The Best Restaurants in Santa Barbara, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"After a tenure at Montecito’s Four Seasons Biltmore, pastry chef Alessia Geuhr struck out on her own with a charming Downtown cafe. The pastry case is chock-full of classics, including croissants, guava cream cheese Danishes, and even monkey bread. If a full meal is in order, opt for the blue crab crepe (if in season) in the early hours, or the salmon Nicoise for lunch. The bright dining room, filled with natural light from its front-facing windows, makes this a foolproof choice for daytime outings." - Mona Holmes

Google
Their pistachio croissant was phenomenal. Other pastries were delicious, but you have to try their croissants. They're pricier than regular croissants in other cafes, but you'd know why their croissants cost a little extra. They're just so much better. The same probably goes for other food items on the menu. I'd try getting there early (or late in the afternoon) as the place gets crowded very quickly.

Delicious pastries and lunch items. Desserts look and taste like works of art. Lunch order include avocado toast with smoked salmon, roast beef sandwich, and crab crepes. The only minor issue is sometimes service can be a bit slow.

Google
Hands down these were delicious pastries. We got the pistachio creme croissant and would recommend! We even got it again the next day and ordered additional croissants (Baklava, almond chocolate). The cafe does get quite busy with the small dining area filled, but there were also seating outside which the staff would bring out your order to you

Google
I love Aleesia! The food is so good. The staff is friendly. The place is clean and lovely. Please note, Tuesdays thru Friday, there is no table service and one must order and pay at the cashier's counter. That being said, everyone is helpful and friendly, but there is no sign alerting you to that fact. I took my Mom and Dad for their birthdays and they both felt like they were royalty. If you are undecided about what bakery item to buy, please try the multi-layered Chocolate Crunch item ($15) so worth it!!! They are located on Canon Perdido across from the Presido (historical momument). Give them a try. The food is divine!

Google
Delicious! One dish can easily be shared by 2 people. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating is dog friendly.

Google
We walked into this bakery because of the delicious looking display window and to our delight they had our favorite pastry the Kouign Amann. It’s difficult to find a bakery that can make such a labor-intensive buttery croissant like pastry but this store makes them to perfection! We have been back several times for the same thing and they were equally as good. Can’t wait to go back and try some of their other delicious items. We also had cappuccinos which were pretty good as well.

Google
Good croissants and pastries, but they aren’t really worth the price. The chocolate croissant had delicious buttery layers but could do with more chocolate. The white chocolate strawberry muffin was good, and the truffle croissant was great. Their staff was patient and friendly. Overall I would recommend trying their pastries once although I don’t feel the urge to go back.

Google
I love high tea and this place does it well. They have a lovely space that’s perfect for taking tea. The sandwiches were yummy although the bread on one side was dry so I’m guessing they made them a little bit in advance. The sweets were beautiful to behold and tasty. Besides tea, they also offer you mimosa or lavender lemonade. Although I prefer to have my own teapot and a cup and saucer, they came by often to our more tea into your (very nice) mug. The cost is much more expensive than where I’m from (I won’t ever complain again about $38 for high tea) but it’s much less around here in Santa Barbara. It really was such a nice way to celebrate my friend’s birthday.

Yelp
The friendliest welcoming of all the restaurants we visited. The hostess chatted with us and made sure to find us while we were drooling over the pastry case to let us know our table was about to be ready. The food was also delicious. Some were complaining about the wait time but we felt our dishes were well worth it. Good food takes time.

Yelp
I loved breakfast at Alessia Patisserie so much that I had breakfast here 3 days in a row. They have such an amazing assortment of pastries and breakfast items. The first day I had the avocado toast ($16). It was so beautiful. It had grain bread, smashed avocado, pickled red onion, cucumber, micro greens, cherry tomato, French feta, and I added on a soft boiled egg. ($4). I loved it. The second day I had the Mushroom Toast. ($16.75). It had sourdough bread, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, spinach, hollandaise sauce and red wine sauce. It was savory and filling. Lastly the croissant sandwich is ($17) an amazing breakfast. I loved the fried eggs and heirloom tomatoes, red onions and gruyere cheese, topped with hollandaise sauce. The staff was very nice and professional. I like the indoor and outdoor seating areas. Overall a lovely place to start your morning.

