I should have known better when I was walking in and an employee walked in ahead of me holding a half-bag of salad and a bottle of sauce.
We were seated right away, and then we were brought some chips/salsa. The chips were good, but needed salt badly. The salsa they brought was a half-ramekin of green gooey sauce. It tasted good, but where was the red salsa?
We ordered some food from their menu and then began the waiting game. It was a Tuesday at 11:30 and the place was 30% full, so the kitchen should have been firing at full speed, but it was not. After waiting a while and finishing the chips, we ordered some more. My companion had a lemon that he used to squeeze juice into his drink, and he had sucked up a seed that he put into the empty chip basket. I also put my straw wrapper in there along with some stray chips that had fallen on the table that we were not going to eat.
Well, when the new basket of chips came and we looked in the bottom of the basket, guess what we saw? THE LEMON SEED. They gave us chips in a dirty basket.
So, as we were waiting for the food, which, did I mention, was a LONG wait, we were noticing the seating in this place. If I could give an award for the most UNCOMFORTABLE seats I've ever had to sit in, this place would win, hands down. I mean, they look kind of Mexican and tropical, but they are completely the wrong chairs for a restaurant. The matching tables have huge supports under them such that you cannot even sit with your legs in front of you. You cannot cross your legs under the table. I ended up straddling the huge table support and hunching forward to eat.
Finally, the food came. I got fajitas and my companion ordered a burrito. When he ordered, the waitress in her see-through, skin tight top, asked if he wanted salsa smothering the burrito. He asked for it on the side, she asked if he wanted green or red. He said he would like some of both. When the burrito came, it was dry, and she did not bring ANY salsa at all. When we asked about getting some red salsa, she actually told us they had RUN OUT OF RED SALSA.
What? How can you "run out" of salsa? Isn't this a Mexican restaurant that serves salsa with everything? Here's a tip...the place is located next to Albertson's. Send someone over there to buy some tomatoes, jalapenos, limes, and MAKE SOME SALSA. Or, run to Costco and buy some more. Well, excuse me for that, but it seems like a simple fix, but I digress.
She then ends up bringing a ton of green salsa and some sort of red sauce that was gross. Wasn't going to eat that. Was it the mystery sauce the employee brought in?
Let's talk about the "ambiance" aside from the chairs. There was a big party in the room, and they were super loud. Not the restaurant's fault, but when they started clearing the dirty dishes from the party, they left them all on the table right next to the party for all of them and the rest of the restaurant to look at. How lazy of the server not to just take that bin to the kitchen. It was decorated decently, they had lights on the walls outlining a a margarita, which was decent. The tables, though, had tablecloths on them and then a cheap piece of plastic on top that moved around every time you did anything on the table. Most places have glass on top, which is nice, but this plastic did not fit the table, moved around, and gave an air of low quality all around.
My fajitas were "okay." The food was cooked, but the black beans, seriously, had ZERO taste. No seasoning, they were so bland. Also, the rice was bland also. They came with a cute tortilla ramekin of pico, guacamole, and sour cream, but the bottom of the ramekin fell right out when I went to move it, so eh, not so cute anymore.
We had been to this place many years ago and it always had a fond place in my mind, but after this hideous dining experience, we will NOT be back.
