right off of Main Street close to shops and restaurants. Everything was amazing and if I'm being honest my only complaint is that the walls are a bit thin and it can be a little noisy at night. We most certainly will be back. Oh and don't forget to check out the pharmacy, the saloon, and the hotel bar. The pharmacy had great coffee and pastries, the saloon really does have some stroooong margaritas, and the hotel bar has some good whiskey.

Daniel W.

Yelp
Top 10 reasons to NOT stay at the Albert: 10. Doesn't resemble a 5 star. 3 star to 4 at best. 9. Complimentary coffee is watered down. Not quality 8. Understaffed. Had 1 waiter in the am with 1 cook who wasn't even the actual cook. 7. Be ready to carry your own luggage or wait forever. 6. No tortilla chips sold in restaurant or room service (this is Texas!) 5. Room service menu is burgers and fries and salad. Limited. 4. No pool bar to hang out and watch football. 3. Valet parking inadequate. 1 staffer, no direction. 2. Rooftop views of air conditioning condenser right outside your window! 1. DO NOT COME HERE ON A SATURDAY NIGHT. They are booked all year for weddings and they allow live bands to play till 11 o'clock at night right outside your room. Staff is nice and try to accommodate but hotel is not operated adequately.

Yelp
I have been sitting on this review for a while. Let me start by saying my friend and I had booked a stay here for a trip for multiple nights, but our experience made us book elsewhere. This is not the service that is indicative of a luxury hotel. It is not only slow, but while staying, I had the displeasure of meeting a man who seems to be a manager of some kind with dark hair and glasses. He made advances that one, were regardlessly completely inappropriate given he was at his place of work, and two, made my friend uncomfortable. All the other faces we saw were nice, but his disposition was so bad we booked a different hotel (and didn't even bother cancelling our reservation for want of leaving asap) while dining in. Such a shame that I didn't get to experience all this place had to offer-- it just shows how much that the people you employ reflect upon your business.

Deb S.

Yelp
We had an absolutely wonderful experience at The Albert Hotel. Every detail is exquisite, from the elegant lighting and furnishings in the rooms to the beautifully designed plates in the restaurant and the stunning lobby bar. The staff truly go above and beyond. The valets were incredibly attentive, kind, and helpful, and every member of the housekeeping team was a delight. The hotel's location couldn't be better, and the on-site BBQ restaurant, saloon, and coffee shop (The Pharmacy) make it the ideal place to stay in Fredericksburg. Our favorite part of the stay, though, was Patrick from Germany at the lobby bar. His exceptional cocktails and witty sense of humor kept us there for hours. We can't wait to com

Yelp
Very nice, contemporary hotel on Main street. Good location. The entrance is at the back of the hotel off of Austin street. We didn't stay here, just stopped in for a late evening drink. Beautiful lobby and bar area, which also serve as the entire sitting area for their restaurant (we'll try next visit?). My wife liked her dirty martini, and the blueberry mule I had was memorable and worthy of 5 stars. If you're looking for a nice, subdued bar for a drink, stop here.

Yelp
If you're looking for a haunted house experience disguised as a hotel stay, look no further than The Albert. We booked it for a girls' trip, and ironically, this ghastly experience unfolded just weeks before Halloween--how fitting. From the moment we arrived, it felt like we'd stepped into a horror movie. Broken plumbing groaned like tortured spirits, and yes, green slime--actual slime--oozed from the ceiling, dripping ominously onto the floor below. Strange noises echoed through the halls at night, as if something--or someone--was lurking just out of sight. But the terror didn't stop there. The front desk staff looked like they'd just crawled out of a crypt, with zombie-like customer service that was as chilling as it was incompetent. Need ice or water? Good luck--they're as rare as a ghost sighting. Want an itemized bill? They'll vanish like a phantom when you ask. As someone who travels internationally, I can say with confidence: this was one of the most horrifying hotel experiences I've ever endured. The valet staff were the only glimmer of humanity in this otherwise cursed establishment. Instead of a folio, we were handed a cryptic bill for incidentals and taxes--no explanation, no accountability, just confusion. Sarah (the manager) and Hannah at the front desk were especially chilling--cold, dismissive, and downright rude. And we weren't alone. At checkout, the lobby was filled with other disgruntled guests, each with their own tale of terror. It seems bad experiences here are not the exception--they're the rule. Fredericksburg may be charming, but if you want to sleep peacefully and avoid a real-life horror story, stay far, far away from The Albert.

