Burger King’s Latest Ghost Whopper Has a White-Cheddar Bun | Eater

"A notoriously haunted Los Angeles hotel that was used as the centerpiece of a Burger King Halloween ad; the chain claimed a professional medium, Riz Mirza, contacted ghosts there to sample the promotional 'Ghost Whopper.' In the stunt most of the purported spirits reportedly liked the burger, though one ghost called it "filth." The campaign relies on the property's spooky reputation as a publicity hook rather than any real connection between the hotel and the product." - Jaya Saxena

Can't leave your laundry for a second by its self without someone stilling it. They do not help you recover your belongings. It's coach infested and I'm a very clean person

Google
old and dated hotel which has even shadier practice of hosting events and groups that promote hate speech and genocide . No safety on 2nd door window as the hate mongers threw drinks on the people below. Hotel staff's response to this was to put black curtain up in front door so we can't see them which made no sense.

I have lived here for 1 year and 1 month. I am on a fixed income. I really like living here. Everything is centrally located. My single is small, currently on the waiting list for a 1 bedroom. The building is historic dating back to 1906....Many people mention problems with roaches..If you don't want roaches..keep your apt. Clean, don't leave dirty dishes in the sink overnight..and have a regiment where you spray regularly for bugs. I do this once a week with black Flag.. If you drop food on the Floor . Clean it up. I have no problems with bugs. The people who live here are very eclectic and come from many walks of life, Deal with it! Building has great maintenance staff..Things are fixed immediately. Great cleaning staff that clean every floor daily. The one negative. Pershing Square Metro Station is half a block away..there is some homeless traffic between the subway station to the homeless encampments down on Skid Row. I don't bother them and they don't bother me! Many people have mention that they don't allow homeless people in the building as a negative. 24 hour security is doing a great job! If you don't live here, you have no business being here!

The rooms are quite small like an SRO (single room occupancy) they call a studio 🤓 Anyway, the halls leading to the rooms are narrow, the kitchenette is just a sink and cupboard. It does have its own restroom w/shower, no tub. It is filled with all kinds of people who walk to the beat of a different drum (if you get my drift) coming out of the elevator is pretty quiet until night falls. Security is tough so be calm cool and collective.

Google
I liked it at first but over the weekend of New year's I was robbed security has cameras facing my door my Roku was taken and a big black basket with other items in it but claims it couldn't be seen on camera. Since then management has changed to a new company and security company changed. My mental health is not good due to thinking someone has been here when I leave. I wasn't offered a different place at their other properties or lock change. This building has Lamp mental health clients here and another program people here need supportive housing it's very clean in the hallways. And not a lot of activity as was 20 yrs.ago. but the loud music in front at night is disturbing.

Lived her in 2002. Was a very interesting place. The amazing ballroom they have hosted the Academy Awards way back in the early 1930’s I was told.

This is an amazing place, full of wonder, constant reminders of the past. Just to be part of the wonder, the magic it is here if you just be still. You can feel the past walk beside you. The most important part of living here is the staff, from office, cleaning, maintenance the friendliness is the same

I was greeted with a courteous staff immediately upon my entrance. In the management / leasing office Ms. Jahmean was most accommodating, polite, and attentive in assisting with getting my necessary documents together. Above ALL, her customer service was absolutely impeccable. The Rosslyn Lofts need to learn proper business etiquette from the Alexandria. I've worked in retail sales management for 25+ years, & any business doesn't turn customers away but Rosslyn Lofts did... don't waste your time.

Yelp
I worked as a computer consultant at this grand old hotel. The manager at the time was a man named Roger Birdseye. He used to toss a fist full of nickels into the alley just to watch the bums fight! Back then in the mid 80's, there was a Mexican restaurant called Mi Tierra that served the best shrimp soup I've ever had in my life and the place with frequented by fight fans because the walls were covered with black velvet paintings of Mexican boxes talk about atmosphere. It was a lot of fun.!

Yelp
Nice staff and beautiful old building. It's downtown so if you plan on living there, you may encounter roaches and/or rats but management is always open to treating the issue.

Yelp
We have done several events at the Alexandria Hotel. The last one was a red velvet drapery for awards event. The staff are awesome and super helpful. We are always impressed with how the decor turns out and further impressed with how the event goer is so happy. It has truly been wonderful working events there. We can't wait to put on more. Yelp
Lived here for 3 months until my studio was infested with bedbugs. Would not recommend this building to my worst enemy - the bug problem was the worst problem, but not the only problem.

Yelp
I used to work around the area in the 90s. A lot of suicides and dead bodies in that place. It was a beautiful shithole. One time the fire dept had to remove a 2 week old dead body from a bathtub. A 300 pound lady croaked in the tub and the dead body soup was overflowing and leaking into the below apartment.

