13 Essential Dallas Mediterranean Restaurants | Eater Dallas

"As far as this map goes, Ali Baba is the veteran; its original shop on Greenville Avenue opened in 1989 (although it’s relocated several times and grown to multiple locations since). Originally it was a simple sit-down restaurant featuring traditional Lebanese recipes from the mother of the brothers who owned the joint, Adam and Jalal Chanaa. Now, Ali Baba’s saffron chicken, fried cauliflower, and silky hummus are Dallas staples." - Rachel Pinn

This Mediterranean buffet was wonderful. They had a full range of Mediterranean food with plenty of different flavors. The staff was great and the place was nice and clean. I would recommend you try this place.

Food is really fresh. Saturday evening buffet was $25 a person, but it’s actually worth it for the quality of food. The interior could be more. It’s very plain. For the vibrant Mediterranean art and culture, they could decorate it to justify a more expensive dining experience.

I was in town for a conference and for a pre-gathering time, and our friends decided to go to Ali Baba Mediterranean. The food was wonderfully tasty and had a Mediterranean salad with chicken and a sample of the beef shawarma. I also had a friend that did the plate and we all ate our food! Highly recommended with great service.

We used to love this place, but it is just not the same! We stopped in for lunch on a Monday. It was Presidents Day, but we were shocked they had a sign on the door indicating that the buffet was $25 instead of $20 for "holiday pricing". Seriously! On Presidents Day! **Eye roll** We proceeded in, paid for the buffet, and got a table. When I went to get a drink, almost all the fountain drink options were labeled OUT. Okay, what is going on here!?! Not good. Especially since we can only drink sugar free beverages. I stopped an employee to complain and explain. He was kind enough to set up the sugar free drink dispenser for us, but no clue why all the other ones were out!? On to the buffet. I always like to start with soup and the tomato basil soup did not disappoint, but the seeded bread was soaked with too much olive oil and the spanakopita was soggy. The rest of the food was average at best. The chicken is usually so good here, but it was flavorless. Even the chicken dish with the mushrooms and gravy. No flavor whatsoever. Definitely not worth the Presidents Day up charge holiday pricing! We won't be back.

Lunch buffet only $20/pp Food are always hot! Love rice pudding. Quality and vibe were nice. But to be honestly, they didn't have much dishes.

Google
This place never misses. Ever. The quality is always too notch, flavor consistent in every trip, restaurant is always clean and everytime I’m there I see many employees pitch in to keep the food fresh the lines clean the tables pristine and the customers happy. I have been a fan of Ali Baba for 15 years and I have no plans to stop. We love Ali Baba!!!

Awesome place to taste Mediterranean dishes lot of varieties to taste. Lamb and chicken kababs are so delicious .

Google
I absolutely love coming to this place! First off, the staff is very friendly and attentive, and they provide a great atmosphere. Secondly, the food is priced very well, nothing on the menu seems overpriced at all, so very affordable. Thirdly, everything I have had here is delish! What I pictured is the falafel plate which comes with four and some fresh veggies. I also got the saffron chicken plate, which came with rice on the side. The rice had a nice hint of fragrance and paired fantastic with the chicken and the sauce. The chicken itself just about melted in my mouth, and the sauce was very flavorful. You can also go here in the morning to mid lunch times for their buffet which is an incredible way to try the majority of their dishes! I asked the waitress when I was here on a Sunday and she mentioned that Sunday buffets end at 3:00pm. If you haven’t been here at all , I highly recommend you try the buffet first, and enjoy your experience here cause that’s what you’ll have!

Yelp
There's nothing bad to say about Ali Baba. Even the price for the lunch buffet is decent given what everything else costs and for how good the food is every time. The only not as good experience I had here was once when I had a cold and I couldn't taste everything. It delivers every time we go. If we lived closer, we'd probably try to eat here every day. Service is also great every time. They get you seated quickly, they keep the food rotated and fresh, and they clear the empty plates.

