Alley & Vine - Review - Alameda - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Alley & Vine in Alameda is exactly where to go for your next celebratory promotion meal or birthday dinner with your parents, whether you're outside on their patio under string lights or inside in the multi-level space. Their menu changes depending on what’s in season, but expect to see things like tender braised short rib or toasted garlic bread with burrata, both of which are excellent and a far cheerier dinner choice than a Kind bar and a handful of blueberries. And the Dungeness crab and bacon mac and cheese, made with huge, thick-cut chunks of bacon and topped with a crispy, lacy piece of griddled cheese, is reason enough to celebrate." - Julia Chen

While documenting restaurants for Alameda Restaurant Week, I spent time at Alley & Vine photographing their standout offerings. I was impressed by their tomahawk steak - probably one of the best steak deals I've seen anywhere. The place is surprisingly family friendly despite its upscale appearance. They maintain a great wine selection that complements their menu perfectly. What's interesting is how it feels like a cross between classic Alameda and going to San Francisco - warm and cozy yet has an artistic elegance to it. The food is underrated for sure, delivering quality and presentation you might not expect.

We had a 12pm reservation on a Sunday but had to wait an hour for our appetizers and 90min for our mains. The food was great, but the wait was not. Attention management: do better. We sat outside because it was super loud inside with many parties with kids.

Recent reviews were mixed, but it was a good experience for us. The location outside below the stairs and next to the parking was actually cosy with the decorations, very atypical at night. Food was good, even if you can expect more at this price. Service was nice.

New Management, New Menu, Not the Same Alley & Vine My fiancée and I revisited Alley & Vine, curious about its new management and updated menu. We were the only ones there when we arrived at 4:10 PM on a Saturday, so we settled into the patio with our dog. The service was slow, although we appreciated our server's helpfulness with my fiancée's allergies. The menu seemed basic, with typical dishes like steaks and chicken breast. I started with three Blue Point oysters at $4 each, which were plump but flavorless. They came with cocktail sauce and lemon, which were necessary to add some taste. My non-alcoholic mockarita was too tart and surprisingly came with a sugar rim instead of salt, which thankfully made it a bit more palatable. We shared a 16-ounce ribeye steak for $62, which was a letdown. It was overcooked, not the medium-rare we asked for, and lacked the quality one would expect for the price. The broccolini was nicely done, but the chive oil mashed potatoes and pepper jus were too salty. The shoestring fries were crispy yet needed more salt, though the ketchup was good. Dessert was uninspiring, just like the rest of the meal, and the smaller patio space was a disappointment compared to what it used to be. Overall, our experience was underwhelming. The previous charm of Alley & Vine seems to have been lost with the new management. We won't be returning, and it's sad to see a former community staple decline.

I think this was the worst restaurant experience in Alameda for me so far. The service was very nice, but the food was below average, and, considering the price, very bad value. We came in for a light meal, and got French onion soup, appetizers, and a beet salad. 1. The French onion soup was served with burnt blow-torched cheese on top, but lukewarm underneath. Felt like something a cheap cafe could do, but not a sit-down restaurant. The flavor was below average overall. 2. The calamari were like rubber, very average presentation. 3. Salad felt like something that came out of a bag from Safeway. Overall, pretty disappointing experience.

Tell you what, if you ever decide to grab a good dessert, this might be the place. Along with the good wine selection and excellent cocktail bar displays offers a wide variety of sweet goodies to complete your dinner. I dropped by just to please our sweet tooth, and we were pleasantly surprised with multiple ice cream and cake choices. Along with that we got our favorite drinks and left as pleased as we could be. I would gladly be back for the complete meal experience.

Alley and Vine in Alameda offers a delightful culinary experience that tantalizes the taste buds. The cioppino and ribeye steak were exceptional, showcasing the chef's skill and attention to detail. The calamari, perfectly cooked with a light, crunchy batter, was a standout appetizer that left us craving for more. The cocktail menu impressed us with its creativity, and the 'Very Sexy Martini' quickly became my wife's favorite. The ambiance was inviting, and the service was attentive, making our dining experience truly memorable. Alley and Vine is a must-visit for anyone seeking exquisite cuisine and top-notch cocktails in Alameda.

What a wonderful surprise! Welcomed with warm hospitality and customer service- even on the busiest of days. Seems so rare to authentically be welcomed into a restaurant or business in the current environment. People were overflowing- lines out the door. Staff being kind and caring; going above & beyond to offer attentive service to the patrons filling the tables. Service took time. The kitchen was pushed to the max. Even so… the plates coming out were piping hot, beautifully plated and quality. We ordered the steak, olive oil & chive mashed potatoes with broccolini. Melt in your mouth, distinct flavors. Absolutely outstanding. The food & cocktail menu is fresh and creative! But, I go back to the people: the staff. As a business owner, I know that the heart of any business comes right down to the people. Sitting at the bar gave me a birds eye view of the dance, the hustle and the care put into each order, each customer and each table. Hiccups happen. But, how the recovery happens shows the true culture within the restaurant. The leadership and the staff that was giving their all at every moment… with a smile. I highly recommend this restaurant. Alley& Vine will truly be my go to when visiting Alameda. Restaurants this caliber are a rare gem. Bravo!