Yelp
Recently, I moved into the Alexandria Hotel and the experience has been very positive. I like the unique mix of residents from all walks of life including the formerly homeless residents who worked hard to reemerge and obtain housing. The building is maintained extremely well and I appreciate the historic value that this building offers. My first experience with the Alexandria Hotel was dealing with Romeo, a Manager who facilitates the application and intake procedure. He was professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and kind. He made the application process easy by fielding my barrage of questions, meticulously explaining the documentation required to be considered for residency and maintaining excellent phone correspondence. The staff who work in the management office were equally professional and the security guards are very respectful towards residents. My first impression of my room at the Alexandria was that it was immaculate . Very well maintained and a staff that takes their work seriously. The room that I moved into was freshly painted, clean, and everything worked extremely well. The building as a whole is also very clean and I don't agree with some of the negative remarks that some of the other Yelp users posted. The Alexandria is progressive in the sense that it welcomes all to be considered for residency. As an individual who was formally homeless and went through the Weingart Center, I am grateful that I had an opportunity to secure housing in an iconic building with an atmosphere that is friendly and warm.

Yelp
Updating this after reading the Susie and Sara's review. This place is nowhere 5 stars. I can understand that they are trying to clean the building as much as they can but this place is constantly filthy. Management is in charge of the tenants and are not taking any actions against the ones degrading the building (trash/dog waste) Security in this building is a joke. Most of them are either on their phone, playing music or hanging right outside the building if not playing with the security cams. I once had someone asked me if they could sleep in my apt cause their "friend" wasn't answering the door. I mean wtf right?

Yelp
I came here to check out Garrett Morris' Comedy club (here every Thurs- Sat nights) and I was actually surprised to see that the Alexandria is an apartment for tenants. This hotel, to be honest, looks kind of like a dump. It is old and a bit run downed. Since the comedy club was only on the 2nd floor, I just walked up the stairs to the ballroom it was held in (thank goodness, especially after reading several previous yelpers complain of seeing roaches in the elevators and trash cans). During the comedy show, 1 comedian had mentioned (as a joke) where she has performed in so far, including gay cruises, Comedy Central, etc and also "the shinning" (which she was referring to the Alexandria Hotel) because the hotel just kind of gave off that movie creepy/ scary location. This comedian also mentioned that the audience was probably breathing in asbestos too, lol. I feel bad for the residents that live in the hotel because the comedy club was pretty loud with the blues band that was preforming and there was a DJ and plenty of room to move and groove after the comedy show was over. I am pretty sure that even though the ballroom was quite a distance from the rooms, tenants still probably heard the noise that was coming from it (which makes me incredibly happy that I do not live here). The ballroom itself that the comedy club was in was a pretty big space that looked nice. The chairs had some padding and the room itself was decorated just fine for a comedy club (with dimmed lights, candles and such). I personally would not live here because this place looks dumpy and it's not exactly in the best part of downtown LA. Also would not like to hear nightly music/ shows every weekend.

Yelp
I have lived here at the Alexandria Apts. for a couple of years already. however, I wanted to give all of you the encounters I personally experienced since residing here. *Maintenance SUCKS! They walk around like they think they know what they are doing but they don't. The head of maintenance (Saul) doesn't know his ass from the hole in the ground. He walks around like some big shot but when there is a job to be done, he pisses and moans like a little girl or gives the excuse, "Oh, we can't take care of your problem now. We have another emergency to take care of." This is their excuse. I have had a leak dripping from the top of my window (on the inside), and after 9 times of maintenance trying to fix it, they only made it worse. And it still hasn't been fixed yet! The mgmt. said they were going to fix it when the weather got nice. Well, it has been over four weeks now into the summer and they still haven't addressed the issue. *A few months ago, another tenant was trying to come into my apt. at three different times trying to use his own keys. When I said "wrong apartment", he relied, "Oh, I am sorry"., wrong apt". BULLSHIT! Not three times in a row at approximately every two weeks around the same time! *Another time, a tenant was banging on my door at 1:30am. I thought it was an emergency so I opened my door a little, and this wacked out drug addict was trying to force his was into my apt. trying to say it was his apartment. *When I first moved in, a leasing agent overcharged me on my move in. At the time, I insisted I was paying the right amount. He disputed the situation with me and insisted I pay another, higher amount. I complied and approx. one year later, the manager at that time Diana, who always treated me great, informed me that i had a certain amount of credit I could use towards my following month's rent. It was the exact same amount of what that previous leasing agent was charging me. And that agent was present at that time. Karma is beautiful! *Recently, the water has been turned off for over 24 hours now, as maintenance is fixing plumbing issues. However, I still do not have water to shower, a backed up toilet, and no running sink water in my bathroom. I am a disabled person, who needs these necessities as many other tenants are facing the same issue. I emailed the manager but still no reply. Understand, that maintenance lives here in the building to and I am sure they have no plumbing issues since they live here "rent-free"! Obviously, maintenance cannot do their jobs and it is high time to bring in someone who does! I am on Section 8 and pay my rent on time as well as being a very quiet tenant that does not cause any trouble. I will say on a positive note, that since I moved into this building, they have really cleaned up the "Riff Raff" with a few here and there polluting the property. Also, Security, David, Will, and Ron are AMAZING! They really are on top of everything. In closing, I love the location as everything is at my fingertips, but if you can avoid living here, please do so. It is not worth the hassle, until they get new maintenance personnel...for starters. Yelp
If bed bugs are what you desire, then look no further! I lost all my furniture to bed bugs, which sucks. My neighbors were crackheads, and I got stuck in the elevator twice. If you don't mind bedbugs, almost every apartment has cockroaches. Noise from the bar outside will keep you up, and if that does not your neighbors fighting will. Management gave me the run around whenever I had an issue, and the water was being turned off at least twice a week. I feel sorry for all the young people who move in, not aware of these issues. I know being downtown is amazing, but no one should have to pay $650-$850 a month for a bug infested box. They raised my rent twice after my lease was up. I love downtown, but this is just a nightmare. http://bedbugger.com/photos-of-bed-bugs-and-signs-of-bed-bugs/ this link is how to see if you have bedbugs..beware!!

