Alibi Room - Review - Railtown - Vancouver - The Infatuation

"The Alibi Room is in a warehouse next to an old train line, and while that sounds like somewhere you might be brought after being kidnapped, it’s actually where you’ll find one of the best and biggest selections of local craft beer in the city. It’s always busy and usually loud with people talking about things like “milkshake IPA” and “IBU.” Though if you have no idea what any of those things mean, just have the bartenders help you pick out a flight. The Alibi Room is the perfect shortcut to trying out the area’s local breweries before heading to them later, like Strathcona Brewing Company and Parallel 49, or if you’re up for a day trip, Brewer’s Row in Port Moody." - Shelley Mason

Alibi Room | Bon Appétit

"GO HERE: to hang with all the East Van beer-loving locals. There’s an impressive 50 taps of both local and imported craft beers at Alibi Room, and they all have your name on them. ORDER: something from local breweries Four Winds or Brassneck, the latter of which is run by Alibi’s owner, Nigel Springthorpe. Get a burger or the jalapeño chicken “samwich” with fries, if you start to feel hangry. THE VIBE IS: laid-back and friendly, with life buddies, work buddies, and plenty of flannel. You’ll overhear deep conversations about everything, from new video games to upcoming canoe trips. Despite its large industrial-heritage digs, Alibi Room is still crowded most nights, so you might have to wait a few minutes outside on Alexander Street before ordering your first brew. PRACTICAL STUFF: Open every day: Monday to Thursday, from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.; Friday, from 5 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.; Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. (brunch from 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.); and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. (brunch from 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.). Reservations are occasionally taken, but there are a lot of rules. We prefer to just walk in. —Lindsay Anderson" - Condé Nast

It was my first time coming here kind of by accident. Went in right as they opened and there was a decent happy hour menu from 4-6. The beer selection was pretty good a ton of options on tap that I don’t usually see. Mixed drinks were good as well , especially liked the whiskey sour. The other one I tried was a blended mango margarita and it was just perfect not overly sweet. Also tried calamari and it was tasty but found the portion to be slightly small for the price. Service was super friendly and orders came out really fast.

To begin, Pouya is the most, raddest server I have experienced this summer in Van! Drinks came on time, water was here to start in a crystal clean glass, food came out in promenade fashion and hit the mark every dish. Of course it was Happy Hour (4-6pm) and after a flute of 8 different beers on a 30° outside, summertime day— the world suddenly becomes your oyster! So! I recommend ¹any traveller to Vancouver and every Vancouver localite, to stop by this patio and take a load off the week, day, hour...whatever the case my be, you deserve to be pampered with a good time and the loonie starts here. 10+ 5 stars, perfection.

The Alibi Room is a popular gastropub located in the Railtown neighborhood of Vancouver, known for its extensive selection of craft beers and relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Established in the early 2000s, it has become a destination for both locals and visitors who appreciate quality beer and innovative pub food. Craft Beer: The Alibi Room is renowned for its rotating beer taps, featuring an impressive lineup of local and international craft brews. They often spotlight small-batch and experimental beers. Food Menu: The menu blends classic pub fare with contemporary twists, including dishes made from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. The space combines a rustic-industrial aesthetic with warm lighting, giving it a cozy yet lively vibe. Its historic building adds to the charm.

It was the first time we were going to this restaurant to celebrate a friend's birthday. It has a very nice and chic ambience with a great selection of beers! We actually were lucky to meet the manager who was a gentlemen with a kind attitude .He got us free shots when he realized we had a birthday. Will definitely go there more often.

This place is a gem.The warm and cozy atmosphere sets the tone of welcoming, relaxed, and full of character. It feels like you’re dining at a friend’s house. The food has that homemade touch, and the tray of appetizers is a must-try beautifully presented and packed with variety. Add a great beer selection to the mix, and you’ve got the perfect spot to unwind. Definitely worth a visit, and I’ll be coming back soon.