Yelp
Came across this place because my girlfriend and I wanted somewhere with Italian food and wine and, aside from Tomatinas, this was the next closest restaurant. We ordered: calamari and broccoli Peach salad with scallops Fettuccini Pork & Veal Bolognese Mi Corazon Cocktail Moscow Mule Vanilla Bean Gelato w/ an espresso shot on the side Mango Sorbet Everything was delicious. Well balanced seasoning and portions were more than expected for all the dishes. The broccoli could have been a dish on its own for how well prepared it was. The only thing I took a picture of was our drinks because I felt some kind of way about taking a picture of every course. Nonetheless, I feel like the precise menu means you won't be disappointed with whatever you order. Id definitely come here again. The only thing that took us by surprise was the price of everything but after how enjoyable the food was, it made sense and made it worth the cost.

Yelp
Made a reservation to try this local restaurant with my husband for date night. I made a reservation through yelp. I think there was a glitch though when I made the reservation because the restaurant didn't see the reservation. The host looked concered but it was completely not his fault. I tried to confirm the reservation another 3x and it didn't work. This is at no fault on the restaurant or any of the staff! After the wonky glitch, we got seated. We looked over the menus and ordered: -Calamari and Shrimp Fritto: the squid and shrimp had the lightest batter I have ever tried. But the batter didn't take away the flavor from the squid and shrimp. Super yummy! -Hubby ordered: Fettuccine Pork and Veal Bolognese. The veal still had its gameiness but the pork helped to cut that. The cook was perfect and super delicious. I ordered: Cioppino. The portion was generous. The seafood was cooked beautifully. The sauce was delicious. It came with yummy toasted bread. Ordered a side of broccolini to had some greens to our meal. Simple and delicious. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Alley & Vine was recently acquired by the owners of Ceron across the island (which we love), and they seem to be off to a pretty strong start! We've been in on several occasions since the transition took place. I'm delighted that they open early for breakfast/brunch - 7am. Not many places on the island are open early for brunch, so this is a niche that desperately needed to be filled. When we came in for brunch recently, I had the herb and cheese omelette - fluffy and delicious, easily one of the best omelettes I've had. Most places overcook omelettes to the point they're brown and rubbery (yuck), but here the omelette is made in French style - soft, fluffy, and cooked just through, not beyond - yum! They have a small and cozy bar area, where we've enjoyed having some drinks and light bites, while chatting with Trevor, who is a pleasure. I want to visit for dinner too, but I'd love to see some vegetarian entrees on the dinner menu please! Until then, we'll keep popping in for breakfast, drinks, and lighter bites. Looking forward to following A&V as they develop under their new leadership.

Yelp
I was happy to find out Alley and Vine opens at 7am for breakfast now. I was greeted by Jacob, he is so friendly and attentive. I got the 2 eggs over easy with bacon and sourdough toast it came with delicious home fries and I asked for fresh brewed coffee. The eggs were perfect the best I've had in a long time, the bacon nice thick and crispy just how I like it, and the potatoes were scrumptious. Compliments to Chef Javier for the amazing food and Jacob for the great service. I definitely will be coming back with my family for brunch and with my girls for some nice dinner and drinks. I loved the bathrooms so spacious with nice big mirrors and fully stocked and super clean. I recommend this place if you want to enjoy a nice meal while relaxing in the heart of Alameda.

Yelp
This place is soooo pretty and modern, outside is beautiful as well, it's a bit "hidden" but easy to find. Went for brunch and had their waffle, it was a good size we shared as an appetizer and it was soft, warm, with fresh strawberries. Benedict not my favorite, but my friend mentioned her eggs were good, I think my favorite part was the orange juice, it was literally squeezed fresh orange juice I had 3 and wish I had more, service was good too

Yelp
Super cute spot in Alameda. Beautiful outdoor seating area and a really cute interior. Service is super fast and friendly. I had the huevos rancheros and it was delicious. Good serving size as well.

Yelp
One of the best I have had grilled free-range chicken breasts (tender and moisture) on toasted sourdough bread with sliced avocado, tomato, red onion, and English cuccumber. Served with mixed spring salad, with a touch of vinaigrette dressing. Can't get any healthier than that!

Yelp
I'm sad that I'm writing this review because I really want to continue supporting local business but I can no longer say this place is worth going to. It's really gone downhill and the price has gone up way more than it's worth. Our filet mignon was clearly frozen, almost $60, the burger also frozen was not great and the salmon was very fishy and had no flavor. When they first opened we were so excited because moving from SF, we missed amazing quality nice restaurants and this place hit the spot. Sadly over the years the quality has really gone downhill. The staff though as always were wonderful. I hope something changes but until then after several meals here over the years this was our last one.