Yelp
I moved into the Alexandria about 3 months ago. Fully aware of every review on here, I decided it was cheap, and had a decent location, so, why not? Screw it. Worst. Mistake. Ever. I cannot even begin to stress how supremely wrong I was in thinking that this place couldn't be as bad as everybody said it was. First off, bed bugs. I had never seen one, felt one or actively THOUGHT about one my entire life, all 28 years of it. until I moved in here. Help. It;s the most dreadful thought you can imagine. Having to lay down to a nice colony of parasites each and every night because management's too busy sucking at their job to do anything about it. I am COVERED in welts and my apartment's already been treated. Second, did I mention that MANAGEMENT SUCKS AT THEIR JOB? Yeah, they do. They'll spend their day hanging up ridiculous, mind numbingly misspelled signs, NOT answering their phones, and generally pandering to any and every piece of garbage, crack head that walks in off the street instead of, hmm, I don't know, maybe paying attention to the infested, dirty, loud, smelly, rotting piece of trash building that they so lovingly misrepresent on their website. Third...seriously, HOURS I could go on about this hole, but I want to make sure my words are heard on here, so I'll keep it shortish. PLEASE listen to these reviews and DO NOT give your money, your sanity and your health over to this disaster of a building. I know it's cheap, I know you think you're tough, I know you think we're all exaggerating...trust me, we're not. 3 months down, 3 to go. God help me.

Yelp
I lived in Alexandria for 2 years. As many other folks mentioned: only the location and rent are the only 2 pros. The rest is a nightmare! The place is run by roaches and bedbugs. Every negative review here is 100% true. Incompetent security that can catcall you, this place sticks pretty bad, drug heads, never-working elavators, packages cannot be delivered here, because USPS/UPS workers worried about bedbugs. A lot of shady people hang out outside the 2 entrances. Extremely poor condition of walls, floors and paint. Even laundry machines suck. Trust me, it's one of the worst places in LA. ADVICE: Keep a very accurate track of rent receipts. Management lost my money orders often, including my deposit check. When I moved out, it took million years to get it back and 2 office visits.
google avatar

Yelp
I was lucky enough to not actually live here, this is just based on my experiences talking to a leasing agent. When I moved to LA last year I found these guys through their overabundant spamming of Craigslist (Which they still do, theirs is literally every fourth or fifth housing listing) and because they promised "$600 lofts, all utilities and internet included" and their website looked so pretty, I decided to come check them out. I was kept sitting in the lobby because "I didn't have an appointment and no one could show me around" even though nowhere in their ads or on their website did it say you needed an appointment. They found someone for me about twenty minutes later. I was then told that "They didn't have any more of the $600 apartments left, but they could show me some others" I was shown a 150sf room for $800 a month, then one that was a little bigger that I could have for $950 a month. When I mentioned I had a car I was told that would be an additional $110 a month to park on site. I must have looked surprised because the woman then gave me a snotty "Welcome to Los Angeles" The total bait-and-switch they pulled from their ads to what I was offered, paired with the rather creepy people wandering the entire place and the streets below made me decide to live elsewhere. Based on the other reviews here, I'm glad I did!

Yelp
I'm not sure I like the "A-OK" for three stars. Mediocre might be a better label. Things have improved...some. They have gotten better at keeping the elevators running. We actually had all four operating through the July 4th weekend. A miracle if you ask me. Here's the bad news. Apparently, they have to have a member of the staff baby-sit the boiler for the hot water. If you get up in the middle of the night you'll only get cold water from the hot tap. The reason is that they turn the boiler off at night before the staff leave. This would be solved with (what is likely to be an expensive) temperature pressure valve, but SOMEBODY (hint hint) is too cheap to buy one and pay for the installation. Note: I cannot verify the actual problem; this is largely rumor, but it makes sense. Through the July 4th, four day weekend, we were all without hot water. Cute huh? I'm not a fan of cold showers. I'm pretty annoyed with someone's "couldn't give less of damn attitude" too. The carpet has never been replaced in the hallways, but that's not a bad thing really. it is easier to keep clean and the (dog, dirt, poop, decades old carpet smell) is now gone. With the new lighting and fresh paint, the whole place is a lot brighter. False fire alarms are rare now. They almost never happen. I don't know what act of gawd it took to fix them, but at least they aren't going off at two or three in the morning every damned night now. It really is amazing what a human being can get used to. Management also seems to be trying harder. It's shocking, I tell you, shocking. Bugs are an ongoing problem. There is clearly a war going on. Sometimes the humans win a battle, sometimes the bugs win a battle. No one knows for sure who the actual victor will be, but as long as they are trying to eradicate them, I guess I can't complain too much. The biggest issue is bed-bugs, yes, they are here. No, I still haven't seen any, but those who have had them claim they are the industrial strength model. Very hard to get rid of. Now, if management would just agree to pay for bed-bug losses to property, instead of trying to screw people out of their due, I'd likely have more positive things to say about the bug problem. We shouldn't have them though. It is, after all, an old, old building. Finally, this might actually be a four star review, but these people have disappointed me before...and they probably will again...nothing is certain around here. As of now the Alexandria is marked Closed. I have no idea why. It is near 100% occupancy and we are all paying rent. WT actual F!