I recently visited The Alibi Room and had an amazing experience! The vibe is cozy yet lively, with a great balance of character and charm. The beer selection is one of the best in the city—tons of local craft options that change regularly. The food was delicious too; everything was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable, making the whole experience feel personal and welcoming. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in the area!

Google
Boy has this place gone downhill. Alibi room used to be an amazing place for one off and collaborative local beers and an amazing fresh menu. Tonight is the first time I’ve visited since the new ownership and I’m sad how much it has changed. Firstly I made a reservation, but it wasn’t entered in the system. It didn’t matter too much as they weren’t busy, but after we were seated, throughout the night, servers needed to constantly be flagged down for orders and more than once brought the wrong item to the table. At one point a server even told my friend that something he ordered wasn’t on the menu when it was and he had already ordered it. The beer menu is a shadow of what it was— still local but mostly the easy to find varieties. The real offender is the food menu. Everything seems to be cooked from frozen now. I ordered a chicken sandwich that was still ice cold in the centre. I was comped for the meal, but even the fries and beef burger seemed to be reheated frozen imports. Bad service bad food. What a shame for what used to be such a great spot.

Yelp
Absolutely careless and pathetic. This legendary spot has fallen so far from where it once was its almost unrecognizable. The beer menu is pathetic, the servers are indifferent and the ambiance is boring. We visited here recently for dinner and the service was truly pathetic. We later found out that our server as a floor manager and that she was dating the bar manager. Nepotism at its finest. There were two servers on, a bartender and approx. 6 tables to serve. It was quiet and we visited around dinner time. This would have been a great opportunity to meet your guests, get to know them maybe suggest some of your features or favourite menu items, but none of the above was done. We were a burden to her day. Perhaps she was going through a tough time and having a bad day, but did we deserve to be on the receiving end of this....no. The food was okay, but don't order the olives. what a joke. The drinks were okay, nothing special. The service and the care for our experience was pure garbage. We are hopeful that the new owners can make moves to restore this landmark spot to the way it was or we fear the Alibi room will be closed soon. Sorry, not sorry for leaving this feedback, but you all need a huge wakeup call. We wont be back.

Yelp
Went here twice in the month of November for two different birthday celebrations and only had beers. The first time I went was on a Saturday evening without reservations and for a party of 12! I was sure that we were not going to get in, but to my surprise they had a table available on their bottom floor! Their bottom floor has a bar where you can order drinks and food. I did not order any food because we just went there to grab some beers, they have an extensive craft beer selection as well as cocktails. I would recommend this place for a laid-back evening with your friends to grab beers and casual meal. The second time I went there, I sat upstairs which was also pretty nice! They have dim lighting making it feel pretty intimate. I didn't get up getting any food that time either, but I'm sure of going back there again and order their meals. Overall, both the times I went the service was fast and friendly.

Yelp
If you're looking for cool vibes, delicious food and amazing beer selection - go here! I had the pretzel bites and damn they were great. everytime i come there's a new selection of beers --so good, it's hard to choose. Now for the ambiance, it's one of the coolest vibes in town! It's railtown meets gastown, feels like you're in a movie or something. Great service too!

Yelp
Really friendly service, casual dining that's great for happy hour, and great beer selection, Came here on a Friday night and it wasn't hard to get a table. Spicy mango margarita was potent and yummy, and the poutine was delightful! Best poutine I have had in CA so far. Also, the wings were very yummy - could have used a thicker sauce (but that's coming from a TX girl) but had such a great vineagar-esque zing to it. Would come here again!

Yelp
We had a classic alibi burger which was pretty good. The burger looks small but it is pretty filling. The rigatoni rose blush was excellent; highly recommend. We also had the crème brûlée which was OK. The place is trendy and plays music on the background. Street parking seems decent. The service was very attentive and professional.