Yelp
I haven't been to alley & vine since moving to alameda over 2 years ago but decide to go to celebrate my partner's work anniversary. Service is 10/10 Karina J was our server and she was so kind, welcoming & attentive. I noticed she was also making our drinks and her espresso martini was very well made! Food 9/10 The spring menu was great we shared the poached pear salad, fettuccine bolognese & filet minion. All the dishes had great flavors and were definitely shareable.

Yelp
It's my son's birthday, five of us went there to have dinner. The lady, Karina is very nice, she serves our table, really patience, always have smile on her face. We ordered appetizers: Yellow Tail Crudo. Alcoholic drinks. Main dish: Filet Mignon, King Salmon, Cabernet Poached Pear with Salmon, Cioplpino, Ribeye. We finished all of them, it's so tasty, not salty, everything is good, even the whipped potato, vegetables and Risotto. Desserts: Cheesecake and Tiramisu , too. About $80 per person, including tips, it's really worth. I'm sure we'll go back again.

John A.

Yelp
Very bad experience. Service was mind numbingly slow and the food was a joke. The eggs Benedict were cold, overcooked, and with barely any sauce. The rest of the food wasn't much better. This place is a must miss.

Yelp
Fabulous night out with delicious food with unusual parings and flavors. Our waiter was super friendly and delivered outstanding service. We enjoyed the modern atmosphere and appearance. We had only dined outside before and this was the first time dining inside. I enjoy the ever changing menu each time I come. This is a special occasion restaurant.

Yelp
My friend suggested we try this place out because they had Mocktails on their menu. They have a small parking lot, but the entry way was really great. All our food items were delish and the service was amazing. I was really happy to see they had Mocktails and even happier that they were really tasty. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning.

Yelp
It was our first time here and the server was helpful and provided some recommendations. Started off with cocktails that were flavorful and delicious. Unfortunately, we weren't that hungry so shared the smaller plates. We started off with the Halibut which was crisp and fresh. We got the lobster bread that was sooo good. We didn't expect it to be fluffy and full of flavor. The scallops and fried chicken were tasteful and good too. Overall, the food was presented elegantly and with lots of layers of taste. I ended with their take on the espresso martini with pumpkin, so good, and perfect dessert. We were impressed with the every plate we got, we will definitely be back for dinner.

Yelp
The service is terrible. The prices really high. Servings very small. No tequila in the margarita. Waited an hour for her to take our order waited an hour for drinks. Half hour for water! Didn't get dessert we're done at 10 don't bother

Yelp
Pretty solid meal, some dishes better than others. I've been here a few times now for both brunch and dinner! They have a nice parklet outside to dine at as well as indoor dining. This review is for the dinner service. Excellent service, we were greeted right away. The waiter was very knowledgeable. Cocktails were delicious and well balance. Also, I tried their wine which paired well with the food. For dinner, we had the caviar puff bite. It's a favorite of mines and I have it for brunch too. The shrimp toast was very fresh but I guess not quite what I expected. It was a bit breaded and heavy but I assume that's what the recipe was for. It's kinda like a piece of bread with a shrimp cake inside. We also had the ribeye and side of veggies. Steak was prepared perfectly as a medium rare as we requested. At the end, they brought out a candle and little jellies for my birthday on the house. We were full so we didn't get any dessert. Good experience and this is on my list of regular spots in Alameda for good quality, service, and ambiance.

Yelp
New management and it is not the same. There's not even an alley anymore .... They took away the cute outside seating : S/b named just VINE. RIP. You'll be missed, real A&V. Warning to all: this is no longer the place.

Yelp
Our first stop at the Alameda Beer stroll. Alley and vine is a cute little restaurant offers more than just seafood and cocktail. Today's samples were beer and fried chicken sandwiches. Beer is refreshing and crispy which compliment well with the hot chicken sandwich with the cool cabbage slaws. Services were pleasant and friendly. Outside seating area is cute and breezy.

Yelp
A lovely solo experience...the yellow tail carpaccio was to die for. My server Jacob I believe was amazing, very kind and great reccomendations. Best service I've had in a while. Mango gelato, and wafer cookie was a simple and delightful finish. Picked pear salad was eh, and the maple biscuits could have been warmer and fresher. Other than that it was an all around wonderful night at Alley & Vine

Gregory G.

Yelp
Great food. Awesome service. We will be back! Hidden down an alley but a very peaceful space in the middle of Park St.