Yelp
If I lived near this place, i would be poor and fat. The dessert case is pregnant with mouthwatering options. Like works of art, they are meticulously constructed, with exciting flavor profiles. They run a bit more money than the average confection. However, its easy to see why, and as soon as you taste them, you are reaffirmed. I got the olive oil citrus cake slice. It was heaven, I wiggled and almost danced in joy. The delicate chocolate coating, the layers of citrus filling, creamy topping, and candied fruit adorning it like jewels, and the pop of rosemary to take the flavors to another level. It was one of the best desserts I have ever had. I ordered the veg parmesean quiche, not realizing I was about to have my taste buds blown away yet again. I dont know if I have ever had a quiche have such a custardy texture while still having an external carmalized and crusty exterior. The acidity of the perfectly blistered tomatoes, and the gem salad that was dressed in a way where every bite had flavor without becoming too soggy, made this a symphony of flavors. It was an overcast morning, and we were one of three couples with babies taking advantage of the outdoor seating. It is directly across from a historical building as well, and the street in general has a lot of fun character. I will 100 percent make it back if I visit the area again.

Yelp
Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: Soo glad we came here - the brunch dishes we got were so unique and flavorful! We ordered the blue crab crepe that came with potatoes and the lemon ricotta cheese blintz. The blue crab paired perfectly with the hollandaise sauce, and the crepe was the right amount of thickness and chewiness. I normally find sweet breakfast options overly sugary, but I loved how the blintz was not too sweet. Would come here again if in the area!

Yelp
Alessia is so good! I love their setting in downtown Santa Barbara. They have a fair amount of outdoor seating but also offer indoor options. They're always busy but it's worth the wait if there's a line! I recently tried the turkey and Brie sandwich, which I can't recommend enough. My husband loved the roast beef. The pastries are like works of art. So fun to look at that you almost don't want to eat them and ruin the artwork!

Yelp
A bit off the main State Street lies this beautiful, quality patisserie. The place has a modern luxurious feel while the display of baked goods are just a sight to mesmerize in. 1. Blackberry Cheesecake (5/5) Slightly tart, not too sweet at all, and the cookie/biscuit at the bottom is to die for. The combination of flavors was perfect. Imagine your taste buds dancing to the blossoming for flavors. 2. Matcha, Yuzu, Raspberry Choux (5/5) This reminds me of eating a matcha cream puff. Again, the balance of flavor was Ace'd. They really know how to combine the flavors to make them complement each other. Extra star for it not being too rich or sweet. 3. Matcha Shortcake (4/5) Good matcha flavor, moist, but very dense. The outside edges were a bit dry, but the center parts are good. 4. Maple Glazed Bacon Croissant (5/5) What's there not to like?? A crispy, buttery croissant with a good slice of rich bacon in the middle. Super mouthwatering. They also serve coffee, which I will have to return to try. You can buy wine and coffee beans as well. This will be my go-to patisserie for sweet treats when I am in SB.

Yelp
A great array of French patisserie items. Good service and an excellent avocado toast. Skip the egg and instead add their mushroom and that way you make it all plant based in Vegan . It's kind of the only vegan item but it's definitely worth it while my family indulge in the other items. One of the most chocolatey, well-balanced, chocolate chips, sea salt, cookies. Coffee is fine, though they still charged for nondairy milk, and their chocolate mix has dairy in it

Yelp
We passed through Santa Barbara and decided to stop for brunch at this highly rated French bakery and cafe. It's located near Santa Barbara city center in the middle several interesting historical spots. We had the Avocado Toast, it was beautifully served and was very delicious. We also had the French Brest, it was excellent. We had our puppy with us so we sat outside, the outdoor tables were clean and comfortable. Parking across the store, $5 for 2-hours. There was a person checking validation for each car while we got there.

Yelp
Took a quick stop through SB and let me say these were the BEST croissants we've ever had. The Everything smoked salmon croissant with dill cream cheese and cucumbers is to die for. The baklava croissant did not disappoint either. Super cute spot, fast service - highly recommend.