Yelp
The Alibi exceeded all expectations. Typically we go to a place like this because we love craft beer, particularly local. Ans we eat the pub food because we're there and we're hungry. But while the Alibi has local craft beer in spades, the food really, really surprised. Everything had such remarkable powerful flavors. Loved the atmosphere, loved the communal tables. Only complaint was it's rather loud, but tolerable. Bottom line: go here. You won't regret it

Yelp
A little away from the busier downtown squares, feels like a real "local" place in contrast to all the crowded tourist restaurants. Sit inside surrounded by sunny windows or sit outside and watch an endless stream of folks walking their dogs. Small pub menu but everything was exquisite; the pork belly, the fries, the pasta. Great variety of beers plus good cocktail service. Perfect place to refuel after a day of traveling.

Yelp
Fantastic service on a Sunday afternoon for a family of 6 from Maryland !! The manager and the server were so warm and welcoming. They were patient and friendly even though they had a full house and were down a server. We will definitely come back for the great drinks, food and service! Loved the tequila!!

Yelp
Great place for beer and snacks. We heard good things about the poutine but didn't get it. The pretzel bites were good not great and the portions were small. Service was good and the music wasn't so loud that you're yelling at the person in front of you. Definitely worth a visit - and they do private events!

Yelp
The place looks cool but food was ok and service was subpar. We came inside right when it opened up at 5pm, however a friend got stuck in a traffic so we decided to walk outside for awhile and not sit cluelessly. The stuff told us we couldn't reserve a spot. When we came back the place was full, then we had to wait for some people who already reserved not to show up. Stuff didn't explain why - that I consider that an unequal treatment!

Yelp
Such a great room, but be ready to sit with others (reminds me of the roundhouse at the top of Whistler..back in the day). Classy...but not too classy. ;). The staff set the tone. Service is soooooooo welcoming its almost unvancouver-like . Cocktails are excellent. Kitchens staff are "former" Ask For Luigi.

Yelp
@jasonsalwayshungry Alibi room always brings the quality sour beers im after, but this crispy Pork Belly Sandwich with hoisin glaze, cabbage & carrot ginger-sesame slaw and jalapeño jam was beaming quality, 2 pieces of pork belly over lapping, perfect crisp on the pork and a flavour matrix that took this sando easily into 9.2/10 rockets #gastown #vancouver #britishcolumbia #alibiroom #alwayshungry #foodcritic #foodie #porkbelly #vancouverfoodie #vancouvereats

Yelp
Big fan of this place, mostly for the great craft beers. The food is pretty good also - I honestly wouldn't recommend coming here just for the food if you don't plan on drinking simply because there are plenty of restaurants around that have more interesting menus, but I also wouldn't recommend skipping the food if you want to come here. The food menu here is relatively small, but they have some good choices. I've tried the veggie burger and stir fry. The housemade veggie patty was quite good and all the toppings went well with it. The stir fry was also tasty, but too oily for my taste and a little heavy on the noodles. Some people seem to be crazy about the fries, but they're just basic shoestring fries to me. I also had a dessert platter some time ago that I don't remember much about other than everything on it was delicious. The beer though! Before COVID they had a ridiculously massive tap beer list and it seems to have shrunk a little, but it's still a lot and I find it helpful that they organize it by type of beer. Every beer I've tried here has been the among the best I've had. There's a little bit of something for everyone and if you're not sure what to get the staff seems happy to make recommendations. Flights are popular, but if you don't want a whole flight they let you order individual drinks in "mini" 5 oz portions, which is good for me because I don't like to drink a ton but still want to sample different things. The vibe and service are both great. The restaurant has an open, sort of industrial interior, with an upstairs at street level and more seating and another bar in the basement (the basement is surprisingly comfortable). As of my visit yesterday (September 2021) they still have safety dividers up between tables which made me much more comfortable with the seating arrangements. The staff has been very professional every time. Last night, our waitress was generally pretty attentive but somehow difficult to flag down only when we really needed something, but otherwise she was good and I've only had positive experiences with the staff in the past.

Yelp
we recently enjoyed 2 great meals at theAlibi Room on our stay inVancouver. the restaurant has a great urban vibe in a beautiful historic building. We loved the food, and the menu is really eclectic. Craftbeer selection is very good. Our service was prompt and friendly, making this a repeat stop when we return to Van. Judy S.