Yelp
Food is great, and drinks are amazing. Location is beautiful and nice too. Kinda confused about their happy hour situation, but they were nice and made it work

Yelp
This first visit for dinner: 3.5/5 rating This spot used to house Cera Una Volta with its lovely outdoor patio and spacious indoor seating. Outdoors is the place to be as you dine and people watch the locals walking their cute pooches. Our server, Sara and the guy clearing our table was wonderfully professional, friendly and efficient...sadly service from the bar - ordering drinks, receiving them or being told 20 minutes later to not having ingredients (ZEN GARDEN green tea, pineapple, grapefruit, lime) was 'interesting'. Service there seemed a little disjointed and frazzled. Food ordered: C O C K T A I L S Table enjoyed their drinks and ordered 3 rounds S T A R T E R S :: Shishito peppers (2) - simple, with chili aoili :: Shaved brussel sprouts (3) - dried cranberries, pine nuts, pecorino romano, citrus vinaigrette - reminded me of the Costco salad kit - good but a PASS M A I N D I S H E S :: Shortribs (2) - tender, flavorful and petite! :: Petit Filet of Beef (3) - cooked as requested, tender, side of carrots :: Pan Seared Black Cod - flaky, perfectly cooked but under seasoned. The black-eyed peas tasted just that....not much to it so i added the aoili that came with the shishito pepper...oh YES i did! I like a good tomato jam but didn't do anything for this dish...just a preference. :: Wild Mushroom Risotto - rice seemed "al dente" and looked soupy and gummy...but my friend ate it all up. Dishes all executed well and has potential...fish flaky, meats cooked upon request...dishes didn't wow many of us as it was underseasoned or flavors were ok. I rarely add salt to my dishes but coworker asked the server for some salt and pepper; more than 1/2 the table used. D E S S E R T Chocolate Pots de Creme and Creme Brulee - perfect and yummy...we all got our own desserts...oink! This is definitely a special occasion spot (20% gratuity added: $97 to our bill) or a visit for brunch as pricing is on the higher side. Next try will be the branzino dish... Street parking easier a block behind the restaurant with lot Private parking for a doctor's office. I arrived about 6pm but opted not to park but it filled up fast with diners...hmmm.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place but their food was a letdown. I love the location and the aesthetic vibe of this restaurant. With the outdoor seating and stone-brick walls, this place is tucked behind an alleyway that feels a bit like a hidden gem. Service also deserves its own star. However, the food was bland. They tried to spin up some novelty dishes such as popcorn-chicken-spice fish sticks and tuna poke-mole (guacamole). But what I really wanted to ask was if the chef tasted the dishes before bringing it out, because they tasted like nothing. Fish itself already doesn't have any strong flavor to it, so if you're going to dress it up, at least put some spices or salt into the batter (or even after frying it). But no, it was JUST fried cod. The trout from the poke was so fishy and soft. It didn't sit well with me because all I tasted was the rawness of the fish. I feel like it was missing some sauce or ponzu that should have marinated with the fish. Not to mention a piece of fish scale I had to spit out. And the Korean fried chicken had so much potential. But after the first layer of chili powder, they were, again, bland tasting. The yuzu-ranch is only supposed to complement the dish and the chicken should have been able to stand on its own. It was under-seasoned and didn't deliver. It looks like they have a good selection of drinks and wine, but I probably won't be back.

Yelp
3.5/5 rating. Came here a couple weeks ago on a Thursday night, party of 2, and we made reservations beforehand. Our order: TASTE OF A&V WHITE STURGEON CAVIAR herb tart, lemon crème fraîche, basil ($14 each I think - so we each got one) DEVILED FARM EGG smoked trout roe ($8 each - we each got one) Shared the following main dishes: BRAISED BEEF SHORT RIB polenta, haricots verts, mushrooms, crisp shallots ($40) WILD MUSHROOM RISOTTO pea shoots, parmesan, black truffle butter ($29) DARK CHOCOLATE POT DE CRÈME($11) vanilla chantilly And got the following drinks: LAVENDER FIELDS vodka, lavender, elderflower, ginger beer, lime ($14) PASSION FOR LIFE passionfruit, orange, turmeric, sparkling water ($7) Total bill $195 after tax and tip Pros: - Very excellent deviled egg - might seem pricey but this was legit my favorite dish of the night and I would pay $8 for this half egg again. Just delicious and perfect flavor and texture of roe and egg - Drinks were pretty delicious too, very aesthetic - The braised beef short rib was perfectly done - not dry, very tender, with great sauce - 10/10 on presentation - Options for parking in the back lot or at a free lot nearby after 6 or 7pm - Very cute vibes with outdoor seating, kind staff - I like people watching random people walking their dogs through the outdoor area of the restaurant - Cute for date night or girls night - 10/10 dessert above - Really good portions on the risotto and braised beef - we were full Cons: - Service started out great and then after we got the dessert menu, they all of a sudden didn't come check in for a while and we waited ~15 mins before ordering dessert - Felt like the mushroom risotto was overpriced for its taste - it tasted savory but that was about it, nothing special. I've had friends make home made risotto that I fawned over more unfortunately - I felt like the $14 caviar appetizer was extremely small (I know that caviar is expensive, I get it) but also too dessert-like, it tasted more like a sweet pastry Overall - some great dishes, and then some misses. Unfortunate because at this price point I would want all dishes to be A+. Worth trying once if you're in this income bracket and I don't regret coming, but I might not be back until at least next year. Despite cons, I did enjoy the presentation and taste of some unique dishes.

