Best Restaurants in Cambridge’s Inman Square | Eater Boston

"The quirky style of the signs hung across the front of All Star Pizza Bar and sibling restaurant All Star Sandwich Bar is part of what brings the charm of Inman Square alive. All Star Pizza is a reliable neighborhood staple for a huge cheese slice on the go or a whole pie with elaborate toppings and plenty of vegetarian and vegan creations." - Karen Wilber

All Star Pizza Bar - Review - Inman Square - Boston - The Infatuation

"Just like it’s sister sandwich shop across the street, All Star Pizza comes up with pretty unique flavor combinations to put on pies - think meatloaf and red onion jam, or butternut squash and roasted red grapes. If you don’t want a whole pizza, daily slice specials are available as well. For just under $5, you’ll get a “slice” that’s more like a quarter of a pizza, but that’s one technicality we don’t complain too much about." - Joel Ang

Google
3.5 stars I recently ordered takeout from here and the plain pizza was decent. I've tried some of the speciality pies before and those seem to be much more flavorful and popular relative to the classic cheese pie. If you're looking for a classic pizza place, I'd probably look elsewhere, but for more exciting flavors I'd go here. I did have to wait longer than expected, despite ordering on the phone beforehand. I was told someone new was working on the pizza and had burned it. I was in a bit of a rush, so this was frustrating. Not a typical experience, though, I'm sure. Last thing is parking here can be challenging, because it's a very busy street.

I got the Funky - Meatball slice. Huge slice! Fast service. Great Pizza.

Google
Pizza is awesome. They have some very unique and original pizzas that are delicious The basic pizzas are very tasty and full of flavor as well. Always fresh with a good crisp. Not too thick not too thin. It is on the pricier side, but it's worth it for the quality.

Google
One of the most creative and flavorful vegan pizza selections that I've ever seen and I'll definitely be back to try everything. Large portions with thick fluffy crust, and the sauce and toppings are so savory, this place always hits the spot.

Google
Nicely located on the corner of Cambridge and Prospect st in Inman square. The pizza is considered gourmet for sure. They probably have the most toppings I have ever seen. The crust is somewhat light and airy. The place serves individual slices but they look huge. Probably more like double slices or a quarter of a pie. They offer some seating inside and customers can get drinks including beer.

Google
Last time I was here, I didn’t really like the pizza But today was my 3rd time. And they said 3rd time is the charm. The pizza I got today was So Fresh!! Juicy too. No burnt back-side. Perfect! Also, Cooked with care. The receptionist was very welcoming. This place definitely gets 5/5 today.

Zachary “Zacarías”

Google
I got the cheese and veggie slices. Fiance got pepperoni and funky slices. We loved all of them! Also really appreciate the selection of vegetarian and vegan friendly options. Great crust and tasty toppings, what more could you want? (No pics because we ate too quickly 😆)

Google
Great place for a quick slice of pizza in Inman Square, Cambridge. Slices are big, and the crust is on the thinner side. They have drinks and sell beer. $3.75-$4.75 per slice depending on what you get.

Yelp
Do you need a funky pizza? You've got friends coming from out of town, and they're wondering, "why should I move here?" You order a pizza from this place. They take a bit of dog and arugula, and abruptly they realize there's more to life than Dominos and pepperoni. It's a gem. Tell others.

Yelp
We enjoyed two absolutely delicious pizzas. The Ms Piggy's fig was one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten. Such a great combination of flavors. My son had the pepperoni and added pickled red onions. The red sauce is amazing. Another winner. We'll definitely be ordering again.

Yelp
Obsessed with all the unique vegan pizza options! I tried the impossible SPO which was delicious, highly recommend for plant based pizza :)

Yelp
Still some of the very best pizza in Cambridge and Somerville! Again, we had the Miss Piggy's Fig and again it was AWESOME. I need to try some of their other pizzas, but it's so hard to beat "awesome." OMG - I need more!
google avatar

Yelp
Good big pizza! I got rid of a star as it is pretty pricey, considering it is located in Inman, I really wish there would be somewhere cheap to have good pizza in the area, everything is so expensive nowadays :(

Yelp
This is a super cool and funky spot for pizza. The interior was painted in all sorts of fun colors. Being from New Jersey, I'm fairly particular when it comes to my pizza. It's been difficult to find a New York style slice in Boston, but the pizza here was actually better than I expected. Really happy to find out I didn't need to order a whole pie, so it's super convenient for grabbing a bite on the go. In terms of the actual pizza, the slice was pretty decently sized. It was a bit greasy, probably from the pepperoni, but not outrageously so. The sauce had a sweet flavor, but in a way that I actually enjoyed. The cheese and crust were fairly standard. I would go back to try some of their other pizzas - looked like they had tons of fun toppings!
google avatar

Erin K.