Yelp
Came here for post dinner drinks. The interior was spacious with a warm, cozy vibe. Service can be a bit slow but the food and drinks were on point. We got the beer tasting flight, which was an interesting concept with four different beers in small glasses. I only ended up liking 2/4 of mine but you can definitely ask the server to customize the drinks to your preference. The highlight was actually the dessert! They only have one dessert on their menu but make it sooo delicious. The lava cake was incredibly smooth and decadent, and paired along so well with the bourbon ice cream (I wish I can buy this in pints, so good). Would definitely come back again for this dish!

Yelp
Delicious burgers, beer, and the traditional Canadian fried were a delight to consume. Will definitely come back if I have the chance. In addition the ambiance of the pub was very calm and welcoming to the guests.

Yelp
Reminiscent of a beer hall with the long benches in the main dining area. There's also a downstairs area accessed via a spiral staircase where you'll find more cushioned, intimate seating, a stage, and another bar. Not sure if they serve the entire tap list down there though. A little disappointed that they did not have poutine on their food menu, but their tap list was quite extensive. It might have made up for the lack of a decent small bites selection except for the fact that nearly everything I asked for on the sours menu was 'out' or came with an annoying disclaimer next to the beer of 'UP NEXT'. Some tell you when they'll be released (most on Friday), but others do not, so what's the point of even listing it? Anyways, I did like their flight deal of any 4 beers in 4oz tasters for $12 (plus tax). They also have a rating system for each beer with special illustrations for its sourness, darkness and hoppiness. I wasn't so impressed with 3 of my beers, but the generically named 'flanders red imperial souuuur' from Storm Brewing was decent. It claimed to be the strongest, darkest, most sour beer on the menu and it lived up to it. A mix of jammy and dry black currant with notes of licorice and caramel created quite the sour bomb. I was seeing stars which deserves some applause. It should be noted that they had a vast selection of hoppy beer. Stouts and ciders barely make it onto the menu though. I get the sense that this is the gathering space for plenty of rare beer releases. Proud to see that they were set to showcase a Modern Times beer in the near future even if that beer was only 'Blazing World'. Solid, late night spot to chill at and if you're lucky, you might be rewarded with some rare finds.

Yelp
Haven't tired their food as didn't really want to wait for another 30-40 min to receive it. Came in with my girlfriend, ordered couple of drinks and had to wait, literally, for 30 min for them to be arrived. Actually I had to go myself to the bar and ask if they have been made finally or maybe they forgot about them. The light is too bright for such a place. The music wasn't loud enough. Was hard to hear it, so the ambience felt like a diner: bright and no music. When the drinks finally arrive, I had a taste of mine, which was clover club, and unfortunately it was crazy sour. Seems like they tripled the lemon portion of it. I might try it again, but so far the service in terms of timing and the flavour of the drink wasn't good enough (

Yelp
We liked this place so much we went back. To me its the quintessential gastropub. SMALL but excellent food menu, including specials. Beer list is excellent with a wide array of local breweries to try. If you like beer and food, go to this place. The neighborhood is on the border of sketch, so don't stray to far east.

Yelp
Visited the Alibi Room with friends today. A beautiful patio on Alexander St. They have ample of beers on tap that would keep you intrigued. Food at the Alibi room is nice too. The beef burger is a must have. Though, i did not really feel the same about the chicken wings. Service is quick and the staff is very friendly. Plenty of street parking right next to the restaurant.

Yelp
This was the first place I ate upon arriving in Vancouver and settling down in my hotel room. My friend and I walked from the Fairmont to the Alibi Room. It was a decent walk, beyond the usual reaches of Gastown, but totally worth it. According to my fellow Yelpers, this was the place to go. I was afraid the kitchen would be closed or it would be too busy because we were there late, but we were seated immediately. The whole restaurant was candlelit, creating a lively and romantic atmosphere. Too bad I wasn't on a "date" with my friend. I started with a Superflux "Colour & Shape" Hazy IPA to drink, which a decent choice. Not as hoppy as I usually like. It's lighter and fruitier as the name would suggest. For food, I couldn't resist getting the crispy pork belly sandwich, which contains kimchi mayo and pickled vegetables. The pork belly had the perfect ratio of fat and crisp. Everything about the sandwich was delightful, except how expectedly messy it can be. My friend had already eaten, so he just got skinny fries with garlic chili oil and housemade ketchup. Tasty as well! There were a bunch of other items on the menu that I'd probably enjoy more if I had a chance to relax and decompress after getting off the plane. Though it was a little far just to walk for a drink, it would have been fun, perusing their endless selections of beers on tap. Excellent service and super cool vibe. Would totally come back here again!