Yelp
I'm giving it one star because the rent is affordable. But otherwise this place is disgusting full of crack addicts drug dealers and this building is infested with cockroaches and bed bugs. I was here for about 4 months before I started getting cockroach, The roach problem is ridiculous smh. The room's floor is made of cement painted over with black paint and there are plenty of small cracks or them to hide. plus I recently found out that to managers were fired because money was coming up missing, there is just too much going on with this building I wish I would have looked more into this place before I moved in now I'm just counting down the days till my lease is up so I could get the f*** out of here. Please think twice before moving into this place...

Yelp
During a recent loft search in DTLA, I was told by an employee of the Alexandria that the biggest problem they counter first are the bed bugs. Disgusting. But also remember that is along with the Urine in the hallways, drug dealers, and oh that one suicide last month when a resident jumped out of their window onto the sidewalk. This is not the fault of the Alexandria but worthy of mention: Do not walk down streets you are not familiar with. Anything past Main street is sketchy, Los Angeles Street is OK in parts but always with a friend. One of Alexandria's recent tenants was severely beaten because he strayed too far into skid row (past Los Angeles Street), after he was hospitalized he moved back to his parents (Oklahoma). Also many stories of women being raped in alleys because they walked alone at night. Come on people, it's a big city. Please know the risks that go along with big cities, especially those on the verge of a turnaround. Good luck to you. Avoid the Alexandria and while you are at it, avoid the Rosslyn Lofts (same crappy gift, different wrapping paper)
google avatar

Phil T.

Yelp
I have nothing to say about the hotel or its current renovation project to turn the rooms into lofts. But my god, the place is beautiful. I'm not talking about the lobby or the parking garage underneath, but if you take the stairs to the 2nd floor, its an amazing piece of history. There is a majestic music/dance room with intricate floor and headboards. Go down the hall, around the stairs and you find a old, unkempt, creepy, but entrancing bar/lounge setting. If you like exploring, this is the place. It's like walking through a museum.

Yelp
I've lived at the Alexandria for about 9 months now, and I felt like it should be said that it isn't quite as horrific as some people make it out to be. 1) Yes, bugs are an issue. I see cockroaches near the trash cans (there is no trash chute) and around the elevators a lot. But management is pretty proactive about pest control, and I personally haven't had a huge problem with bugs getting into my place. Every once in awhile something tiny will slip in, but considering the amount of tenants, it's not a big deal (and I always have a gallon of bug spray on hand). If you're able to keep your place clean and not leave food out all the time, you shouldn't have a problem either. I can't really comment about bedbugs though, as I am ridiculously OCD about cleaning and making sure everything that has more than 4 legs dies once it crosses my threshold...this issue has not come up, perhaps it won't for you? 2) It can get noisy, but living in downtown, that's just something you learn to deal with. And I've never been disturbed by noise while trying to sleep or anything. 3) There are plenty of little things that making living here annoying, like the slow elevators, security not exactly making things super secure, the internet going out randomly...but for the price I pay and the convenience of having so much right outside my door, I can honestly say it's not that bad.

Yelp
I have lived here for a few months now and so far so good. Pros: Thick walls, i never hear my neighbors and they never hear me, Rent is descent Down and Out bar by the entrance Night life is great! Everything you need is close by . Rite Aid, Grand Central Market , Mini Markets across the street, and an endless amount of take out everywhere! Nice views in different angles I love the Ball room Palm Court ! Art walk is downstairs! Cons: The Bums rule this side of town , well at least they roam like if they rule it. Security thinks this is a 5 star luxury hotel , really they get new people and i get asked for my ID when i live here. Annoying I have seen bedbugs in the lower floors but my place is clean, i check it every night, i guess because some bums bring them in . i wish they would clean the carpet. It smells old.

Yelp
Welcome to roach world! I lived there for about a year and have honestly never seen anything like it. I saw literally over 100 roaches per day in my apt. I eventually just gave up. I didnt keep any food in my house at all. They were just coming in from the walls. There was black mold growing in my bathroom and the building owner told me that "it must have had something to do with how im showering." A methhead broke into my apt at 3 am and the security guards wouldnt even review footage. A guy disguised as a guard tapped on my window and tried to get me to open it one night. A guy followed me in at knifepoint. A guy in a wheelchair pulled out a knife in once in a crowded elevator. I was doing laundry and sent my friend up to grab more detergent and he got trapped in the elevator for an hour. I wasnt wearing shoes because i wasnt intending on going anywhere but from my apartment to the laundry room, and eventually had to go through the parking garage and outside to get back into the building because i sent my friend with my apt keys, which also work the elevator. I explained all of that to the owner and he still treated me like i was a homeless person and kept coming back to the fact that i wasnt wearing shoes as his defense for the elevator breaking down for what must have been the 20th time in a two month period and trapping my friend inside for an hour. The building manager once "lost" my money order for rent and i had to incur a late fee and get a new one because i argued with him. Honestly i could go on and on about all of the insane things that happened to me while living here, but im saving most of it for a book. Just do yourself a favor and dont let the temptation of low rent lure you to this hellhole.