Yelp
Wow! This. Was. Great!!! I had been looking for a great Mediterranean buffet and I am totally hooked!! This restaurant was cool-looking inside. But, of course, even more the food - wow - everything was so fresh and beautiful. There was a lot of variety. The food was even prepared a little differently (in a good way) than the way I have had Mediterranean food in the past - like new twists. And the flavor of the food was so delicious - I mean, there actually WAS flavor, too. Service was great, too - keeping the place clean, whisking away dirty dishes quick. For 100% I am going back. Definitely. For sure.

Yelp
The food options are the best, down to taste and quality. Especially when you come in during buffet hours. You will definitely get your money's worth. As far as service, we mostly do to-go at the buffet. Amanda, and all of the staff at the front are always very helpful, and make our experience great. We've been going to this location for years, and they never disappoint!

Yelp
The place is looking a little rough with the booth chair material showing large holes and places on the wall have tape and dents. Despite the aged appearance, the lunch buffet doesn't disappoint. Everything is so tasty! Plenty of vegetable choices and meat choices. I love their baked cauliflower. The seasoning just pops in your mouth. Same goes for the cooked spinach, and the cooked mixed vegetables. The saffron chicken is lovely because of the sauce which I like to sop up with my pita bread. The salad bar has hummus, baba ganoush, fatoush (cucumber and tomato salad), and tabouli. In addition to warm, fresh Arabic pocket bread, you can also get zaatar bread. I always finish my meal with the rice pudding. It is firm and has a few pistachios in it. The best I have had in the area. The drink station has generic sodas now, but they taste nearly the same as the big competitors that you are familiar with. Holiday prices are $25 for the buffet. Ouch! But hey, the food is still worth it. If you need to leave your seat, leave your plate and get a fresh one. The staff will take your used plates and leave your silverware. You pay at the entrance before being seated. This allows you to hangout or leave as soon as you need to without having to get anyone's attention to pay the bill. Still a great experience!

Yelp
I love Mediterranean food and I think this place have the best eggplant dip and kobab. The roasted cauliflowers also amazing flavor . Definitely coming back here ; food is simple but amazing

Yelp
This was 4.75- so so wonderful! I absolutely will be returning when I'm in town! Huge recommend- especially for celiacs & gluten intolerant (as everything clearly labeled, with indivisible serving tongs, etc.) The front phone was actually answered (rare at many restaurants these days), promptly sat, paying for meal was easy as flat buffet price, service was very attentive yet in a none intrusive way. And have I mentioned the large variety of hot entrees as well as salads as well as soups as well as condiments... salt & pepper grinders on the table... & an overall positive environment. And I haven't even touched on the healthier sodas & unsweetened tea available & more... & I'm saying all this as someone who normal dislikes buffets... but I'll 100% be at this buffet again! Bravo to everyone at this lovely establishment such a clean & inviting restaurant!

Yelp
Great service and food!! I think about this place now every time I want Mediterranean. Worth the drive if you aren't from the area!

Padma M.

Yelp
I enjoy eating at this place. I am a vegetarian and they have a variety of items to enjoy from. Love this place . Ambiance is ok. Always crowded and bustling with people. I wish they separate vegetarian from other meat items.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Have eaten here several times and the food is very good. What is a buffet they're still service and it is adequate. I like the fact that they have quite a variety of food.
google avatar

Surbhi C.

Yelp
Their food is always amazing. The buffet so worth the price. Zatar bread is delicious and so are the kebabs!
google avatar

Chae W.

Yelp
The food here is so fresh and delicious. We love their all you can eat buffet. So many choices so little stomach. Even so, if I can't eat a whole lot, it doesn't matter because what I do eat is so worth it and makes my tummy happy.

Joanne C.

Yelp
They change to Buffet only at $25 a person some people can't eat that much food. We use to go there a lot. It is bad since Jay left. His son was rude. We use to come w a large group. I do not recommend this anymore.
google avatar

Jersey J.

Yelp
Buffet stile only when we were there. Food was good, they kept the buffet clean and full. Worth a try.
google avatar

Charley B.

Yelp
5/5 for the buffet alone. A healthy, delicious and nutritious lunch with so much variety for $9 per pound cannot be beat
google avatar

Kaya Z.