Yelp
This place makes me want to relocate to Santa Barbara. The pastry case had so many amazing things to choose from! Their kouighn amanns are just as delicious as they look. I also enjoyed their cheddar bacon scone. The mushroom toast was good as was the gone bananas and duck confit hash. You really just can't go wrong here. This is a MUST if you are in the area. Next time I want to try the quiche. Someone at the table next to me ordered that and it looked AMAZING.

Yelp
This place was great! A ton of baked goods selection plus a full breakfast menu too. We grabbed the morning bun and the ham and cheese danish, and first thing first... They were huge! Glad I didn't get anything else, this was perfect to split with my husband who I've lovingly nicknamed The Dyson since he eats anything and everything I can't finish. Anywho, the morning bun had a lovely orange zest to it, my kid devoured it. Ham and cheese danish was super good too, a good amount of ham too. My chai latte was the best here from our trip, and they have lots of indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
I was in the mood for brunch in Santa Barbara. So I hopped on the Amtrak for the 2-hour one way journey to Alessia Patisserie and Bakery. There is a European flair when you walk in. White colored seating and tables with white cloth and napkins. There is soft French music in the background. I was interested at trying an item each from the patesserie and the cafe. So I started out with the Blue Crab Crepe and to accompany, chose chips instead of salad. The two crepes were rolled like Taquitos, had flavor, taste and texture. The added lemon hollandaise was not over powering. But the chips were a disappointment. I was told they were from a bag and they were not crisp at all. For the sweet side, I chose the Pistachio Rose Marzipan Loaf. It looked good, had fragrance, but was dry. No way was it made fresh that day (as I was told before orderingI). Therefore, only enjoyed bites from the outer parts of the loaf slice. When the server asked how it was, I stated the fact. They must have remembered because when it was time to leave, I was presented with a complimentary slice of their Signature Candy Bar. This is from the pastry case and if I read the price right when I had walked in, it was $15. It is a rich concoction, not too sweet, and tastefully assembled. A little too much for me. Service was excellent.

Yelp
I ordered the dark chocolate raspberry croissant, regular butter croissant, fruit tart, matcha latte and iced coffee. The dark chocolate raspberry croissant was delicious - I ate it all by myself which might be a bit much lol. However, the butter croissant and fruit tart were not special in my opinion. I've definitely had better, less expensive fruit tarts. The matcha latte was very bitter (and that's coming from someone who likes a strong match) I unfortunately couldn't drink it on the road and had to wait until I got home so I would water it down with some milk. Came here on a weekend and there was a long line. For the prices, I expected to be blown away by the pastries and unfortunately I was not.

Yelp
Saw that this place had good reviews when wandering around and was happy with our choice. It's only 15ish min walk from the train station. I got the duck confit hash and my friend the avocado toast. The plating was so gorgeous and the food itself tasted great. Service was friendly and the food came out pretty quick.

Yelp
We were passing through Santa Barbara and we had to try this cute little bakery. I got a macaron and baklava croissant. All the pastries looked perfect but I decided to go with the baklava croissant since I've never seen anything like it. The croissant was light and fluffy with a delicious filling and glaze. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and minimal parking. Everyone was welcoming and the service was quick.

Yelp
Absolutely fell in love with Alessia's!!!! Right in front of beautiful El Presidio, makes for the perfect location. We went in close to noon so we were able to enjoy both breakfast and lunch options. Their vanilla lattes were a great start and then I dived in to my breakfast sandwich. It was definitely filling but oh so yummy! I did wish my bacon was a little more cooked but it did not stop me from devouring it! I was able to get a taste of my sons Gone Bananas which is similar to French toast on brioche. Omg was that addicting! Definitely suggest that plate if you want something sweet. The brûlée'd bananas were absolute perfection! Service was amazing and definitely will be back to take a look at their amazing options in bakery.