Yelp
Had an afterparty here for a friend's wedding. The 3rd floor lounge area was really cool, really laid back "loft-y" feel; pretty rad Downtown LA venue. The dining area was off the chain! Fancy, beautiful and clean! The staff was really friendly and everyone was nice! So why the 2 stars? Well, it seems as though this place is actually an apartment of some sorts, but there were random strange people who tried to crash the different events going on, and one person was clearly heavily medicated on some illegal substances. Nothing could be done because they were tenants, apparently? Definitely something that should be corrected when there's an event going on that the clients have paid/are paying for. It's a bit sad because if it hadn't been for the random crazy crackheads causing a scene and trying to crash the party, it would've definitely gotten 3 or 4 stars. You know what? I had fun that night, and am feeling generous. I'll give it an "ok" rating with 3. I hope your experience here, though a bit different, will be as enjoyable as I had for my friend's wedding afterparty!
google avatar

Yelp
I should add that the reason why I haven't left is because the rent is cheap (although it has changed). That is all.

Yelp
I recently was there for an audit. It was hard to focus because this place is huge. It's absolutely stunning. They are doing an amazing job restoring the legacy of this old hotel. A must see!

Yelp
I visited the Alexandria to attend an event held in their event space (the Blankenship Ballet room and some of the surrounding rooms). Inconsistent is really the only word I can think of to describe the entire experience. The dressing room was large, light, and beautifully decorated, with lots of mirrors and stuff-placing surfaces to accommodate all the primping dancers (though it was a bit cramped for the dozens and dozens whom I shared it with--but this is more the fault of the event planners than the venue itself), the Blankenship Ballet room was sort of shabby chic. Some aspects, like the old gilt trim and beautiful Baroque wall treatments were really, really nice. Some aspects, like the peeling paint and holes in the ceiling, as well as the Rockstar vending machine up on the balcony made it lean a little trashier than chic, though. All that could be forgiven though if nobody had to use the bathroom or find the event space in the first place (Ha! Fat chance!). Nothing had signs, and everything was arranged around a dark, dingy, labyrinthine set of corridors and rooms-under-renovation (I hope they were under renovation. Otherwise they're...a bit grim). It took me 20 minutes and several forays (with directions from friends and random strangers) to find the ladies' room, which seemed only a few steps up from the leftover plumbing I've seen in abandoned buildings in the high desert. I was amazed any of it worked! I got a chunk of glass wedged in my foot while wandering looking for the facilities (note to dancers: BRING SHOES), so luckily I'm up to date on all of my shots. The event was nice, the venue not so much. The only benefit seemed to be its proximity to cheap downtown parking and cool eateries. Dear event organizers, let's please pick somewhere else next time?

Dionne F.

Yelp
This is the worse experience I have ever had living in a apartment. The management and the owners dont care. Days with no electricity and water, bed bugs, roaches poor customer service in the office, they loose your paperwork and think its ok to have your financial information compromised, I had mold in my bathroom for over 10 days, dead bodies in the units, homeless sleeping in the hallways, drug dealing all night long, elevators always out....just to name a few. Many reports to the health department no results because we are poor. Heavy police presence, unsafe. The ballroom is all they care about
google avatar

Tammy F.

Yelp
This place is very bad, and very dirty on the weekends. I am out of here when my lease is up. The place is really not that good. They do not care about the tenants. They people who are the owners or mangaement, only care about the money. Things that go on here are wrong. Some people are not even able to function on their own and they still live hear. It is a joke and a bad experience. Lots of drugs problems. I would not recommend to live here. And the elevators break down A LOT!!!!!. The fired some good people. Some people are good who work here. Some of the others are very bad people.

Yelp
Elevators constantly need repair. Hot water often turned off for repairs, Staff and management are very rude, especially the ladies in the 5th st, 1st floor office who are completely psycho. They care nothing for the residents and treat them with contempt. The hotel should do itself a favor by firing them. But keep Romeo. He's the only bright star in a company of fools and idiots. They even take pictures when they do repairs in your apt. Security is very lax. I've had stuff stolen when I was away, including an Amazon Echo Dot plugged into a wall socket.

Yelp
I went into an apartment at the Alexandria one month ago and it had a serious roach infestation!!!!!!!!! Alexandria should be reported to city officials. Possibly a class action lawsuit would be healthy for the tenants.

Yelp
the history of this place is cool. i like the idea that i am staying in a room that a movie star once stayed in. and exploring the hauntedness is very fun. however, this place is disgusting. and bed bugs are awful, as previously mentioned. my skin is covered in battle wounds and i look like a drug addict simply because i sleep in this place. they definitely portray this place to be something its not.