Yelp
It's brand spanking new, so some little things that could use some attention. I'll get to that later. Checking in was a tad sporadic, due to wifi issues. Hey F-Burg has always had wifi issues. What was good is, the front staff were quite accommodating and handled the situation well. Plus, one of them had a little bitty bowtie on her fingernail. Right!? Totally cool. I ushered Suzie over to the bar to meet Patrick, "The German" bartender. Meanwhile, the computer was up and some chick cut in front of me. No worries. My turn, got the low down.. like 24hrs Coffee delivery to the room.. yup. In the old days, there were other things that one might do to stay up all night, but this was unique and extraordinary. Same with water service if I remember correctly. Checked in, they do take a credit card for incidentals, Ms cut in line, couldn't quite comprehend this. Front desk bow tie gurl, explained it very well. She must be in management, if not she should. I quickly got caught up, got the welcome spiel, bell boy (is that PC these days?) had our luggage and I slipped him a Hamilton and asked if he would deposit my luggage in our room while I got acquainted to the almost to good looking barkeep my spouse was swooning over. Yes sir, thank you sir was the response from said luggage assistant. Room, when we finally got there. Very nice. Larger than I expected. We were in a Springs King, overlooking the pool on the third floor. #339. Bathroom was well appointed, glass enclosed shower, towels and stuff. Stuff I don't like, not a hit on these guys, but lotion. All the friggin lotion. Whatever happened to a bar of soap? All these high class hotels want me to smell like George Michaels. Look it up. I don't want to use a wash cloth and wash my privates, it never ends well and I want to end up throwing said washcloth away. Not on top of my Charmin game I guess. Anyhow. The wonderful things about the decor is, modern chic, subtle. The bed, amazing. TV worked. There isn't not really a very comfortable place to sit and watch and see the TV, just a bench in front of the bed. Or, I guess you could actually be in bed. Perhaps you could pull out the TV and it's on a swivel mount? Maybe the luggage assistant would of pointed that out to me had I given him the time of day to go up to the room with him. That's on me. There was a safe, hidden in a bottom drawer. The usual expensive stoner snacks. Yes, I had the popcorn and trail mix. $30 bill there probs. There was a little fridge for vino/adult beverages all at convenient price-point. It fits a bottle of wine I didn't finish after an amazeball meal at The Restaurant. Btw, eat there. I wished there was an easier way to stream on the TV. I wish we didn't stay in a little late so our room wasn't serviced till late afternoon. I really wish that when the place was built some sound insulation was added between the walls. We had a gaggle next door and it got a tad loud, but it was tolerable. Didn't necessarily wake me up or perhaps it did. I fell back to sleep in my comfy bed. While we were waiting on our dinner that evening, we revisited Ze German at the bar. A strapping young man with a quick smile, deep blue eyes and the accent. He was boisterous, entertaining, witty, friendly, fit and made good drinks. He was a show man in command of his bar. Nothing wrong with that. The bar was a lively place on a Friday night and some good simple food options and the usual transient crowd, just with the current political environment, best to keep conversations with strangers, light. And I don't think he was a good businessman, Lubbock gurl. Two nights were a very nice respite from Austin. I enjoyed sitting in the lobby and reading some and enjoying getting over the hangover from the night before. Just me and the love of my life, chillin in a great space relaxing getting ready for our evening out. Everyone here is on the very nice side of things. Seems they really like their jobs and being there. Or they put out some really good ju ju. We will definitely be back. We may just be back to eat at The Restaurant and least we forget the huge Room Service breakfast. That ham/cheese thing pastry was epic.