Yelp
Great bakery to pick up something to bite before heading next door to Handlebar for the best coffee. Shop is a feast for the eyes with a cute setup and cute items:) Went for the max with the specials: pistachio croissant, raspberry croissant. And for the chocolate for the kid. Kinda pricey for the special ones, but I guess they do involve more with the coating and the fillings. And these things are quite huge and dense! You are not paying for air here, lol. I enjoyed my pistachio one, the coating was like how a chocolate coating would be. The filling was light and great flavor. Croissant had good chewy dense texture. Wife ate up her raspberry one. I had a piece, but I much prefer the pistachio over the raspberry filling, since I don't like fruit jam type of things, but that's just me. Chocolate was the size of my boy's head, but he managed to finish it up somehow. With these being so huge and dense, I think 2 items for 3 person would be good enough to have with coffee:) The special croissants are indeed special in the novelty of it, but not sure if I would get it again over the basics like plain, almond, choco, prepared the simpler classic way from Renaud's that originally won us over as the croissants to order while at Handlebar. Maybe grab me a pistachio here again to enjoy the coating and filling, and get me the classic almond and choco Renauds sold at Handlebar. That said, it seemed most of the people in line were there for the breakfast seating. Maybe the food served here is special too.

Yelp
If you can, go first thing in the morning when everything is available. Yes, it makes it harder to make decision but it is so beautiful! And everything I have had here is wonderful. This morning was an almond croissant, a brown butter berry mini cake and pistachio marzipan rose cake. Each one was amazing. The croissant was flaky and buttery with plenty of almond. I have dined here for lunch also and that was terrific too

Yelp
I purchased 2 butter croissants and some fancy desserts. While waiting for the hubby to pick me up, I took a bite of the croissant. It was divine. I contemplated getting back in line for more croissants or being a good girl and waiting at the curb for my ride. I ended up back in line to buy two more croissants.

Yelp
Probably the best breakfast I've had in a long time! After my first visit, I had to come back for breakfast and it was amazing. A very busy weekend spot, we were able to get a table inside with full service. You can also order at the counter where you'll see a display of the most delicious and beautiful pastries. I ordered the Croissant Sandwich without cheese and added salmon for an extra $4. The croissant sandwich included smoked salmon, a fried egg, heirloom tomatoes, and onions, topped with hollandaise sauce I opted for a side salad, which consisted of butter lettuce that was so fresh. I highly recommend this sandwich. The croissant was crispy on the outside and the fresh local ingredient were beyond delicious. Also ordered was the Breakfast Sandwich with bacon and no gruye. The sandwich included a fried egg, bacon, heirloom tomatoes, onions, and mushrooms, on brioche bread. Also delicious and the mushrooms were so good. We also took home a variety of pastries. A bit pricey, but so good.

Yelp
Amazing brunch. love the pastries. They are worth the price. My friend swears they have the best ham and cheese croissant he's ever had (he's had a lot.) My other friend adores their pistachio croissant. I love their cakes. Love this spot!

Yelp
Insane croissants. Works of art and just as tasty. Best Croquet Monsieur of my life.

Yelp
5+++ I ordered the french toast. My friend ordered the quiche. Both were delightful. This place is top notch. Great service. Short wait time. Ambiance is peaceful. Everything is just so pretty!

Yelp
Insanely delightful pastries, cute decor, and really good lunch. The roasted chicken salad along with the French onion soup was perfection. Service was excellent as well.

Yelp
Staff is super friendly and helpful. Food looks and tastes great but sad the croissants we wanted weren't there (i think they said something about it not being made that day....?) Also, we went on a Sunday so parking was easier but I believe it would be crazier during the week or even Saturday.
google avatar

Phoebe C.

Yelp
Amazing pastries and food here! The pastries are so soft, flaky on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The french onion soup was a delight! Very savory, light and very filling. It comes with a side choice of salad (has a tasty, light dressing) or a grilled cheese with caramelized onions perfect for dipping. The service was a bit slow, but it was a busy Saturday morning. However, the waiters were very nice and lovely. Perfect outside seating and inside is cute too. Highly recommend this place for a good brunch.

