Craft cocktails, live music, and LGBTQ+ advocacy

"The intimate, cozy, yet no-frills Alexandre’s offers craft cocktails of its own design, such as the Clover Club (a gin, raspberry, and egg white concoction), plus classic drinks like Vespers and Pisco Sours. Consider the food menu elevated bar fare, with fun features like the Chick-full-gAy chicken sandwich — a menu staple that started off as a Sunday special poking fun at fast food chain Chick-fil-A. Owner Lee Daugherty encourages his guests to support important causes and opens the bar’s stage to local singers and musicians to showcase their talents. Bargoers can attend events almost any night of the week, including open mics for comedians, karaoke and sing-alongs, cabaret acts, and more." - Alex Gonzalez

"It’s been Pride Month for about 19 years at Alexandre’s in Cedar Springs but for those who haven’t stopped in yet, it’s a great place for a cocktail, brunch, a sammie, and to see live music." - Courtney E. Smith

"A central figure in Dallas’ LGBTQ community, this intimate Oak Lawn bar and music venue pours classic cocktails, spotlights local singers, and hosts Sunday Cher-e-oke (Cher-themed karaoke)." - Courtney E. Smith, Kevin Gray

"I keep noticing the different ways the team at Alexandre’s uses its menu to make political statements that need to be made about the LGBT+ community and equality." - Courtney E. Smith

"In Oak Lawn I visited Alexandre’s, a cozy gay bar on the Cedar Springs strip that debuted a tongue-in-cheek “Chick-full-gay” fried chicken sandwich just in time for Pride in Dallas on September 18. Chef Sharina Hassell created the sandwich—a pickled-brined chicken breast breaded with a secret, pepper-forward recipe that yields a panko-like texture and a lightly sweet finish—topped with two crinkle-cut pickles and a smear of mayo on both buns (cheekily captioned on Instagram as “our pickles touch”). Packaged in a bag with a rainbow sticker, the sandwiches were sold to parade marchers as part of Hassell’s effort “to reclaim something for our community,” and they’re now set to become a regular special available only on Sundays (the day “the Lord and Chik-fil-A rest”). Hassell, who has boycotted the chain she was referencing for years, says the sandwich was made so people can get their chicken fix and feel good about it, and she’s considering pairing it with wrinkle or waffle fries or adding a secret sauce in the future." - Courtney E.