Yelp
Calling this a luxury hotel is a bit of a stretch. It's nice but it's not a luxury hotel. They definitely should take a look at the amenities and re-evaluate how they market themselves. It's more boutique and a 3-star than a 5-star hotel. The room is noisy. I could hear everything happening the hallways and noise from the kids in other rooms. Something has to be done about the thin walls and loud noise. What baffled me the most about my experience was that a housekeeper just walked into my room while I was sleeping. I was taking a nap before dinner and was awaken to someone opening my door for turndown service. This made me feel so uncomfortable and unsafe that someone just walked into my room. Please consider training your staff to only open rooms if guests have specifically indicated they want turndown service. On top of that, our keys didn't work so we had to come back down to front desk. I feel terrible for the front desk staff, as they were actually lovely and tried their best to be accommodating. There are unfinished parts to the room. Bathrooms tiles were a mess. It seems like the hotel was in a rush to open. Again, not horrible for a hotel but you cannot market this property as a luxury hotel. It's clear that the hotel has recently opened and is still working out kinks. The nightly rate definitely not worth the experience.

Yelp
First, I have traveled throughout the world extensively and have worked in the hotel industry. So my expectations are not unreasonable. Especially since the hotel was being branded as a luxury venue. The hotel itself is beautiful and has some wonderful finishes. However, it has room for major improvement on the operations side. In my younger or previous life I was the Director of Operations/Guest Relations. The first face (lobby lizard) that every guest saw when they entered the hotel. It was the my role to inspect every room for each guests arrival. It was also my role to know EVERY GUEST with a reservation and what their needs/requests would be during their stay. I or my team was ALWAYS available should they have anything that needed addressed. I would walk the property with the GM, Engineering, Housekeeping, and F&B to ensure everything was perfect. It is my formative years that developed my love for travel. From the Omni Mandalay, NY Waldorf, The Churchill in London, or The Biltmore in Dubai your experience begins before your arrival. In my case, you missed the mark. Long before I EVER arrived. Schedule delays kept pushing things back, I that I understand. However opening before the room were ready, that's on you. For such a premiere property, housekeeping has a long was to go and it was painfully obvious that staffing was a problem throughout the hotel. I was twice told that the steaks were the best that I would find in Fredericksburg. I was very disappointed and the quality was definitely not what I expected for a property being branded as The Albert has been. I suggest you visit Webers in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Definitely not a 5 Star hotel, but the restaurant blows the Albert away. And honestly, Jacks steaks were better. While creating a hospitality experience team is not cheap, and requires the full support of the GM, it may be the one thing that corrects the operations. Sadly, I have heard similar experiences from locals. I assure you, I know the Waldorf branding and should you want to be competitive, things must change and quickly. I don't have a problem money for great food, excellent service, and the experience. I have a problem dropping money for what should have been 5 star and was 3 at best. All that said, I will give you another chance. And I will be watching when I walk through the hotel at the guests experience. Staffing. Tenure. Friendliness. A smile. Those are the things that provide your diamonds clarity.

Yelp
I love that this hotel is in the middle of Fredericksburg. It's easy to walk to all the stores and restaurants. I love that. It's brand new and still smells like fresh paint. Everything is clean and the customer service was excellent. The rooms are a little bare but spacious and could use a little desk or sitting area other than the cushion in the window. I definitely would be back and stay here again.

Yelp
Pros- Location to Main Street, food in dining room good but pricey, bar, bed, shower Cons- Rooms noisy, dark, no chairs to sit as well as items missing in room were hand soap, body lotion, & hotel directory listing things to do, places to eat, etc. "Dining room" located near bar & tendency to get noisy

Erica K.

Yelp
Amazing stay! Beautiful clean rooms. Gorgeous hotel grounds. The food in the restaurant was AMAZING! It's different than their in-room dining, so I recommend eating down in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast if you can. The room service coffee was delicious and staff was very nice.

Kami S.

Yelp
My husband and I enjoyed a long weekend. The hotel is upscale but also welcoming. The staff were friendly and they seemed genuinely happy to help. The rooms were uniquely romantic with an antique green color scheme was a welcomed change from the contrasts of greys and whites most places have turned. The bathrooms and showers were spotless. The beds were extremely comfortable and we slept solid all night. Dinner was amazing! Breakfast at the historical Pharmacy was delish. I would recommend coffee in the rooms bc the service was busy when we tried to call it in. They have a complementary coffee area so my hubs did the honors while I got ready. The location is the best in Fredericksburg! You can step right out the back doors to Main Street and enjoy the town has to offer.