Yelp
This is a pretty cute restaurant. On a rare night my husband and I got to have a real date away from the kiddos. We love them but really needed a quiet dinner alone. We got multiple drinks, grilled octopus and two different entrees. Everything was scrumptious! Our waiter was attentive and made sure our date night was relaxing filled with good drinks and food. A fantastic date night for the books!

Yelp
First time here and had an EXCELLENT time! Great portions, very generous. They don't skimp out. Great service and great atmosphere! Started off with some cocktails. And it went a lil something like this for dinner: Place your bets - bourbon drink - absolutely amazing! Highly recommend A&V CAVIAR CALIFORNIA WHITE STURGEON CAVIAR - great starter to the entire dinning experience Shrimp cocktail- very tasty and just the right amount Gnocchi - really good, the sauce was just how I like it, thick and flavorful HALF DOZEN ROYAL MIYAGI OYSTERS- fresh and great flavor! WILD MUSHROOM RISOTTO - awesome and packed with mushrooms Filet - great cook on the protein and great choice of meat. The sauce on it was also yummy! Desert was a chocolate moose and crème brûlée- Greta way to end the night! Will repeat cabs highly recommended this place!

Yelp
Oh my gosh, I tried alley and vine a few weeks ago and it was really nice. I had the filet and it was cooked to perfection. The flavor was amazing. I ate everything on my plate. The ambiance is nice, the restaurant is clean, and the staff was very nice. I can't wait to go back again and when I do, I'm going to order the filet again:

Yelp
My favorite brunch spot in East Bay! The first thing you'll notice about Alley and Vine is their incredibly lush patio dining area! You'll be surrounded by lots of greens and flowers, almost like you're dining in a secret garden! Alley and Vine is an elevated farm-to-table restaurant. Their menu is hyperseasonal, so items are always changing. This means that their menu differs based on what the chef finds at their local farmer's market! Without a doubt, ingredients are guaranteed to be fresh and delicious. It's great because there's always something new to try, but at the same time, I wish some of their incredible menu items would be around forever! Their brunch menu is truly incredible. I loved their Duck Confit Hash. The duck was super tasty and tender. Paired with sunny side up eggs, yukon gold potatoes, onions, and broccolini, this dish was perfect. Their Eggs Benedict was like nothing I've had before! They use challah bread instead of your typical English muffin, and using chorizo secco instead of ham was genius! I'm usually not a French Toast person, but their French Toast won me over. Amazing texture and lots of blueberries with maple and butter...YUM! They even take Avocado Toast up a notch! Not only does their avocado toast feature a very generous amount of avocado, but they also top it with lemon, dukkah, sesame, pistachios, and mint! How can I ever go back to regular avocado toast now?! One things that's super special about Alley and Vine is that they make their own CAVIAR! The chef and team is completely involved in the entire process--from hand selecting the California White Sturgeons, retrieving the roes, and making the caviar. You won't find A&V caviar anywhere else but here! A must-get!! Great food, great service, great atmosphere! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Came here a few times and can 100% say - all the yumminess in their food is consistent + good vibes and ambiance always smooth sailing. The restaurant is tucked away in a little alley (hence the name) but really has the cutest, rustic and welcoming vibe. Service is always super genuine and attentive, while the menu changes up seasonally but remains new American ++ cocktails are well crafted and have you going for seconds for sure. Overall I think the price is a bit higher than expected for the casual atmosphere but the quality/taste def. speaks for it. Food talk: (1) Oyster Caviar - small, but packed with great flavor/texture. (2) Ceviche - great variety of fish, light and refreshing - tasty sauce as well! (3) Bread & Butter - can't go wrong with infamous acme bread + rich butter. (4) Baked pie special - forgot what this dish was called, but it was stuffed with meat/rice; wasn't our favorite but it was very unique in flavor. (5) Pork chop - soooo good, the meat was perfectly tender/juicy and the sauce was tasty (popcorn on top was a bit weird lol) (6) Rainbow Trout - cooked perfectly, nice curry style sauce with mussels + rice and lime also complimented well. (7) Octopus - good overall, the octopus was tender (although not charred/grilled which is my usual preference), but sauce and veggies added great texture/flavor. (8) Burrata Salad - light and refreshing, dressing was citrusy and burrata added the right amount of creaminess to it. (8) Halibut + clams - also good, the broth was a light seafood flavor and fish was cooked perfectly; also loved the veggies, didn't' care much for the beans. (9) Steak - tasty and cooked perfectly, loved the Chipotle like sauce + roasted veggies Ok. (10) Dessert - BERRY CRUMBLE was delectable + came out perfectly warm with ice cream on top; while the PINEAPPLE UPSIDE CAKE rendition was unique, lots of textures and wasn't too sweet all. (11) Cocktails - Great drinks!! Blackberry Bonfire was so tasty, mezcal based and right amount of sweet/sour - def. a fave. Bittersweet Symphony, Berry fine, and something's guava give were all unique, light, and refreshing with the right amount of booze as well!

