The 27 Best Restaurants in Huatulco, Oaxaca | Eater

"The restaurant opened as ¡Ay Caray! in 2005, later became Hemingway’s, and finally changed to Alfredo’s in 2013, but the owner has always been the same: chef Alfredo Patiño Ramirez. Come here for tacos, pastas, the catch of the day, or the camarones de la jefa, the specialty of Alfredo’s late mother, Doña Alfreda, prepared with a spicy sauce made with tusta chiles, tomatoes, and white wine. In high season there is live music almost daily, and it’s just as common to come here for a round of drinks as a full meal. Note: The restaurant closes each September and October. We were excited to go back to this spot that used to have amazing fish tacos. Sadly this visit the fish was so over cooked it was inedible. We bought it to the server’s attention which was met with a shrug and a laugh. Of note the bill was also incorrect. Very disappointing.

Had a quick little early dinner with friends, absolutely amazing tacos! I had the battered fish tacos; which were up to par with how I like my tacos. A friend of mine had steak tacos and they seemed to like them a lot as well. The garnishing on the tacos were excellent! I paired mine with a mango margarita with a bamboo straw (yay for reusable straws!) and it was exactly what I needed after a long day! The atmosphere is super cute and the service is excellent! we loved our server! Keep in mind that if you go in a group they do not do separate bills; remember what you order when it comes to paying up!

Great atmosphere! Amazing food! We have been coming here for years and happy to be back this week to support the local restaurants. Our favourites are always the Chiva salad, chicken tacos and spaghetti carbonara 😀 There is live music on weekends and lots of outdoor space. You should definitely check this place out

Excellent service , such a fun atmosphere for a birthday celebration. We were a party of 15 and were well accommodated. Drinks are top notch and the live music was excellent!

Solid four out of five. The service was great. Extra points to the bartender who when we asked for an espresso martini she went down the street to get the espresso. The food was.. okay. The pesto pasta was too much and the carbonara was just missing … something. Worth it to check it out. Great atmosphere.

Had a great time here on a Monday night. Lots of tourists and locals in here. Had live music and the staff was helpful and friendly.

Went to Alfredo's twice for dinner during our week in Hualtuco which says something right there. Food was GREAT. We had the shrimp platter which was a variety of jumbo shrimp prepared 3 different ways. Soooo good. Also had the jalapeno poppers. Probably the best I've ever had. Not overly hot that you can't enjoy them and the bacon was cooked perfectly. Alfredo himself was there both nights. A very hard working guy and very friendly. Prices were higher than the simple taco stands but still cheap by US standards. We also took his cooking class. It was the basic Mexican cooking class and perfect for us. Stuff his mother taught him. Then we feasted on what we made. I highly recommend both the restaurant and the class.

This place is a MUST. Alfredo and his entire team were so accommodating. We went to celebrate a friends birthday and had the most amazing night. The food and drinks were great but the vibe was the highlight. And, did I mention the live music?!