Yelp
We order the Molten Chocolate Lava Cake, it had a very nice consistency, the centre complied with what was anticipated; warm and gooey. We also got some drinks and a burger, they were good. For a pub/bar, was pleasantly surprised with their food and food selection. Nothing over-the-top amazing, would give 3 and a half stars because I wouldn't come here solely for the food, more for the ambiance.

Sharon T.

Yelp
Fun bar and restaurant. Excellent food and drink. Terrific staff. We really enjoyed our time there.

Yelp
Lovely pub in Vancouver's Gastown. I really liked the atmosphere and the service was fabulous. For me, this was also the first time in a while that I truly enjoyed the craft beer served. My favorite was the Raspberry Rose Ale.

Yelp
I can here for weekend brunch before the lockdown happened around the end of March. With concerns around COVID, it was nice to see the restaurant diligently cleaning up after every group (even wiping down the salt and pepper shakers) and sat everyone with plenty of social distance. I ordered their eggs benedict with tomatoes and brie cheese, topped with pesto instead of hollandaise. It was delicious and the perfect amount of food for me to finish my plate while not being stuffed or needing more. The pesto was the real highlight for me as it was a unique choice and I generally love pesto in anything. My sister got the eggs benedict with salmon which was good but not anything special. The server was hard to flag down at the end of our meal but overall, the atmosphere was great!

Yelp
My chicken sandwich was perfectly crispy and delicious. The fries were crispy and hot. And my wife's squash salad got high reviews from her. An excellent dinner all around.

Yelp
We tried a couple of flights of cider and sours, they were wonderful, there were only one or two that we didn't think were special! My husband had a hamburger and fries, and I had the warm squash, lentil and kale salad. It was a terrific combination! Also loved the charcuterie board with the homemade crackers, and unusual meats and cheeses (seasonal).. this place is a little off the beaten path for tourists, but still quite popular!

Yelp
Best meal we had in Vancouver! Started with a glass of Pinot Noir and a Sour Beer. The raspberry sour was, unfortunately, a bit more sour than I'd like. I should've asked for a taste of it before committing. Oops! The Pinot was fantastic :) At $11 a glass, it was a steal! The steamed Brussel Sprouts had a perfect amount of bacon and seasoning with them. Had they been steamed longer, it might've been dicey but they came out perfectly, they weren't mushy but rather firm and delightful! The warm Squash Salad helped us reach our goal of having SOMETHING healthy while on vacation. The variety of ingredients created a lovely and nuanced flavor profile. The Chicken Wings were okay. I didn't ask if they were breaded and fried, or naked wings with sauce. I don't like breaded wings and unfortunately they were. This is on me, I should've asked. The seasoning they rested on was good! The Pork Cheeks reminded us of braised short rib, but with better flavor. Absolutely the best dish we had and would go back just to have it again. For dessert, we had their chocolate lava cake with homemade bourbon cheesecake ice cream served over crushed graham crackers. The Ice Cream was, hands down, the best ice cream I've ever had. The lava cake was incredible. One of the best overall desserts I've ever had. Amazing night, fun place! Can't wait to return on a future trip to Vancouver.

Yelp
Neat atmosphere, good pub food. Service was good and the food came fast. Sketchy neighbourhood, but there was security. The veggie stir fry was heavy on the noodles, not much tofu, veggies were fresh and crisp, the flavour was good. Veggie burger was made on site, different (in a good way) with a bit of a spicy kick. The fries were cooked to crispy perfection.