Yelp
Wow, they changed ownership (same owners as Ceron Kitchen on Webster) and replaced all the staff. The menu has some of the items from Ceron like the biscuits and burgers. The service was good and drinks fine but the food was inedible. I almost broke a tooth on the biscuits which are light and fluffy at Ceron but like a rock. My wife got the salmon and it was raw. The burger seems to be frozen (or at least preformed patties) and was passable, but not the quality of a good restaurant, especially at that price. You're much better off going to Scolari's. Very disappointing and obviously the comment by the bartender that they took over 3 weeks ago and may have opened too early is true. Don't go here. We know others who have had bad experiences recently so waited a few weeks to see if they worked things out. Too bad, as Alley & Vine under the prior ownership was much better. Hopefully splitting time between Ceron & here doesn't mean Ceron also bad now (our bartender was covering here and said she normally works at Ceron)

Yelp
The food in Alameda is really underrated, or maybe I'm just not in the know. But now you know! I will be strolling through downtown way more often now. Cocktails ($14): Favorites were the Morning Jolt (cold brew, tequila, kahlúa, xtabentún which is an anise liqueur with fermented honey) & It's a Jungle Out There (rum, kiwi, aloe liqueur, vanilla, lime). These were the waiter's recommendations but the others sound great too! Chilaquiles Verdes ($18): You can pick how you like your eggs, and I will usually choose anything with refried beans so I devoured this. Fresh tortilla chips made in-house! Roasted Filet of Beef ($25): My friend was enticed by the chimichurri and it did no wrong. Perfect balanced portion of everything! The filet typically comes medium rare but it's adjustable. BLT Sandwich ($19): The focaccia was made in-house and so good! Light and fresh open faced sandwich, but the price is a bit of a stretch. There's a date stamp on the menu so I figure some items rotate, and I'd love to be back for different seasonal food/drinks. Most people opted to sit outside, though there's ample inside seating as well. Service is on the slower side (drinks are fast), but they seem like more of a leisure brunch place anyway so we didn't mind.

Yelp
My wife and I enjoyed dinner at Alley & Vine. She had never been to Alameda at all. I have set foot on the island probably a half dozen times over a 15 year time period. So we are not familiar with the area other than that it is a quaint place. We were there so I could pick up a bib to run a 10 mile race the next morning. It was an adventure. We traveled by "seaplane," which seems to be a honorific for the vessel, as an homage to when the port received actual seaplanes for the military installations directly adjacent. The name of the establishment is literal minded. People no longer use "literally" in its proper sense, as distinguished from virtually or metaphorically (your head did not "literally" explode if you are talking to me). Here, the restaurant is in an alley, and it has a trellis covered with vines. Hence, alley & vine. We had the fried olives, stuffed with anchovies. We also had the grilled oysters, the mussels, and the steelhead trout. My wife had an alpine cocktail, a new category of drinks we were unaware of, wonderful to learn about (many types, with the alpine liquor). I had the Italian unfiltered lager. Everything was fresh and well prepared. We were in the happy hour seating. That meant better prices. (They don't give OpenTable credit. That is fully understandable. I note it not to complain but to alleviate confusion. I didn't understand why my reservation was cancelled. It's a good deal. They were surprisingly full early on.) The servers were attentive. One had the most elaborate scarification I've seen, a sunburst on his upper chest. The other was gender fluid, with lacquer black nail polish. People all seemed to be having a good time. I'd visit Alley & Vine again if I were ever in the neighborhood. That might not be for a few years.

Yelp
Simple and delicious. Took my family for my daughter's birthday. We all loved it. We sat inside, upstairs. Staff was attentive.

Yelp
We ordered the focaccia, pumpkin risotto, brioche bread pudding, and the Valentine Day's three-course set menu (beet salad, crab risotto, and strawberries & cream). I though that the v-day menu was a bit overpriced ($89) for what you get, and so I was happy that I had ordered à la carte instead. I really loved the pumpkin risotto!! It reminded me of a squash salad, especially with the balsamic drizzle on top. The focaccia had a nice crispy outer crust, however the inside was not as airy as most focaccia I've had. The service was excellent. Overall, this restaurant is best for special occasions and date nights.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed by the dining experience. We waited over 40 minutes for our food, only for it to come and for the order to be wrong (dietary restrictions missed, sides missing). My husband ended up finishing his meal before mine came. The restaurant was pretty empty at the time.