Yelp
There are so many unique toppings I want to return for. Food I've tried: - MISS PIGGY'S PIZZA ($25): pizza topped with prosciutto and figs. The crust was fresh, soft, and perfectly chewy. There was a generous portion fo toppings. The prosciutto added saltiness, balanced with the fig's sweetness. I personally gave 4 stars purely for the flavor of this pizza as it was a bit too salty for my taste, but I do have a lower salt tolerance. Atmosphere: - Cannot comment as I ordered takeout. Service: - Cannot comment as I ordered takeout. Overall: - Would not mind returning for the other flavors.

Yelp
This place was SO busy on Friday night and yet they had my pizza ready to go when promised. Over the years I have kept coming back to All Star and at this point it is obviously my favorite spot to grab a slice. If you are in a hurry, they offer several slices to go and while the cheese is a staple, the meat, veggie and vegan option always offers something creative and new. And when I say slice think 2 slices - they are known for cutting their pie into 4! Easy parking outside, always quick and friendly service. Yes, All Star you deserve a 5 Star!

Yelp
This is good pizza! The ingredients are quality. Dough is super fresh, soft and delicious. It's definitely sauce heavy, but the sauce is good so you won't mind. It's light on cheese, again because it's sauce heavy but still a solid pizza. It's a bit messy/sloppy so keep that in mind when serving kids! Speaking of kids, this pizza is 4 year old approved. Will definitely order again!

Anna S.

Yelp
This place, the quality of pizza IS excellent. I love their solid cheese slice (a solid slice of cheese pizza is not to be taken for granted), and they are impressively creative about their slice of the day toppings.
google avatar

Yelp
Satisfying, fresh tasting slice with a Diet Coke for under $7. Got a veggie slice - it's a 4 star slice but it's big and at this price I'm not complaining. Friendly staff too. I didn't have it but they also had great meatless options like tofu and Impossible meats which I always appreciate. They also had vegan options.

Yelp
I've been a pretty long time customer here and it has always been pretty solid. However lately the staff all changed and while the folks are nice and all they have their music on pretty loudly- this in itself isn't an issue but they aren't able to hear me well when I call in an order over the phone. Despite having to repeat myself several times the order was still wrong (had cheese for somebody with mild allergies) so we just had to pick the cheese off ourselves. It's a shame since we've usually had good experiences here, but please if you can't hear your customer well over the phone and ask for multiple repeats then maybe consider turning down your music volume before taking down the wrong order it was good tunes though as far as I can tell over the phone. 3 stars for sentimentality

Yelp
*This review is regarding a Doordash order, I have never physically been at the location and therefore can't comment on things such as customer service or interior. Food: B+ Price: B+ ~Food~ Full disclosure, I am a native New Yorker and I'm EXTREMELY picky with my pizza. With that said, I did find their pizza pretty good. The flavor was almost comparable to something I would get at my local shop on Long Island. The con is that the crust was SOOOO very thin. Granted, some people might look a thinner crust (and it's probably objectively healthier for you) but for me, it was a letdown. ~Price~ I think their prices are about average, however, like I mentioned before the slices were extremely thin, so you ultimately get a less filling pie for the same price as a thicker one. ~Overall~ I like them enough to go back though I'll still be on the lookout for a better slice.

Yelp
Best pizza we've ever had. Went back for a second box! We got the sun dried tomato margarita and was so pleased.

Yelp
I've ordered from here several times over the past year and have finally decided to write them a review (after I finally remembered to take a photo of my pizza ). Disclaimer: I have only ordered their Ms Piggy's Fig pizza and it's because it's so good! This is my go to pizza whenever I see it on a menu and it might be the best one in the Boston area (although I still think Wildfire's Fig Pizza in Mashpee, of all places, is better). However, I'm not making a 3 hour round trip drive for pizza and so All Star is my go to for the fig and prosciutto pies. They look like they have other pizzas that sound good as well (I've been meaning to try the Buffalo Duck Confit pizza). I'll probably update this once I try it. The inside looks very unassuming when I come by for takeout. Looks like a neighborhood pizza place. Prices are definitely up there for pizzas at ~$23 for their specialty pies, but ingredients are top notch and their large is definitely...large. I'd definitely recommend at least for the fig/prosciutto combo pizza and I'm sure the others will be pretty good as well.

Yelp
I love this no-frills little pizza shop! Off the beaten path and serving up some great pies. I had a slice of cheese and my boyfriend had a slice of the Buffalo chicken. Both were delicious and the shop and staff were both incredibly fitting to the vibes!