Yelp
Living here has been a huge mistake. The only good thing about it is cheap rent...but even then...it's not really that cheap for the space. Compared to other $/sq ft in areas like K-Town or NoHo. Good points: Convenient to Pershing Square Station (public trans). Bad points: Too many to list! I once dealt with shattered glass in the hall for four days. Despite telling security and maintenance repeatedly, it remained. Same thing just happened with a bunch of dog poop in the hall all weekend. Residents include a ton of drug addicts and handicapped old people - not the young, savvy, $-conscious crowd leasing would have you believe lives here. If you look at a unit in the lower tower of the building, be aware any units with inward windows will feature music until 2am provided by the lovely club downstairs with no soundproofing at all. Units facing 5th St get the same benefit since the club has no air conditioning which means they leave the windows open to relase the noise. Oh, and expect BUGS - roaches & bedbugs - are the primary residents in this place. Can be seen crawling through the halls, in the elevators, and definitely into your unit! Also, the free Internet they provide is slow, at best. I've experienced outages of 7+ days and they really don't care that they're failing to provide an advertised service. My unit has been entered with less than 24hrs notice or none at all. I was once without hot water for 3 days... It wasn't until I complained and threatened to call the housing commission that they started posting signs about potential shut offs. There are a tiny number of employees here who care. Unfortunately, none of them have the power to do much of anything. Mostly they're the maintence and security guys... All friendly and as helpful as they can be. Unless it's a choice between here or homelessness...do yourself a favor and stay FAR away! Getting a roommate to share a place in a better building is WAY worth it.

Yelp
Wow. I know back in it's hey day, this was the place for the celebs and high society to rub elbows. The glory days are gone and what is left over is a total renovation of this place to make "lofts". I use that term loosely, because, my friend currently moved in and it's not even close to being a loft. It's a studio, with a bath. It's not even completely renovated yet and sometimes the elevators don't work. WTF? The room is a standard small hotel room, with a "kitchenette" (think "stove" and fridge in one unit" and a really small bathroom. Maybe when renovation is complete, my rating my change, as for now. I'm not too fond of the prison type atmosphere here. Security always looks at you like you're a criminal, and the people are like zombies (crack anyone?). I don't like it here, someone take me to Compton, I'd probably feel safer.

Yelp
Customer Service is AWFUL. I felt like I was being screened at the airport by a man with giant hands. They wanted all of my financial records for 6 months, and when I sent them enough stuff to totally make off with my identity if they wanted to, they still wanted more. They seem so shady, I am still worried they will use my personal information in a bad way even though I told them to shred it. I don't trust them at all. So I told them to just shred my documents and I will look elsewhere.

Yelp
Affordable, yes. A good friend of mine recently moved out because of bedbugs. In fact, every time I visited, I got bit myself! Here's the deal: always beware when a place tries to promote its history of old movie stars. That they stayed here is nostalgia, but it has no bearing on present management or practices. The problem is a constant issue with bedbugs. It's been reported on http://bedbugregistry.com/hotel/CA/Los-Angeles/Alexandria-Hotel/, Google +, and here on Yelp. Bedbugs are extremely hard to get rid of, and all a tenant can probably do is purchase Cedarcide (off the internet), and a huge supply of Dry Swiffers. You will have to lterally spray and Swiffer everyday. Also, washing any curtains, bedding, even all the clothes, and going up high with cleaning into cabinets, behind pictures is necessary as bedbugs burrow in everything, not just beds. I would also take liberties and spray the hallways and elevators, and stairwells. After all, you're not the only one with bedbugs. In the end, bedbugs will make you crazy. Eventually, you'll have to move. If you want to stay, here's the link for Cedarcide. http://www.cedarcide.com/product/best-yet-organic-bug-spray/ You'll need Swiffers as well.

Yelp
This place has a LOT of history. Some good and some...well...not so good. I have been to the DNO and Gorbals but I have never seen the Palm Court ballroom before. Yesterday I had an opportunity to work in the ballroom and it was absolutely beautiful. I loved the glass ceiling that reminded me of the original Poseidon Adventure movie.

Yelp
I moved into the Alexandria. What a mistake!! I fell for the sweet talking leasing personnel and the rent rate with all utilities included. The units themselves are not bad and all your utilities and wifi are included. I have had a real problem with cockroaches parading thru my unit and that's me being a total clean freak. It's a little freaky when you go to cook something on your two burner stove and roaches appear from your burner. Disgusting. They've sprayed but those disgusting roaches keep coming back. No experience with bed bugs ever but the roaches are bad enough. The trash containers are next to the elevators so at night they are full of roaches and all over the walls in that area. The water is constantly being shut off, and at times without any notice. It makes showering a problem when you gotta get ready for work. Tenants? There are some pretty cool people in the building, but the majority are un-desirable, crazy, talk to themselves, or strung out on crack or some of other kind of dope. The elevators are usually littered and recently gang graffiti is appearing in them. When I moved in it was quiet in my section until leasing started renting to ghetto, loud mouthed, kids who are up all night, playing rap, hangin g out in the hall being obnoxious. I don't even bring friends here because it is totally embarrassing. I too fell on hard times but the minute my lease is up I am out of here. There are a lot of mentally ill tenants in this building. ALOT!! They roam the hallways, dig thru the trash containers, ride the elevators and just stare at you with that blank look. Had I known what i know now, I dfntly would have never moved in. It looks like leasing people are renting to ANYONE who qualifies. My last gripe. I don't mind people smoking 420 but everything my neighbor smokes, cooks come directly into my unit thru my bathroom vent. I have come home from work to have my apartment reaking of 420 and strong. I hear the people with mental stuff, screaming in the middle of the night for no reason. I would say look elsewhere to live. I think leasing office should really be a little more forthright with people who would be decent, civilized tenants. Like the other reviewers mentioned, I think at this point leasing is just renting to anyone to fill this pretty large building. It's too bad because it could be a great building with great people. Just because you are on a lower income salary doesn't mean you have to rent the place out to tenants who are going to make other tenants feel unsafe and miserable.