Yelp
Came here for the first time after stumbling across it on my way to the post office. Tucked away in an alley off Park Street, the restaurant has a lot of charm, especially the tables outside. That's where I'd recommend sitting or booking your reservation. The highlights of our meal included the appetizers: Spanish octopus was cooked to perfection and the Caviar bite was the perfect bite. Our entrees were okay. The short rib itself was great, but the bolognese was so incredibly oily as well as the polenta served with the short rib. Overall, I think this is a nice place for special occasions and probably the brunch (have yet to try), but maybe not for a casual dinner out as it is a bit pricey.

Yelp
Keeping it classy! This joint is really nice for the price! I needed a place to take my girlfriend and her mother for dinner. I choose this place because you guessed it, Yelp! I had to impress the mother-in-law, so we had caviar, which was house-prepared. Fresh caviar is unbeatable! Also, the appetizers are legit! From the caviar to the olives! Smooth and flavorful are the two words that come up for me when I think about the appetizers! Treat yourself, don't cheat yourself and get an appetizer before your main entree. We had the tuna, pork chops, and corn soup. The entrees are filling and fabulously prepared. Don't sleep on the sauces! Make sure to taste the sauces with your meat! The drinks were cute! My rule of thumb: try the drinks with captivating names and unfamiliar ingredients. Be adventurous for a change! You are paying for a good time, so come here on special occasions. Lastly, thank you to the host aka the brotha who allowed my mother-in-law to try a rare hundred year old cognac. Of course, I paid quite a bit but the host pulled out a special glass for this experience! This place made us feel fancy! Thank you!

Yelp
Made reservations same day for outdoor dining. Although we were late due to parking difficulties (always an issue around Park St, but who knew there is a small parking lot behind the restaurant as well?), we were still seated upon arrival, despite it being so busy. We ordered cocktails right away, but our waiter was so caught up with his other tables (so busy) that it took 30 minutes to order our food after we were seated. Cocktails were the best we have had on the island, and compare in creativity/execution to some we have tried at Michelin star restaurants. We ordered: -Bread with cultured butter: soooooo good, but the bread punished the roof of my mouth through the next day! Having cultured butter at yet another restaurant inspires me to learn how to make my own glorious golden spread. -trout crudo: the fish speaks for itself and has a cold smoked flavor, and honestly doesn't need the other flavors on the plate. If you like citrus, the fruit pairs surprisingly well with the trout to make it a very balanced appetizer. -duck leg confit: the duck was prepared well and had the perfect crispy skin; the sauce helps bring flavor to the mildly seasoned duck. The turnips were tasty, but with the greens, added even more bitter element to the plate so this dish might be avoided if you don't love bitter notes. -sole: so well prepared once again! Paired better with the sides on the plate compared to the duck leg confit dish overall. As the menu changes, we will be back to try more seasonal dishes!

Yelp
I've had this place bookmarked for awhile so my boyfriend and I decided to have a date night here. First things first, the hostess or whomever was at the front for check in didn't even acknowledge my boyfriend and I, and we were standing RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. Instead, he went to the people who were standing in line after us and sat them down first. So I was already annoyed. We sat outside which was nice. My boyfriend and I got the oyster Rockefeller, prawn toast, Caesar salad, caviar bite with a boiled egg (only comes with 1 so we ordered 2), broccoli, and the 18 oz bone-in ribeye. I also got their island time drink which was very refreshing. Overall, I thought everything was good. The prawn toast was my favorite even thought it was on the heavy side. The bone-in ribeye was also so yummy, full of flavor and cooked perfectly med rare! And cannot forget the caviar bite mmm. The service was kind of slow especially towards the end when we were waiting for our main course and the bill.

Yelp
Great ambience food, drinks. The interior is very modern. I was surprised at how large the portions were for such a posh place.

Yelp
Pretty place with nice staff but underwhelming and expensive food (our bill was $95 before tip for two small appetizers, a vegetarian entree, and mostly non-alcoholic drinks). What we had: - Cocktails: first tried the Mad Hatter Punch. Came in a small teacup that was half full of a pink, watery drink that just tasted like cardamom. They gracefully let us exchange it for a mezcal cocktail, which was smoky and better, but still watery. Also had a pineapple mocktail, which was watery, but refreshing. - Kids' menu: they have one! Which is great. It's a $25 three-course meal (veggies and ranch, chicken fingers or pasta, vanilla Tucker's ice cream w chocolate sauce), which seemed a bit over the top. We passed on it, but we did get to enjoy the crayons and activities the menu included. - Beet hummus ($12) - delicious flavor and beautiful color. Drizzled with olive oil and pepitas. Reasonable portion of hummus but served with only one flatbread. We asked for another and it was $3. Hummus was salty but overall tasty. - Broccoli spigarello ($8): drowned in tamari. Incredibly salty. Teeny tiny - small pile of leaves. - Fusilli with arugula pesto, mushrooms, winter squash ($26): very basic. Tasted like something I make at home on a weekday when I don't have time to cook. The bites with all elements were good, but there were very few mushrooms and pieces of squash. - bubbly water ($7): I made the mistake of assuming they had sparkling water on tap. Oops. Service was really lovely and they accommodated our tired and loud preschooler nicely. It's possible we ordered the wrong things and they really rock at seafood and meat, but we won't return to find out.