Yelp
This place is amazing! So sad we found it or last night in BC. The menu had to many great options on it. Food was delicious, atmosphere was comfortable and somewhere intimate even with shared bench tables. The staff are very friendly and attentative. Low lights, lots of candles. Good selection of beers, sours and saisons. Can't wait to visit again.

Yelp
I'm sorry but I am not a fan. The vibe is fine ( a bit grungy for my liking) but the food menu and drink menu was meh. I could not find one decent vegetarian dish or side on there. No fries?!? This is unheard of to me. The waitress was really nice and offered me a side of potato chips and dip, even though it's not usually offered as an appetizer. That's one star right there. Oh wait, there is a small teeny tiny bowl of nuts you can order. lol Besides the nice offering of chips, the service was really bad around 10 pm. It took forever to get another drink, or even find our waitress. Sorry girl, you're so nice, but maybe you're too strained between tables. It was pretty dead though lol. The other star was that I found two beers that I actually liked. Other than that, if you don't like craft beer this is not the place for you. If want to avoid meat, this is not the place for you. I don't ever want to come back here. There is no reason too. I say check out the menu before you venture there. If you're a regular customer, lol...well enough said.

Yelp
We came to this place after getting high recommendation from a local at a café. The ambiance is good, vibrant, and you'll see trains passing by right outside the window. They have an amazing selection of beer on tap and it's always changing. We each had a flight of the beer. For food, we had the mussels with garlic bread, and blue cheese salad. Both were pretty good. This place is really popular. The waiting time on a Friday night is about 45 minutes for walk-ins. Make reservation in advance to save time.

Yelp
Brunch at "The Alibi Room" in Gastown The Alibi Room is located in a red brick historic building. It is after 2:00 pm and the cacophony of diners offers a lively buzz to the shaker style atmosphere. We are offered immediate seating at the bar (tables are full). Menus are clear and after a brief perusal has one imagining the taste of a seductive custom draft on tap. Natasha (totally dedicated) explains the choices of local draft beer. Atmosphere is unique. We sip libations as Red Union Pacific train passes out the window in front of us. We order the fresh fruit (see photo) and "The Salmon Benny" along with a draft beer. English Muffins (Benny) were crisp and the handcrafted Hollandaise by Chef Craig was delectable. Fruit is succelent and the raspberries are a nice spin on the typical fruit and yogurt offering. My rating is 4.5 Stars on "The Alibi Room." Definitely a fun and lively "Alibi Room" offering good cuisine, service and awesome music "Abba's Dancing Queen" enlightens our spirts during our meal. Hope to be back for dinner and another great dining experience in pleasant Gas Town. Cool side story: When confronted with my out of battery phone (had a photo taking storm earlier) Natasha said no problem and plugged it in for me. Thanks so much! No smirks just good service and kindness.

Yelp
I've been to this place several times in more than a decade, and it still lives up to its stellar reputation. In fact, I think it's improved. I love the atmosphere and decor of the place, the service is good, the beer selection is vast & local and the food selection is great. This time I was here for brunch. We had mimosas, French toast, an egg breakfast sandwich and chorizo over potatoes. We were were all very satisfied with the food and drinks. The service was friendly and timely. In the past, I've come by for appies, meals or just drinks. It's a great atmosphere (modern industrial) and suits any time of day.

Yelp
Kind of away from all the bars in Gastown, but what a fun find! The roommate and I walked here after dinner on Sunday, January 17th, a little the after 9pm. We sat at the bar for drinks and an after dinner snack. *Strange fellows' "jonguleur" Belgian style whitbier ($6.75 large) *Tofino's "tuff sess" amber pale ale ($6.75 large) Since they had an extensive beer list, I decided to try some brews. I basically told the bartender I'm normally a fan of Belgian whites so she suggested the strange fellows. It was a little lighter than I wanted so she suggested the tofino as a follow up. I wish they asked me what size beer I wanted as I really wanted the smaller sizes. I had a hard time finishing that 2nd beer. *Nikka pure malt black: Japan ($16) *Double house bourbon ($8.50) The roommate had been drinking straight pours all night so he just stuck to that. He was still a little hungry so we ordered the Charcuterie plate: daily selection, house condiments, warm breads ($17.50). Good assortment of meats and condiments. If I were hungrier, I would have been all over this dish. Great bartenders and a fun place. I noticed people getting beer samplers, but I didn't see it on the menu. For a beer novice like me, I probably should have gotten a sampler instead of two large beers. Maybe I'll use this as an excuse to come back! Note: They have free WiFi! Just ask for the password.