Yelp
Alessia Patisserie & Café is the place you want to bookmark if you're looking for European style pastries. I love coming here whenever I get a craving for a croissant. The croissants are light, flaky and always delicious. My go to lately has been the maple bacon croissant, which has the perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness from the maple bacon combo. I love this one so much! I recently tried the pistachio croissant, which by the way is such a beautiful creation for a croissant. After letting my phone eat first; I proceeded to tear it apart so I could get to the pistachio cream inside. It was a messy job, but when you're a dedicated foodie, then you will do what you have to do in order to share it on Yelp lol. The pistachio cream was so good! It wasn't overly sweet and had the right amount of pistachio flavor coming from the paste they fold into the cream. I've also tried their mushroom toast when they first opened; which was kind of pricey but a girl has to treat herself once in awhile right? I love mushrooms and I can be picky about how they are cooked, but these were perfectly brown and had a slight crisp. Served along with the scrambled eggs, bacon, spinach and topped with a creamy hollandaise. It was a savory piece of toast and one that I devoured. The most important thing to know when coming here is there are two sides to this café. One side is dedicated for "To Go" orders, and the other is dine-in with the rule of ordering from the menu. There is a parklet located outside, with ample seating if it's not too busy. Narrowing down what to order will be the hardest decision you'll ever make, because everything looks amazing here. Behind the glass display you will find a wide range of pastries, cookies and the most beautiful desserts you have ever laid your eyes on! Overall, this café is a place I like to visit whenever I'm craving a croissant and a great tasting cup of coffee. The customer service is kind of hit or miss. There have been times where I felt rushed when ordering to go, and I would love to see more friendlier service with smiles.

Yelp
I decided to have a weekend getaway in Santa Barbara before a work conference in LA. As you can see from my previous review, the owner reached out to me and invited me back. I ordered the duck confit hash and it was so delicious and satisfying. I love cutting into a poached egg and see the yolk run, and it did just that. The silky texture of the yolk with the crispy, charred bits of duck meat plus the fluffiness of the potatoes was the perfect bite. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. I also got a side of potatoes, which stupid me forgot that the hash is comprised of potatoes. But I enjoyed them, especially because they came with roasted tomatoes which added the acidity I needed. I also enjoyed an almond croissant and a chocolate hazelnut croissant. The pastries here are out of this world! You can't go wrong with whichever one you choose. For me, it's FOMO because I want just want to try all of them. If I still lived here, I know I would get a pastry a day to try all of them. I really enjoyed sitting inside, especially because it was a hot day. The seats are very comfortable. And the staff are extremely friendly. My friend who grew up in SB and still lives here joined me. We hadn't seen each other in years and so enjoying my time with her over delicious food was a joyous occasion. She surprisingly had never been to Alessia's and wants to come back, especially with friends from out of town. She loves quiches and enjoyed hers. I want to thank Alessia's for a wonderful time. I will be coming back here whenever I'm in Santa Barbara.

Yelp
If you are interested in find European pastries and delicate French gateaux, Alessia Patisserie and Cafe is the right place. During  my family vacation in Santa Barbara, we went twice on two consecutive days. I hope we had more time, so we could stop there more than twice. It is located across from the historic El Presidio. The ambiance was classy and vibrant. The hostesses were very nice and friendly. They gave us the menu to place our order first, pay, then we got a number for one of the available tables. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We preferred to have our breakfast outside and enjoy this spectacular location. They have a scrumptious and  wide selection of croissants, cakes, and pastries. In our first visit, we ordered: -Baklava croissant -White chocolate mango croissant -Gianduja croissant -Croque Monsieur The Croque Monsieur was the BEST! It was  scrumptious and savory, and very flavorful. The portion was also huge. The croissants were very flaky, fresh and really delicious. Everything was exquisite! For the second visit, we ordered; -Lychee eclaire -Limoncello -Exotic fruit cake -Honey blueberry almond tart -Brown sugar shortbread cookies -Coffe with milk -Regular coffee My #1 favorite was Limoncello, followed by the honey blueberry almond tart, lychee eclaire, then lastly the exotic fruit cake. The best high quality decadent cake!!! We enjoyed every bite. The service was top notch. From my perspective, this is the best patisserie I have visited so far in California. Alessia patisserie is such a wonderful place to visit while you are in Santa Barbara . Enjoy  the ambience of the place and admire the delicacy of their culinary. Definitely, I will go back to try more from their decadent menu

Yelp
I enjoyed my breakfast this morning. I had the breakfast croissant which was really flaky and it had mustard seed inside which was really yummy. I also enjoyed the breakfast potatoes . The French toast was also good. I loved the blackberries on top and the cool whip they make to put on top. The service was good too. We did have to wait a bit to get indoor seating because it was cold outside.

Patrick E.