Yelp
DO NOT TRY TO MOVE HERE!! Their management is the worst and unprofessional! I started the application process 2 weeks before i left on Vacation on May 23rd. 2 WEEKS! I made it very clear that i needed to be moved in by the 1st of June. they seemed sure that i would be able to move in on time and i left thinking that by the time i got back, all i had to do was move. well, over the course of the next MONTH, they kept dragging on the processes and asked for more forms and kept pushing back my move in date. I was running out of time! The whole things was depressing and grueling and the uncaring leasing manager wouldn't respond to my email no matter how desperate i sounded. They toyed with me and wouldn't give me a straight answer. So by JULY 22ND i still didnt get the green light and i had give up on them. They couldnt even tell me the status of my application. such bs. I hate these people so much because this was someones life hanging in the air and they didnt do anything to expedite the process!!! UGH!

Yelp
Im here shooting a music video. Parts of the building are beautiful! And some of the rooms are set dressed super awesome! But there's definitely tons of roaches. And some of the people that live here are sketchy, or have stories of sketchy vagrants that wonder through. Oh and there was a bum sleeping in the elevator when I got here. But... It's downtown LA! It's exactly what I expected it to be. If they can get rid of some bugs and crack heads... The renovations going on downstairs have some serious potential to restore this place to awesome

Yelp
I moved in at the beginning of August, and to be honest, it's not that bad. I came from suburban San Diego where I'd never seen a homeless person to living downtown just a few blocks from Skid Row. As long as you have an open mind and contentious of your surroundings, you will be fine. 1) Bugs: I'm on a higher floor, so I haven't experienced the horror of endless bedbugs and roaches. Yes, there have been nights that I've seen more cockroaches than I've wanted, but I have an infinite supply of bug spray on hand to zap those bastards. I cover my drains 24/7 and I'm OCD clean. As long as you are smart about it and not a filthy pig, you will be fine. When I moved in, I noticed that roaches were living in the gap between the molding and the wall. Since I filled those with liquid foam, I've been 99% bug free. When you move in, make sure you inspect every nook and cranny. 2) Neighbors: Honestly, living in an apartment complex, you need to be respectful of your neighbors...especially if your apartment complex used to be an old hotel. The quarters are small, but I don't think people realize how much you can really hear. Yes, the walls are thick concrete, but when you blast your music at 7:00am, I can hear it...or if you decide to pork your girlfriend or boyfriend at 2:00am, I can hear that too. My neighbors like to get into yelling spats (borderline domestic violence) throughout the night, so that's always fun waking up to that when they decide to bring their pathetic problems into the hallways. 3) Residents: I'm one of the non-drug addicts/whackos here. This building houses one extreme (druggies/bat-shit crazy older people) to the other (normal/working class young adults). There is no in-between. I'm going on my third month here, and I've had a couple nervous elevator rides...mainly with older men who feel it's appropriate to hit on me. There are also a couple cracked out women that live here that have made me nervous. If you get pepper spray, you should be good to go....or just get a dog. 4) Security: I agree that security is minimal. I've never seen them question anyone...they kind of just sit there and shoot the shit with each other. I'm not sure that I would feel 100% comfortable that they would run up to my apartment if I had a serious issue (they would probably take their sweet time). Who knows, hopefully I won't ever have to find out. 5) Fire Alarms: The fire alarms in the building have been randomly going off at all hours of the night. I'm not sure if there are real issues, or just someone playing a practical joke. 6) Elevators: THE WORST PART OF THE BUILDING. I got stuck about a month ago in one, and it was the worst experience of my life...THANK GOD I was by myself and not with the creepy sex offender that preys on the floor above me. I was in there about 10 minutes, and it was horrible. Security was on it right way, and I was able to talk with them via the security button. 7) Location: Honestly, 5th and Spring is quickly becoming the new hip street of DTLA. A couple of weeks ago they were filming the new Batman movie, which was pretty awesome. Literally, once a week they are either filming in the Alexandria or on the street. There are also tons of new and trendy eateries and bars. There's is also a dog park on 2nd and Spring that I walk to after work. I will eventually upgrade my living accommodations to something better, but I will likely stay on Spring Street because of how much it's growing. Overall, you get what you pay for. Living by myself, it's fine. I love my unit...I just wish i had cooler neighbors. Other than that, I really don't have major complaints. It's a great temporary place if you need to save some money. It's one of the few places that actually has a parking option. I wish it had a pool/fitness center, but hey, beggers can't be choosers.