Yelp
+++ - 5 star service - The waitress jotted my preferences and crafted me the perfect tasting menu list ++ - Beer list is super extensive - I forgot what I drank, but hey were all good It's really a matter of taste (Hoppy vs IPA vs Stout etc...) - Champagne cider was nice - No wait around 10pm on a Monday + - Fries were good, but I expected better - They were a good snack

Yelp
Great spot. Amazing beer selection - it's basically heaven. Prices decent for this type of place. I had a burger which was great and decent value - burger plus huge portion of fries, plus coleslaw for $15 (can you tell I've gotten used to crazy Toronto prices). I'm taking off 1 star cause the service just isn't at a 5 star level. Some confusion and lack of communication from the hostess as we were being seated, and took awhile for waters to be refilled, etc. I'll still be going back though!!

Yelp
I've been wanting to visit this place for a long time and finally had the chance. They are super popular so getting a spot during the week is easier obviously. Even though they don't take reservations for less than 48 hours, we learned that they open up 3 spots per day for reservations so check the website still if you're looking to reserve at last minute. A person like me, who is not a beer fan, I was pleasantly surprised by their beers. You definitely have to go with a flight for the first time here (and maybe for your other times too). They have quite a large selection and very different varieties. My two favorites from my flight were the Blazing World Hoppy Dark Amber Ale and Out Of The World Pineapple Milkshake IPA. I just loved how balanced was Pineapple Milkshake IPA. I also tasted my friend's Fanny Pack. It was a light, moderately hoppy and slightly citrusy. Definitely getting that next time, it was fantastic. For food, we had the Mezze Plate and Meatballs in Tomato Sauce with Garlic Bread from Fresh Selections. Both tasty but not mind blowing. Portions were good for the price. Service was a little slow but not a deal breaker. Overall one of the nicest spots for beer and appies in town!

Yelp
They were super busy when we got there but were able to get a table right away. Ordered their lentil yam salad and it was amazing! We were on vacation so I won't be having it again but still crave it. Guess I need to find something comparable online.

Yelp
I love the alibi room. The only reason it loses a star is because it only has one item on the dessert menu. It's a very chocolate-item, and it's delicious (because I love chocolate) but not everyone in my party does. The beer list is incredible. If you're here for the beers, the only other places that are somewhat comparable are: St Augustine's, The Magnet, and 33 Experiment. Big beer list full of sours, stouts, porters, lagers, lambics, you name it.

Yelp
Excellent. Had been recommended this by fellow travellers and not disappointed. Huge range of craft beers. Limited food menu but more than adequate and it was all freshly prepared and of excellent quality.

Yelp
We came here while visiting for the weekend and were very impressed with the beer selection! Didn't get any food but everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked great! The staff was friendly and helpful, the place was cute and very clean, good atmosphere and not too crowded, plenty of seating. The next time we're back in Vancouver we'll be coming back for round 2!

Yelp
My coworker and I popped into Alibi Room before Monday's Canucks game. We got there around five, just after they opened, and I'm glad we did because it definitely fills up fast. We chose a spot at the bar for convenience (we were sure if we were going to get just drinks or drinks and dinner). The place has a dim, hipstery ambiance and sits right on the train tracks. It was a chilly night and there was a strong draft from the front door that made me want to keep my coat on. Brr! Their beer selection is top notch, and we let our bartender choose a flight for us. I let him know that I like sours, light and fruity beers, dark, rich stouts and porters, and no IPAs. His selection was on point, including a sour, a horchata porter, and even an IPA that he snuck in there (it was my least favorite of the bunch, but I'm always trying to expand my horizons). I'm still thinking about that horchata porter! Our bartender was seriously the best, helping us with both beers and directions to the arena. He made the experience! We also ordered some bites: she got chicken wings (both flavorful and plentiful) and I got the crispy pork belly sandwich. It wasn't bad but wasn't my favorite...something about it didn't seem to come together, but the pork belly itself was tasty. I would definitely come back for the beer selection alone!

