We were introduced to this place by Inside Singapore(Korean Singapore Trip Information Community). This place gave me a really great experience. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly. Chili crab and fried rice are the best combination. The sauce is the best It was nice to be able to buy and eat other foods nearby.

We were introduced to this place by Inside Singapore(Korean Singapore Trip Information Community). This place gave me a really great experience. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly. I loved all foods that our team ordered. If you are Korean, you are gonna love the black pepper crab. I enjoyed great food with reasonable price.

Excellent hawker stall to fill up on some tasty seafood. I absolutely dig their black pepper crab, the sticky sauce is fragrant, zesty and packs a pretty punch. The live mud crabs they use are big and meaty, really good quality. Other stand out dishes are the tiger prawns, which are massive and full of that lobstery goodness, and the stingray. The latter is especially succulent and plump if ordered in the bigger portion sizes, which I did on another visit here. The pictured is the smallest portion size at 12$. Prices are very competitive given the popularity of Newton food center and the service is fast and efficient. By the time of my visit they were awarded with a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide, which I would say is fully justified.

It was just okay overall. Costs $55 per crab + $6 for the buns so total of $61 which is probably well priced vs. other places. Review of each item we got - 1) crab - just okay, not memorable and not sure why it's michelin. the sauce gravy was nice, though it was a little overpowering and didn't get the fresh flavor of the crab. crab meat itself was a little gritty and no big fleshy pieces. (2.5/5 - wouldn't get this again) 2) sting ray - this was good, sambal on this was yum. never had stinyray before and thought the cut was good and meaty as well as grilled well. (3.5/5) 3) cereal prawn - this was pretty good, the prawns were cooked really well and overall this was a better fish (3.5/5).

We ordered the chilli crab with the fried buns, and the fried squid. Crab was really good, maybe just a tad too sweet. The fried squid was not good, so over fried it was just hard. The fried buns are so good! Overall was a good experience but might try elsewhere where it’s not so sweet (crab).

This is located in the Newton Food Centre, considered a bit of a tourist focused hawker stall and is easily accessed by a nearby MRT station. We got the chili crab, priced at $56, which was quite good. This is one of those “things you must eat in Singapore” dishes. A stir fried crab comes in a thick tomato based chili sauce with shredded crab meat. This comes served with sweet and fluffy mantou bun. The sauce is a little tangy, medium sweet and fairly spicy. They bring you plastic gloves so you can get into the shell, but those were a bit in the way. So bring your own wet wipes and dig in! The only criticism is that we wish they did a slightly better job pre-cracking the shell, but very few places we’ve been to (outside of Japan) get that just right. Service is bruque, but that’s the standard with Hawker stalls.

I chose this store because it showed that it's on the Michelin guide. My plan was to eat a whole durian after dinner so I just ordered a pepper crab. There was no price on the menu, and mine was S$50 this time. I paid when the crab was on the table. Tissue paper, gloves, a plate and a spoon were provided. I think this crab was cooked just right, still juicy. I love that the pepper were crushed coarsely that they were still crunchy.

Yelp
While exploring Newton Food Centre, I noticed this spot had a Michelin guide and they were serving chili crab. Even though I had plans for chili crab later in the evening, we decided to try one here to have a comparison. The crab is market price, which was SG$50 or SG$56 including the mantou. We opted for the latter, which is necessarily as the mantou is the perfect device to soak up all your sauce. You also get gloves to eat since it gets quite messy. This spot is a good and affordable alternative for chili crab. It's not as good as Jumbo Seafood, but it's a fraction of the price.

Yelp
Tried the Sambal Stingray here as I was feeling adventurous. Essentially this was a BBQ stingray with dry rub on top, which was spicy served on a banana leaf. I did not know this was going to be spicy, so that caught me off guard. At the end of the day, I could have lived without knowing what this tasted like. It wasn't disgusting, but it didn't really stand out.

Yelp
This hawker market is known as the touristy choice, as it is located near many hotels, can be accessed easily by MRT and is pretty easy to find. The staff at our hotel recommended it as an easy first experience. When we went it was a quiet day, but most of the food stalls were already open. We went there for the chilli crab - considered the national dish of Singapore - and chose to try Alliance Seafood because of its seafood focus. We learned later Michelin Guide suggests it as a place to try this very dish. This crab dish is served shell on, in a tomato-based thick chilli sauce with bits of crab meat in the sauce as well. It's savoury, sweet and fairly spicy. The crab they use had delicious flavourful meat. They also serve it with freshly cooked mantou buns (fried, we think) that are super fluffy and a little sweet, providing a lovely compliment to the sauce. You will be given plastic gloves to eat the dish with, but they just get in the way. They will also provide you with lots of paper napkins. There is a washing station at the Newton Market so you can get all the sauce off your hands. I recommend bringing wet wipes - and don't forget to pull them out before you start eating. Also, wear a shirt you don't mind getting sauce on it, because there's lots of potential to walk away wearing some of the sauce. The one benefit of eating this dish at a restaurant is that they are more likely to give you a nut craker to get at the meat easier. They do break up the shell in strategic places, but you still have to do some hard work to get at it. We paid $56 for the crab dish and found one was enough for a lunch for the two of us, especially since we mopped up every bit of sauce with the buns. We paid in cash. The dish is seasonally priced, so the cost may vary, ask before you order it.

Yelp
This is the best chilli crab that we have had hands down. This includes many of the other "classy" $200 crabs we had in Singapore. Not bad that a $40 crab from a hawker kicks their butt! The crab is fresh and well prepared. The sauce is amazing! The only issue was there was not enough stuff to put sauce on and I would look silly drinking it like a soup (though the thought crossed my mind). I ended up going to another stall to order naan to dip the sauce. Stall #27 at the Newton Food market is must try place. This place definitely earns the Michelin star presented to them. If you enjoy seafood there is absolutely no reason to miss this place!

Yelp
Alliance is on the 2018 Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand list for affordable street food, so we swung by and got the Chili Crab with mantou (as seen in Crazy Rich Asians). It was so good, we got a second plate of mantou just to finish off that delicious chili sauce. Definitely recommended, and be prepared for long wait! We waited 45-minutes in the unbearable humidity for the crab and another 20-minutes for a second plate of mantou.

Yelp
Alliance Seafood (2018 Bib Gourmand) has incredibly fresh fish. The cereal prawns were large and succulent (although at a $30 price tag.) The kang kong was fantastic ($10), though the sambal stingray was overwhelmed by the sauce ($10.) Still worth checking out if you're in Newton - but at this price tag, not worth the special journey.

Yelp
I actually would give zero stars for an extremely unpleasant experience. Service is terrible and the service staff are extremely stingy. I ordered a plate of stingray and yes, it's only a plate of stingray but when I took an additional stack of Chili with shallots after finishing my two small plates of chilli, they told me I was too much, and having spent only $12, I shouldn't be taking so much of their chilli.Firstly, they shouldn't discriminate against how much I spend in order to take chilli, and secondly it's only shallots, with a few pieces of chilli. I'm better off spending my business elsewhere if I am chided for being a chilli lover. If you're putting a Michelin recommendation on your signboard, I recommend that you start working more on being less stingy and improve your customer service. After all, people dine out and spend money at your stall not to get chided

Yelp
The crab was definitely worth it!!!! We paired it with steam rice and Thai leaves with oyster and garlic!!!! Wow!!!