Yelp
This place used to be my favorite buffet. Even though I don't eat much, but I did enjoy the variety and food quality. I'm not sure happened the past month, two time we ate here were all sad experiences. The food were not the same, almost all the roast meats were dry, and the gyro taste salty and very starchy. The weekend is $25 per person and there's not much improvement than the weekdays. If you really want to try this place, to-go box option is still more worthy it. I hope this is only temporary downside of this restaurant, I want to eat here regularly like I did in the summer time. Hopefully it will change to be better.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved the food, mushroom chicken, starters, desserts , kebabs and desserts. Yum!!! Worth the money. Good service. Decent seating.

Yelp
1st & seemingly last visit today. It's $20 per adult, age 13+ when checking. I asked for a correction because of the accidental weekend charge. We called ahead & also confirmed we didn't miss any postings on the door. No loud voice, no belittling, no rudeness. I asked for the correction. This offended the lady with the piercing & neck shaking. Didn't catch her name. We should have been psychic & known it wasn't an issue to get charged an increase because "no other customer complained, only you". I'm not responsible for others, nor is my debit card. She mentioned she might not have told us but I guess she told them? Thats why they wouldn't question an "error" if so. It's proper to forewarn changes. She recommended we resolve this by leaving & voided the transaction. Not my request & my son was already eating. She said then put whatever he has in a to go box. We wasted time & gas driving from Prosper lol. Had to call our guest to pull over in Plano to wait for us to figure out whatever. Obviously they thought I was joking & didn't believe me at first. It's very acceptable to refuse service the moment they cuss, become abusive to staff, ridicule, or try to intimidate. Surely she's the daughter of the owners because typically, staff should ever feel this comfortable acting this way. My mother would be ashamed if I treated her customers this way in either place during either location. Especially if our store's actions caused the customer to question us. This was such a simple fix. Disclose in advance to avoid misunderstanding. Correct your errors if you create negativity for a customer. This isn't a case of your customer being misinformed & ordering a dish they don't like. No tarof. I regret not going to Shish Kebab on Spring Valley. I cannot imagine the family & staff there being this way. That's why they have lifetime customers. Seriously. You'll also have no negative surprises.

Yelp
I go to Ali Baba often because I feel it's the freshest in town. Wonderful food and service! The meats: gyro, stuffed peppers, beef kafta, and chicken dishes are juicy and satisfying. The falafal is crunchy and textural but light -- and Ali Baba features many colorful vegetable dishes such as sauteed zucchini with peppers, carrot, mushroom, onion, roasted cauliflower, and spinach medley, taboule, and many salads. Their rice and roasted potatoes stand out, but my all-time favorite dish is the melt-in-your mouth baked eggplant and chickpeas in tomato sauce. Epic rice pudding with pistachios makes a delicate finish!
google avatar

Vinny P.

Yelp
The food is amazing and it's very delicious. I guess because it's a weekday the restaurant manager chooses what they want to make and being $25 each for the buffet why offer everything as usual right? My opinion charge less if you're going to offer less! The hostess and servers were very polite and attentive. Not sure who was the manger in charge, because everyone was dressed as a server, so i didn't have the opportunity to express my appreciation for their hard work. The atmosphere was very quiet maybe because it wasn't very busy. Something was off when I was there I just can't pinpoint it. But I will still continue to eat there. I still recommend this restaurant especially if you are looking for a new taste of food. To those who are patrons of this establishment you know how good it is to eat here. I have no pictures to share because I ate my food too fast. Lol Bon appetite!

Ivy N.

Yelp
Came here with some colleagues for a work lunch and was pleasantly surprised! I love mediterranean food but have never been to or heard of a mediterranean buffet. They had a variety of dishes and everything was really good! The meats weren't dry and seasoned very well. The potatoes were super flavorful and all the dishes tasted fresh. For $20 a person, it's a really great price for a ton of food. I would highly recommend and re-visit!

Yelp
One of my ABSOLUTE favorite places to eat in a 100 mile radius!!! The BUFFET is fantastic--love getting a scoop of each favorite items & their Rice Pudding w/ Cinnamon is the perfect combo me to a delicious meal... I wish I could go once a week, I would!!!
google avatar

Chelsea J.