Yelp
Always a good experience. Food is excellent with attention to details. A mix between French and American cuisine that works for me. Pâtisseries are super French! Strongly suggest for lunch

Yelp
A bit pricey, but when paying for quality, I'm always agreeable to that. I read that the owner/pastry chef studied under the great Thomas Keller, so I assumed she was going to churn out some beautiful pastries... and that, she did. They all looked beautiful, but we decided on 4 items to try (at home). One was a Christmas tree (we were there during the holiday season). Another was a lemon raspberry tart. A third item was something else with limoncello (we love lemon things), and the 4th item was something along the lines of the chef's version of a chocolate candy bar. As you can see from the photos, the pastries are gorgeous. Perfection in every piece. Not to mention, decadent. They were so rich, I could only eat a spoonful or two of each, but they were amazingly delicious. The finest quality chocolate, cream, butter, and whatever else she put in them. Gorgeous and delicious !! Our favorite of the four was the lemon raspberry tart. Surprisingly, my least favorite was the chocolate bar. It was actually too rich for me... chocolate overload, and I never thought those words would come out of me. The pastries we had brought home, but we did eat lunch at the restaurant. My husband ordered their tomato bisque and 1/2 grilled cheese, while I ordered their smoked salmon and bagel plate. We were both dismayed at the grilled cheese. Not only was it just a half sandwich, which, okay, it stated that on the menu, but it was a VERY TINY half sandwich. The amount of soup was okay, not to mention, it was downright delicious, but the sandwich part was ridiculous. They should've offered two halves of that size or at least one much larger "half," but what he got was one puny half of a sandwich. That is the reason for one star off of my rating; there's no excuse for that. My smoked salmon plate was quite good, and they didn't skimp on anything there. Nice touch with the dill-infused cream cheese. I also loved the heirloom tomato... I don't get that too often. The plate presentation was actually very pretty, not to mention, tasty. We went on a weekday, which is definitely the time to go because we have tried on a number of weekends only to find lines wrapped around the corner, and even worse, no parking anywhere. I'm so glad we finally got to try this place.

Yelp
We had breakfast at Alessia Patisserie & Cafe on the last Saturday of 2023. We went before 9:00 with a large, unwieldy party--six adults and four children under four. It was naive of us to think we might sit together, or even have an easy time sitting at all. The place was small and busy, with a line out the door when we arrived, even on a wet, gloomy day. In retrospect, it might have been smart to send one or two parents to do a pick-up order, but since we were there, we decided to make the best of it. We had to split up, of course, each family finding its own perch. I'm not sure the cafe is set up for large parties even at less than full capacity. Our family messed up and waited in line to order pastries then sat down in the dining area to order off the menu and eat. Apparently the bakery and cafe are supposed to be separate, and we should have sat and ordered everything from our waiter. She was gracious about it, though, and we just kind of double tipped on our bakery items. I didn't love the crowd and confusion, I guess, but the place was otherwise charming, and service was friendly and fast on both the bakery and cafe sides. There was no room for a high chair, unfortunately, but our baby did pretty well wedged between me and the corner of our little banquette table, especially when I kept him occupied with food. He and I shared a tomato pesto danish and a salmon board, and we greatly enjoyed them both. I prefer savory food for breakfast, even when I'm eating pastries, and the danish was lovely. My husband and older son also liked their plain and chocolate croissants--Alessia does excellent pastries, hence that long line. The salmon board was also delicious, with smoked salmon, heirloom tomato, red onion, cornichons, capers, dill cream cheese, Maldon salt, and a Jack's everything bagel (I think it must have come from Jack's Bistro in Carpinteria). I'd recommend Alessia if you want quality pastries and cafe fare in Santa Barbara. I'm sure we'll be back before long, though next time, we'll probably take our food to go.

Yelp
I am a pastry lover! I visited all different cities and places to find the best pastry. So far, I think this is for sure one of the good ones. I give them a solid 4 stars. Good croissant! A bit more the bread side. Other pastry sweet items are good! Service is nice! Price is reasonable. Good location because the famous court is just next to this place. You can park there and buy a pastry and eat on the grass area in the court. Very clean and well maintained! Love it

Yelp
The most Delicious pastries! They have a variety of different pastries. I was amazed at how the pastries and cakes looked like they were created for a photo shoot in a magazine. The pastries are so good! I just can't get enough of those crispy, buttery and definitely taste the flaky layers that make croissants from here amazing! My favorite is the chocolate croissant. But you can't go wrong with anything. There's also an assortment of other baked goodies. The staff here are all very nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend them, this is a great location!