Yelp
We recently enjoyed our first dinner experience at Alley & Vine. We were dining to celebrate my birthday, but low key, with my husband and 3 month old son. Upon entering and giving the hostess our name for our reservation we were quickly seated but walked through the beautiful dining room to an empty upstairs, very low ceiling area that was a good 10 degrees warmer than downstairs. Assuming this was because of the baby who, by the way, slept through the entire dinner and would not have been any disturbance to anyone downstairs. Our service was lovely, attentive and friendly. We enjoying cocktails, shared the Brussels sprouts salad and caviar tart bite. For dinner we ordered the fried branzino and mussels. The mussels were delicious! A very decadent white wine broth. The branzino was good but a little overly breaded. Overall, we really enjoyed Alley & Vine. I think we would have stayed longer if we weren't seated upstairs. I completely understand their response to seeing a baby in a carseat but ultimately were quiet and not an overly needy table that wanted to celebrate in the mix of the beautiful space versus stowed upstairs. It seems like their menu changes frequently so we definitely plan to come back! Especially to enjoy their patio. Thanks to all at Alley & Vine!

Yelp
The staff are friendly but the overall dining experience was underwhelming. The only plate I enjoyed was the oakleaf salad which had fresh fruit and vegetables. The fusilli pasta had a bitter flavor due to the pesto being made with arugula. I find that pesto needs a balance because of the bitterness of the ingredients incorporated. The spinach ricotta dumplings were bland. I could easily make something better at home. I would suggest they change their menu and flavors and their restaurant might be worth the expensive price.

Yelp
What an absolutely beautiful dining experience. Sat on the patio. Yes there are heaters. Service was impeccable but also genuinely friendly. And the food was fantastic. I had the Korean Fried Chicken, spicy but not overbearing. Also the grilled broccolini. Lots of other small plate options. Definitely will be trying something else on my next visit. It's a little pricey but worth the cost for the lovely dining experience.

Yelp
Had dinner at Alley and Vine to Celebrate a birthday! To start off with the drinks we're delicious and the caviar shot was an experience. The appetizers to begin with was delicious. I loved the asparagus salad and caviar. It was well balanced and would order again. I enjoyed the bread and butter + the pickled olives, capers and garlic. The only thing I would say is I wish the oysters were cold instead of lukewarm. I felt like the appetizers tasted better than the actual entree's. The duck was the best dish out of them all. It was perfectly cooked. The fish was so flaky and crispy but wish it had more flavor. The porkchop was really delicious but half way - it started becoming raw. I definitely love a pink porkchop - but that was RAW and had lots of blood veins. I told my waiter about this and said that's how it cooked and just brushed it off. Next time please serve the next customer better cooked, so they don't get sick.

Yelp
Not a flawless experience from start to finish but the food, vibes, service and effort was there. I made reservations through their website/open door for outdoor seating on a Saturday evening, even though it was a bit chilly (low 50's with a breeze). Waze will bring you to the front of the restaurant but there's a small private parking lot in the back. If you have a lowered sports car like me, keep driving because the driveway is narrow and steep. You're better off parking a block away in the neighborhood instead of circling looking for a prime parking spot. We were seated quickly and offered still or sparkling water. We asked our server Andrew to turn on the heat lamp next to our table and after many failed attempts, he Macgyver the lamp to stay on... sort of. Let's just say, he did his best to keep it on for us. The cocktail "Prickle My Fancy" was a fun, beautiful, tasty drink that if they offered it in a pitcher, I'd buy it! Wines by the glass selection was a bit small but had a pretty basic spread to pick from. The food was fantastic! -Toasted as Kneaded Bread with the cultured butter: YES! -Castelevantro Olives with garlic and anchovies: pairs really well with the wine, nice and briny -Rainbow Trout Crudo: think sashimi, but all of the garnishes worked beautifully together -Kurobuta Pork Belly: ORDER THIS!!!! -Braised Lamb Shank: fall off the bone, tender and full of flavor -Filet of Beef: beautifully cooked medium rear but it was served a bit dry. Needed a glaze or a sauce. -Manjari Chocolate Pot de Crème: rich, decadent, delicious! Such a cute and cozy date night spot where the food and service shines! Not to mention, they are dog and kid friendly, although we didn't see any kids dining that evening. Thank you Andrew for battling the heat lamp and eventually winning! We'll definitely be back soon!

Yelp
I took a friend to Alley & Vine to celebrate and we loved the food, the attentive service, and being outside among beautiful lights, trees, and flowers. They had just changed the menu and everything was delicious, from the Milk Bread, cheese dish, Korean Hot Chicken, to the Scampi! I had a delicious cocktail and my friend loved her mocktail. Visit Alley & Vine and enjoy delicious food, and a wonderful setting!