Yelp
Craft beer success in Gastown. In this part of Van City it seems you could throw a stone and hit at least a dozen decent places to have a beer. Being the discriminating beer geek that I am, I wanted a bunch of taps and local craft brews. Alibi Room had a selection that dwarfed the other places we checked out. It was crowded for brunch and we grabbed a few seats at the bar. The barkeep was friendly and chatted with us, pointing out the great IPA he had on cask. That was all I need to hear for round one, Red Racer's Cascade IPA. It turned out to be the best pint I had on our trip. Driftwood Brewing's Farmhand Saison for my wife. While the brunch menu worked for me, the little lady needed a lighter option and the kitchen helped out with her egg white arugula scramble. I enjoyed a delicious Smoked Salmon Benny with roasted potatoes. I know most folks would likely pair their brekkie with mimosas or bloodies, but not us. We saw many of the local brews we hand sampled on our vacation on their taps and were able to sample and try a few more. Tasters were in front of us after a simple mention to the bartender, nice touch! You can also get a flight to try a few out. Round two for me was the North Coast Brother Thelonious Dark Abbey Ale and Tofino Brewing Company's Hoppin' Cretin IPA for Kris. Loved the Alibi Room and it will be our first stop when we're back in town. Cheers.

Yelp
This review is just for the burgers, the beer is still great. You see, I used to think this place had one of the best burgers in the city, but something's changed. Maybe it's because the owner isn't there much anymore, focusing on a new restaurant, but it's just sloppy now. It used to be cooked medium, with crisp toppings and sharp cheese, but now the patty is fully cooked, tough and dry. The bun is cold and the toppings are brutal. The lettuce was spring mix and the cheese was tasteless. Really too bad. RIP.

Yelp
On a recent visit to Vancouver, my boyfriend and I decided to consult yelp to see what bars we should visit. And you did not fail us with recommending the alibi room! I've never considered myself a craft beer person, or even particularly a beer person, but the Alibi Room has made me a convert. They have SO many beers on tap, of so many different varieties, and even tell you how hoppy each beer is, so anyone can find something they'd enjoy. I had a Brassneck "Multiweizen" Hefeweizen and a Four Winds Belgian Tripel, and they were probably the tastiest beers I've ever had. Now I'm heartbroken that I won't be able to find them in the states! I guess that's the downside to locally sourced craft beer.. The food was pretty good, too, and is more interesting than typical bar food. I can recommend the fries and the chicken wings--and if you get both, try dipping the fries in the chicken wing sauce! They have a very nice atmosphere, definitely dark as a bar should be, but with a slightly higher average age (I'd say mid-to-late 20s), it wasn't the type of place where'd you have to worry about getting spilled on or anything. Definitely more of a chill and friendly place, which I really appreciate. It should say something that the bathrooms were clean and I didn't have to wait for 15 minutes to use the toilet. In addition, even though this is place known for craft beer, the staff is not snotty about it by any means, and help you out if you don't quite know what you're looking for. Our waitress was awesome and honestly made our experience. We will definitely be back next time we're up in Canada. Update (10/25/16): It's now been a while since my first visit to Alibi room, and the love affair continues. I've been back almost every time I'm in Vancouver, and I recommend it to every one of my friends who goes up for a visit. Everything I love about Alibi is still the case--service is amazing, beer list is 10/10, and the food is on point. Most recently, I tried the pork belly sandwich, which was juicy and crunchy and tangy in all the right ways, and the stuffed pork loin off the fresh list. They somehow manage to make amazing staple bar food with creative twists that satisfies me urge to try new things. Yassss Alibi room.