Yelp
5 stars for all the excellent takeout pastries _apricot danish: custard and apricot were a perfect match _gianduja croissant: rich and decadent _almond croissant: an excellent bite of textures and not too sweet _pain au chocolat: simple, delicious, perfect flaky layers, with very nice dark chocolate inside - - When you arrive at the front door of the bakery you will be met by a dragon lady in an apron staring you down for several awkward seconds before being able to successfully pass through to the next level To your left a delightful case of pastries await you. However chaos ensues under the bright fluorescent lights and noise as you wonder how you will make it to the last level before your escape You are handed your goods in an odd pairing of a white paper bag and a small gift box for a single croissant. Likely only one of the 4 pastries you selected are worthy of such a box, the rest are disposable to possible damage in your travels home. Make sure to take great care of your bag of goodies You are finally released back into the world and you wonder what odd trauma you experienced in being subjected to Polly Pocket's world for adults Rehousing your pastries at home you forget all your troubles as you bite into the flaky goodness of Alessia Pastries with a dark cup of coffee. Drifting into peace, a sense of well being passes over you

Yelp
Beautiful bakery with great looking desserts. However their high tea option is one you can skip. You have to reserve beforehand which is not uncommon for high tea services however you also have to pay and tip beforehand as well. Definitely on the pricier side for high teas. They have 4 different tea options which the teas were delicious. However, it is served in a mug and they will come and pour your tea( they don't leave the teapot) which I'm assuming it's to keep in nice and hot. The sandwiches were great and I loved the quiche. The scones were good but just a small portion compared to scones elsewhere. The desserts were beautiful just be aware that almost all of them are all mousse centers. They were good just a lot of mousse gets a little underwhelming. Overall a nice tea time just not as traditional as most high tea places.

Yelp
We were visiting from San Diego and we made sure to check out this cafe before leaving. So many cute pastries to choose from. Ordered the dark chocolate raspberry croissant and it was really good and sweet! The dark chocolate balances the sweetness. Very huge and airy too.

Yelp
We came back to Alessia for brunch today. It was pretty busy and their coffee machine was broken. However we really enjoyed our brunch. The Danish was very flaky and crunchy and unlike any Danish whe had. Usually the danishes or more bread like. My husband really enjoy his croissant sandwich.

Yelp
Small café, with a weird order and sit combination. Firstly, you get greeted by someone outside the café asking if you're ordering a take out order or want to dine in. We were dining in. We told her we were going to be dining in and she told us "You are number 1 and will be seated there by the window. I'll place your number on the counter while you order." mmm okay. I feel like the system could be better, but that's just me. I'm forgetful so what if I got a more complicated number and forgot? Anyways... the pastries and café are gorgeous. The pasties look and taste so beautifully. We ordered a banana bread: I don't typically like banana bread, but this one was sent from the gods man. It was extremely dense, moist, and packed with flavor. croissant: mmm buttery goodness that paired nicely with my eggs. a side of over medium eggs, potatoes, and tomatoes: my partner absolutely loved their potatoes. They tasted so much like rosemary. I wasn't a huge fan, but they were cooked perfectly. Crunchy yet soft. My eggs were seasoned so well that I must know what they put in or on them. Pls I beg! french toast with berries: the berries were super sweet, the toast itself had so much cinnamon! My god... i was in cinnamon heaven. It wasn't overwhelming by any means. I just know they were not shy from the cinnamon, and that's something I simply admire as a cinnamon lover. caramel latte: not a big fan, and definitely not worth trying. Especially for the price. Do yourself the favor and grab coffee elsewhere, or simply enjoy some water.

Yelp
This bakery has some delicious items but unfortunately for me I can no longer afford it.The lovely ricotta filled Danish now costs $10.00 and with their medium sized cups of coffee at $3.50, plus tip . Santa Barbara can support a fine bakery like this, and there is a place for a high end bakery. Check out the famous ricotta filled Danish, with a fried zucchini blossom on top, it is something special .