Yelp
Fantastic! Place was packed but we (2) got seated immediately. Buffet style lunch. Super clean and constantly being kept up. Cannot do it justice in a review bc the food was THAT GOOD! Everything you could think of on a traditional Mediterranean menu. Highly Recommend!!
google avatar

Bianca D.

Yelp
My favorite Mediterranean buffet ever. The food is fresh and great quality. A must try is the saffron chicken curry and rice and gyro. Buttery and flavorful. Price is a pretty penny, over $20 for the lunch buffet but well worth I will say.
google avatar

Yelp
5+ Stars for a memorable lunch today. My Granddaughter was the first to exclaim, THIS is the best food I've ever tasted !! Cold and Hot bars had plenty of vegetarian choices and the herbs and seasoning were just perfect. PLEASE open more locations next year!!

Yelp
...... READ THIS REVIEW..... Go - Awesome food!! Don't be surprised by a line or wait to get in at mealtimes - they have a loyal following. I've been eating here since 2003 (old location, before the buffet existed). All other Mediterranean places don't really compare in freshness, quality and flavor. When you walk in and get your first smell of the food.... well, that will say everything you need to know - DELICIOUS!! Although one dish has always been super dry (Chicken Kabob, but we discussed a change in cooking technique that might help...), everything else I've had sets the standard I judge all other restaurants by. I've been out of Dallas for 2-1/2 years and today found 2 new favorites!!! (See below) Atmosphere is inviting with nice upscale decor. Well layedout buffet with double sided salad bar and split mains buffets. In between the 2 mains buffets is the bread area. Customers move around easily and the lines aren't long due to the layout. Plenty of staff keeping everything clean and ensuring the buffets are full. Very attentive too - removing dirty plates only when you go back for more... or if it's obvious you need more table space. ($25/person - and worth every bite!) NOTE: I love to rip a piece of pita bread and dip it in the hummus and then into the tabbouleh. Delicious combination of flavors. ToGo buffet is available but they charge a flat rate by weight. Be careful - it can get expensive that way, but if your short on time or want leftovers... that's the way to do it. Tables are first-come first-serve... everyone need to be present to be seated. Below are the things I had today. Check their menu for a full list. (Everything below is on my plate photos.) My new favorites!!! 1. Kafta Kabob (Ground beef, lamb, onions, parsley) Great sear/color, very moist and excellent flavor. Get more than one! (And don't forget the onions on the side.) I loved it. (They look like large breakfast sausages, see photo of my 2nd plate - in the 3 o'clock position.) 2. Chicken Kafta (Ground chicken, bell peppers, onions, parsley, soy sauce) Very nice. Lovely. Unique seasoning profile yields a delicious bite every time. Very subtle gentle heat aftertaste, not salty - all flavors! Much better than the chicken kabobs in their flavor and moisture. Awesome! Safran Chicken (Safran/garlic sauce) Perfect! Put it over the safran rise. Excellent flavor, not a thick sauce but covers the chicken enough. One of my favorites for 15+ years! Falafel Small muffin size with a quick fry. Firm outer layer is thin and crunchy. 80% is the inner soft part which gives you a stronger flavor profile compared to thinner and more heavily fried versions. This is much better - don't skip these! Tabbouleh Perfect!! As good as it gets - fresh and flavorful. Slight lemon profile is a delight. Hummus The best I've had. Soft and creamy - not too dense like so many others. Light drizzle of olive oil. Pita Bread Warmed and kept under a heat lamp. Fresh, soft and delicious. Chicken Kabobs DRY! Hard to eat and all flavors are lost or muted because of that. Not as salty as in the past - used to be extremely salty. Looks great visually but it does not deliver. Sad, but these have always been super dry ever since I started eating at Ali Baba's way back when. I hope they can figure a way to fix that. It has real potential otherwise. (Again, we discussed a change in cooking technique that might help...) Wine Don't miss the Ksara Ressrve Du Couvent red wine. Excellent choice and exclusive to Ali Baba's. (Special import) It's a medium weighted wine with delicious dark berries, hint of vanilla and very subtle tannins (only a 1 of 10... barely detectable). I love it!! A great addition to you meal. Overall rating, 8.8 out of 10. SHOUT OUTS...... Chris (manager) is awesome! Say hi - he will ensure you have everything you need and have a great experience. Junior (staff) - be sure to sit in his section for excellent service. He spoiled me without talking to me or being invasive. He is attentive and was nice when I called him over to compliment him. See my Yelp profile page for a Best In Dallas list: https://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=KbFb7BxxJfHmHG3P-jY1CQ&utm_source=ishare