Yelp
I don't really have a review but every time I email to ask about the price of the 1 bedroom, I never get a reply back...WTF?? Can anyone answer that for me? I even called them when I was in LA for a visit and they hung up on me.

Yelp
Building is not CLOSED. But I caution you about moving in unless you can not find another option. Management is BAD. 3 Cleaning people who do not work past 5 pm or weekends. Nothing gets fixed or if it does stays fixed. Elevators break down every other day limited access electronic key for elevator makes visiting friends on other floors difficult at best, especially if your disabled. Management will lie to your face about repairs ect. They do the best they can I guess, considering it really is the new owners issues. All Renovations are for the public areas that can be leased for events or retail spaces. Ripping out stained carpets in halls and painting splintered wood floors brown is not a renovation! I really had more hope moving into this historic old hotel that has an amazing history but alas I feel like I am being completely ripped off every time I pay my rent. They make it very hard to have any pride in living here. I would say pricing is moderate considering the bang you get for your buck is completely unpleasant! It's sad I really wanted to love living here.

Yelp
I moved in this building almost 2 years ago. They gave me a criminal background check which I passed. They wanted 6 months of check stubs to establish that I was not making more than $30,000 per year. They wanted 6 months of all banking activity. This building never stopped wanting, they bothered my job regularly with questions about income, they bothered me about bank accounts that I had closed before I moved in. They make me fell as if I am some villain out here trying to hide something. There is lots of roaches here. I had never seen bedbugs before until I moved to the alexandria and my bed became infested with them. I have gone through several inspections per year. They come in and inspect your room. Tomorrow is another inspection. Other than that, It's a really cool place to live.

Yelp
Came here for a show...by far the worst bathroom I have ever smelled. Smelled like their trash hadn't been taken out in weeks and other unmentionable smells...

Yelp
My friend just moved in last month and I would like to rent a studio as well. Rents are very affordable and management is very attentive. Not sure why the same people/tenants keep giving such bad reviews but yet don't move out. I want to thank everyone in the office for all the assistance they have provided to my buddy, looking forward to get my own room.

Yelp
My boyfriend lived with his two roommates in a tiny room on the fifth floor corner of Spring and Fifth. Their beds touched. This was probably the least disturbing part of my experience there. When I first started visiting The Alexandria, it was harmless enough. I will admit, it is stunning and charming. After some months of being there, I decided I wanted to see the laundry room, so I tagged along down into the basement. As my boyfriend was dealing with his laundry, I saw a hug, live bedbug on the folding table- right next to a cockroach. I began to examine the room and noticed there were dead bugs ALL on the floor under the washers and driers. I looked closely, then peaked into the machines. Tons of dead bedbugs. We called an exterminator 3 times- never came. They send an exterminator around once and a while, but they won't come back if you're not home. One of the roommates began getting bed bug bites. then another. then myself. cockroaches started appearing more frequently. The neighbors are junkies and they're kind of scary and were super intrusive. There is a man who sells street drugs right outside of the main entrance. The security is useless. Crime/accidents run rampant in the area - we deduce that if you live there long enough, something bad is bound to happen to you. The hotel sends you notices about water being turned off, exterminators coming, fire inspectors coming, but none of that ever happened. It's way too loud on the specific corner we were on (Spring and Fifth). The music from the bar downstairs until 2AM (though, the bar is pretty good), the farmers markets on sundays with live bands, sirens, drunk people yelling at each other in the streets until 5AM - and then at 5AM the crazy people start shouting. My boyfriend, his roommates and myself all use to park about 1.5miles from The Alexandria because that was our only option. That walk at night is definitely do-able, but is not comfortable. Not for an area for women to walk alone. Although The Alexandria is charming, it's not worth the worry. My boyfriend and I had to treat all of his stuff for about a month and a half after him and his roommates moved, and his roommates flat out threw anything away that could be contaminated. Good spot for a one-of-a-kind experience.

Yelp
This place is affordable that's it. The management of the building is awful. They treat the building as if the residents "should be grateful"...but clean and sanitary is not a lot to ask for. The residents leave trash in the hallways when there is a trash shoot. The residents allow their pets to use the bathroom in the hallways. No maintenance on the weekends and the place is HOT NASTY MESS until Monday. The water pressure is low and you cant take a decent shower and its not hot. The electrical is awful you cant have more than one appliance plugged in at the same time. The elevators never work so residents are stuck on their floor even those in wheelchairs. The building is infested with roaches, bed bugs and every other critter you can think of. The caregivers for the residents with special needs don't seem to be involved because we have several residents who are wondering the halls at night, using the bathroom in the elevators and hallways. These owners have been sued several times in the past. Always a pending lawsuit. Changed management several times it is ridiculous. The building needs to be condemned and the owners slapped in the face for treating people like they are not worthy of a good place to live based on affordability. THIS NOT THE PLACE TO LIVE!!!!!
