"Wind your way down a series of twisty country lanes and you will be rewarded with a visit to this attractive Victorian inn beside the village green. The charming interior comes with bags of character and a warming fire, while the summer months are best spent on the covered terrace, with cosy, sheepskin-lined benches on hand for when the sun sets. The cooking is unashamedly traditional and executed with a minimum of fuss but plenty of skill, resulting in hearty, robustly flavoured dishes like ox liver with mash and bacon. The friendly team will happily guide you through the menu." - Michelin Inspector

Delicious meals! Good service. Maybe a little closely packed in, but it is a country pub. I had the salt and pepper squid and the prawn linguine. Very good! They don’t support American Express cards tho.

Top notch food. Friendly prices. Amazing decor and atmosphere. 100% foody’s pub. I would 100% recommend and although it’s 60 miles from our home, we would try very much to visit this again on a regular basis.

Popped in for Sunday lunch ,after a long walk with my dog around Ivinghoe beacon and Ashridge, and was delighted with the roast pork and service We will definitely return with my family. Highly recommend!

The food is super delicious. Firstly, the car parking is limited, being quite tight for space, and the surface needs redoing. I would recommend parking out on the road. Entered the pub, being greeted with a wonderful welcoming hello. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The service was excellent. The food itself was absolutely delicious. Lots of choice on the menu and a specials menu which mainly had fish on. I went for the sausages and mash - was tasty. The best was the dessert - marmalade Bakewell tart with clotted cream. Absolutely devine! Unfortunately, I was sat next to a couple in a corner, who spent the whole time sniffing. Shame! Overall, really pleased. Food is delicious but comes at a price! Will certainly be back.

Very nice meal well worth the drive. I can see parking could be a little tricky. We had starters, 2 steaks, beef roast and fish. £180 for 4 people incl. tip. Definitely a few cuts above your typical pub meal. The service was lovely and we felt very welcome.

This was my third time visiting the Alford Arms and it never disappoints. Great service, beautiful setting with some lovely walks nearby and absolutely delicious food with locally sourced ingredients. We love that the menu changes monthly with daily specials so you can try something different or stick with the classics!

I really liked that they had space for my baby’s pram and we were comfortable enough to enjoy our lunch. The food was tasty. I want to thank our lovely waiter who was so kind and helpful and he was smiling as well! The serving was brilliant! I also loved the warm fireplace and the cozy atmosphere!

Google
We had several "pub meals" during a recent week in England and we all agreed Alford Arms was the best of them. Located in a quiet spot not far from Hemel Hempstead the menu, food quality and service were all top notch and definitely more like a restaurant than a pub. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Birthday lunch 2 weeks ago and had a very tasty steak main course followed by awesome warm coconut rice pudding ; great service and ambience - well done all at AA!

Yelp
This is a fantastic find out in the countryside. Well kept ale, and a local ale (brewed just up the road) on tap as well. Good crowd, lovely beer garden and great staff. Highly recommended. stefsvoice4u

Yelp
This is a lovely place with superb food in a gorgeous spot. The staff are knowledgeable and charming, and the food is very good. Booking well in advance is the only way to get a table at the weekend. Prices are high-ish for gastro-pub food but wel worth it. The decor is very appealing and the wine list is superb. Pop up to see the lovely folks at the Frithsden Vineyard next door if you go in the summer. The outdoor area is stunning in nice weather too.

Yelp
Tucked away in a tiny hamlet on the edge of Ashridge Forest is this gorgeous pub. I have been coming here since I was a nipper and other than a gastro pub style lick of paint and the addition of super efficient staff, it has the same independent country style welcoming feel it always has. On a weekend it never fails to be busy - you are likely to share a pint with families, dogs and hikers alike! There are just a few tables at the front of the pub (main restaurant dining at the back) make sure you come early and book a table. Great in the Winter - cosy with open fires, but the outside patio/garden area is just as fantastic in the summer and a real suntrap to boot. The food is a great example of how gastro pub fair should be, they pay attention to serving seasonal fruit and veggies and use fresh local produce as much as they can, so naturally there are variations to the menu throughout the year. Wine list is extensive and I have been told they serve a decent pint too. So if you want tasty honest grub, excellent attentive service, relaxed atmosphere in a superb country location you would be hard pushed to find something better than this.

Yelp
This pub is a hidden Hertfordshire gem and a lovely setting for Sunday lunch. The food was delicious, we managed to bag a table outside and only had mild trouble keeping the wasps at bay! The only problem (and it's a small one) with this pub, is that it's location means you'll need a designated driver.

Yelp
A great pub in the country with wonderful food and very good value wine list.