Yelp
We have been coming to Alibaba since it was down on Greenville in Dallas. My wife and I dined there last night. The food was OK but the service or lack there of was absolutely miserable. The restaurant has changed to buffet service but obviously has no idea how to handle it. We ordered two drinks but the restaurant manager at the bar just was just talking to two people and completely ignored our order. A nice waiter finally got us our drinks. There were few people there for a Friday night. The business future does not look good.

Yelp
Service:I came in for the weekend lunch buffet (11am to 3pm). Service was great. The hostess had her toddler daughter with her propped on the hostess booth. Her service did not suffer at all. I admire a business that makes accommodations for a working mother. Kudos to them! Food: Food was great but the standout was the chicken kabob.I absolutely loved it! The kabob was so well cooked, tender and the marinade was tasty. Just falling apart as I cut into it. Cooking them so well for a buffet is something to really praise. The other kabobs and items were good too but they don't compare to the chicken kabobs in my opinion. I woukd say this is the best chicken kabob I have had in the DFW area and I eat Mediterranean food a lot. I am sorry Ephesus restaurant, you have lost the chicken kabob crown. The hummus was creamy and tasted as well. Again probably the best I have had so far in DFW. I have no idea how they got it to be creamy. Ambience: There are plenty of tables and a bar area. Great for groups or catching up with a friend. Only talking about the buffet time. Value: The buffet cost $22.94. A little high compared to other buffets but given the taste and freshness, I would say it is worth it. You should definitely head here to try the chicken kabobs :)

Brent M.

Yelp
Really good food. A little expensive. But real. I will definitely eat here again. Will be a spot in my food rotation.
google avatar

Lupe J.

Yelp
Omg I can't say how much I enjoy dinner and lunch here! My favorite items are their chicken kabobs, Mediterranean salad and cauliflower! Those three dishes are great for sharing and healthy imo! The service is amazing as well! My only gripe is that they close early, but tbh we shouldn't be eating that late.
google avatar

Lily H.

Yelp
I really enjoy going to the lunch buffet, which is available on weekdays and weekends. The buffet is all you can eat. There is a good variety of meats and sides and is all well seasoned. The staff and help are all very friendly. They are efficient in helping clear your table so you can go and enjoy more food! I love their pudding dessert with a touch of cinnamon on top!
google avatar

Kenlyn J.

Yelp
So we used to frequent this place when it was over in Irving and it was basically a weekly pilgrimage. They have all you can eat and it's a huge buffet and the food is just absolutely amazing. My favorites are the gyro meat and the falafel and the tabouli, but honestly, I've never had anything that wasn't Less than awesome. Definitely worth a trip to Dallas for ...
google avatar

Victor A.

Yelp
We went here before a performance at the Eisman Center. Our server was Tia and she was on the spot with introduction and drinks. We were all hungry and the entire table all ordered the Chicken Marsala, with the me as the exception...I got the trout! Everything was yummy and delicious. The bread was fresh and the hummus we got was creamy and flavorful. We made it out with time to space to make to our performance down the street! Keep up the great work! Been a fan since you all were here in Lower Greenville! :)

Irit S.

Yelp
The dishes were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. Every bite was a testament to the care and expertise that went into the preparation. The variety was incredible. One thing that stood out was the sheer abundance of food. There was more than enough to satisfy every guest with generous portions, ensuring no one left hungry. Thank you, Marcus for all the help and everything that was provided. Much appreciated. Irit

Yelp
The food was excellent, and the restaurant was very accommodating to my dietary needs. The service was aalso excellent and added to the very relaxed ambiance.

Yelp
Food is awesome. The bathrooms are a dangerous, slimy disaster and have been for months.
google avatar

Yelp
If you're new to Mediterranean food, this is the place's to be. Buffet style foods with variety of option to pick from & freshly made . So far this is the best Mediterranean buffet in DFW I had. Definitely recommended to anyone
google avatar

Robert H.