Yelp
8:30pm I asked to order a whole pizza!!!! They said slices only!!!! No whole pizza. And they close at 9pm. Bad service. Overrated $$$$$$$ pizza anyway...
google avatar

Enya L.

Yelp
I love this neighborhood pizza place! Every day they have 5 different pizzas slice to buy: pepperoni, cheese, vegan, vegetarian and funky. Their funky rotates through their whole pie menu. It's usually very interesting and delicious. I've tried a few of their vegetarian slices and they are surprisingly yummy as well. The crust is on the thinner side but the slices are big!! All star is perfect for adding some spice to a casual pizza night!
google avatar

Yelp
Convenient, ties are to All Star Sandwich. Pizza is ok, it's not bad but many local places that are better. I think they get away being associated with their sister restaurant. Good ideas but sub par delivery, neither Neapolitan nor New York, soggy base, I want to love it but can't. Reach further in my view

Melinda H.

Yelp
The pizza was really outstanding I highly recommend it!!!! I had double cheese double sauce mushrooms and Kalamata olives it was a perfect combination and the crust was very tender and fresh. I can't wait to eat the whole thing. Krishna liked it too. So did Kirby I'll definitely come back

Yelp
My boyfriend and I order vegan pizza from from time to time, and I think it's my second favorite local pizza shop after flatbread pizza company in somerville. Their pizza is not cheap- a vegan pizza is 24 dollars - but we can usually split one between the two of us unless we're especially hungry. We've tried: - Baked and Tofused: A solid vegan pizza. I love this one cold the next day. - Son-of-a-choke: A vegan white sauce!!! Extra points for having that as an option. The actual pizza is really tasty. - Sweet n' Sassy: Boyfriend loved it, I thought it was too spicy, but I'm a wimp about heat. - Queen Margo: Basic, but solid. The only flavor we haven't tried is the Big Jerk, which we definitely will at some point, albeit without cilantro. Overall, I'd say that All Star Pizza Bar is solid, and a good place to come with friends or grab pizza to go. My tip: get one tomato based pizza and one bechamel based pizza and then put one slice of each together like a pizza sandwich. The tomato goes so well with the bechamel. I'll also eat leftovers like this the next day.

Yelp
Great pizza place in Cambridge! Each slice is one quarter of a medium sized pie, so bring your appetite. Crust is thin and crispy, and seasoning has been great for the slices I've tried. I wish this location had more seating, but it's still a great option for takeout. Considering there aren't many quick pizza options that serve up good slices in Boston, All Star is a great option for a quick pizza fix.
google avatar

Remy G.

Yelp
The pepperoni slice is the perfect quick meal for lunch. Slice is very large and it was delicious and served quickly. The pies look great too. UPDATE: Been coming here now for a few weeks and come a couple times during the week. Close to my work. The pizza has not let me down- consistently good every time. Staff is great! Always clean inside and good service. The pies are great too!
google avatar

Yelp
All Star Pizza delivery has become our go to during quarantine. Love all their specialty pizzas but the butternut squash pizza and the redhead (pictured) are favorites. Best pizza around!
google avatar

Alison Y.

Yelp
Delicious filling pizza with very unique toppings. My personal favorite is the Red Head, potatoes on pizza is an unexpected but tasty combo. The Buffalo duck pizza is also another common choice.

Yelp
Really, maybe 4.5 stars, but extra credit for they're being generous with their slices on the too good to go app. We managed to try their slices once on that app, and were intrigued enough to order 2 whole pies a few weeks later (tonight). And wow, their whole pies (Miss Piggy & Red Head) were even better than their slices! No shading their slices, but their whole pies? The crust? Exquisitely chewy and with just a little crisp - We do live very nearby and did pick-up (they text you when it's ready, when we ordered via the slicelife.com) - so we got to eat it at its most optimal done-ness. With that, it's hard to imagine much better - the toppings were innovative, unexpected, and beautifully balanced (sweet, spicy, salty, tangy, umami, just-the-right-amount-of-decadent-fatty). For the area, the prices are maybe a little high, but the toppings make it seem warranted, and I'm sure it's been hard for small businesses with rising costs, so all in all, 5 stars. Of note, the whole family preferred Miss Piggy (the unexpected Fig/Balsamic/Prosciutto/Goat-Cheese/Arugula insanity - so good), though we also liked Red Head (red sauce/steak/onion-jam/roasted-potatoes/horseradish-cream-drizzle - not too hot/spicy, so don't worry about the horseradish).
google avatar

Rishabh K.