Yelp
My favorite bakery by far. I've bought croissants from Alessia regularly and also ordered desserts for a fundraiser. I never really understand the seating when I go, but thankfully I usually am ordering items to-go.

Yelp
We went to Alessia Patisserie on a Thursday around 2pm, and there was no wait! The interior was very clean and decorated elegantly, and there was still a good amount of beautiful pastries left. Not to mention, the restaurant was by the beach, so the weather was cool and relaxing. The workers were friendly and greeted us kindly. We ordered the mint chocolate croissant and the pistachio-rose loaf cake. Both pastries were almost too pretty to eat. We've rarely seen mint chocolate flavored pastries, so we jumped on the opportunity to get the croissant -- it did not disappoint! The exterior of the croissant was the perfect color and was flaky and buttery, all that you'd want in a perfect croissant. The unique mint flavor was very prominent in the interior cream of the croissant. It was one of the most memorable croissants we've eaten. The pistachio-rose loaf cake had a delicious pistachio icing; its harder texture was a great addition to the softness of the loaf. The loaf was the perfect sweetness level, and the rose petals were a great complement to the pistachio flavor. It was absolutely delectable. Alessia Patisserie is a must try! With such unique pastries and amazing presentations, we would love to come back and try more!

Yelp
What a treat off State St when vacationing in SB (or if you just live here if you're that fortunate)! The pastry cases look absolutely divine. The tallest morning bun I'd ever seen. Honestly all the croissants were enormous with serious poof. We tried the baklava croissant, maple bacon croissant, and guava cheese danish. All great. A bit pricey for some of the specialty croissants ($8) but otherwise seems on par with fancier bakeries. Staff was really patient helping me decide and the breakfast coming out of the kitchen looked really good too. Beautiful clean bright spacious cafe.

Yelp
Awesome spot for breakfast. Tried the granola with fresh fruit and it was delicious as well as filling. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Desserts and Crossiants are beyond yummy. Candy was our waitress and she made the experience that much better. Would definitely come again.

Yelp
The pastries and desserts here are works of art! I met my friend for lunch and the Turkey Brie sandwich was delicious! My Friend had the mushroom sandwich and she loved it too. Would totally recommend this place!

Yelp
HANDS DOWN one of my favorite SB spots! There is so much love put into their product as evidenced by their attention to detail, presentation, flavor, quality products, outstanding service. The cafe is beautiful and welcoming; has a Paris meets So Cal vibe... beautiful decor. The outdoor seating is perfect for enjoying a treat and coffee (amazing) before a walk or just enjoying the surroundings. I would highly suggest following them on IG as they feature a lot of their menu items and also announce some of the private events / tastings they do that you can buy tickets for. I know sugar is much more appealing but don't forget their food is also amazing! Their quiche is one of the best I've had in the 805. They also have baked breads (Challah!) and treats to go. Their desserts are so great to give as gifts (even though I have a hard time letting the box go). My favorite time to go is 12:30/1pm as I have a low tolerance for long lines, which they usually have at earlier hours (is this not a sign of something good?!). Parking can be difficult so plan accordingly. Alessia is an absolute must! You'll love it! A little pricey but WORTH IT! Trust me!

Yelp
Wow! Was not expecting to like brunch this much! It's rare to find a cute place, with pretty food, that is also unique in its use of ingredients and still manages to be tasty. Alessia is that place. Not only is it cute inside, comfy on the patio, you get a great view of the presidio across the street! Their food options consist of order and go pastries. Of these, I tried the squash blossom cheese puff pasty. Super tasty! Typically the puff pastry tends to get a little less than crispy from sitting out. Here, the pastry is perfectly crispy. Would love it if they warmed it up! They also have a beautiful selection of mostly mousse based desserts. There was a raspberry yuzu dessert and a lemon dessert. Both were amazing when combined with each other! Also had the duck confit benedict!! This was unexpected and delightful. Potatoes were beautifully seasoned as was the benedict sauce. I think I liked the squash blossom puff pastry better, but everything was great! Will definitely be back again if I need brunch in Santa Barbara!