Yelp
Good bang for the buck. Somewhat of a cafeteria setting but food is good. The green salad was great and the Saffron Chicken was ok. Very nice rice and portions are large.
google avatar

Josh O.

Yelp
My top go to spot for Mediterranean food . Located off 75 in Richardson, this place can be easy to miss if you don't slow down well in advance. It is right in front of the bowling alley before you get to the stoplight before Campbell road . The service here is very friendly and the ambiance is very chill here. Everything is freshly cooked and the taste is so authentic . I switch between the saffron chicken , the kabobs , the flat breads and the lamb. Honestly, everything is good and filling. So good it's gusty to tats e good the next day. Weekends they have self service and it's at a lowered price ,which I think starts in the afternoon . A must visit restaurant.
google avatar

Jon K.

Yelp
It saddens me to write this, but in an effort to save a penny, they've decided to get rid of straws. Seriously? Straws! How about charging a nickel more instead? We love this place, but a straw-free environment is just plain silly for such a great spot. Next thing you know, we'll be sipping soup from our bowls!
google avatar

Kari B.

Yelp
Best zatar bread ever!! Also the best baklava. A few of us went for a Saturday lunch and it was packed. The food was incredible.
google avatar

Jay W.

Yelp
First time here. Wow! Taste buds are going to have to need a nap! So many different flavors and textures. So many great veggies and salads. The lamb kabobs were 1st class. The Greek yogurt chicken was also great. Rice pudding for the win! Great place. It deserves a spot in the rotation.

Kevin G.

Yelp
Food is consistently flavorful and fresh with no excessive sodium. Staff attentive and dining area cleanliness is impressive. Discount for Veterans!
google avatar

Elaine M.

Yelp
First time back at buffet since covid! A small buffet upon first glances but a mighty selection and robust flavors. My favorite was the meat skewer and grilled chicken. I also loved the olive salad and hummus. For dessert, one must try the rice pudding! I haven't had rice pudding in over 20 years! We had a party of 12 and they were able to accommodate us on a Sunday afternoon! Bonus!
google avatar

Keven W.

Yelp
I wanted to come here for the buffet during dinner, but found out they only do lunch for the buffet. But I decided to come here anyways and eat in. I ordered the lamb chops and the waitress gave me bread to eat while I wait for the food. I finished the 2 pita breads due to waiting and then she asked if I wanted more and I said sure why not and then she gave me 3 more pita breads and some hot sauce. At that point, I wanted to try the hummus and it was really great. I got the lamb and it was really great. It was a little over cooked for me, but it ended up being good. Maybe it was because I did not eat it ASAP and enjoyed the hummus so much. The lady saw I finished the other 3 pita bread and she asked if I wanted more and I said no as I was really stuffed. Service was outstanding and great and I can not wait to try the dinner buffet.

Yelp
Lunch buffet is amazing. Lots of fresh dishes to choose from. Food is all most excellent. My eldest son lives in NYC and kept saying "yum" after each bite. We are willing to drive 25 miles to eat here. Quality is the best.

Wenifredo L.

Yelp
Bring your out-of-town guests here to impress your friends. Food: great Service: good ( don't come in close to closing since they don't refill buffet if bot necessary) Ambiance: original

Samuel F.

Yelp
We love Ali baba and have been customers since they were on Greenville Ave. Our experience last night was awful. They were having problems with their ordering system so they said that they only had the buffet available but if the problem was resolved they would be serving the regular menu. We went to the restaurant and the regular menu was available which was fine. We sat down to order and were told that they were out of Pita bread. How is that possible for a mediterranen restaurant to be out of Pita and why didn't they tell us on the phone when we called for a reservation. We were extremely disappointed and probably not be back.

Yelp
OMG what is it with TEXAS and the most AMAZING MEDITERRANEAN BUFFETS!?!? Discovered this place through Yelp on tour in Dallas. I'm vegan- so , I figured Dallas would be tricky... This place is Mecca! So many plant based options! And so delicious! Veggie moussaka!