Yelp
I like their pizza. It is thin crust and properly baked. I would recommend cheese pizza to start with and see how a simple pizza can make you day.

Yelp
Thanks to the Coronavirus, this was the perfect opportunity to do some takeout. One of my friends who moved here from San Francisco, spoke highly of this pizza. So we decided to do a takeout of the pizza from here. The menu is pretty big and you can find many options, full of meat, vegetarian, and even vegan-- however you like it. I tried two specific pizzas. The red head with some great meat and the duck confit pizza with black figs and basil -- absolutely loved it. The flavor and sauce is great and the crust is made just the way I like it. Not too thin, but not like really doughy. I'd totally recommend this place for pizza. Support small businesses during this time and enjoy their takeout food.
google avatar

Tracy C.

Yelp
Good for a quick bite of pizza! I paid $5 for a slice of the funky pizza of the day which was Margherita with prosciutto. Didn't really taste like Margherita... the basil was dry flakes when it's typically fresh basil. They do have a lot of topping options if you're looking to get an entire pizza. My slice was also a little burnt but the taste of it was alright.
google avatar

Yvenna C.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick bite on Friday night. Seating was a little hard to find, but since it's a fast casual place (many people come for one or two slices and leave as soon as they're done eating), we were able to find seats quickly enough. We tried the pizzas by the slice - the Funky and the Veggie. Each slice is around $3.75, but by slice it's more like 1/3 of a pizza, so you get great value for what you pay! I really liked the Veggie, which is surprising because I'm such a meat-lover. The white sauce on the Veggie was perfection, paired with the mozarella and tomatoes makes a delightfully savory and at the same time light pizza. The Funky was good too, although if you don't like sour notes on your pizzas, then it might not be for you. The dough was thin and crust was very crunchy, which I also enjoyed. I'll be back for a quick and cheap bite!

Yelp
I'll admit I didn't try any of the crazy pies this time around (a couple days after their opening) but I was a bit underwhelmed by the pizza we got. We got a pie with sausage, onions, peppers, and mushrooms which is a pretty standard combo, right? What All Star Pizza Bar does differently is that they cook the veggies beforehand so caramelized onions, roasted peppers and mushrooms. Unfortunately, this didn't result in an amazing pizza; I actually prefer a pizza where the ingredients aren't pre-cooked. That being said, the crust was light and thin although not all that crisp and the sauce was pretty darn good. But it can't compare to the original Pizzeria Regina. In the end, I was a bit disappointed and wondered why half the ingredients on the specialty pizzas weren't available a la carte. Not really worth the $20 they're charging but maybe they're still working out the kinks.
google avatar

Samantha R.

Yelp
I'm obsessed with all star. I've been coming here for years when my friend lived down the street, frequented again when I lived in beacon hill (second location) and now delivery saves lives. You really can't go wrong here. All the pizzas are amazing. My favorite is piggy figgy and ms. butternut. They provide vegan and gluten free options as well! They offer slices, a cheese, pepperoni and a "funky" and veggie choice. These are great. You get 2 slices as one slice. The funky can sometimes be a little out there but usually pretty good! I only wish I could order them as full pizzas if I ever remembered the combinations they come up with! I only wish they would post what there specials were somewhere online so I could know if I'm getting a slice or a whole pie! They used to be active on social media but have fallen off in the las year. Worth the visit!
google avatar

Ojus P.

Yelp
Really fun flavors. Got delivery and a friend ordered a crazy combination of egg, mushrooms, roasted red peppers and a few other things that are his "favorite ingredients". And it worked! Also got a more standard plain and it was decent. I'm eager to go back and try some more crazy flavors.

Nick S.

Yelp
Great pizza by the slice. Huge slices! You only need one for lunch. Great daily variety with different "funky" and "veggie" toppings every day. Rare affordable lunch option in Inman Sq area.
google avatar

Joe B.

Yelp
Door Dash customer here. I ordered the El Hefe for delivery through DD to my hotel in Chelsea. Pizza looked good. Awesome reviews. Well, when my pizza arrived, it was cold like the driver strapped it to the roof of the car! Now I dont know if the pizza was made too soon and then sat while waiting for a driver, or if it is distance. I'd recommend not making the pizza until the driver gets there or limit the distance you allow people to Door Dash from your establishment. Cold pizza is completely unacceptable. Door Dash was generous enough to refund the order.