Steven S.

Yelp
Customer service, attention to detail, unbelievable architecture, friendly and attentive staff. The rooms are elegantly simple and incredibly comfortable. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
The appetizers at The Restaurant were great. The mains seemed to lack quality in relation to the price. Very nice hotel, great location. We ordered room service and that was perfect as was the quality of the breakfast. Overall service, excluding room service and valet, was below average but expected seeing that The Albert just opened. Additionally, just a heads up The Restaurant does not have off menu kids options so plan ahead.

Robert S.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel and best location to enjoy Main Street. Friendly staff & great food!

Andrea W.

Yelp
Form over function on this one. On the upside it's pretty and a great location for Main Street. Showers were delightful. On the downside - beds are rock hard and not comfortable at all. The room setup is frustrating with no real bedside tables. Room air conditioning very poor and feels like it's barely functioning. The bar and restaurant area is somewhat soulless and lacks ambience and the service is super slow. Other than the front desk most of the staff are petty flat.

Tom S.

Yelp
Stopped by the restaurant at the hotel on a Sunday afternoon. I was hungry for a steak dinner. Sat at the bar. The bartender was good, but the rib eye steak was horrible. It was cooked right, but just an awful piece of beef. And at $65 plus more for a side or two, I expected something of much higher quality. When asked about my meal, I described it as a $25 steak at Western Sizzler, and at least they would have included fries or a baked potato. I asked the bartender what I should have ordered and he whispered "nothing at this restaurant."

Barbara H.

Yelp
Stopped in to see the place and have a glass of wine at the bar with a friend. Atmosphere was kind of formal but very new and attractive. Staff friendly and attentive. Price was ridiculous. We had one glass of wine each and bill was over $50. We didn't order anything special. But will not go back

Heather J.

Yelp
Paying for the location not for luxury. Thin walls, mediocre service, restaurants are sub. Definitely a skip

Logan S.

Yelp
Albert hotel is great Marlee gave us a great experience. Ryan was shaking and baking at the bar throwing out the best drinks since we had at Shreveport. Broken glasses and dreams do come true I found my wife here thanks to Ryan. Love this this place. Would come back anytime.

Spencer B.

Yelp
Drinks are really nice and it is a sophisticated atmosphere. Food menu is overpriced for the area so chose not to eat and can only comment on drinks and vibe.

David P.

Yelp
This hotel allows dogs and we have been listening to an unattended dog bark for over an hour. It is almost 11 pm and staff is saying there is nothing they can do as they are trying to get in touch with the folks in that room. Let the buyer beware....we are paying a fortune for this room and it is not worth the aggravation of not being able to sleep

Esperanza G.

Yelp
FAR from a luxury hotel. Better than Holiday Inn....but not much. Although it has been under construction for years.....the hotel is NOT finished. It looks as though the middle school shop class built this thing. It is VERY poor construction everywhere you look. So many things wrong. So many. Keys didn't work twice. Room was not cleaned when we left and came back 4 hours later.....for this $$.... there a a lot nicer options in Fred. Go somewhere else until they figure it out.....if they ever do.

Sam E.

Yelp
Great location. Terrible rooms. You can hear everything above, below and beside you. You can hear other guest hanging up clothes, flushing toilets and walking around. We couldn't sleep at all even with sound machines and wine. WiFi doesn't work either and couldn't get a cell signal in room. Stay elsewhere for the price. Rooms are also very dark with little lighting.

Renee C.

Yelp
Needs work! Super loud noises in the room! Could not sleep!! And the food was mediocre with small portions! Disappointing! I did like the shower and the bed was super comfy. It's in a great location. It will be so nice after they fix the noises in the rooms and the lighting!!

Robert G.

Yelp
Amazing hotel, location is perfect and dining was outstanding - be sure and visit the pharmacy and the saloon.