Yelp
I dropped by for a late dinner and was intrigued by the lists of pizza types on the wall but less excited by the options offered by the slice. The pizzas offered by the slice also didn't look super appealing, so I went with a slice of pepperoni. It was a generous portion (a single "slice" is easily the size of 2 at most places) and reheated quickly, but I found it to be overly greasy and pretty bland. I came an hour before closing on a Sunday night, so it's possible I wasn't encountering All Star Pizza at its best, but $4 for a super greasy, generic pizza slice wasn't by any means something to write home about. Ingredients didn't taste so fresh, and I almost threw half of it away once my intense hunger subsided, but I then remembered it was $4 and just ate the rest to fill me up. Probably won't be back.
google avatar

Kay Y.

Yelp
Pizza is pretty good (also on the higher side of cost). Cheese is 3.75 a slice. The specialty pizzas (they have 1 veggie and 1 meat option daily) are a dollar more. We tried the meat one and it was good, no complaints. If you want a different type, you can order a specialty pie or a make your own pie, but it's actually probably cheaper to pick one of the slices.
google avatar

Amey P.

Yelp
It is perfect pizza shop if you want to grab a quick bite of some delicious pizzas. Location is ideal, it has nice vibe of a small local business. Shop is not huge, it has a limited seating. That makes sense, as most of the people would prefer to take out their pizza. Taste wise, it has a great selection and most of those I tried were super delish. Big thumbs up!
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
Consistently great pizza, and an all around nice vibe here. If you're here for a slice, I recommend whatever the funky or veggie special is that day. Today I had the Green Gates slice, which had white sauce, baby spinach, sharp yellow cheddar, mozzarella, broccoli rabe, fresh herbs and pickled onion. I'm glad I only ordered the one slice, because it was the size of two. Very satisfying! I also like their beer selection and fresh lemonade.

Nash N.

Yelp
This is among the best pizza places in Cambridge/Somerville. Highly recommend the Red Head. The flavors all come together great: a classic grease-and-meat pizza but all very well balanced. The Ms. Piggy's Fig pizza was also good, but the flavors came together slightly less well: the basalmic drizzle and arugula were a bit sharp.

Yelp
Ahhh my fave pizza in Mass. Perfection. They truly live up to their name and they're definitely getting all stars from me! Every single time I have a slice or 3, my mood shoots right up. Usually opt for the funky or veggie slice of the day. My bf recently picked up funky slices for early lunch - bacon, cauliflower puree, fresh mozz, egg white, thyme, chives and Reggiano. OMG perfect breakfast pizza. Or any time of day pizza! The cauliflower puree was perfectly done - creamy and semi sweet and more of a ricotta cheese consistency. You can't even tell it's cauliflower! Any of their pizzas that include prosciutto or ricotta is solid. They do a good veggie - it's never boring! Weird flavor combos can go wrong but they do it so right. While on the pricier side, it's worth every dollar!! Quality ingredients, perfect crust and portioning. And the slices are HUGE. These pizzas will rock your taste buds. They're relatively quick and friendly. It's a semi small space with some high tops and a couple of bar seats by the window. I would recommend getting this to go - probably better because if you get a couple slices, you'll wanna pig out and order way more. I feel that way every time! They make pizzas worthy of worship and the extra pounds!

Yelp
I love this place. The pizza is fresh the staff a friendly. My wife says the crust is the best she's ever had. 5stars

Yelp
My adult kids and some of their friends, just love the pizza here! I don't eat pizza due to allergies .But I would highly recommend Allstars for good home made pizza !!

Yelp
This is a great Pizza bar serving up some really delicious slices. I had the funky slice of the day- sausage and peppers pizza and it was just great! Have seen places tone it down on the slices but this one doesn't disappoint.

Allie S.

Yelp
Very good pizza by the slice place in the area. Slices are huge and the cheese slice was great. Staff was quick and friendly. Great place to stop by for a quick lunch.

Jade B.

Yelp
I placed an order through GrubHub for pizza delivery for an event. Despite requesting plates and napkins in two different places on the order, they were not included. In addition, their phone appears to be disconnected? I tried reaching the pizza place directly several times to confirm the delivery time and to make sure we would get everything we need.

Yelp
Very unique pizza at this place! Looks like they have 4 different types of specials per day that are available by the slice while a number of different toppings are available for whole pies that can be ordered. The pizza dough itself is pretty much cooked to perfection, just the right amount of crispy and soft. I'm usually not a fan of pizza crust but it's delicious at this place! Toppings are filled with fresh herbs like cilantro, green onions and oregano, very flavorful! Would say it's the most flavorful veggie pizza around town. Had something called funky too which had figs and meat in it, my first fig pizza, it's pretty good, worth a try! Slices for about $4 but portions are very generous, one slice got me pretty full but I could've gone for seconds for sure hehe.. Neat little local pizza shop, staff is very welcoming, perfect for a quick bite.
